Death SS were an Italian metal band formed in 1977. They performed whilst clad in the most basic children's Halloween costumes. How many in the audience were laughing? None, according to the band's less than modest "visionary," Steve Sylvester, who wrote a book about the band's early days called The Necromancer of Rock. BJ got his hands on a copy. I was listening and enjoying your last episode of the WILD podcast. I was absorbing it, as I always do, alongside the fire with a nice glass of sherry, with my son Gerald (he has polio you know). I have to say Sheldon, that this episode was tickling my funny bone more than most. I dare say, it might be your best work. However, it got to a point when you were talking about the man that threatened your life whilst you were working as a bartender. The story was shocking, but what really made me prick my ears up, was when you said you were 6'3... Now I am perhaps your most loyal fan, but even I do not appreciate being taken advantage of. 6'3 is a girthy size for any boy, and upon double taking what fell before my eyes, I could only see what I thought to be true... is that I was witnessing a South African man lying about his height on a public facing podcast. Now Sheldon, I know what you are going to say... You have no proof! I present the following... As you can see... I have done my research. I thought I would start with reliable measurements. I noticed your microphone, 'tis was your first mistake. Using open source intelligence, I was able to gather the dimensions of the Zoom ZUM2 podcast microphone. A mere 150mm in length, but compared to your shoulders, look gigantuine. This was my first red flag. Using those known dimensions, I was able to then compare that to your sign. At first, this sign made me feel at home at the WILD podcast, but now... now it was laughing in my FACE. But now I am the one laughing Sheldon, because by using my technology, I was able to ascertain that that sign is a mere 39.37cm in length. Roughly the size of a school ruler, yet seemingly comparable to your head AND shoulders, aye Sheldy??? Funny I should mention that, because if you take THOSE measurements and multiply them by four (taking into account your whole body), we finally get some REAL answers. You... my good sir... are not 6'3. You... are a measly 5'2. When will you respect the WILD audience enough to come clean about the FACTS, and not feel so self conscious as to lie about your height on air. There is no need to feel this way Sheldon. There are many small comedians, including Joe Rogan or Ben Shapiro. I bet you won't read this out on the air... you coward. And I bet that you won't come clean about the realities of your vertical impairment. Anyway, looking forward to next EP! "This band has no past" was the first line of the farcical biography printed on the inner sleeve of Cheap Trick's first album, but the band, of course, did have a past—a past that straddles two very different decades: from the tumult of the sixties to the anticlimax of the seventies, from the British Invasion to the record industry renaissance, with the band's debut album arriving in 1977, the year vinyl sales peaked.“This Band Has No Past: How Cheap Trick Became Cheap Trick”, featuring a foreword by Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, tells the story of a bar band from the Midwest—the best and weirdest bar band in the Midwest— and how they doggedly pursued a most unlikely career in rock'n'roll. It traces every gnarly limb of the family tree of bands that culminated in Cheap Trick, then details how this unlikely foursome paid their dues—with interest—night after night, slogging it out everywhere from high schools to bars to bowling alleys to fans' back yards, before signing to Epic Records and releasing two brilliant albums six months apart.Drawing on more than eighty original interviews, “This Band Has No Past: How Cheap Trick Became Cheap Trick” is packed full of new insights and information that fans of the band will devour. How was the Cheap Trick logo created? How did the checkerboard pattern come to be associated with the band? When did Rick Nielsen start wearing a ballcap 24/7? Who caught their mom and dad rolling on the couch? What kind of beer did David Bowie drink? And when might characters like Chuck Berry, Frank Zappa, Don Johnson, Otis Redding, Eddie Munster, Kim Fowley, John Belushi, Jim Belushi, Elvis Presley, Leslie West, Groucho Marx, Robert F. Kennedy, Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, The Coneheads, Tom Petty, Harvey Weinstein, Michael Mann, Linda Blair, Eddie Van Halen, Elvis Costello, Matt Dillon, and Pam Grier turn up? Read “This Band Has No Past” and find out and you may even get an answer to a few of those questions today with our guest Brian J. Kramp.I also ask Brian a question that has nothing to do with Cheap Trick or rock and roll, but the paranormal. Here is what his bio says: "Brian J., short for Brian James, hails from Waukesha, where he was raised in two houses, one across the street from a bowling alley, the other haunted. The bowling alley was the Sunset Bowl, where Cheap Trick were ‘discovered' by Jack Douglas. Douglas also happened to be the name of the ghost: a seven-year-old boy, one of the previous owner's nine children, who fell off the roof of a neighborhood building."In the mid-nineties, Brian attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where it seemed like every other person he met had a great Cheap Trick story and was eager to tell it. The band were legendary in that town, icons already, and for Brian, an ardent rock fan and budding record collector, Cheap Trick pressed all the right buttons. Thirty years and thousands of records later, here we are: Brian is now the proud author of this, his first book, about his favorite band.Brian has lived in Queens, New York, and Austin, Texas, but now resides near Madison with his wife and daughter. He has been a featured host on the long running podcasts Cheap Talk (a podcast devoted to Cheap Trick) with Ken Mills; and Rock and/or Roll, a part of the Pantheon Podcast Network.Purchase a copy of “This Band Has No Past: How Cheap Trick Became Cheap Trick” through Amazon: www.amazon.com/This-Band-Has-No-Past/dp/1911036874/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=brian+kramp&qid=1662419299&sr=8-2Visit Brian J. The Pop released a pair of singles and album independently before signing with Arista for their 1979 album Go! They managed one more EP with Rhino before splitting up in 1981. Hear David's story of moving from Chicago to LA in the early seventies to pursue his rock and roll dreams.
Gary Valentine was an early member of Blondie, performing on the band's first album before leaving to form his own band in Los Angeles called The Know. Hear Gary's story on this episode, with lots of great music interspersed throughout.
BJ is joined by Steve Brigida, drummer from Artful Dodger, for a discussion about the band's career, and their place in the history power pop.
BJ presents an interview with Jonathan Paley, who recalls unwittingly wandering into some dive called CBGBs along with Jonathon Richman, auditioning for the Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Richard Hell and Jerry Nolan), recording with the Ramones, being produced by Phil Spector, not to mention the story of the band he had with his brother Andy, the Paley Brothers, who recorded a power pop classic for Sire in 1978. The follow up would have been even better, but it never happened. Find out why...
BJ presents interviews with two former members of pub rock band the Kursaal Flyers, Graeme Douglas and Will Birch, who each went on to make power pop history with, respectively, Eddie and the Hot Rods and The Records.
From July 2013:B.J. is your self-appointed tour guide for a trip through the more remote provinces of the seventies rock scene in Canada. Beauty! From January 2016:Michel Pagliaro is a one of a kind artist and in terms of seventies rock and the advent of power pop he was a true visionary. Famous in Quebec but virtually unknown outside of that French Canadian province, Pagliaro made music ahead of its time and yet with obvious universal appeal. On this episode BJ actually has a conversation with this elusive figure in the history of rock music. Many thanks to Simon Fauteux and Six Media Marketing for making this happen!

This special edition of the LTAC Podcast was recorded mid-August in the middle of all kinds of different stress. While working in the office, Jared needed an escape for a little while. For the fun of it, he recorded this podcast talking about 20 different Rock and/or Roll songs from 15 bands that he's enjoyed over the years. Most of the bands, you've probably never heard of. Some you might like, others not so much, but he certainly did enjoy making it. We hope you have fun listening. Less talk, more rock.

Six-Pack of Manowar, Volume One HOLD YOUR HAMMERS HIGH!! On this Six-Pack episode, Matt Porter from The KISS Room and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to ride the winds of victory into Valhalla and discuss the music and Conan-like pageantry of Manowar. From loin clothes to tales of Thor and battles and triumphs, Manowar is certainly a unique band. Their musicianship is aggressive, smart, and solidly beyond reproach, their image and lyrical content is definitely testosterone-laden and fantasy based. Should they be winking with some of their songs a la Spinal Tap? Is it all kayfabe?? What do they think of the "metal" posers of their day?!? We discuss all of this and much more. But moreover, we play six fun and fist-pumping songs from this pioneering band in the power-metal, fantasy-metal genre! So grab your broadsword, let the arrows fly, and ride with us into glory as we have some fun with a Six-Pack of Manowar!
I’m hangin’ with BJ Kramp for this episode and we’re each putting together our fantasy dream Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band setlist. Six-Pack of Desmond Child, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, Lee McCormack of the Tramps Like Us Podcast and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to celebrate the work of master hit-writer Desmond Child. If you don't know Desmond by name, you definitely know his work on huge hits by Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Ricky Martin, Joan Jett, Cher, Alice Cooper, KISS, Scorpions, Billy Squier, and dozens more. He started in the 70s with a disco-rock fusion group called Rouge before connecting with Paul Stanley to write I Was Made For Lovin' You, which launched him as one of the most sought-after songwriters in the 80s and beyond. During his career, he's been on all sides of the mic and the board, and we touch on all of it as we dig into a Six-Pack of this great Songwriting Hall of Famer! So take a break from workin' on the docks, cruise into a bar on the shore, live la vida loca and check out this Six-Pack of Desmond Child!
Six-Pack of Scorpions, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, Ryan McKay from The Shabby Road Record Show and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to rock you like a... **here we are** ... rock you like a.... are you ready BAAA-BBEEEE?!?? We're culling together a dynamite Six-Pack of songs from all eras of the iconic German group - from the Uli days, thru the late 70s, thru both the early and late 80s, thru the 90s and beyond, we hit it all. Additionally, Ryan gives us a nice comparison of Uli John Roth, Matthias Jabs, and Rudolf Schenker from a guitarist perspective and we each whip out some of our best Klaus impressions! So meet your girl, she's dressed to thrill, walk around to catch the thrill, and join us as we have some fun with a Six-Pack of The Scorps!
Six-Pack of Britny Fox, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, Matt Porter from The KISS Room and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to take a look at the work and career of Britny Fox. We're breaking all the rules, spraying up our hair, throwing on some velvet overcoats, some purple spandex, throwing some spin-kicks, and digging into the late 80s metal scene of Philly. Matt shares memories of the early days seeming them live and some info about what Dean is up to these days, we get into the lineup changes, we get into the obvious Cinderella comparisons, and we definitely get into some of their classic work - hard pop-rock at it's finest. Matt even shares a very rare track from a cassette in his personal collection as his final pick - worth hanging around for! So hitch upon a star, dream on, bite down hard, and join us as we have some fun with a Six-Pack of Britny Fox!
Six-Pack of Daniel Johnston, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, Reid Messerschmidt from The Irrationally Exuberant Podcast and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to celebrate the life and work of Daniel Johnston. Daniel is considered by some to be one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His work is extremely lo-fi, literally recorded at home directly onto a tape recorder, but it is also incredibly unguarded and human. He struggled with mental illness and compulsively created music and art throughout his troubled life, topics he regularly covered brilliantly in his work. Some chance high-profile fans, a very welcoming music scene in Austin in the late 1980s, and an undeniable talent has led to Daniel's legacy as a songwriter, cult-like status, and very loyal fanbase. His life's story wonderfully captured in a 2006 documentary, The Devil and Daniel Johnston... if you haven't seen it, go check it out. Daniel passed away this week at the age of 58, and so we wanted to pay tribute. So sit back, kick your mom out of your basement, and join us as we honor the brilliantly unique Daniel Johnston.
Six-Pack of Cinderella, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, writer/podcaster from KISS FAQ Julian Gill and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to shake it 'til we break it. We're talking Cinderella! We're each bringing two of our favorite songs from Philadelphia's iconic hard rock band. From Night Songs to Still Climbing (ehh.. sort of), we hit a little something from each, share trivia, trade opinions, and we try to get the steam out (anybody know what that means??) So sit back, put your money in a big house, get yourself a pretty wife, and discover or rediscover the blues rocking brilliance of Cinderella.
Six-Pack of Lindsey Buckingham, Volume One On this Six-Pack episode, Ben Montgomery of the Records Revisited Podcast and BJ Kramp of the Rock And/Or Roll podcast join Eric Miller of Pods & Sods to celebrate the songs of Lindsey Buckingham. We're each bringing two songs from Lindsey's catalog - spanning from his Fleetwood Mac tenure, to his solo hits, to some of his deeper cuts. We cover quite a bit of terrain and share our personal thoughts on the songs - and on Lindsey's mastery as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He's an enigmatic dude, mixing bouncy pop with somber lyrics and sometimes quirky vocals. He definitely goes his own way musically, and for that we love him. So sit back and discover or rediscover the brilliance of Lindsey Buckingham. But whatever you do, DO NOT LOOK DOWN!!

Good stuff - the Garage Hour guys get into a chat about why the AR-15 rifle is not only fun to build and great to shoot, but is an excellent home-defense weapon (especially for women and young adults - Joe Biden can stick his shotgun where the sun don't shine), and the goons also dig into some AR/M4 history because, well, history is awesome. Jeff Trevaskis from Twisted Manzanita Ales & Spirits joins former factory test-driver, Death Star leftover and Hostus Maximus Justin Fort and cohost .45 Phil, 27-year Marine and That Which Goes Bump in the Night for two hours of the good stuff, plus jet turbines, Manz's upcoming fourth-anniversary party, the brewing scene in San Diego, a few discussions with Nick the Trick about John Paul Jones and additional rock awesomeness, and an honest assessment of the sh!tstorm brewing in the Middle East and why the eggheads in the White House both caused it and are making it worse. Remember, the AR-15 was originally designed by Satan, the AR will fire automatically if it smells fear, and if you're shot with an AR, you become one and shoot others, turning them into ARs. THESE and other fun AR facts are discussed, dispelled and disproven on dis week's Garage Hour. Yes, have some. jf
