My guest for this episode is Katie Miller. Katie is a compassionate Trauma Healing and Resolution Guide. She has mentored over 250 youths, emphasizing the significance of embracing their personal pause button. As Assistant Director and Co-Founder of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, she strives to eliminate the need for suicide intervention programs, fostering hope and positive change.   Katie equips individuals with tools to overcome struggles and nurture positive mental states, bringing holistic transformation and a beacon of hope to all she reaches.  Katie got into nonprofit work accidentally when one of her sisters gave a 7-minute talk about her multi-suicide attempts, wanting to get the tools into the hands of teens before they need them. This was the event that launched the Teen Suicide Prevention Society by Katie's family (her mom and sisters).  Katie is a high school graduate who loves to read. She also loves to dance like no one is watching and sing like no one is listening. And she occasionally builds with Legos. Here's what to expect during the episode: What innovative approaches have nonprofit organizations developed to engage at-risk populations and provide effective suicide prevention support? How did the founder's experience with the teen suicide prevention society inspire them to transition to becoming an entrepreneur? What types of tools are most effective in helping teenagers manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges? How is the personal pause button designed to help individuals manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelm in real-time situations?  What other mindfulness techniques can someone employ to reduce stress and stay grounded? Welcome to the first in our series on "Back to School & Off to College".Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life according to the World Health Organization. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24 in the U.S. and Nearly 20% of high school students report serious thoughts of suicide and 9% have made an attempt to take their lives. My guest today, author Jackie Simmons, and her daughters are working to change those numbers. Through founding the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, they are working to educate parents to have"The Suicide Talk" with their teens and young adults regardless of whether or not they see signs of struggle. In this episode Jackie takes us through this talk, the importance of it, and how it can possibly save your teen or young adult's life. She is showing us how normalizing talk around suicide is the only way to pre-empt it.In this episode we discuss:Why the "suicide talk" is so important. What it looks like and how it works. How many numbers of people are affected from one suicide or attempted suicide. Why pre-empting suicide with open dialogue is so important. How parents "miss" the signs of their children's struggle. The best prevention tool. How to suicide proof. How the talk and language around suicide is being normalized and why it's a good thing.Who is at risk of suicide?Knowing the best time to have the suicide talk.I hope that you will search out Jackie at the free tools she has available. The journey Jackie Simmons took to become a coach is one uniquely her own. A profound difference in how she approaches engaging with her clients is by working with them on aligning who they are and how they best interact with the world themselves so they can create their village of people to best support them. Amazing! Her passion extends beyond that of helping others harness their potential, it also extends to helping people figure out how to live. Jackie shares with us the story of her daughter, Stephanie, who attempted to take her life 14 times. It was because of the struggles her daughter faced that Jackie, along with her daughters, decided to create the non-profit, Teen Suicide Prevention Society, to prevent teen suicide. As Jackie shared, "We've learned that people don't attempt to take their own lives because they're trying to die. They attempt to take their own lives because they haven't figured out how to live." May is Mental Health Month and we are honored to share with you Jackie's story.  Author and TEDx Speaker, Jackie Simmons, believes in tackling complex and challenging topics and making sense out of them.As the creator of Conscious Transformational Coaching, Jackie believes that you deserve to experience yourself as great, every session, every time. Jackie shares alternatives to get you unstuck, find out what's true and what's not true – spot the elephant in the room – so that you can have what you want and what you deserve.Life doesn't always give us time to experience ourselves as great. Life often hands us the opposite. On April 1, 2020, Jackie and her 3 daughters co-founded the non-profit, Teen Suicide Prevention Society and launched the mission to make teen suicide a thing of the past. The mission has grown to include two books, 3 programs, and “The Talk that Saves Lives” which Jackie presented on January 16, 2021 at TEDx TenayaPaseo in Las Vegas.Connect with Jackie to learn more about her and her background:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mindsetisagame/TedX Talk: "The Talk that Saves Lives"Book, The Happiness Advantage by Shawn AchorBook, Big Potential by Shawn AchorBook, Before Happiness by Shawn AchorBook, Cracking the Code by JW WilsonSign up for our newsletter at https://abbraccigroup.com/. Blindsided by her 14-year-old daughter's suicide attempt in 1995, Jackie entered a world of depression, addiction, medical mysteries, and deadly silences.  TEDx speaker, Radio Show Host, International Best-selling Author, Mindset Magician, co-founder, and Director of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, Jackie Simmons is best known for her mission to “Make teen suicide a thing of the past.”  The journey into the world of mental health services and cultural taboos left Jackie feeling lost and alone.  “I'm fine” on the outside, Jackie hid her deep, psychic wounds behind a façade of frantic entrepreneurial activity.   Then on August 3, 2019, Jackie's now 37-year-old daughter, broke the silence. Jackie calls August 3, the day her “purpose tapped her on the shoulder.”  For Jackie Simmons, the leap from “Sales Trainer” and “Stress Management Consultant” to “Emotional Resilience Training” and “Mindset Mastery” was short in linear time and long in unwinding the limiting beliefs that held her back and kept her playing small.  Along the way, Jackie explored many dead ends and followed several false prophets. Jackie also worked with amazing creators of transformative training and technologies.  During her interview, she shares her story but more importantly, what you can do to help stop the pandemic of teen suicide.

What To Do When Your Business Coach Is A Bully - Katie Miller | TSPS 148

Jackie has been told that she can go places that angels fear to tread. So she is going to go ahead and name the elephant in the room, actually the bully in the room. Jackie is going to do this in the bravest way she can think of and interview her eldest daughter, Katie. We are going to go with this concept of what do you do when your business coach is a bully. So this is really a subject near and dear to Jackie's heart. So, from Katie's point of view, what do you do when your business coach is a bully? Katie Miller is the eldest daughter of Jackie and one of the co-founders of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. When her sister broke the silence of her suicide attempts, Katie was surprised that she only had vague memories of the initial attempt and no recollection of any others. What she does recall is something different. Katie recalls how hard, or impossible, it was to talk to her parents or her friends' parents about “the hard stuff” and what was going on. When Katie became a mom herself, she knew things were going to be different. Katie had one main rule when it came to her son: he could talk to her about anything without judgement or fear of consequences. Now he is a teenager, and this “judgement free” house is something his friends are grateful for. I'm going to interview myself! Actually, it's going to be more of a discussion with you. We're going to go into the world that God created. When I realized that there was a need to have the talk with your teen about suicide, before you think it's needed, what happened after that, led to this. It's not easy to talk about. That's the storyline of my brain, on the topic of suicide, especially the topic of teen suicide. It wasn't easy to talk about 24 years ago, when my daughter first tried to kill herself. And it's not easy to talk about today. But I must find a way to have this talk with you. TEDx speaker, radio show host, international best-selling author, Emotional Resilience Grand Master Trainer, and co-founder of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, Jackie Simmons is best known for her mission to “Wake Up The World.” Blindsided by her 14-year-old daughter's suicide attempt in 1995, Jackie entered a world of depression, addictions, medical mysteries, and deadly silences. The journey into the world of mental health services and cultural taboos left Jackie feeling lost and alone. “OK” on the outside, Jackie hid her deep, psychic wounds from the world behind a façade of frantic entrepreneurial activity. Then on August 3, 2019, Jackie's {then 37-year-old) daughter broke the silence. Jackie wasn't ready. She calls August 3, 2019, the day her “purpose tapped her on the shoulder.” Please join Jackie on her mission to make teen suicide a thing of the past. Join the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. My guest today is Jackie Simmons, a parent who is on a mission to prevent suicides on teens through having “The Talk”. Last May she gave a TEDx talk called, Have "The Talk" to Stop Teen Suicide. Jackie is a speaker, Radio Show Host, International Best-selling Author, Emotional Resilience Grand Master Trainer, co-founder and Director of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. Jackie is best known for her mission to “Stop Teen Suicide.” Along the way she expects to shake up the mental health industry and challenge the way the world views suicide prevention.  Jackie states that we have the talk about sex before they think about having sex, we have the talk about alcohol and drugs before our teens are thinking about alcohol and drugs. So why aren't we having the talk about suicide before teens are at risk for suicide. Jackie states you want to have the talk about suicide before you think your teens need it. Jackie fights suicide by being an advocate for living. "The Talk" is not a substitute for having your teen evaluated or treated by a doctor or mental health professional. Again, If you have any concerns about your teen, please contact your mental health professional. Jackie offers us a very simple and yet powerfully effective way to talk to our teens about this uncomfortable subject. This could be the most important talk you have ever had with your teen. This is for the US only and does not include those who died. And this was before COVID-19, now the numbers are continuing to rise. Katie was introduced to Social Intelligence Learning and realized that this could be the key to help children break open the walls that have been created by not talking about our emotions. Katie Miller is a published author and one of the co-founders of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society. Links: www.BecomingGenuine.com
