Speed Racer, based on a popular Japanese Manga and cartoon from the 1960s, is a CGI explosion of high speed hijinks. Directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski, it embodies much of what made the series so beloved. That works to its benefit and detriment. For those unfamiliar with Speed Racer's inspiration, there is a barrier to entry. Essentially, this is an eccentric film based on an eccentric property. And the sheer amount of colors and whizzing computer effects don't make Speed Racer any easier to digest. It is a live action cartoon, where almost everything thrown at you looks flat. It comes as no surprise then that this failed to recoup its $120 million budget, earning just $93.9 million. Critics also largely dismissed it. Speed Racer sits at 42% on Rotten Tomatoes with 218 reviews. All that aside, though, this is a movie fans of the property seem to love, and, undeniably, there is a certain charm to the movie. Unlimited Void is one of, if not the most advanced technique in the arsenal of the Limitless. Satoru Gojo inherited the Six Eyes and likely mastered his Domain Expansion after awakening his full potential after the Star Plasma Vessel escort mission. He first displayed his mastery over his domain when he used it to counter Jogo's Coffin of the Iron Mountain. Unlimited Void was the more refined of the two domains and easily supressed Coffin of the Iron Mountain.

‘Thin Blue Line' Comics Writer, & Legend Mike Baron Talks Comics, Police, And Woke Politics

The Happy Warrior Podcast

Check us out on HappyWarrior.substack.com Comic creators are finally pushing back against the subversive wokeness and identity politics ripping the medium and our culture apart. Mike Baron, with his new pro-police comic, “The Thin Blue Line,” is one of them. You may not be familiar with Mike Baron's name, but you will have likely enjoyed the influence of his work. Baron is a two-time Eisner Award winner who worked for DC Comics and Marvel and had a prolific run with “The Punisher” during the 1980s and 1990s. During his career, he covered everything from “Star Wars” to “The Flash” and “Batman.” An example of Baron's influence can be seen in the hit Netflix series version of “The Punisher.” Micro, the orthodox Jewish hacker, is a Baron creation, as is the anti-security state narrative. Indeed, some of the most woke comics creators today, like Gail Simone, cite Baron's comics as significant influences. It can't escape the notice of normies and comics fans alike that the western comic book publishing industry seems to ripen more towards its destruction every day. Legacy characters like Superman or Robin get replaced with hollowed-out woke versions. At the same time, the storylines they appear in are sanitized and boring. The industry continues to fall further apart as Japanese Manga sales entirely supplant it. The bulk of the sales in the western “comics industry” are now Scholastic books for 8-year-olds. Things are so bad major creators have left for the life raft called Substack. There are even whispers that one of the big two, DC and Marvel, will stop publishing comics altogether in a few years. So it's a big deal when notable creators like Baron get involved to right the ship and make comics fun again. In an interview with The Federalist, Baron discussed his latest pro-law enforcement comics project, the influence. Needless to say, there is plenty of laugh-out-loud humor when cultures collide, and The Salaryman gives both foreign and Japanese readers an inside look on everything Mike had the pleasure and horror of experiencing! For the interview, we caught Mike during a major transition in his life, where a great opportunity in publishing has him returning to live in his hometown of Chicago, but it will also allow him to frequently return to Japan. Mike opens up about his mixed feelings about no longer living in Japan, the things he will miss about the culture, and the recent efforts he has made with his Japanese in-laws to strengthen their relationship following his divorce a couple of years ago. Today, Nick Stember, the expert on Chinese Manhua (similar to Japanese Manga), joins us as we discuss a short manhua cartoon booklet that was published in 1950. The booklet was meant to be a simple way to explain the 1950 Marriage Law, one of the first acts passed by the new Communist government. The Law legitimized the Communists in the eyes of many Chinese women and their progressive allies. It was the first Chinese to legalize a woman's right to divorce (divorce had been permitted before, but under circumstances generally unfavorable to women), and it modernized many of the old customs in rural China. This was the first in a series of feminist policies the Communists implemented, and the text we explore today provides an interesting angle through which to explore gender, propaganda and ideology in 1950's China.

This film has sparked controversy on its casting choices, with many critics claiming another instance of Hollywood whitewashing due to film’s Japanese manga. We discuss the nature of remakes, the whitewashing controversy, whether the film adds to the Ghost world, and Scarlett Johansson. The futuristic sci-fi film Ghost in the Shell is directed by Rupert Sanders and based on the acclaimed Japanese Manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. It takes place in a futuristic alternate reality and follows a cyber-enhanced super soldier as she searches for a hacker as part of an anti-terrorism squad. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as Major, the first of her kind, human brain (ghost) encapsulated in an entirely cybernetic / synthetic body (shell). In a world where terrorism has reached new levels, the film offers an interesting view of a potential evolutionary path for humans – where the lines between technology and biology are blurred almost beyond recognition, with the very question of what makes someone human at stake. Is Ghost in the Shell the perfect conversation starter for the cultural moment?
