I can't believe it's four years since we interviewed Teleri Fielden on the Outdoor Lives Podcast. This episode was recorded in 2020 just after the Corona virus has swept through the nation. You can actually come and meet Teleri this summer on our Down on the Farm Workshop. Come and find out more about the realities of farming, in particular nature friendly farming. Teleri has sheep and beef cattle on the land. She grazes the cattle on the hill in summer and seeing them up there is fabulous. She has been on her own farm for four years and is now married with a baby, so she's busy! Come and see how she's getting on four years on…

After Morgoth is defeated and captured, Sauron repents of his deeds, but upon facing a sentence from Manwë flees into Middle-earth and returns to his evil ways. After the War of Wrath, Beleriand is destroyed and swallowed by the sea up to Ered Luin. Gil-galad rules Lindon by the Gulf of Lhûn just east of Ered Luin. Teleri elves from Doriath and Ossiriand move inland and dwell among Silvan Elves. The remaining Noldor dwell in Eregion near Khazad-dûm and prosper in friendship with the Dwarves. Sauron seeks to gain influence over the Noldori Elves. He wins them over by insisting that he desires to make Middle-earth a great land. He calls himself Lord of Gifts and shares his knowledge and lore with them. The Elves create several Rings of Power. Sauron creates his One Ring in order to control the wearers of the other rings. Due to their might, he is forced to put much of his strength into the One Ring, but he is able to see all that is done by the wearers of the Rings of Power. The Elves sense him and remove their rings. In anger, Sauron makes open war on them and demands that they give over the rings since they were made with his lore. The Elves flee and are able to save the greatest Three Rings: Narya, the Ring of Fire; Nenya, the Ring of Water; and Vilya, the Ring of Air. 01:19 Dan reads pages 285-288 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 13:19 Summary 14:59 Discussion Watch this Episode on YouTube Send feedback to beforethefellowship@gmail.com Follow us as we follow Tolkien: TWITTER DISCORD The Rings of Power comes to Amazon, but nothing compares to the real story JRR Tolkien wrote. The Valar discuss Eärendil's fate, and Manwë decrees that Eärendil, Elwing, and their sons will decide to join their fate to Men or Elves. Eärendil and Elwing choose the fate of the Elves. Vingilot, Eärendil's ship, is hallowed, and Eärendil is able to sail through the heavens and beyond the confines of the world. This is all satire, everything!
In this episode of the Pacific War Podcast, Ian and Craig talk about the Elven armies of Tolkien's first age. The Eldar began as the Vanyar, Noldor and Teleri, whom spoke Vanyarin Quenya, Noldorin Quenya and Telerin. During “the Great Journey”, while the Noldor, Vanyar and some Teleri traveled to Valinor, many of the Teleri chose to stay, becoming known as the Sindar and Nandor. The Sindar and Nandor also held subgroups as well, the Laiquendi, who later became Silvan and Iathrim, Falathrim, Mithrim. The Teleri would be the first Eldar Morgoth would face in battle after returning to Middle-Earth. Of the three Eldar races, each had a preference of weaponry, although it was by no means exclusive: the Vanyar preferred spears, the Noldor swords and shield, the Teleri bows, and their subgroup the Nandor preferred axes There would be numerous Elven realms during the first age who all had unique armies and ways of performing combat. Craig and Ian go through all of them, trying to unfold how they operated and what were they similar to in our worlds ancient history. Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss Oriana's choice of topic: the Noldor. Also termed the Deep-elves and, in early versions of the legendarium, the Gnomes – thankfully changed given unavoidable associations – they were one of the three ethnicities of the Eldar in general, the first Children of Iluvatar. As compared to the serene Vanyar and the many generally lower-key societies of the Teleri, the Noldor were the ones most driven by the desire to create and to learn about the world in general, though these tendencies, exacerbated by Melkor in his Valinorean captivity and the internal family strife of their royal house, resulted in all the many deeds of fame in Middle-earth on the one hand but also their near total destruction and eventual fading away on the other. By the time of The Lord of the Rings, only small societies and remnants were left, casting an influence on the course of events but not directing them. What can we learn from the stories of the women of the Noldor in particular, not just Galadriel but other figures such as Fëanor's mother Míriel and his wife Nerdanel or the Nargothrond princess Finduilas? What throughlines did Tolkien suggest in terms of how the Noldor both seemed the most human of the Elves as well as being driven by the same ambiguous creative impulses that haunted any number of beings in the legendarium? How does the decision to keep them from the center of the many arcs of The Lord of the Rings help shape the book into being the story that it is? And just how much of an obsessive creative type do you have to be to not only devise the writing system for your culture but to insist on sticking to a particular pronunciation because you're still mad about how things ended up with your family?Show Notes.Jared's doodle.

After the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on 24 February 2022, Elena Kostyuchenco, one of Russia's most fearless independent journalists, crossed into Ukraine to report on what was happening in the country. The paper she had worked at for 17 years, Novaya Gazeta, was shut down just months later in response to her reporting. Elena's latest book, I Love Russia, gives a rare insight into her homeland, bringing us voices we have never heard. She speaks to Emma Barnett. We hear from Karen Farquharson who has been awarded £37,000 at an employment tribunal after her boss told her she used the menopause as an “excuse for everything”. In a separate case, a woman assisted by the Equality and Human Rights commission says her menopausal symptoms should be considered, in her case, as a disability. The economist Vicky Pryce comments on the potential implications of the case. We talk to BBC Wales political correspondent Teleri Glyn Jones about the victimisation of a whistle-blower and a complainant who made allegations of a serious nature about the Plaid Cymru MS Rhys ab Owen. Both say they were harassed by a family member of the MS who has been suspended from his party since last November pending an investigation by the Welsh Parliament's standards watchdog. Emma Barnett also talks to former Plaid Cymru politician Nerys Evans who recently produced the damning report into Plaid's sexual harassment complaints procedures earlier this year. Innes Fitzgerald is the current under 17s UK number one in the 3000 metres and she's made the conscious decision to no longer fly to any championships or running events abroad. She's been nominated for Young Athlete of the Year in the BBC Green Sports Awards. She joins Emma to tell us more. Presenter: Emma Barnett Producer: Lisa Jenkinson Studio Manager: Sue Maillot
Aredhel becomes weary of Gondolin and leaves. She is ensnared by Eöl, a Teleri who dwells in darkness and despises the Noldor. Eöl takes her as his wife, and they have a son, Maeglin. Mother and Son flee to Gondolin but are pursued by Eöl who is taken by guards before Turgon. Turgon gives him a fateful choice: Stay forever, or die. Three friends read and react to the greatest story you've never heard — the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. 01:17 Greg reads pages 125-130 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 29:42 Recap "In the telling of these tales there was awakened in Aredhel a desire to see her own kin again, and she marvelled that she had grown weary of the light of Gondolin, and the fountains in the sun, and the green sward of Tumladen under the windy skies of spring; moreover she was often alone in the shadows when both her son and her husband were away. Of these tales also grew the first quarrels of Maeglin and Eöl. For by no means would his mother reveal to Maeglin where Turgon dwelt, nor by what means one might come thither, and he bided his time, trusting yet to wheedle the secret from her, or perhaps to read her unguarded mind; but ere that could be done he desired to look on the Noldor and speak with the sons of Fëanor, his kin, that dwelt not far away." Fëanor goes to ask the Teleri for aid. Olwë refuses to help, and so Fëanor and his host attempt to steal the Teleri ships. A bitter fight breaks out, and the Noldor overcome the Teleri when Fingolfin's host arrives. Mandos arrives to speak condemnation. Three friends read and react to the greatest story you've never heard — the Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. 00:49 Greg reads pages 85-89 from the Silmarillion, 2nd Edition 13:22 Recap 14:41 Discussion "But as the mind of Fëanor cooled and took counsel he perceived overlate that all these great companies would never overcome the long leagues to the north, nor cross the seas at the last, save with the aid of ships; yet it would need long time and toil to build so great a fleet, even were there any among the Noldor skilled in that craft. He resolved now therefore to persuade the Teleri, ever friends to the Noldor, to join with them; and in his rebellion he thought that thus the bliss of Valinor might be further diminished and his power for war upon Morgoth be increased." Having taken a scenic detour in Chapter 2, in Chapter 3 we pick up where Chapter 1 left off. Though the Blessed Realm of Aman is now lit by the Two Trees of Valinor, the rest of Middle-earth lay in “twilight under the stars”. While the Valar and their people dwell in relative security, Melkor labors ceaselessly to dominate the rest of the world, even as the dawn of the Children of Ilúvatar draws nigh.WATCH THE VIDEO» https://youtu.be/2ZEa5HCYYYAThe audio of this episode was released 2 days early and ad-free for our amazing patrons!EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS » Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien, John R ARTWORK» https://www.deviantart.com/kuliszu/art/Awakening-of-the-Elves-774075830In Chapter 3, we'll learn:- How Melkor gathered great armies to himself- How The Valar Discovered The Elves- How War Was Waged Against Melkor For The Sake of The Elves- How Melkor Was taken captive to Valinor- How The Elves Were Summoned To Valinor- How The Various Groups of Elves Came To Be- The Names Of The Great Elf-LordsCONTENTS:- Quote Of The Week » 4:30- Middle-earth In Twilight » 9:20- Discovering The Elves » 26:10- The War Against Melkor & The Siege Of Utumno » 34:30- Summoning The Elves » 48:20- Vanyar, Noldor, Teleri, etc » 59:40- Haiku » 1:08:30HELPFUL LINKS:- listen to The Silmarillion for FREE » https://www.audibletrial.com/everon- buy The Silmarillion » https://amzn.to/3FOKAY5- buy The Atlas of Middle-earth » https://amzn.to/3KLOxQa- buy Tolkien's Requiem » https://tolkiensrequiem.com/- buy Tolkien's Overture » https://tolkiensoverture.com/- Timeline of Arda » https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline_of_Arda- Episode 7 » https://youtu.be/G-t7o7WGxyk SPECIAL THANKS:- John R- Kaitlyn of Tea with Tolkien- Ms. Anonymous- Andrew T- Redhawk- Shannon S- Brian O- Emilio P- Zeke F- James A- James L- Chris L- Chuck F- Asya V- Ish of the Hammer- Teresa C- David of Pints with Jack- Jonathan D- Eric S- Joey S- Eric B- Johanna T- Mike M- Robert H- Paul D- Julia- Werty- Matthew W- JoeBagelMan- Chris KAS WELL AS THOSE CELEBRATING THEIR PATRON ANNIVERSARY THIS MONTH (FEBRUARY OF 2022): Sarah W, Dyreanir, Robert H, Jon R, Ish of the Hammer, Cat L, Asya V, David Bigwood, Sarah M, Eric B, Chuck F
We all know Tolkien's elves are immortal, beautiful, strong, and basically perfect. But they're anything but homogenous! In this video I discuss the three main Elven sub-groups--the Vanyar, the Noldor, and the Teleri--and point out some of the important characters from each group.

We made it to Episode 50 of the Behind the Golf Brand Podcast. In this week's episode, I interview my good friends Teleri Hughes, of Teleri Athletics. As a collegiate golfer at the University of Tennessee, Teleri had the incredible opportunity to work with young aspiring girl golfers at clinics and events with the team, travel for tournaments nationally, and even abroad to play for the National Ladies Welsh Team in the European Team Championships. Through these experiences, she learned just how important golf apparel is for girls and women, and spent time late at night sketching more designs and learning how to start her own business. After graduating from Tennessee in May 2017, Teleri had time to fully focus on launching Teleri Athletics, knowing she wanted to stay in the golf world and combine her love of style with the sport. It was important for her to create apparel that gives golfers of today and the future something that they enjoy wearing but also has what they need to compete. Teleri is able to pull from her history with golf, as well as bring to fruition the changes to the problems she and her friends and competitors all had with the current apparel offerings. All apparel in the collections are named after people who have been influential in her junior, collegiate and amateur career.Support the show (https://legiongolf.co/)
30 year old Teleri is a new entrant farmer who, despite not growing up on a farm, has always wanted to be in agriculture - announcing to her Mum at the age of four that she wanted to be a 'lady farmer'! Teleri has recently began a 10 year tenancy on a 100acre farm in Nantmor, Beddgelert with her fiancé Ned (who also isn't from a farming background!) and sheepdogs Roy and Ralff. She works off-farm for FUW (Farmers' Union of Wales) and is also on the Nature Friendly Farming Network steering group for Wales.
The impact of COVID 19 on the world wool market has led to some farmers burning or composting fleeces because it’s not worth packing them for sale. Most British wool is used in things like carpets for hospitality, for example hotels, cruise ships and airports, and a fall in demand has hit wool prices. Charlotte Smith speaks to one Welsh farmer whose been giving his fleeces away for free. In Northern Ireland, we hear why a helicopter is dropping big rolls of coconut husks on Cuilcagh Mountain. It's part of a £100,000 project to restore peatlands in an effort to hit the UK's net zero targets. Where they're damaged by wildfires, drainage or overgrazing, peatlands release large amounts of carbon. And as part of a week where we hear from young rural voices about how they see the future of the countryside, we meet Teleri Fielden. She's 30 and rents a 100 acre hill farm in Snowdonia. She isn’t from a farming family and started out thanks in part to a scheme run by the National Trust and Wales Young Farmers which gave her a year running a hill farm. Though its changing, farming is still a male dominated industry and the average age of a farmer is about 58 - but Teleri says we shouldn't see that as a problem, but instead see older farmers as a resource. The Journey to Aman and the Lights of the Two Trees was not one of peace. For the children of Eru would undergo sorrow and separation. Losing sight of their kin for many years, near beyond measure. But one group would stay steadfast. The Nolder, The Vanyar and some Teleri would follow the path led by Orome and heeding the call of Ulmo did reach the shores of Valinor. But many did not. For the love of their King held fast the kin of Elwe to abide in the forest of Beleriand until his return. And many others held fear as their sway and stayed to abide by the shores of the Sea of Sirion. Thus the sundering of the Quendi continued. This Episode was Scripted by Neisha T MulchanRead by Luis Lacau and Neisha T Mulchan Produced by Luis LacauWith Characters and Stories based on JRR and Christopher Tolkien's writings. All music and sounds used are Royalty free.#Vanyar #Quendi #Lordoftherings #Fantasy #nerd #Geek #Highfantasy #audiodrama #TheHobbit #Tolkien #CellarDoor #Gandalf #Frodo #Mordor #Middleearth

Ben teams up with presenter of The Wild Voices Project podcast, Matt Williams, to speak to Teleri Fielden, aka The Snowdonia Shepherdess in Wales.
This conversation is with Teleri Fielden (@TeleriFielden), the National Trust and Welsh Young Farmers scholar at Llyndy Isaf farm in Snowdonia. Teleri was recently featured on the BBC’s Snowdonia Shepherdess programme. She looks after a farm on the slopes of the Welsh mountains in Snowdonia. And in this conversation tells us about her experience in this landscape and how farming cattle and sheep can be beneficial for wildlife and conservation. Teleri’s interest in farming and the outdoors comes from spending time as a child on her grandfather’s farm. She tells us how that turned into her opportunity to take on the scholarship at Llyndy for three years. She also talks about some of her encounters with wildlife in the landscape. And she tells us how skills from marketing roles have helped her in her farming career to date. This is a very special episode of the Wild Voices Project podcast in collaboration with the Meet the Farmers podcast (http://thinkingcountry.com/meet-the-farmers-podcast) presented by Ben Eagle (@benjy_eagle). Elwe gets lost, the Vanyar are boring, and the Teleri take so, so long.
