Gibraltar's Coroner's Court will open an inquest touching on the death of Simon Parkes, the sailor who disappeared in Gibraltar on the 12th December 1986. The Minister for Justice, Nigel Feetham, has given his consent. This follows a campaign by GBC Journalist Ros Astengo, with the support of lawyers acting on a pro-bono basis, to help bring justice for his family. Over the course of the morning the MET office issued a weather advisory for heavy rain from ten this morning until one tomorrow night. A separate heavy rain warning may be issued if the total rainfall is expected to be more than 50 millimetres in six hours. We spoke to Principal Meteological Officer, Katy Lowe.The Police Federation says a strong message needs to be sent out to anyone who believes they can use violence against emergency service and care workers with no more than a slap on the wrist. The police union says officers dedicate their lives to protecting the public and all they ask in return is to be protected in return. Chairman of the Police Federation, Calum Bruce, stressed this further in the studio. Jose Mari Ruiz brought us the latest in sports, with both men's and women's football, the Special Olympics in Monaco, and Ironman 70.3 over in Tangier.And, tomorrow is Stroke Awareness Day - there are several symptoms that you can look out for which can make a difference for the patient. The parents of Simon Parkes are calling for an Coroner's Inquest to look into the circumstances surrounding Simon Parkes's death in Gibraltar 37 years ago. Our reporter Ros Astengo and lawyer Daniel Feetham discussed what an inquest could bring to the investigation.This coming Sunday is Rory's Walk, a fundraising event in aid of Brain Tumour Research. Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet only 1% of cancer research funding is allocated to brain tumour research. Rory's brother and sister, James and Fabiola Culatto, spoke to us about the walk, which has been held every year since Rory's passing.And, Joe Gingell has written a new book titled "The War Came Home", all about the evacuation of the Gibraltar civilian population and the role played by Gibraltar during World War II. In 1986, a young Navy Seaman went missing from Gibraltar, a British naval base, after the ship The Illustrious docked for a few days. Simon Parkes's grief-stricken parents would search for him for more than fifteen years, until 2001 when a connection was made between Simon and two other young cadets who went missing. Their bodies would surface, but Simon's would not. Hoy te invitamos a visitar uno de los sitios más importantes de conciertos en Londres: la Brixton Academy.The Brixton Academy tiene capacidad para casi 5mil personas. Está ubicado hacia el sur de Londres, a una media hora de subte, por la línea Victoria. Como bonus track vale visitar también la casa natal de David Bowie, que está a cuatro cuadras de ahí.La historia del lugar cuenta que fue inaugurado en 1929 como cine y teatro, con el nombre The Astoria. Recién se convirtió en sala de conciertos en 1972, cuando le cambiaron el nombre a Sundown Centre. El edificio estuvo a punto de ser demolido, fue utilizado como depósito, fue remodelado varias veces... pero siempre terminó siendo un fracaso económico.Hasta que en 1983 un tal Simon Parkes, que tenía por entonces 23 años, logró convencer a los dueños del lugar, también propietarios de una conocida marca de cerveza, que les vendieran el edificio por un valor simbólico de una libra, a cambio del compromiso de vender exclusivamente esa cerveza por 10 años.Los comienzos como Brixton Academy tampoco fueron fáciles. En la década de los '80s la zona era medio marginal y Parkes no conseguía convencer a las grandes bandas de tocar tan alejadas del centro. Como no podía atraer público decidió producir shows para la gente del barrio, y así programó bandas de Reggae como Burning Spear, Dennis Brown y Yellowman.De a poco fue ganándose su prestigio y se convirtió en una sala para causas políticas y reclamos contra el establishment. Como por ejemplo el ciclo de shows que dio The Clash en 1984 en apoyo de una huelga minera.La Brixton Academy fue el lugar elegido por las bandas norteamericanas de Grunge para tocar en Londres. Por ahí pasaron Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement y Nirvana. Y hablando de Nirvana... la banda de Seattle tenía programadas cuatro presentaciones para abril de 1994, con entradas agotadas, pero nunca pudieron concretarse: Kurt Cobain se suicidó el 5 de abril. La sala estaba obligada a devolver el dinero de las entradas vendidas y eso hubiera llevado a la empresa al borde de la quiebra. Y una vez más apareció la genialidad de Simon Parkes: el dueño hizo correr el rumor de que esos tickets tendrían gran valor para los coleccionistas. Así, poca gente exigió la devolución y la Brixton Academy pudo seguir adelante.Y hay mucho más. Brian May editó un disco en vivo en el ‘94. Kasabian, en 2004, en el show final de la primera gira de la banda. The Wombats, en 2008. El video en VHS "Academy", de New Order, fue registrado en éste escenario en abril de 1987.Quizás uno de los momentos más importantes sea el concierto por los 25 años de Motörhead en el año 2000, llamado "25 & Alive Boneshaker", lanzado en DVD y tres años después como un disco de audio, bajo el nombre "LIve at Brixton Academy".La Brixton Academy es una referencia no solamente para artistas británicos. Los brasileños Sepultura registraron en este lugar el disco "Under a Pale Grey Sky" en 1996, que resultaría ser el último show con Max Calavera como guitarrista y cantante. Los Pixies lanzaron un disco en vivo inmediatamente tras cada uno de los cuatro conciertos que dieron acá en el 2004. Moby grabó su show el 19 de mayo de 2005 y lo puso a la venta en la propia sala tras el concierto. Y los californianos Hole, la banda de Courtney Love, grabaron acá en 1995 sus sesiones para el MTV Unplugged.Y nos despedimos con el track que abre precisamente "25 & Alive Boneshaker", el DVD de Motörhead grabado en el Brixton Academy el 22 de octubre del año 2000.
