Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) Allâhü Teâlâ'nın şöyle buyurduğunu bildirmiştir: "Âdemoğlunun her ameli kendisine mahsustur. Oruç müstesna. Zira o, bana mahsustur. Onun mükâfatını ben takdir edeceğim." Efendimiz (s.a.v.) şöyle buyurmuşlardır: "Oruç bir kalkandır. Sizden biri oruçlu olduğu gün cinsel ilişkide bulunmasın, cahillik edip de kem söz söylemesin. Biri ona sataşacak veya dalaşacak olursa "ben oruçlu bir kişiyim" desin. Muhammed (s.a.v.)'in canı yed-i kudretinde olan Allâh'a yemin olsun ki; elbette oruçlunun ağız kokusu, Allâhü Teâlâ katında misk kokusundan daha hoştur." (Buharî) "Kim Ramazan orucunu tutar ve ona Şevval ayından altı gün ilave ederse, sanki yılın bütününde oruç tutmuş gibi olur." "Allâh yolunda çift sadaka veren kimse, cennetin muhtelif kapılarından, ‘Ey Allâh'ın (sevgili) kulu! Burada hayır ve bereket vardır', diye çağırılır. Sürekli namaz kılanlar namaz kapısından, mücahidler cihad kapısından, oruçlular reyyân kapısından, sadaka vermeyi sevenler de sadaka kapısından (cennete girmeye) davet edilirler." (Riyazu's-Salihin, 1219) Ebû Bekir (r.a.): Anam babam sana feda olsun ey Allâh'ın Rasûlü! Gerçi bu kapıların birinden çağrılan kimse için bir sıkıntı yoktur; ama bu kapıların hepsinden birden çağrılacak kimseler de var mıdır? dedi. Resûlullâh (s.a.v.): "Evet, vardır. (Tirmizî) "Hilali görmedikçe oruç tutmayın, hilali görmedikçe iftar etmeyin..." (İmam Mâlik, Muvattâ) "Ramazan demeyin. Zira ramazan, Allâh'ın isimlerinden bir isimdir. Ramazan ayı deyin." (Beyhakî, Sünenu'l-Kübrâ) Ebu Hureyre (r.a.)'den rivayete göre adamın biri Peygamber Efendimiz (s.a.v.)'e gelerek şöyle dedi: "Ben Ramazan'da (oruçluyken) hanımımla birlikte oldum." Onun üzerine Peygamber Efendimiz (s.a.v.) "Köle azat et" buyurdu. Adam "imkânım yok" dediğinde Efendimiz (s.a.v.), "Peş peşe iki ay oruç tut" buyurdu. (Beyhakî, Sünenu'l-Kübrâ)

Orucun sadece yeyip içmeyi ve cinsî alâkayı kesmekten ibâret olduğunu zannetme. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) şöyle buyuruyorlar: "Nice oruç tutanlar vardır ki, onların oruçları sadece açlık ve susuzluktan ibarettir." (Müsned-i Ahmed) Böyle kimseler oruçluyken vücudun diğer organlarını günâhlardan korumayanlardır. Nitekim Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) buyuruyor ki: "Kim yalanı ve yalanla iş yapmayı terk etmezse, bilsin ki Allâh'ın onun yeme ve içmeyi terk etmesine ihtiyacı yoktur." (Buhârî) Tam ve kâmil bir oruç, bütün organlarını, göz, kulak, dil, el, ayak ve diğer organlarını Allâh (c.c.)'un yasak ettiği şeylerden, günâhlardan korumakla tutulan oruçtur. Oruçluyken gözünü harama bakmaktan, dilini haram ve faydasız şeyler konuşmaktan, kulağını Allâh (c.c.)'un haram ettiği şeyleri dinlemekten koruman icap eder. Mideni ve cinsiyet organını koruduğun gibi diğer bütün organlarını da günâhtan korumalısın. Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) buyuruyorlar ki:"Beş şey oruçlunun sevâbım yok eder: Yalan söylemek, gıybet etmek, koğuculuk yapmak, yalan yere yemin etmek, helâli olmayan bir kimseye şehvetle bakmak." Hz. Peygamber (s.a.v) şöyle buyurdu; "Bakış, Şeytân'ın zehirli oklarından bir oktur. Kim Allâh korkusundan dolayı harama bakmayı terk ederse, Allâh ona öyle bir imân verir ki, o kimse bunun tadını kalbinin ta derinliklerinde hisseder." (Hâkim) Peygamberimiz (s.a.v.) şöyle buyuruyorlar: "Gıybet yapanla gıybet yapanı dinleyen gıybetin günâhına ortakdırlar." "Oruç, koruyucu bir kalkandır. Sizden herhangi biriniz oruçluyken kötü söz söylemesin, haddini aşıp kötülük yapmasın, câhilce hareket etmesin, bir kimse kendisine öldüresiye saldırsa veya sövse bile, ben oruçluyum desin, ona karşılık vermesin." (Buhârî) (İmâm Gazâlî, Nasıl İyi Bir Kul Olunur?, s.269-272)

Onda bir gece (Kadir Gecesi) vardır ki bin aydan daha hayırlıdır. Allâhü Te'âlâ, o ayın orucunu farz kılmış ve gece ibâdetini (Terâvih Namâzı'nı) çok değerli bir nâfile kılmıştır. Kim bu ayda bir iyilik (nâfile) ile Allâh (c.c.)'a yaklaşırsa Ramazân dışında bir farzı yerine getiren gibidir. Kim de bu ayda bir farzı yerine getirirse bu ayın dışında yetmiş farzı yerine getiren gibidir. Bu ay sabır ayıdır. Sabrın karşılığı da cennettir. Bu ay insanların acılarına ortak olma ayıdır. Bu ay Mü'minin rızkının arttırıldığı aydır. Kim bu ayda bir oruçluyu iftâr ettirirse bu onun bütün günâhlarının bağışlanmasına ve cehennem ateşinden kurtulmasına sebeb olur. Ölü hayvan, hırsızlık malı, içki, domuz, vakıf malları ve bunlar gibi haram olan nesneleri yemek midenin âfetlerindendir. Oruç tutma kastı veya misafirden utanma meselesi yoksa fazla yemek, bedene zarar veren toprak, çamur ve benzeri şeyleri yemek ve içmek de mide âfetlerindendir. İçinde necis bulunan yılan eti ve kunduz gibi hayvanları tedavi için yeme hususunda görüş farkları olmuştur: Hastalık için bunlardan başka tedavi çaresi olmadığında caizdir, diyenlere karşılık, tedavi bunlara inhisar etmese bile şifâ oldukları biliniyorsa yenmeleri caizdir, diyenler de olmuştur. Fakat ihtiyata daha uygun olanı, bu gibi necis şeylerden mutlaka sakınmaktır. Sokaklarda halka karşı bir şeyler yemek, yolda yürürken bir şeyler çiğnemek, kabristanda yemek yemek, kahkahayla gülmek ve cenaze vuku bulan evde cenaze dolayısıyla hazırlanmış yemekten yemek mekruhtur. Sofrada kendi önüne gelen kısımdan değil de kabın ortasından veya başkasının önüne gelen kısımdan yemek mekruhtur. Ancak bir kaç çeşit yemek bulunursa o takdirde sofra ortasına el uzatılır. Ağızda arta kalan yemek kalıntılarını ve bir de sümük, tükrük ve balgamı kıble cihetine ve câmilerin içine atmak da mekruhtur. Bardağın kırık tarafından su içmek ve su içerken bardağa solumak da böyledir. Aşırı sıcak yemek yemek ve koklamak da mekruhtur. Fâsıkların, riyakârların ve emirlerin yemeğini yemek, zorla alındığı ve içinde hoş karşılanmayan bir şey olduğu bilinmiyorsa, haram değildir, belki müstehabdır. John Eidsmoe's presentation on "Defending the Decalogue" is a significant contribution to the discussion on the principles of the Ten Commandments. Eidsmoe's work is a testament to his commitment to constitutional law and his belief in the moral foundations of society. John A. Eidsmoe is an American attorney and professor of law emeritus. He has previously taught at the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama, the O. W. Coburn School of Law at Oral Roberts University (ORU), and at Oak Brook College of Law and Government Policy.  He was in the US Air Force as a lieutenant colonel and is an Alabama State Defense Force colonel, headquarters judge advocate, deputy chaplain and training officer. He earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa, M.A. from Dallas Theological Seminary, M. Div. from Lutheran Brethren Seminary and D. When Kay Redden moved to Seattle from Garland, Texas, she made it her mission to connect with her newly adopted home through music. So, in searching for meaning after mother’s death in April 2015, she launched Den Tapes, spending countless hours hand-dubbing cassettes. It wasn’t long before local bands gravitated toward her down-to-earth, community-oriented approach to music distribution. This year, she’s marking the label’s tenth birthday with a compilation titled What Else is Sacred? A Compilation of Grief, as well as a curated two-day lineup at Den Fest on August 8 and 9 at Sunset Tavern. KEXP’s Dusty Henry spoke with Redden to explore the label’s ten-year history through five standout albums. “I am anti Seattle Freeze,” Redden says in the interview. “I don't believe in it. There are too many transplants here now for it to be real. I want to make a community that actually welcomes you with open arms.” On that note, when it comes to Den Fest, she advises showgoers: “Come and be prepared to dance a little bit. If you don't like dancing, stand at the back,” she laughs. #215: Paul Mills is the head men's basketball coach at Wichita State University. Prior to his tenure at Wichita State, Mills served as the head coach at Oral Roberts University from 2017 to 2023. Under his leadership, the Golden Eagles achieved significant success, including a historic Sweet 16 appearance in the 2021 NCAA Tournament as a 15-seed, making them just the second team in history to reach that stage from such a low seed. In the 2022–23 season, Mills guided ORU to a 30–5 record, an undefeated 18–0 run through the Summit League, and a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. His coaching prowess earned him recognition as a finalist for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year award and the NABC's Skip Prosser Man of the Year honor. Before his time at Oral Roberts, Mills spent 14 years at Baylor University, initially as a coordinator of operations from 2003 to 2009 and then as an assistant coach from 2009 to 2017. During his tenure, Baylor made seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Elite Eight and four Sweet 16 berths. Mills began his coaching career at the high school level, leading his teams to multiple district championships. He also served as the director of basketball operations at Rice University for one year.
