In an unexpected last minute turn of events, I ended up having the opportunity to visit the Disneyland Resort. My focus was on Disneyland Park as well as the Downtown Disney/Hotel District Area. We'll visit these locations to see what's new and what's happening here at "The Happiest Place on Earth". We'll look at new offerings such as Adventureland Treehouse, Pixar Place and Tiana's Palace. Speaking of Tiana, we look at its impact on the park as well as recent announcements of when Tiana's Bayou Adventure will arrive. We'll then look at entertainment happenings to include Mickey's Mix Magic and the incomparable Magic Happens. We'll also look at where Disneyland is in terms of receiving the permissions and authority to direct its own zoning in moving forward. Could Disneyland have a third theme park? We'll explore that and we'll finish up with some tips for how to make your Disneyland visit the best possible. __________________________________________________________ My new book, "A Century of Powerful Disney Insights" is available! After a long closure, the popular Disney character dining restaurant 1900 Park Fare is finally reopening at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. What to wear when dining there, plus our take on the new Disney Weddings Villains Gowns. Would you wear a black wedding gown? The "Grand" Reopening of 1900 Park Fare is on April 10 at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort1900 Park Fare is re-opening at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort on April 10, 2024, but it's nothing like it was before as some major changes have taken place. The restaurant will be open for breakfast and dinner (no lunch service), with buffet dining at both seatings. One big point of differentiation is that it will be the same character experience at both breakfast and dinner, whereas breakfast and dinner offered different characters in the past.Who are the Characters You Can See at 1900 Park Fare? Aladdin in his Prince Ali look, Cinderella, Mirabel and Tiana in her new look for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. If you're wondering how this peculiar selection of characters ties together, Disney has positioned it as "they celebrate the power of a wish."New Decor at 1900 Park Fare1900 Park Fare was in need of a reno, so the refreshed dining room is a good thing. If you are a longtime patron of 1900 Park Fare you'll be glad to know that Big Bertha (the antique organ that is a Grand Floridian original since 1988) is front and centre in the restaurant. There is a new mural for the entrance and different decor in the different rooms, including drawings of carousel animals inspired by Alice in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid. In the Main Dining Room there are twelve new portraits created in the impressionist art style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The murals feature different Disney characters as they hope, dream and wish upon a star (or even a magic lamp or a wishing well). What to Wear to Breakfast or Dinner at the all-new 1900 Park FareWhether you go all out or just like to wear something with a subtle tie-in, it's fun to theme your wardrobe to a themed restaurant--especially if you have little ones.In this episode of the Disney Travel Style Podcast, Amelia shares her advice on to take a Disney Bounding style approach to the all-news 1900 Park Fare character dining at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.-- Give Your Disney Wedding a Villainous TouchIn our last episode we discussed the new line of Disney Wedding gowns for 2024 and now Disney has released wedding gowns from the darker side. Disney Villains Wedding GownsThe Disney Villains inspired collection from Allure Bridals feature stunning black wedding gowns inspired by Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar and the Evil Queen. All four styles are available starting at $2,000. And yes, you can get them in ivory as well if black is just too much. But we say if you're going to go there...then go all the way!The Ursula gown features a mermaid silhouette with tonal sparkle beadwork on the bodice. Drawing on the flair for the dramatic that is Ursula's trademark, this gown has detachable sheer sleeves including ruffled detailing at the cuffs. If Maleficent is more your style, you can go with a fitted sheath gown in black and green. This gown is truly eye catching, featuring shimmering green velvet and very delicate lace appliques, layered over black organza. The ivory version has chiffon lace accents for a softer touch, but, again, if you're going to go then go all the way.The Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs comes with linear lace, floral embellishments, beads, and sequins delicately scattered over tulle. The dress features sweetheart neckline leading into a peaked bodice, complemented by truly eye-catching embroidery (which is a trademark of all of these gowns). This gown is rounded out with a wrapped ruffle shawl for an added layer of wicked elegance. The Evil Queen wedding gown is available in black, ivory, or gold. Finally, in a unique twist, there is a wedding gown inspired by a male villain: Jafar from Aladdin. This Disney Villain wedding gown features a plunging neckline inspired by Jafar's trademark collar and it's accentuated by a satin collar. For a sophisticated twist, the bodice is tailored with a nod to menswear (ast Disney puts it) and is paired with lightly puffed full-length sleeves with buttoned cuffs. The Jafar gown is offered in either a subtle ivory or a bold black. --Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. State of the Theme Parks 2024 It's that time of year when we look at the current state of the Disney and Universal theme parks in America, and talk about the most exciting changes, additions, and re-imaginings that have been announced for the coming year. Join us for the 2024 State of the Theme Parks Address! Topics covered incude: As of just a few days ago, theme park reservations are no longer needed for most guests at Walt Disney World, and park hopping is open all day long. To accommodate park hopping, inter-park busses will now start running at 10 am. Interestingly, there is currently no bus from MK to EPCOT- all guests hopping between those two parks are being sent via Monorail. Also recently returned, is the Disney Dining Plan and Quick Service Dining Plan at Walt Disney World Resort. The plan features some significant changes to price and inclusions from the last time it was offered. Coming later this summer, the fan favorite Free Dining Plan promotion. Comes with strings attached - requires Disney+ subscription, a longer stay, and the aforementioned changes to the DDP The Country Bears Jamboree is closing very soon for re-imagining, and the latest release from Disney confirms my fears that they're not just adding a segment with Disney songs on to the beloved show, but totally changing the show to be all Disney songs, with one song that "fans will recognize" - I'm guessing Big Al will still interrupt with Blood on the Saddle. Rock and Roller Coaster is down for a lengthy refurb - AGAIN. Disney says there is not current change coming to the theme, although the internet feels the time is right considering recent allegations against Steven Tyler. Construction will soon start on a DVC member lounge somewhere in MK Scaffolding is starting to come down from Tiana's Bayou Adventure as exterior work and landscaping is nearing completion. The exterior of the mountain is now covered almost entirely with plants to fit the bayou theme. Disney again mentions large future investment in MK, and specifically teases another announcement for Frontierland, making a future retheme of Pecos Bill's to Tiana's Place seem more likely. Paradise Pier Hotel at Disneyland completes its transformation with a grand reopening as Pixar Pier Hotel on January 30. To celebrate all things Pixar and the new hotel, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will be hosting the return of Pixar Fest from April 26-August 4, featuring an all new pixar themed daytime parade at DCA, and the return of Together Forever, a Pixar Nighttime Spectacular at Disneyland. May 24, Fantasmic! returns to Disneyland with new special effects, a reimagined finale battle between Mickey and Mileficent, and the return of the iconic Peter Pan scene aboard the Sailing Ship Columbia Run Disney finally returned to Disneyland - the half marathon weekend just wrapped up, and Sept. 5-8 will feature an all new Halloween half marathon weekend, Disneyland will expand the plaza between New Orleans Square and Haunted Mansion into a park like area with space for live entertainment. The grounds and queue of the Haunted Mansion will also be expanded to give guests a tour of the mansion's gardens, and guests can visit the carriage house which will house a brand new Haunted Mansion shop. Dreamworks Animation land will replace Wood Woodpecker's KidZone in Universal Studios Florida some time in 2024 As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. Disney's Country Bear Jamboree has a much longer history than many people realize. What's next for the country bears in 2024, plus Disney Imagineering is slowly slipping further away from Walt Disney's approach to park theming. The Next Chapter in the Long History of Country Bear JamboreeCountry Bear Jamboree will be closing for a complete overhaul on January 27 and will re-open in the summer (no specific month yet) as the all-new Country Bear Musical Jamboree. As first announced at Destination D23 last summer, the Country Bears will return with a new show that pays tribute to the Opry style shows of Nashville. Disney promises quite a few Easter eggs throughout the show (including a familiar tune), as the bears sing new and reinterpreted Disney songs in different country music genres.Country Bear Jamboree has a long and interesting history. Walt Disney originally conceived the Country Bears concept in the 1960s to be part of the grandiose Mineral King Ski Resort project in California. This, of course, was never actually built. But the Country Bears idea was revived for Walt Disney World where it became one of the most popular marquee attractions when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971.Editorial Rant: Current Disney Imagineers Continue to Stray Further from Walt Disney and Closer to UniversalOf interesting note in the Disney news story is that Disney continues to refer to this area -- including Tiana's Bayou Adventure -- as Frontierland. So, unfortunately, Disney Imagineers are ignoring trademark Disney Parks theming and slipping further towards a Universal type of fragmented-not-too-concerned-with-lands approach to design. I have often said that the current group of Imagineers is among the worst in Walt Disney World history, so hopefully at some point the sloppy Imagineering can be cleaned up and returned to earlier Disney standards.A lazy Imagineer is not a good Imagineer. So Bob Iger, please take a look at the lack of basic creative spark and ingenuity in your current Disney Imagineering Department.--Disneyland Lunar New Year Foodie GuideTop Food Picks from the 2024 Lunar New Year Event at Disney California AdventureFrom January 23 to February 18, the Lunar New Year Festival will turn Disney California Adventure Park into a vibrant destination with characters, entertainment, festive décor, merchandise and food. Whereas Walt Disney World and EPCOT basically phoned it in with a very uninspired food offering for the EPCOT Festival of the Arts, Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have knocked it out of the park with one of the best foodie guides we've seen in awhile.Lunar New Year Festival MarketplacesBamboo Blessings (Available Jan. 23 through Feb. 18) Strawberry Milk Tea Macaron: Strawberry buttercream with milk tea center (New) Mickey-shaped Hot Dog Bun: Brioche-style Mickey-shaped bun stuffed with hot dog and finished with sesame seeds and scallionsTaro Vietnamese-style Iced Coffee: Joffrey's Coffee & Tea Co. of the true magic of Disney is the level of detail that goes into the development of rides, attractions, hotels and more. Recently, Tiana's Bayou Adventure has continued this with a new update to the forthcoming ride that feature a custom handcrafted weathervane by Louisiana's master blacksmith, Darryl Reeves. We know that Disney loves its weathervanes, so in the spirit of the city of New Orleans (where people can pretty much see metalwork of Darryl Reeves no matter where they go), Disney hired this 3rd generation master blacksmith and Vietnam Veteran to create something very special for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. The new unique addition to the ride went up recently and marks another phase of progress towards opening day later this year. With over 50 years of service to his craft and New Orleans, it's nice to see that Disney asked Darryl to create the weathervane for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. A nice authentic addition.--Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, Amelia and I hope that you enjoyed it. News: Over at MiceChat, Dusty Sage was able to have a conversation with higher-up associated with Tiana's Bayou Adventure where he expressed his dismay at the focus on the search for a missing ingredient. If Dusty is right, there is a lot more going on with this attraction. Per his conversation, it is a sort of fake out for guests concealing the fact that they are doing a lot more with this attraction than has been announced. Massive set pieces are being installed to make this much more grand than the attraction that it is replacing. They are also spending a considerable amount on this project that they could have built an entirely new attraction. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ It is possible that by the time you listen to this, the Adventureland Treehouse could be open! All of the scaffolding has been removed and the construction tape is gone. The walls around the attraction seem to be the only thing holding back excited guests. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ The Paradise Pier Hotel will become the Pixar Place Hotel officially on January 30th, 2024. The new Luxo Lamp sculpture is yet to be installed, and the Great Maple restaurant is still under construction. The Disney Parks Blog posted images of the new room decor and all the reopening details. To see them yourself, head on over to the link in our show notes. –https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/10/opening-date-revealed-for-pixar-place-hotel-at-disneyland-resort-plus-sneak-peek-of-great-maple-menu-pixar-themed-hotel-rooms-and-more/ As we have spoken about a few times on the podcast recently, Toontown is undergoing some updates to fix the land's main interactive fountain and dreaming tree section. The CenTOONial Park is scheduled to reopen on October 30th, and then Goofy's How-to-Play Yard will close on the same day. Changes to this area are scheduled to wrap up and reopen to the public on November 10th. Hopefully, this will just leave Donald's Duck Pond having never been operating for guests. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/10/17/one-disney-attraction-will-reopen-soon-but-another-will-close-the-same-day/ A fun new activity is coming to the Disneyland Resort this Halloween Season. The Disney Parks Blog posted a Halloween Time Scavenger Hunt Around the Disneyland Resort. The scavenger hunt provides clues to find things in Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/10/try-our-new-disneyland-resort-halloween-scavenger-hunt-for-families/ Halloween is still about a week away, but Christmas is already moving in around the resort. Snow has started to fall on Sleeping Beauty Castle, resulting in the Disney100 decorations disappearing before the actual anniversary, lights are going up in the trees on Main Street, and New Orleans Square is starting to have its decorations installed. – https://www.micechat.com/371000-disneyland-update-snowfall-pumpkins-missed-opportunities/ Have you ever wanted to have breakfast with Santa? If so, act fast as Naples Restorante will offer “Breakfast with Santa” this holiday season on select days from November 25th through December 24th. Tickets are prepaid only and they have a 3-day cancellation policy. The event sounds fun and includes a small reception afterward with appetizers from Tongaroa Terrace. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2023/10/review-spirited-trader-sams-mixology-seminar-shakes-up-some-fun-at-disneyland-resort/ For Disney's 100th Anniversary on October 16th, the company threw a 23-hour Cast Member party! The event took place at Disneyland, but was backstage where Cast Members participated in a variety of activities like Disney100-exclusive screenings, dunk tanks where cast members could dunk their leads, speed puzzling, and more.
