It sparked one of only a handful of great obsessions in Ashley's life. One Piece and Naruto are two of the biggest of all time. He has two moms who look identical to each other. He's part of the Clamp School Detectives. He's in love with a kindergartener named Utako. It might be one of the best romantic relationships in any Clamp manga. Wait, what? Love is War aka Kaguya Sama ist eindeutig ein ganz anderes Kaliber und einfach lustig und toll zum Ansehen. Einen etwas komischen Aspekt hat diese Folge jedoch. Der Anime den Gorge mitgenommen hat haut uns nicht vom Hocker, was nichts Schlechtes sein muss, aber hört doch mal rein, denn es wird wie immer total lustig und spannend!

After a week off, we're back with another long episode! This time around, we're examining the category of shonen manga. It's one of (if not THE) best-selling forms of comics in the world, and obviously there's a lot of super popular anime based on shonen manga. Truth be told, though we read plenty of manga, neither of us tends to read much popular shonen, so we felt we needed to step out of our preferences and study something that millions of readers love. To wit, we decided to dabble by reading the first volumes of four big titles: Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata; Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama; Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge; and Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto. A Silent Voice became one of the most beloved manga of our time thanks to its raw and emotional exploration of bullying and its portrayal of living with a disability. On this episode, voice actress Kimlinh Tran and Shojo & Tell host Ashley discuss whether Shoya is a redeemable character, the effectiveness of punishment, and who wins first place for being the worst character (there are so many top contenders!). Of course, there are also comparisons between the manga and the movie adaptation (spoiler alert: the manga is better, and pushes what the medium can do in its valiant efforts to convey what living is like with deafness) and a weird shipping corner that’s mostly just about Naoka and Miyoko.
