ANGELA PETRILLI Interview (with Matt & Rob) Angela is an LA based guitarist who fronts her great band, "The Players" They most recently released a live version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" which will most certainly blow you away! We talked to Angela about the Netflix documentary "Norman's Rare Guitars". Angela is part of the documentary and she's a big part of Norman's Guitars with her "guitar of the week" videos and also instructional videos teaching guitar players some of the songs she absolutely loves. A new album is in the works from Angela Petrilli and the Players! In this interview we talk about Norman's, Zeparella, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Incubus, Martin Guitar and of course.. Guitars! ***** A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ANGELA PETRILLI Back in 2019 Angela lost her dear friend and bandmate Jennifer Pagliaro from stage 4 breast cancer. Angela was one half of the duo "Roses and Cigarettes" (with Jenny). That year they created some major buzz with their 3rd album "Echoes and Silence" and a tour in the works. On March 25th Rolling Stone named their song "Fast as I Can" as one of the 10 best country songs of the week. But in a heartbreaking and tragic turn of events, Pagliaro—who had been fighting off cancer for years—passed away the very next day. She was just 35. For the better part of a year, the grieving Petrilli put down her guitar, left L.A. behind and set out across the world. She traveled to Nashville, New York, Paris and Italy, eventually making it as far as Australia. Along the way, she spent a lot of time on the ocean, where she was able to find some peace and clarity. As she began to heal, she could feel her muse calling once again. Finally back home in L.A., she reached out to some musician friends and booked a bar gig under the name The Petrilli Players. The idea was to shake off the cobwebs, play some covers and have a good time—and that's exactly how it went down. With a reinvigorated sense of purpose, and a band of simpatico players—Brett Grossman on bass, Stephen Haaker on drums, Matt Lomeo on harmonica & backing vocals, Bobby Victor on keys, and Vic Vanacore III on percussion—Petrilli was inspired to start writing again. After several months playing shows around Los Angeles (including opening spots for Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters, The Immediate Family, and a performance at Joe Bonamassa's 3rd Annual Stream-a-thon concert), the new songs felt studio-ready, and Petrilli booked a session at Hollywood's legendary Sunset Sound—the same hallowed ground that has hosted sessions by The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Van Halen, Ray LaMontagne and countless others. ************ You can find Angela on FB and Instagram.

Abstract: Despite the intense research, most therapeutic strategies failed in preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by a combination of chronic neurodegeneration, oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. The broad protective activity of IntegroPectin derived from industrial waste grapefruit peel via hydrodynamic cavitation has been recently characterized. In this study, we investigated the beneficial effects of grapefruit IntegroPectin treatment in microglia cells exposed to oxidative stress conditions. Human microglial HMC3 cells were challenged with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBH), a powerful hydroperoxide, in the presence of grapefruit IntegroPectin. The apoptotic process, the oxidative stress and the neuroinflammatory responses with the relative intracellular cascades were evaluated. Grapefruit IntegroPectin fully counteracted the apoptotic process induced by cell exposure to TBH. The protective effects of grapefruit IntegroPectin were accompanied with a decrease in the amount of ROS, and were strictly dependent on the activation of the PI3K/Akt cascade. Finally, IntegroPectin treatment inhibited basal microglia activation and the neuroinflammatory response by down-regulating the PI3K-NF-kB- iNOS cascade. These findings reveal that the innovative IntegroPectin exerts a potent protective activity on microglia cells and strongly support further investigations aimed at exploring its therapeutic role in in vivo models of neurodegenerative disorders. Beniamino Pagliaro"Boomers contro Millennials"7 bugie sul futuro e come iniziare a cambiareHarperCollinshttps://harpercollins.itSette luoghi comuni. Sette bugie. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.01.30.526321v1?rss=1 Authors: Rupert, D. D., Pagliaro, A. H., Choe, J., Shea, S. D. Abstract: Mutations in MECP2 cause the neurodevelopmental disorder Rett syndrome. MECP2 codes for methyl CpG binding protein 2 (MECP2), a transcriptional regulator that activates genetic programs for experience-dependent plasticity. Many neural and behavioral symptoms of Rett syndrome may result from dysregulated timing and threshold for plasticity. As a model of adult plasticity, we examine changes to auditory cortex inhibitory circuits in female mice when they are first exposed to pups; this plasticity facilitates behavioral responses to pups emitting distress calls. Brain-wide deletion of Mecp2 alters expression of markers associated with GABAergic parvalbumin interneurons (PVin) and impairs the emergence of pup retrieval. We hypothesized that loss of Mecp2 in PVin disproportionately contributes to the phenotype. Here we find that deletion of Mecp2 from PVin delayed the onset of maternal retrieval behavior and recapitulated the major molecular and neurophysiological features of brain-wide deletion of Mecp2. We observed that when PVin-selective mutants were exposed to pups, auditory cortical expression of PVin markers increased relative to that in wild type littermates. PVin-specific mutants also failed to show the inhibitory auditory cortex plasticity seen in wild type mice upon exposure to pups and their vocalizations. Finally, using an intersectional viral genetic strategy, we demonstrate that postdevelopmental loss of Mecp2 in PVin of the auditory cortex is sufficient to delay onset of maternal retrieval. Our results support a model in which PVin play a central role in adult cortical plasticity and may be particularly impaired by loss of Mecp2. Copy rights belong to original authors. You might say Anthony Pagliaro has done a little of everything. He has been a volunteer firefighter and an EMT. A medical assistant, a phlebotomist, and a registered nurse. A nutritionist, a personal trainer, and a wellness coach. An MMA fighter and an Air Force vet. And he's also an actor and a stuntman, with credits that include work as Chris Pratt's stand-in. As he goes from one challenge to the next, what's the one thing that helps him maximize his body and mind? CBD. But that wasn't always the case. “I never believed in CBD,” he recalls. “I never believed in the whole ‘marijuana's going to save you' this and that. I thought of it as ‘You're getting high. Leave me the h*** alone.” As a pro fighter and nurse who was used to getting randomly drug tested, Anthony wasn't interested. Until his work within the wellness space ultimately changed his mind and opened his eyes to the healing powers of CBD. On this episode of Good Dudes Grow, Gary, and Anthony talk about the need to keep not only your body but your mind sharp as a fighter, how Anthony came to advocate for CBD as a tool for wellness, and what some of his best “backstage” stories from acting are (hint: they star the drinking talents of a couple of notable actors). From January 2016:Michel Pagliaro is a one of a kind artist and in terms of seventies rock and the advent of power pop he was a true visionary. Ninguna causa, ninguna idea, ninguna utopía ... me haría renunciar a ti. ----

“I never believed in the whole ‘marijuana's gonna save you' this and that. On this episode of Good Dudes Grow, Gary and Anthony talk about the need to keep not only your body but your mind sharp as a fighter, how Anthony came to advocate for CBD as a tool for wellness, and what some of his best “backstage” stories from acting are (hint: they star the drinking talents of a couple of notable actors). What You'll Learn: How Arby kicked his pharmaceutical addiction How we can ensure the plant stays in the people's hands (and not in Big Pharma's) Why Arby thinks the hemp industry can help solve some of the planet's climate problems And much more! Favorite Quote: “Being a nutritionist, being a wellness coach, being a nurse, I'm there to help. But if I can get your mindset there before doing anything else, everything else is going to fall in place. Because you can be doing an exercise, I can be teaching an exercise, and you could be doing it — or you could be really doing it.” — Anthony Pagliaro Connect With Anthony: Facebook How to Get Involved: Gary Roberts is the founder and CEO of Pure Body Zen, a company based around creating and selling high-quality CBD products that work to heal mind and body alike. Gary considers hemp-based medicine a calling, and his organization, along with the world-class team that runs it, reflects his passion. Chris Oddo and Richard Pagliaro break down a thrilling 2020 Australian Open, looking closely at the title runs of Sofia Kenin and Novak Djokovic as well as the runner-up performances of Dominic Thiem and Garbiñe Muguruza. Before you read the show notes please take a moment to pop over to iTunes and drop a review. If you like the podcast and have a moment, it would mean a lot to us! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lucky-letcord-podcast/id1141129184 On Sofia Kenin "To come from triple break point down and hit the five gutsiest and greatest shots of your life in a row, in succession, against a two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.1 and just to lay it all out there at the moment when you need it the most--it blew my mind and it must have blew Muguruza's mind as well too, because it was just incredible that she was able to produce at that level, under that pressure. Just unbelievable." Pagliaro adds: "Her ability to time the ball and take the ball on the rise, I think it's really unsettling for players." On Garbine Muguruza: "I do think it is the beginning of a building year--look you climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, majors seem like a speedbump compared to that." "I think it is a breakthrough tournament for her." "She's more of an all-court player than I think she gets credit for." On Novak Djokovic "If he didn't have that elbow injury I think he'd be at 20 majors right now," Pagliaro says of Novak Djokovic. Pagliaro adds: "His strength of character and stamina might be his most underrated virtue. ... he will be the Grand Slam king in my view." On Dominic Thiem "What he did was build upon the promise that he showed us all at Indian Wells when he beat Roger in the finals to break through there, he showed us that his game is transferable, that he's not a one-surface champion, that he can do it on hard court." Pagliaro says. "What he showed me is that he was able to flip the switch through a lot of turmoil and hard times," says Pagliaro, who points out that Thiem had a rough go at ATP Cup and things could have become more complicated when he fired Thomas Muster as his co-coach midway through the tournament. Every few months, we collect some of our favorite tunes and throw them together for a wonderful little recap we like to call REPLAY. We used to do replays on our shows, but people told us they didn’t get it, so we figured it’d be better to do it this way. Our BEST OF shows are stupid popular, so the best way for us to promote indie artists is to do these periodic collections, so that’s what we’re doing here. So there. First off, INDIECON! Moving along nicely, still time to enter at www.indieoriginalslive.com. Second, did you know our host Chuck Fresh is the voice of Sirius XM radio? You knew I sounded familiar, didn’t you… whatever.Third, there was some sad news in the IOL community last month. As Fast As I Can by Cigarettes and Roses 28Jenny Pagliaro — Massachusetts native, Santa Monica yoga instructor, lead singer of Roses & Cigarettes — -- succumbed to metastatic breast cancer at just 35 years old. Angela Petrilli recalls auditioning for a cover band Jenny fronted. “It was like I knew her my whole life. She’d always be the first person I’d hear from every day. Every. Single. Day. Always checking in, sending each other funny pictures, song ideas, shared plans back and forth on how we were gonna become rock stars…” Jenny beat back cancer in 2015, after Roses and Cigarrets released their self-titled debut album, but in 2016 she was diagnosed as Stage 4. When she returned to performing, one of her yoga students was surprised to find his teacher rocking onstage. She was an inspiration to a lot of people. Last January, Pagliaro had to stop teaching, and pretty much everything else, as she struggled with fatigue and prayed a last-ditch Y90 treatment would be “a light in a very dark tunnel.” Their last EP, “Echoes and Silence” was released in February, which accompanied the “Fast As I Can” video with Jenny’s comment that the song was “about not letting the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced stop you from living your dreams.” Here’s one out to Jenny, and any other people who are living with cancer, or who have lost someone to cancer. Here’s Cigarettes and Roses with AS FAST AS I CAN on IOL.Whisper In The Mist by Alto Key 21Alto Key is a British indie folk artist, led by singer-songwriter Keyan Barton. Barton actually got a scholarship when he went to university. He bought all the essentials for his degree and accommodations. But rather than saving the leftover money (like someone with common sense), he blew the rest on this keyboard. And thank goodness he did. Barton works with other musicians around the world to record and collaborate. Their emphasis on the beauty of real instruments makes for a warm acoustic sound. Check out this gorgeous track called Whisper In The Mist by Alto Key on IOL.Warning Signs by Chasing Shadows 22Chasing Shadows grew up in a town that has seen better days. Their journey started in August 2014 at the Kings Head in Rhuddlan, North Wales, and since then, Sam, Ben, Russ & Chris have been producing powerful harmonic songs that’ll stick in your ears for hours to come. Their new EP, Darker Days, sees the band return to their rockier roots. ‘Warning Signs’ was released first, with the track receiving placement on indie stations all over the world. Here’s Warning Signs by Chasing Shadows on Indie Originals Live. Facedown by 14 North (22)14 North is a Rock band from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Their sound is a hard-rocking take on 90's grunge with influences from Nirvana and Alice in Chains to Foo Fighters and Puddle of Mudd. And these guys CRUSH it! Check out Facedown by 14 North on IOL.Is It Love by December Fades (22)December Fades is Los Angeles singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Rogers. He has created a beautiful soundscape of heartfelt lyrics and catchy harmonic colorations. Kevin’s voice has been compared to “a soulful Sting,” and even Chris Martin of Coldplay. One listen and you’ll be a December Fades fan too. Here’s Is It Love on IOL.Go by Kid Nebraska (25)Kid Nebraska formed in the fall of 2017 when Josh Kidney messaged Travis Muzney, and Travis jumped at the chance to start a band and brought along Jon Packard on bass. Josh called his longtime friend and guitar mentor Todd Laird. Once the four-piece was established, the band started practicing and booking. Their first single “Go” was released on August 14 2018, and the rest, as they say, will be history. This is an awesome song! Here’s GO by Kid Nebraska on IOL.Balance by Ripley (27)Formed in 2015 RIPLEY in the UK, a three piece alternate rock band, is former classical guitarist Colin Elsworth’s attempt to come to terms with a neurological injury that left him unable to continue to pursue a career as a solo performer. As Toronto gets ready to vote, we'll be bringing you regular panel discussions with journalists and experts who will help you wade through what is maybe the most confusing race in the city's history. This week we have Spacing Senior Editor John Lorinc, and Toronto Star city hall reporter Jennifer Pagliaro.

Michel Pagliaro is a one of a kind artist and a true seventies rock visionary. Famous in Quebec but virtually unknown outside the French Canadian province, Pagliaro made music ahead of its time and yet with obvious universal appeal. On this episode BJ actually has a conversation with this elusive figure in the history of rock music. Many thanks to Simon Fauteux and Six Media Marketing for making this happen!Purchase Pagliaro's music on iTunes HERE.Purchase the tribute album Pag Revisite HERE.
