-Welcome to CNBC-TV18's Marketbuzz Podcast. Here aretop developments from around the world ahead of the trading session of September 25 -The Nifty 50 crossed the 26,000 mark on September 24. However, technical factors, along with the Nifty Financial Services expiry, took the index back to levels at which it closed on Monday. Nonetheless, 26,011 becomes the new record high for the Nifty, which has now gained over 1,000 points in the last nine trading sessions, starting September 11. -While the focus remained on the Nifty, there was plenty of stock-specific activity within the broader markets with the Midcap index clinging on to some gains but the smallcap index ended with losses of over half a percent. Stocks like AstraZeneca and IEX moved on their respective newsflow, while names like SH Kelkar and Arvind Smartspaces surged on positive brokerage commentary. -This morning the GIFT Nifty was trading with a discount of nearly 20 points from Nifty Futures' Tuesday close, indicating a start in the red for the Indian market. Wednesday will also be the monthly expiry of the Nifty Bank index and that has been the index to watch out for over the last few trading sessions. -With the Nifty having moved the way it has, with domestic triggers still a week away from emerging and a landmark and a major event out of the way, the question now emerges whether it will be prudent to book profits at current levels and then wait for earnings to shape up starting the second week of October. By next week, companies will already begin sharing their quarterly business updates and that becomes the next major trigger for the markets. -Stocks to track: Easy Trip Planners, real estate stocks, Delta Corp, KEC International, MCX, PC Jewellers, Gillette India, Zee Entertainment, Hindustan Foods, HDFC Life -SEBI has cleared the IPO papers for Hyundai Motor India Ltd. As per a Moneycontrol report, Swiggy has also received the nod from market regulator post its confidential filing of draft papers to launch a widely anticipated initial public offer. -Asian shares gained for a fifth day as a rally sparked by support measures from Beijing continued, while US stocks set fresh highs. Equity benchmarks rose in South Korea and Australia, while those for Japan slipped after the yen strengthened against the dollar in the prior two sessions. -Overnight on Wall Street, US markets continued to shrug off weak economic data to post yet another day of record highs. The Dow Jones gained 0.2% or just over 80 points, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.25%. Both indices hit all-time highs intraday and also closed at record levels. The Nasdaq too, surged 0.6% but is still 600 points away from its own record high levels. -In terms of commodities, oil steadied after its biggest advance in more than a week, as traders tracked developments in the Middle East and the impact on demand of China's stimulus measures. Gold hit a record trading above $2,662 an ounce. Tune in to the Marketbuzz Podcast for more cues

Episode 349 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Chris Gardner, Partner at Underscore VC. One time, could be luck. Two times, ok… maybe you are on to something… but in the case of Chris, he has been part of several acquisitions, so there is something deeply there in terms of his ability to pick the right company to join or company to help co-found. There is no denying it, based on his track record as an operator, there is an obvious translation to his current position as a venture capitalist. This episode is another fun walk down Boston tech memory lane, as we talk about some legendary companies that were acquired like edocs (an early e-billing and customer self-service applications), M-Qube (early mobile messaging and content services company), ExtendMedia (white label video platform), and Paydiant (an early mobile wallet tech company that powered payment apps for Subway, Harris Teeter supermarkets, Capital One, MCX, and many more). What I also find really interesting is how Chris' background spans across both product and marketing, where he led both entities at companies. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it is a skillset that I haven't seen too often. Chris is currently a Partner at Underscore, a firm that is investing in pre-Seed and Seed B2B software founders. The firm recently announced a new $58M Fund III. In this episode of our podcast, we cover: * Chris' background story and how he got into the tech industry. * The stories and his role in the companies previously mentioned including being a co-founder of Paydiant, their impact on mobile wallets, and the company's acquisition by PayPal and what he learned there. * How Chris became a VC and the details on what he is targeting in terms of investments at Underscore. * Pitch advice for startups and the importance of storytelling. * How you need to think about compensation structure as a company scales. * And so much more. The numbers may also be skewed due to the block deal that took place in Sobha on Friday morning. -Kotak Securities' Amol Athawale expects 25,000 to be a key hurdle for the bulls but crossing that can take the Nifty to 25,150 levels. 24,675 - 24,600 on the downside now becomes an important support, below which, the sentiment could change. -In terms of global cues, Asian shares snapped three days of losses to rise on Monday morning, before a week of key central bank decisions in Japan, the US and the UK, as well as some big tech earnings releases. -The Fed is likely to signal its plans to cut in September at the conclusion of its meeting on Wednesday, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg News, a move they say will kick off reductions each quarter through 2025. -Oil rose ahead of a key OPEC+ meeting this week, with analysts divided over whether the group will proceed with plans to boost supplies next quarter. -OLA Electric Mobility is set to launch its Rs 5,500 cr IPO on August 2 -Manu Bhaker has won bronze in air-pistol, bagging India's first medal at Paris Olympics -Gift Nifty was trading 0.3% higher from friday's close this morning, indicating a start in the green for the Indian market Tune in to the Marketbuzz Podcast for more cues

-Welcome back to CNBC-TV18's Marketbuzz Podcast. Here are all the important updates ahead of the trading session of June 24 -On Friday, frontline indices consolidated higher whereas the sectoral rotation continued with banks doing well last week. Bank Nifty ended 3.5% higher. The Nifty, meanwhile, huffed and puffed but managed to eke out some weekly gains. -Monsoon progress is also very critical as June has seen poor rains across the country. Meanwhile, India is to be included in the GBI-EM Global Diversified Index from June 28. Also, bond markets could see inflows of $30 billion over the next 10 months. -The upcoming week will be the June F&O series expiry and it has already been a 1,000-point series for the Nifty on the upside. While it will aim to end the week and the series on a high, the question is, will it get the required support from banks and IT stocks that lent support to the index for most of last week? -As of this morning, GIFT Nifty was trading with a discount of nearly 40 points from Nifty Futures' Friday close, indicating a start in the red for the Indian market today. -While the Nifty remains in consolidation mode, the action will lie in specific stocks, as has been the trend in the last few trading sessions. Most of the GST-linked names from fertilisers, to road construction companies to even gaming firm Delta Corp, may see a reaction during Monday's trading sessions. Block deals also continue with CarTrade Tech likely to see one go through on Monday. -The focus is starting to move towards Budget expectations. In fact, with preps underway several reports are hinting at a potential windfall for the middle class. According to a CNBC Aawaz report, the government is preparing to provide some relief to the middle class in this year's Budget. Stocks to watch: GST-linked names, CarTrade, banks, IT, Vedanta, Cipla, Sun Pharma, Lupin, MCX, Prestige Estates, PB Fintech, JSW Energy -Asian shares edged lower this morning, kicking off a week that includes measures of inflation that will help guide bets on the outlook for global interest rates. An index for the region's stocks was set to slip for a third session on Monday, with equities in South Korea falling and those for Japan swinging between gains and losses. Contracts for Hong Kong shares pointed to declines while US equity futures were steady after the S&P 500 fell on Friday amid a large options expiry. -This week, while parsing inflation data, traders will also be keeping watch on rising political risks. The first UK prime ministerial and US presidential debates are scheduled and the first round of voting in the French legislative election is set to take place this coming weekend. -In commodities, oil extended Friday's decline toward $80 a barrel amid a stronger greenback and a technical indicator suggesting the recent rally has gone too far. Gold fell amid a re-think of the Fed's rate cut outlook. Tuned in to Marketbuzz Podcast for more news and cues

30 Years HAMdj (NL) 1993-2023 - Part 12 (dj Hammink vs MCX Live @ Scum Katwijk, New Years Party '02-'03) (Hardstyle 1998-2002) For the 12th and final part of the 30 Years HAMdj show i digged up a set that's has a very special place in my memories. New Years Eve 2002-2003. Almost 21 years ago. My first big preformance, 2500 people. Most of them local. So i knew a lot of them haha. These days i was playing mostly Hardstyle and it was at the time that i got more and more gigs and build op a reasonable name in the amateur scene. Was resident at the House in Scum party's (Been this for 17 years total, 1994-2011) We did this party's ones a month, 2 local dj's and 1 famous one. And in the Harder Styles we had them all. But the New Years party at the Scum Katwijk, The Netherlands was on my wishlist for a few years allready. Played the party 2 times before but this was before 12 o'clock. And most visitors came after 12. They did the wishes at home with the family and than came to the party. So at prime time was on my Bucket List. This year it was that time. My friend Aad Hickman came with the idea to be the MC for my set. Normaly not a fan of MC's but he is a friend so i thought why not. Didn't played as HAMdj yet so we decided for that night. dj Hammink vs MCX. Must say, he was more a HipHop kind of guy so he didn't knew most of the tracks and he never preformed on stage before which was a big part in the Cult status this set got in our area and especialy in our friend group. And still we talk about it all those years later. It became know as the "wissle incident"!! Listen to the set and you will understand. We where kind of nervous that day, so told ourselfs to be sober, it worked untill around 11 that night. Than we desided to take 1 beer for the nerves. So when we had to prefore at 0315 we where waisted as fuck. But we rocked it. It was the first time the whole crouwd jumped left to right and from the frond to the back. This was kind of unique because most of them didn't even liked the Harder Styles. But Aad fueled them with his voice. And he wasn't even good, far from good. But it worked, we tore the place down! By far 1 of the best party's i ever played. So many good memories of this night by listening to this set again. Hope you all will enjoy it as much as i do. Indian benchmark indices — Sensex and Nifty 50 — are likely to open with minor gains on October 11, tracking global peers amid easing US rate concerns and stability in oil prices. In the previous session on October 10, the Nifty 50 closed just shy of 19,700. There was a 0.9% move in Sensex and Nifty 50 while IT caps outperformed with 1.4%. Meanwhile, on Wall Street, the S and P 500 gained half a percent and the Nasdaq rallied 0.7%. This was on the back of the easing of the U.S. 10-year bond deal and oil prices that have remained steady despite the conflict continuing in the Middle East. Oil prices have been steady for the last two days with Brent currently hovering around $88 per barrel. In the domestic market, the level to watch on the Nifty immediately will be the 20-day moving average at 19,769. Among stocks, TCS will be tracked even as its results for the September quarter will be released only post-market. It is likely to be a muted quarter with just 0.8% sequential top-line growth, according to a CNBC-TV18 poll of analysts. The focus will be more on the commentary as the street expects a recovery in the 2024-25 fiscal. Another thing to track would be the buyback that the company said it would consider today. Delta Corp will also announce its quarterly earnings later in the day. Meanwhile, Bank of Baroda has banned the onboarding of new customers on its mobile app, which is to moderate the pace of new customer acquisition to some extent. Also, confirming the CNBC-TV18 newsbreak, MCX has said it will go live with its new platform on October 16. Tune in to the podcast for more news and cues ahead of the session

Indian benchmark indices — Sensex and Nifty 50 — are likely to make a gap-down opening on October 9.   Though the trading session of October 6 ended on a positive note, the geopolitical tensions in Israel may halt the two-day rally of Nifty 50.  The Nifty 50 closed above 19,600 in the previous session, half a percent rise. Wall Street in the US too witnessed a solid session following stronger-than-expected jobs data.  Over the weekend, Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, and the conflict has dragged down for the third consecutive day. Following the attack, crude prices have already started rising. Brent crude has risen 4% overnight to above $88 a barrel on the back of the Israel-Hamas skirmish. The question is, whether this conflict is more localized or if will it broaden out regionally to engulf oil-producing countries like Iran. If that's the case, it needs to be seen whether net-importing countries like India will also underperform also. Gold Price Today: Due to the commotion around the world, action is being seen once again in the prices of gold. Due to weak global signals, gold has become cheaper in the domestic futures market. Gold on MCX has become cheaper by about Rs 100 and has slipped below Rs 60,200 in early trade. Similarly, the prices of silver have also fallen. MCX Silver is trading at Rs 75250 per kg after falling by Rs 222. Gold in international market The price of gold and silver has also broken in the foreign market. Gold is trading at $2000 per ounce on Comax. A slight softening of about $3 is being recorded in gold. Similarly, silver is also trading at $25.26 per ounce. The main reason for the softening of gold and silver prices in the international market is the update on bond yield and FED rate hike. In fact, due to the rise in bond yields and the possibility of a brake on the increase in interest rates, pressure is being seen on gold prices. Expert opinion on gold and silver According to commodity market expert and Anuj Gupta of IIFL Securities, gold and silver prices will continue to rise on MCX. Investors have a buying opinion for the June contract of gold in the futures market. Under this, the price of 10 grams of gold can reach up to Rs 60,500 in the coming days. Similarly, the May contract of silver will also go up and its price will go up to 76000.

Will the spike in natural gas prices affect related stocks?

Business Standard Podcast

The government hiked prices of domestically-produced natural gas prices by 40 per cent to $8.5 per metric million british thermal unit from $6.2 per metric million british thermal unit, as global prices firmed up. Additionally, over 26 per cent jump was applied to high pressure, high temperature gas prices to $12.5 per mmbtu. Analysts believe this would create pressure in the inflationary economy, as the component is used to generate electricity, make fertilizers, and also converted into compressed natural gas (CNG) to run automobiles. So far this year, prices of natural gas have soared over 81 per cent to $6.65 in the global markets.  Back home, spot natural gas prices have surged nearly 100 per cent to 551 rupees per mmbtu, during the same period, data from MCX suggested. For upstream producers like ONGC and Oil India, analysts expect every $1 rise in gas prices will lift their Ebitda levels in the range of 4 per cent to 7 per cent. Analysts peg 19 per cent upside in Ebitda levels for ONGC and 27 per cent upside for Oil India by FY25. On the other hand, for city gas distribution companies, analysts do not expect these companies to absorb all cost increases. “For each $/mmbtu gas price rise, CGDs need to raise CNG price by Rs 4.7-4.9/kg. For $2.5/mmbtu price rise, and also for recent currency weakness, CGDs will need an immediate CNG price increase of Rs 12-14/kg (15%-19%),” says Bhaskar Chakraborty and Niraj Todi of Jefferies. For fertiliser companies, analysts believe that the government's subsidy bill will soak higher costs and no impact on related-stocks will be seen for the near-term. However, the margin profile of tile manufacturers is likely to take a hit. AK Prabhakar, Head of Research, IDBI Capital, says no impact is likely on fertiliser stocks. Fertiliser subsidy bill to absorb the cost-rise. Margin of tile manufacturers to take a hit. Higher tile exports may offset cost-increases.  As regards today, FII flows, crude oil prices, rupee movement and global cues will continue to guide markets on Tuesday.

The share of the Information Technology sector in India's GDP has risen from 1.2% in 1998 to almost 10% in 2019. And it has made its presence felt globally too. Six Indian tech giants -- led by TCS and Infosys -- are now among the 25 most valuable IT brands worldwide, according to Brand Finance. TCS is now world number two, just behind Irish giant Accenture. We find out more about the Indian IT industry's journey so far, and also about the road ahead for it From the Indian IT giants, let us now shift our focus to the looming war clouds over Eastern Europe. The mounting tension between Russia and the Western world over the Kremlin's military build-up on the Ukrainian border is also providing the bullying fodder to the oil market. For the first time in seven years, oil touched $90 a barrel. And a disruption in supply may push it beyond the $100 mark. So what such a rise will mean for the Indian economy and will it upset the government's budget math? While oil prices soared, that of gold fell over 1% on MCX yesterday, in-line with equities. But, the weakness in the prices of the yellow metal is prompting Indians to buy more gold. The demand for gold jewellery had hit a six-year high in 2021. So, is the trend here to stay as investors flock to safe-haven assets in the backdrop of risks to inflation amid rising oil prices and faster-than-expected rise in interest rates in the US? Business Standard's Puneet Wadhwa caught up with Somasundaram PR, Regional CEO, India, at the World Gold Council to understand how the gold demand is likely to pan out in 2022. Several leading jewellers have, meanwhile, appealed to the government to reduce the import duty on gold in the upcoming budget. The Union government is now busy giving final touches to the contours of the budget, which will be presented on February 1. India's Union Budget can be classified into two parts -- the capital budget and the revenue budget. Let us delve into the details of the latter and more in this episode of the podcast.  Watch video

India, along with the US, People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, has decided to release five million barrels of crude oil from its strategic petroleum reserves in a concerted effort to bring down global crude oil prices.   This is the first of a kind coordinated move globally to tame the flaring crude oil prices.   Brent, the most popular benchmark in international trade for crude oil, hit $86.40 a barrel on October 26.   While prices cooled off since then to nearly $79 a barrel, they rose over three per cent in two days to hover around $83 per barrel-mark after the announcement.   While sector watchers say the quantity is not big, the release of five million barrels of crude oil from its SPR is a symbolic gesture on India's part. On an aggregate basis, too, the release of oil reserves by all the countries may add about 70 million to 80 million barrels of crude supply, smaller than the more-than-100 million barrels the market has been pricing in, say analysts at Goldman Sachs.   That said, all eyes now are on the OPEC meeting on December 2 that will set the tone for oil prices. Market watchers fear, the coordinated efforts by oil consuming countries may slow their output increase pace.   Going-forward, global crude oil prices are likely to remain volatile given fresh surge in Covid-19 cases in European countries and persisting energy crisis.    On technical charts, analysts at Reliance Securities say WTI Crude Oil January may slide up to $77.00-$75.44 level, with resistance seen around $78.80-$79.50 levels.   On the MCX, crude oil for December series could see a bearish momentum up to 5,840-5,770 levels. The resistance, she says, is at 5,920-5,966 levels.   Now, coming to Thursday's equity trading, F&O expiry will largely keep investors on the edge today.   That apart, trends in global stock markets, the movement of rupee against the dollar and investments by FPIs and DIIs will sway the indices. In the case of an emergency, quick response of a well-trained and experienced first responder is important, but equally as important is that those first responders have real-time access to the critical information they need. Interruptions in communication between first responders can create life or death situations, result in property damage or cause injuries. This is where Mission Critical communications, or MCX, comes in. In the world of MCX, Mission Critical Push to Anything (MCPTX) technologies play a key role in emergency communications. MCPTX is the upgrade to Mission Critical Push to Talk (MCPTT), which is the legacy walkie-talkie network that enables voice communication. Push to Anything expands on MCPTT, enabling the sharing of text, images, location mapping and video and all in real-time for a more wholistic, advanced critical communications system. With its updates, MCPTX can enable dispatchers and first responders, for example, to push video that holds important information to inform the team before heading into an emergency. The value of something like showing the blueprints of a burning building to a firefighter before they enter could be life-changing in a critical situation. MCPTX also supports interoperability with existing systems, so if an organization is working with legacy technology, MCPTX will connect seamlessly. Outside of public safety organizations like police, firefighters, emergency medical services and the military; MCX also interconnects and supports existing maritime, aviation, and railway networks and there is significant interest in deploying MCX-based services for other vertical industries that require critical communications.Though some industries are just now looking at beginning to deploy these services, companies like Samsung have been supporting these commercial rollouts for years. For example, last year, Samsung helped install a nationwide public safety network in South Korea and in the US, Samsung has partnered with AT&T to develop the FirstNet, a dedicated and highly secure non-public platform for public safety operating in the 700 MHz band. While a lot of work has already been done, MCPTX services are based on 4G and as we continue to see the advanced capabilities 5G can bring, Samsung and the standards bodies are working to support 5G commercial use in MCX over the next few years. 5G can bring crucial benefits for mission critical services such as enhanced mobile broadband and ultra-low latency to MCX solutions. While many advancements have already been made and deployed, the future of mission critical technologies is bright. Listen now to learn more about the power of end-to-end public safety solutions and the positive change coming to emergency communications that will keep our communities safer and more connected.

The benchmark indices eyed a lackluster start to the day as investors mulled how to position themselves with the markets hovering at all-time high levels and mixed global setup. Further, with the IPO market in full swing, the volume in the secondary markets could again remain subdued. After the IPOs of CarTrade Tech and Nuvoco Vistas which opened for subscription on Monday, two new IPOs - one by Aptus Value Housing Finance and other by Chemplast Sanmar - will also kick off today. Aptus Value Housing Finance's IPO is priced at Rs 346-353 per share and looks to raise Rs 2,780 crore at the upper end of the price band. The company garnered Rs 834 crore from anchor investors on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Chemplast Sanmar's Rs 3,850-crore IPO is priced in the range of Rs 530-541 a share. The company collected over Rs 1,732 crore from anchor investors on Monday. Meanwhile, the IPO of CarTrade Tech was subscribed 41 per cent at end of Day 1 and Nuvoco Vistas 16 per cent. On the global market front, US stocks dropped from record highs amid concerns about pullback in stimulus and a resurgence in the fast-spreading delta virus variant. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3 per cent and the S&P 500 lost 0.09 per cent. The Nasdaq Composite added 0.16 per cent. In Asia, too, the stocks drifted. Topix index rose 1 per cent, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and Hang Seng Index added 0.2 per cent each. Meanwhile, Kospi index fell 0.6 per cent. Amid this backdrop, SGX Nifty was trading 25 points down at 16,248 around 7.40, indicating a flat-to-negative start for Dalal Street. That apart, focus will also remain on the commodity markets, as global gold prices continued to languish at multi-month lows, hurt by a rise in US dollar and raised bets of Federal Reserve tapering stimulus earlier than expected. Spot gold was little changed at $1,730.47 per ounce. Oil although stabilised after hitting three-week lows but the gains are likely to be limited with the virus concern still looming. Brent crude was up by 0.4 per cent at $69.34 a barrel after falling 2.3 per cent on Monday. Now, a look at stock-specific triggers that are likely to sway the market today. Zomato, Coal India, Lupin, Power Grid Corporation of India, Ashoka Buildcon, Deepak Fertilisers, Eveready Industries, KIMS, Max Financial Services, Motherson Sumi Systems and Whirlpool of India are among over 200 companies slated to post their quarterly earnings today. Shree Cement posted Q1FY22 PAT at Rs 630 crore before adjustment, up by 90.7 per cent versus Rs 330 crore posted in the same quarter last year. The figure declined by 21 per cent versus Rs 798 crore reported at the end of March 2021 quarter. It also reported Rs 3,635 crore in consolidated operational revenues, which was 46 per cent more than Rs 2,487 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2020-21 . Reliance New Energy Solar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries, along with a few other investors, has announced an investment of $144 million in Ambri Inc, an energy storage company based in Massachusetts, USA. The National Stock Exchange will include 10 stocks to the F&O segment with effect from August 27. These include Can Fin Homes, Dixon Technologies, Hindustan Aeronautics, Indian Energy Exchange, IndiaMART InterMESH, Ipca Lab, MCX, Oracle Financial, Polycab India and Syngene International. The Securities Appellate Tribunal on Monday delivered a split verdict on the tussle between PNB Housing Finance and markets watchdog Sebi over the proposed Rs 4,000 crore investment by Carlyle Group, a development that will continue to keep the much-needed deal for the funds-starved lender in limbo.

Karin is back and in great form as she talks about one of her absolute favourite books from 19th century England.North and South, written by Elisabeth Gaskell, is a masterpiece of social, economic, political, religious and romantic storytelling. It charts the lives of mainly Margaret Hale, the Thorntons and the Higgins families through the turbulent times of the 1800s during the backlash against the Corn Laws, the formulation of the Anti-Corn League, religious division, social and economic hardship, mass poverty and the industrial revolution. It is a magical blend of intrigue, international trade friction and love that has mesmerised Karin for years and it is why this is her first choice of book from the era to discuss. Gaskell was not only a fabulous novelist, she had real character. It must be remembered how difficult it was in the 19th century for women to be recognised as authors, for their opinions to be heard at all, for them to express thoughts on politics or society or indeed to rival men in any intellectual capacity. Yet through the art of her writing Elisabeth Gaskell was able to do just that. As Karin points out, this was a powerful theme among a number of English women of the period.Just how much women such as Gaskell, Austin, the Bronte sisters and Mary Ann Evans (better known as George Eliot) influenced the Suffragettes at the start of the 20th century I cannot say, yet to believe that the intelligence, grit and deep humanitarian observation they wrote with most definitely influenced their own generation and many generations to follow is too much of a stretch. Many thanks Karin and it is wonderful to have you back!PS: During our conversation I also make reference to Zoe Scaman who has written this essay on some of the experiences women have faced in the advertising industry and it is important for people to realise that gender equality is a battle that still requires fighting. Foundations of Amateur Radio

Foundations of Amateur Radio One of the questions you're faced with when you start your amateur journey is around connectors. You quickly discover that every piece of equipment with an RF socket has a different one fit for purpose for that particular device. That purpose includes the frequency range of the device, but also things like water ingress, number of mating cycles, power levels, size, cost and more. As an aside, the number of mating cycles, how often you connect and disconnect something is determined by several factors, including the type of connection, manufacturing precision and the thickness of the plating. That said, even a so-called low cycle count connector, like say an SMA connector lasting 500 cycles will work just fine for the next 40 years if you only connect it once a month. Back to variety. My PlutoSDR has SMA connectors on it as do my band pass filters, my handheld and one RTL-SDR dongle. The other dongle uses MCX. Both my antenna analyser and UHF antenna have an N-type connector which is the case for my Yaesu radio that also has an extra SO239 which is what my coax switches have. My HF antenna comes into the shack as an F-type and nothing I currently own has BNC, but stuff I've previously played with, does. When you go out on a field-day, you mix and match your gear with that of your friends, introducing more connectors and combinations. Invariably you acquire a collection of adaptors. At first this might be only a couple, quickly growing to a handful, but after a while you're likely to have dozens or more. My collection, a decade's worth, which currently includes more than 25 different combinations is over a hundred individual adaptors and growing. For most of the time these have been tossed into a little tool box with a transparent lid, but more and more as the collection and variety grew I started to realise that I was unable to quickly locate an adaptor that I was sure I had, since it had been used in a different situation previously. In addition to coming to the realisation that the reason I couldn't find a connector was because it was still in use, I began to notice that I had daisy chains of connectors. For example, my HF antenna has a PL259 connector that is adapted to an F-type connector with an SO239 barrel, a PL259 to BNC and a BNC to F-type adaptor. At the other end of the RG6 coax that runs from outside into the shack, the reverse happens, F-type to BNC and BNC to PL259. If you're counting along, that's five adaptors to get from PL259 to PL259 via F-type. At this point you might wonder why I'm using RG6 coax. The short answer is that I have several rolls of it, left over from my days as an installer for broadband satellite internet. RG6 is very low loss, robust and heavily shielded. Although it's 75 Ohm - a whole other discussion - in practice that's not an issue. What is a problem is that the only connectors available for it are F-type compression connectors. To get those to PL259 requires a step sideways via BNC. My point is that the number of adaptors is increasing by the day. I should acknowledge the existence of so-called universal connector kits. The idea being that you go from one connector to a universal joiner and from that to another connector. Generally these kits have around 30 connections, giving you plenty of options, but in reality more often than not, you only have half a dozen universal joiners, so your money is effectively buying you half a dozen conversions, great for a field day, not so great for a permanent installation. You could build your own collection and use something like SMA or BNC as your universal joiner, which is something I'm exploring. To keep track of my collection, recently I started a spreadsheet. It's essentially a list showing the number and types of connections. If you make a pivot table from that you'll end up with a grid showing totals of adaptors you have. You can use this grid to fill a set of fishing tackle boxes and all of a sudden you've got a system where everything has its own place. If you start this process you'll quickly notice that the table only needs to be half filled, since a BNC to SMA is the same as an SMA to BNC adaptor. This leaves you space to do some fancy footwork where the bottom right hand of the triangle can fit into the top left of the empty space, but I'll leave you to figure that out. My table also includes things like TNC and MCX adaptors, but I don't use those very often, so at the moment I'm putting them in their own box together with T-adaptors and other weird and wonderful things like FME and reverse SMA. For setting the order, I've gone for alphabetic, but if you have a better suggestion, I'm all ears. My email address as always is cq@vk6flab.com. What ideas have you come up with to organise the chaos that is your sprawling connector library? I'm Onno VK6FLAB

The benchmark indices ended a two-month-long consolidation phase as they gained over 3% last week. This week, the market is likely to be guided by updates on the Covid-19, March quarter earnings as well as global trends, say analysts. Volatility is expected to remain high due to the scheduled derivatives expiry of May month contracts. The quarterly earnings season will come to a close this week, with 390 companies slated to post their quarterly scoreboard. Some of the top names on the list include Grasim, Eicher Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, BPCL, Sun Pharma and Divis Laboratories. Covid-19, meanwhile, will remain the biggest driving factor for the equity market this week. The stock market bulls, last week, were enthused by the signs of coronavirus cases peaking out in the country. But what remains to be seen is if the trend continues as the pace of the vaccination drive remains an overhang. India for the second consecutive day on Monday reported cases below the 2.5 lakh mark with 2.22 lakh cases. On Sunday, the fresh caseload stood at 2.4 lakh. Amid a drop in cases, a few states have hinted at the possibility of easing lockdown from next month onwards.
