It’s been ten years since Stephanie Scott, a high school teacher from Leeton, NSW, was tragically murdered on school grounds by the janitor. Vincent Stanford was arrested after police found evidence linking him to the crime—scratches on his body, bloodstains in his car, and disturbing photos of Stephanie’s body on his phone. He pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. But what we’ve learned since is that Stephanie wasn’t even his intended victim. Sarah Crawford, a journalist who’s been following this case for the past decade, joins us now. In today's episode I've interviewed the entire November 2023 cohort and asked them 4 questions regarding their experience at the Chateau d'Orquevaux Artist & Writers Residency. We go over expectations, what they accomplished, what they wished they had brought, and what are they going to change in their life once the residency is over. The artists in this cohort ranged in age from 19 to mid 70's and were from 4 different countries. They are sculptures, painters, fiber artists, poets, novelists, screenwriters, and more. I asked them these 4 questions: What did you expect to accomplish at the Chateau d'Orquevaux residency vs what did you actually end up creating? What's something you brought or wish you had brought that would have made your time at the residency better? What are you going to change in your life after coming to this art residency? What's some advice you would have for someone planning on coming to the Chateau Orquevaux? All 21 artists had very different answers and advice, a lot of which is specific to what they create. If you are thinking about going to the Chateau D'Orquevaux art residency and have questions, leave a comment!Thank you so much to my cohort for agreeing to be on Brush Work Podcast! In November of 2023 I spent a month at the Chateau d'Orquevaux artists and writers residency.I had applied the year before in hope that the second time was the charm and that I'd get the chance to visit the worlds most beautiful artist residency. Getting in was the biggest delight and saving up the money for it was my driving force for the 18 months leading up to it. Now that I'm home and recovered from the jetlag, I wanted to share with you my personal audio diary I kept while at the Chateau. This diary is from a few days before leaving, every day at the residency, and a few days after getting back home. I go into detail about what I experienced each day, talk about things I was learning, share tips for people wanting to come to the residency, and more.See all the tips written out: https://www.stephaniescott.art/2024/1/16/chateau-audio-diary Host and artist Stephanie Scott breaks down the practicality of the art career with topics including: sustainable creative practices, social media skills, and the mindsets that keep it all together.
