Im Mittelpunkt stehen die vier Hauptfiguren, die sogenannten Star Sheriffs: Da haben wir Saber Rider, den charismatischen Anführer, der mit seiner ruhigen und überlegten Art das Team leitet. Fireball, der ehemalige Rennfahrer, bringt Geschwindigkeit und Jugendlichkeit ins Team. Colt ist der treffsichere Revolverheld mit einer Vorliebe für das Flirten, und April, die geniale Ingenieurin, hält mit ihren technischen Fähigkeiten das Team zusammen. Die Gegner unserer Helden, die Outriders, kommen aus einer anderen Dimension und haben es auf die menschlichen Welten abgesehen. Ihre Fähigkeit, nach einer Niederlage in ihre Dimension zurückzuspringen, gibt der Serie einen interessanten Twist. Ein Highlight der Serie ist zweifelsohne der Ramrod, ein Raumschiff, das sich in einen gigantischen Roboter verwandeln kann. Diese Transformationsszenen sind nicht nur ein visueller Leckerbissen, sondern auch ein zentraler Bestandteil der Action. Die Serie ist berühmt für ihre Mischung aus Action, Drama und gelegentlichem Humor, verpackt in den ästhetischen Stil der 80er Jahre, einschließlich einer unvergesslichen Titelmelodie, die sofort ins Ohr geht. Serien sprängde censurgränserna som fanns inom barnprogram på tv under 1970-talet. För första gången på åratal kunde man i en tecknad tv-serie se en muskelsuperhjälte som slog folk med sin knytnäve. Han använde dock inte sitt svärd så ofta, utan brukade vanligtvis lyfta sina fiender och kasta dem. En annan sak som gjorde serien kontroversiell var att den producerades i samband med att reklam för leksakerna gjordes. Barnreklam var kontroversiellt vid denna tid. I Storbritannien förbjöds reklam för He-man-leksaker i samband med själva programmet. Som andra serier vid samma tid, bland annat G.I. Joe, gjordes även en "moral" efter avsnitten. Moralen var ofta bunden direkt till avsnittets handling. Serien var den första leksaksbaserade tecknade att produceras direkt för syndikering. Andra tecknade TV-serier i syndikering var denna sändes på lördagsmornarna. Det producerades även en spinoff 1985-1987 som hette She-Ra: Princess of Power, som handlade om He-Mans syster She-Ra:s äventyr, samt The New Adventures of He-Man 1990-1991 och en ny version av He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 2002-2004.    Gällande Saber Rider: Saber Rider är chef för Stjärnsherifferna som han leder i många och farliga äventyr genom rymden. Saber Rider och hans vänner, den vackra vetenskapskvinnan April och dom två Stjärnsherifferna Colt och Fireball kämpar mot Spökryttarna som leds av den ondskefulle Nemisis. Spökryttarna är svårfångade för att de kan färdas genom olika dimensioner.  Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is an animated television space Western, similar to the series The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers and BraveStarr. The series premiered in the United States in 1987 and had a run of 52 episodes.[1] The show was based on Star Musketeer Bismarck (星銃士ビスマルク, Seijūshi Bisumaruku), a Japanese anime series created by Studio Pierrot that achieved moderate success in Japan. The English language rights to the series were purchased by World Events Productions (WEP), the same company behind the English-language version of Voltron, in 1986.[2] WEP reorganized and rewrote the series, incorporating most of the original episodes and creating 6 new ones, before releasing it under the name Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. On Episode 138 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis celebrates the 45th Anniversary of the premiere of Battle of the Planets! This is an American adaptation of the Japanese anime series Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (1972). Of the 105 original Gatchaman episodes, 85 were used in the Battle of the Planets adaptation, produced by Sandy Frank Entertainment. Assisting Curtis in this endeavor is FRANKLIN COFOD, the editor who was responsible for overseeing the small editing staff for Sandy Frank Entertainment, as well as doing much of the editing himself. Following Battle of the Planets, he was able to expand his scope to include production, and he acted as head director on the series Voltron, Defender of the Universe and Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. Also joining the discussion is Author and BotP Historian JASON HOFIUS. Jason is the co-author (with George Khoury) of G-Force Animated: The Official Battle of the Planets Guidebook, as well as the creator of the exhaustive website BattleOfThePlanets.info. Wir spielen den "Euro Truck Simulator 2" - und finden das abseits von Hektik und Explosionen in anderen Spielen mal äußerst entspannend. Warum es unglaublich beruhigend sein kann, von Spielen mal nicht gefordert zu werden, bereden wir zu Beginn von Folge 48. Außerdem erzählt Tobi, warum er es mal wieder in die Lokalzeitung geschafft hat und was er in der Zeit der Kurzarbeit daheim gebastelt hat. Es geht außerdem um Erwartungen und Enttäuschungen. Ist es immer so gut, im Vorfeld mega gehypet über etwas zu sein? Oder kann man dann vielleicht nur enttäuscht werden? Was waren wir alle gehypet, als die neue Star Wars-Trilogie oder der vierte Indiana Jones angekündigt wurde... manchmal kann dann nur eine Enttäuschung folgen. Wir reden darüber, denn genau das ist einigen Nintendo-Fans im Rahmen der jüngsten "Nintendo Direct" passiert. Dabei gab es doch eigentlich keinen Grund, enttäuscht zu sein - oder? Enttäuscht war einer von uns beiden auch im Filmbingo, obwohl sich der französische Mega-Erfolg "Ziemlich beste Freunde" und der Zeichentrick-Kult "Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs" doch eigentlich ganz gut anhören. Ihr werdet überrascht sein. Und damit die Folge nicht völlig enttäuschend wird, haben wir eine große Ankündigung zu Folge 50 für euch. Japp, wir lassen die Katze aus dem Sack... freut euch drauf!

[rating:3/5] MATTHEW SABER RIDER AND THE STAR SHERIFFS Writer: Mairghread Scott Artist: Sendol Arts Publisher: Lion Forge Comics Back in the 1980s animation explosion, few cartoons stood taller than the tech-heavy Japanese imports that led to timeless classics like Voltron. That particular team also made a nostalgic few seasons of gloriously cheesy excitement called Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, a sci-fi/western genre mashup with its own giant transforming robot voiced by Peter Cullen (better known to us as good old Optimus Prime!). For those of us who remember Saber Rider there’s always a big, “I remember that!” moment when it resurfaces. And for those who don’t, it’s an undiscovered gem of cereal-chomping Saturday morning fun. Another great season of comic book and fandom conventions is upon us, so Marc took advantage to have an interview with Voltron's Lance and Sven, Michael Bell, at RetroCon in Oaks, PA. Meanwhile, down in Atlanta, RetroBlasting presented a panel on "The History of Voltron" at DragonCon. There's plenty more Voltron in this episode, including some words from the fans. Kicking off the episode, Marc mentions that Voltron: From the Ashes - Issue #1 - was released on September 16th. Issue #2 will be released on October 21st.
