"Toys in the Attic", do Aerosmith, completa 50 anos em 2025. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Zebra were a fascinatingly interesting hard rock band in the early 80s that are hard to categorize. While they toured with Sammy Hagar, REO Speedwagon, Journey and the like, their style is what I call "ambitious rock" where the ideas are flowing, but not to the point of prog. They released three exceptional albums, but didn't quite reach the top and then hair metal came along and overwhelmed them. Leader Randy Jackson joins us this week to discuss how it felt on that tidal wave - working with Jack Douglas on the debut album, finally recording a fourth album 17 years later, touring with the Jefferson Airplane after Zebra were done and more. Zebra is a band that absolutely deserves your rediscovery. Enjoy!  www.thedoor.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod

You could call Jack Douglas the world's greatest living producer and you probably wouldn't get a whole lotta blowback from people who obsess about these things. Jack has produced seminal records for everyone from Cheap Trick to Aerosmith to Patti Smith to John freakin' Lennon (he also produced a record for Local H, but we don't need to get into that). In short — he's the best. He also has the best stories. And in December at a live event at Gman Tavern (yes — we're back at Gman), Scott got the chance to pry some of those stories out of him. On this episode Jack talks about his brand new label Confidential Records, his brand new signing Robin Taylor Zander (yup - he's related), sailing with pirates to Liverpool to meet the Beatles, actually meeting the Beatles, the inspirational power of Marty Feldman, John Lennon's dubious methods to win percussion contests, Cheap Trick gigs in Wisconsin, and (wisely) refusing joints from Jimi Hendrix. Jesus Christ — what a life! (Special thanks to our buddy Evan Peters for engineering and recording Scott's interview with Jack.)

On the 47th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1976 classic album from Aerosmith, "Rocks." Rocks was Aerosmith's 4th studio album. The album continued Aerosmith's climb as perhaps America's preeminent hard rock band of the 1970's. The album was one of the first albums to ever get shipped platinum and has gone quadruple platinum. The album also reached number 3 on the US Billboard album charts. Aerosmith is led by one of the best singing and charismatic frontmen in rock history, Steven Tyler. Steven's vocals are one of a kind and style is unmatched. Aerosmith is led by dual guitar attack of Joe Perry and Brad Whitford. They trade off leads and rhythm guitar throughout the album. The rhythm section is Tom Hamilton on bass and Joey Kramer on drums. All the musicians as a whole are vastly underrated. The album was produced by the legendary Jack Douglas. Rocks features that classic Aerosmith style and see them continue the ascension to the top of the rock bands of the 1970's. Rocks features classics like, Back In The Saddle and Last Child while containing some of Aerosmith's favorite deep cuts, like Rats In The Cellar, Home Tonight & Nobody's Fault and Sick As A Dog. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 45 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. David Whelan Returns - Update on the John Lennon murderWhen John Lennon was shot in December 1980, the world went into shock. Lennon was truly a man of his age - or at least he played such very well - and his death meant no one, no matter their wealth and fame were immortal. The furore which followed the assassination provided cover for the weak story causing it. Where did Chapman stand? How did he have so much money? How does a man, losing blood and oxygen at a fatal rate, stagger up to an office, open a heavy mahogany door and say 'I'm shot'? There's questions regarding the security around Lennon, the conversation taped with Jack Douglas which Douglas deleted that night, and, yes, the changing of the will shortly before the event.Witnesses say there was a second gunman, and Whelan has evidence to back this up.Whatever the truth of Lennon's demise, we never got the full story. In the decades since, revisiting it with a cold, keen eye, reveal the all too obvious tall tale the killing was. This interview is one of two detailing the revelations and research David Whelan has undertaken, the first hand witnesses he has spoken to and the facts *someone* tried to conceal. You can hear the first interview hereThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement

Which of his albums does he consider a “stone old classic”? What's his issue with The Up Escalator? Why did he need to move on from the Rumour to maximize his growth as a singer-songwriter? Whom was he evoking in his singing on “Wake Up (Next To You),” his one U.S. Top 40 hit? Which of his songs should've been a dance hit? This episode hits the spot. (Photo by Dion Ogust.)

In this special Gear Club episode, we celebrate the post-Beatle life of John Lennon, who would have turned 82 this year on October 9th. After The Beatles broke up, John and Yoko moved to New York where John produced, recorded, and played songs that spoke to the post-60s generation as they struggled for justice and an end to war. John Lennon impacted the lives of all those he came across, and that impact continues to live on. To mark the occasion of his birth, we've collected first-hand accounts from the producers and engineers who worked most closely with John as he wrote and recorded songs from “Imagine” to “Starting Over”. These people include Shelly Yakus, Jack Douglas, Rod O'Brien, Ed Stasium, Jay Messina, and Greg Calbi.

They're not exactly as wholesome as apple pie, but they have been anointed “America's Greatest Rock Band” for good reason. Aerosmith have sold more hard rock albums than any other American band, and they went from being an opening act to stadium headliners with the release of their third album, Toys In The Attic, released in 1975. The lead single from that album, “Sweet Emotion” marked important firsts: it was their first song to hit the Top 40 chart, and it was the first co-write credit that bassist Tom Hamilton got on the scoreboard. Steven Tyler's lyrics are full of daggers aimed at Joe Perry's then-girlfriend, and there is even a hidden message buried in the song. Dig in to the history of this classic tune in the new episode of the Behind The Song podcast. Watch the video episode and subscribe to the Behind The Song Youtube channel: https://bit.ly/2DBF4wJ
