Mike Lee Sen. Mike Lee introduced the Cartel Marque and Reprisal Reauthorization Act, allowing private entities to combat drug cartel smuggling and violence by seizing cartel assets outside the U.S. The proposed legislation, which echoes historical practices of granting private citizens authority to engage in acts against enemies, has implications for the gun community as it may enable armed citizens to take action against perceived threats from cartels. The Agency Brief Agency Brief — LETTERS OF MARQUE COLD OPEN "The same founders who supposedly 'never imagined AR-15s' literally wrote into the Constitution a program where private citizens could own warships, cannons, and get paid to hunt America's enemies. But sure, tell me more about how 'weapons of war' are only for the government." THE CORE STORY: CONSTITUTIONAL PIRACY The Power: Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 gives Congress the power to grant "Letters of Marque and Reprisal." This is a government license converting a private citizen into a legal combatant. It authorized the use of privately owned warships, cannons, and small arms to capture enemy vessels for profit. The Intent: The Founders distrusted standing armies. Their solution? Unleash the free market on America's enemies. It wasn't a loophole; it was the strategy. The Reality: This destroys the modern argument that civilians shouldn't own "weapons of war." The Constitution relies on it. FULL HISTORICAL BREAKDOWN Origins: Dates back to medieval times as a way for merchants to recoup losses from foreign thieves. Revolutionary War Usage: Continental Navy: ~60 ships. American Privateers: ~1,700 ships. Result: Private citizens captured ~600 British vessels and supplied the colonies with seized gunpowder and goods. War of 1812: The US Navy was still tiny. Privateers essentially fundamentally were the American naval strategy. Ordinary businessmen up-armored their schooners and decimated British trade routes. The Kill Switch: 1856 Declaration of Paris. European powers banned privateering to protect their massive state navies from scrappy private competition. Fact: The US never signed this treaty, but we eventually complied to fit in with "civilized" nations. Modern Attempt: Following 9/11, Rep. Ron Paul introduced bills to issue Letters of Marque to hunt al-Qaeda. The establishment buried it. They preferred a trillion-dollar occupation over a bounty-hunter approach. FACT CHECK SUMMARY Confirmed: Private citizens owned the 18th-century equivalent of nuclear-armed frigates (cannons/warships) with the blessing of the government. Myth: "Privateering was lawless piracy." Correction: It was highly regulated. "Prize Courts" adjudicated every capture. Lawless behavior was punished by hanging. Missing Context: The State's monopoly on violence is a modern invention. The Founders viewed war as a participatory duty of the armed citizen. Hidden Incentive: Why don't we use it now? Because the Defense Industrial Complex (Raytheon, Lockheed) cannot compete with low-cost private operators. The government wants total control, even if it costs more and works less. IMPACT ON GUN OWNERSHIP Reframing the Narrative: When anti-gunners say, "The 2A doesn't cover weapons of war," the response is: "Actually, Article 1 authorizes me to own a battleship." Bruen & Litigation: Under the Bruen test (Text, History, and Tradition), there is a robust tradition of civilians owning artillery and naval warships. If the history supports private ownership of cannons, it certainly supports private ownership of standard rifles and magazines. Cultural Impact: It moves the gun culture debate from "sporting purposes" to "national defense," which is where the Constitution places it. AGENCY NOTES (POLITICAL ANALYSIS) Regulatory Creep: We shifted from a Citizen-Militia/Privateer model to a Standing Army/Federal Law Enforcement model. The Motive: Control. An armed populace capable of waging naval war is impossible to oppress. A disarmed populace dependent on the Navy for protection is compliant. Action Item: Use Letters of Marque to mock the "F-15s and Nukes" argument. The Founders didn't just allow private firepower; they banked the nation's survival on it. The Alley Jelly Roll Receives Pardon as Gun Rights Restoration Program Returns The Trump administration has revived the federal gun rights restoration program by pardoning Jelly Roll, a notable figure,

Double Tap Episode 440 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Mitchell Defense, Night Fision, Second Call Defense, Rost Martin, and Swampfox Optics   Welcome to Double Tap, episode 440! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Text Dear WLS or Reviews. +1 743 500 2171 - Dear WLS Operative Enthalpy - Dear WLSWhat are your thoughts on a tunable gas block, like the one from Odin Works, versus a standard gas block, or an adjustable gas block. Is it a solution looking for a problem that should be solved by having a proper gas port size in your barrel, or is it a somewhat valuable option for tuning a range or hunting gun to function smoothly for general operating conditions.Operative Enthalpy Anonymous Coward from GA - Do you think the top part of a mermaid also tastes like fish or that it would actually be red meat? Would there be a solid line where the meat changes in their body or would it kind of blend? Could you make a surf and turf platter with one carcass? Fisher Cat - Hey guys, was thinking of getting a shotgun. In your opinion should I get a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500? Both of them are at my LGS for $400 and I'm torn between which would be better for home defense and hunting. Also, would a shotgun be a good weapon to have in an event where society collapses? Thanks keep up the good fight #ssb#ShootStraight Gaston Glock - Is the aftermarket beaver tail for Glocks to adjust the grip angle to be more like a 1911 a gimmick or would it actually be something to consider if you like how a 1911 feels in your hand. Zac C - Hey guys, just wanted to give an update on what I went with for my son's first real gun for his 13th birthday. Went with the ruger American gen 2 .243 20” barrel partly because of the removable LOP on the stock, then when he's bigger he can still use it as a full size gun. Added an sig buckmaster 3x9 that my brother got him paired with some leupold rings. Thanks for the opinions that I might hear before his next birthday. Shute str8 notes in 90-120 business days Scott G - I noticed we don't talk about Brownells anymore. Are they no longer a sponsor? Matt A - 2 questions…I have a comp'd g43x and am thinking about changing out the guide rod and spring to a lighter weight than the 17# oem spring. Is the a difference or an advantage in using a single spring guide rod set vs dual spring sets? Ammo used is defensive 124 gr jhp. In regards to ammo, what's the benefit to using +p ammo in a comp'd handgun and will the extra pressure negate what the compensator is supposed to do?Thanks and love the show.   Chris M - How much does the Gideon Guardeon 1-8x FFP scope weigh? My deer getter, a 16"" .450 bush hamster AR, with a 19oz Dead Air Primal is already getting kind of heavy. I have a swampfox trihawk on it now, and while it's nice, it's also a pound and if I could get more zooms for the same weight, I want to go back to an LPVO The winner of this week's swag pack is Zac C! On my second one and been carrying an Oscar Mike wallet for over 5 years. My question is was brc making the nylon goods in house or was someone making the soft foods for them to stamp a rhino onto? Have looked all across the interwebs trying to find a similar wallet to no avail. Even reached out to the customer support email from past brc orders with no reply. Maybe something Flatline Fiber Co. Could spool up and start making.? I can't be the only one who would run naked backwards thru a cornfield to get my hands on a few more Oscar Mike wallets. Thank you. Keep your powder dry. And shoot straight. #WLSISLIFE No notes Alex W - Just saying. When Shawn says Die Free Co. It sounds like hes saying "Die, freako!" Mine will be primarily used for larping/range use, and thought of using as kind of a “go bag” type setup. Thanks Scott G - Alright I I think the ace tac micro chest rig with the back pack is the closest to what I have been wanting for a day pack hunting/ hiking pack. It is missing 3 parts I think I can rig in to it but I'm looking for your advice as well. 1 I want to add a bino pouch to the chest rig , one of the set ups with a magnetic flip open top. 2 a holster for a G 19 x or G 17 my typical woods carry piece 3 water I am not a fan of bladders I like a Nalgene bottle. Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Agency 171 Jeremy - Future operatives, tonight, We speak to you from the hidden vaults of a legacy long whispered but never fully revealed. For years, our loyal listeners have stood with us in what we called "the cult," a bond forged in fire and fun. But the time has come to shed that skin and ascend to something deeper, something etched in the crimson ink of history. Nick - Welcome to Agency 171, a clandestine brotherhood born in the aftermath of our nation's founding, dedicated to the unyielding defense of liberty against those who seek to divide and disarm. No more mere cultists; you are now Operatives, rising through the ranks from Recruit to Director in the Covert Conclave. Your pledge isn't just support—it's an oath, unlocking exclusive intel, relics like the Loyalty Coin, and the power to strike back at tyranny. Savage - The old cult is nullified. Agency 171 is the future, step into the shadows. The Mandate watches, but we endure. Isn't it interesting how much the number 171 comes up in daily life? You'll see it everywhere—a sign, a call, your destiny. Lock and load, Operatives. The Agency awaits. Shawn - This is our new listener support program. Everyone who is a cult member will be migrated automatically tomorrow morning. You don't need to do anything except check your email (check spam). Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! GunCon PUBLIC EVENT - June 28th Location - Cleveland, Ohio at the Twist Drill Building (1242 E 49th St) Industry/Media Events - June 25-28 (Mixed locations around Cleveland area) https://guncon.net/event/guncon-2025/ use code wlsislife for $5 off   GOALS August 9th and 10th in Knoxville, Tennessee. https://events.goa.org/goals/ - Dear WLS Follow-up from last week-  (Original Question) I've been thinking about signing up for Second Call Defense. I probably will no matter the answer to this question but just had this thought and wanted to see what the response is. Does SCD cover you for other firearm related incidents that don't involve self defense? For example, carrying a gun in a commie state like if I vacationed to New York or Illinois? Slightly more extreme situation, do they help protect me if I'm found to be in possession of some NFA items without the proper paperwork? If I have the basic plan and someone in my household uses one of my guns to defend against an intruder and I'm not home, do they help with that if I own the home and gun? Are there specific circumstances that they blatantly say they don't cover or help with outside of the “I'm obviously completely in the wrong, misused a firearm, and am completely retarded” scenarios? You guys rock. No notes.   Additional Info From Mitch C:  I am the one that had the question about Second Call Defense and wanted to provide a little more clarity to what I was asking. When I heard you read it, I realized it did sound pretty retarded basically asking if I blatantly commit a felony will they protect me. That's not what I meant, Jeremy.   The NFA part in my question was in reference to if I had my legally owned can out at the range and for whatever reason I don't have a copy of my tax stamp on me. Or SBR. Or if there is a fudd agent that believes I have an unregistered SBR but it's really an AOW because my overall length is greater than 26”. I'm not asking if I just go ahead and drill a third hole on a Wednesday night if they will defend me in court. I just want to know if they will cover me against a power hungry, incompetent ATF agent or like I said earlier, a lapse in judgement where I grab the wrong range bag that doesn't have the tax stamp for my legally owned suppressor and my luck is so terrible that I cross an ATF check point at the range. Exaggerated and most likely not to happen but just curious.   The conceal carry in a bad state scenario is if I'm traveling from Ohio to Iowa and have to pass through Illinois. I believe the laws have changed to allow me to carry as long as I don't have plans to stay in Illinois but please correct me if I'm wrong on that. But if it's riot season and get caught up in a situation where I have to use it to protect myself, will SCD still cover me? Again, I know specific and it's still breaking the law, to agree with Jeremy, but will SCD still fight for my right to self protection in that state? And I don't even mean a Rittenhouse scenario, I mean I stop at a gas station to fill up and it just so happens to be wrong station at wrong time. I know, I know… be aware of surroundings and don't put yourself in those situations but on a drive I've never taken before to a place I've never before and it's just a stop for gas, who knows what's off that exit. Very specific, I know, but just trying to paint a picture. Or does SCD only cover me when everything is legal and black and white and in the lines? I feel like these scenarios are very gray areas and not so black and white. Yes it's illegal for me to carry in Illinois but does that still make it illegal ...

I've blown the budget on stuff from Swampfox, Gideon, Midwest, Brownell's, etc. One of the things that I never spent the money on was Second Call Defense. I always told myself that "I'll pick it up later". That is until a couple of weekends back when a family member of mine got into a shooting. He was hit but managed to kill his attacker. And while it is currently looking like it was a case of justified self defense, it really hit home to me that a.) This could happen any time, any where, and b.) Every bullet that you fire in this type of situation has a lawyer attached. The next day I signed up for Second Call Defense. I wish I would have done it sooner, but at least I am covered now. Thank you for the recommendation and for the great show. Also, Jeremy is a cunt.
