Tim's vision for the Fund included not only providing scholarships but also the development of scholar support programs and services created to ensure the success of the scholars including pre-college physicals, laptops for each scholar and a high school to college transition program. Jay joined the George Snow Scholarship Fund as the Vice President of Development in January of 2023, after a successful showing at Boca's Ballroom Battle. Previously, Jay was the Executive Director at St. Jude Catholic Church & School in Boca Raton. Have you ever wondered about the life of a professional triathlete? In this podcast series, we interview current and retired QT2 Systems Professional Triathletes, exploring the path to earning (and maintaining) a pro license, the nuts and bolts of training and racing, and the ups and downs along the way. The guests also share how being a pro triathlete shaped their lives, and what advice they would give to their younger selves. Episode 6 features Doug MacLean. In 2006, at age 26, without any significant swim, bike or run experience, Doug decided to enter the world of triathlon. He raced IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene and IRONMAN Lake Placid in 2017, finishing both in under 11 hours. In December of 2018, Doug decided to dedicate himself to training and racing full time.  After a couple of years of being self-coached, Doug came to QT2 Systems in 2009. Under the coaching guidance of Tim Snow, Doug raced his first Kona in 2010, and then in 2011, won the amateur race at IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene, earning his pro license. Doug jumped straight into the pro circuit, and earned his first paycheck in his second race. Doug raced as a pro from 2011 through 2019, with his most memorable races coming late in his career - IRONMAN Boulder in 2018, and Challenge Roth in 2019. Through triathlon, Doug was able to achieve his childhood goal of becoming a professional athlete. Triathlete by night. This woman somehow found a way to balance it all. Lenny "fell" into the sport of triathlon in 2014 as a path to recovery from knee surgery. She soon found that she had a natural talent (coupled with a tremendous work ethic), and in just her second season racing, qualified for the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships. The following year, she took the overall Age Group win at two IRONMAN 70.3 events, earning her pro card.  Lenny started racing pro in 2017, now coached by Tim Snow. Over the next six years, Lenny raced full seasons as a pro triathlete while at the same time continuing with her full time job and life at home. To keep it all in the balance, Lenny learned to be very strict with her schedule and focus on what she was doing at that moment in time (and not worrying about what she wasn't doing).  After a strong race at IRONMAN Maryland in 2023, Lenny decided to retire from the sport of triathlon. The balance of life had shifted enough that she no longer felt like she had the time she needed to compete at the level she knew she was capable. When asked if she would do it again, her answer was "100% ... I wouldn't give it up for the world." She will forever value the opportunity she had to race at the highest level and to learn what her body was capable of. Her advice to her younger self - "Don't put so much pressure on yourself ... things don't always need to be perfect." Today I sat down with Tim Snow, the President of the George Snow Scholarship Fund in Boca Raton, Florida. The George Snow Scholarship Fund, established in 1982, has been helping students achieve their educational goals with substantial scholarship awards going towards their secondary education needs. In 2020 alone the fund awarded over $1.5 million in scholarships and support to 161 students within the Boca Raton community. Along with discussing the fundraising efforts and what the selection committee looks for in aspiring Snow Scholars, Tim also talks about what steps aspiring entrepreneurs can take to build a successful non-profit in your community that will be helping people for years to come. Coach Tim Snow wasn't thinking about spread formations when he first started studying the Pistol Power Offense System in 2015. That first version of the system looked a lot more like the traditional One Back Offense that I first learned from Coach Bill Mountjoy years ago. But the great thing about the System is that it evolves. And as Coach Snow and the Winnisquam High School offense evolved in New Hampshire, so did their offensive playbook. The version of the playbook that won back to back New Hampshire State Championships in 2018 and 2019 uses a lot more wide open spread formations. But it keeps the same core principles and schemes. Each season, the Winnisquam staff takes a look at what his athletes can do. Then they build the playbook around that, while keeping the core teachings. After using a bruising rushing attack for 3 seasons, the talent the small New England school changed. It was time for a wide open attack. Starting in 2018, Coach Snow incorporated spread formations, the read option, and an expanded passing attack. That took Winnisquam to their first State Championship. The following season, the offense continued to evolve. RPOs were added to open up the playbook for an athletic Quarterback who's understanding of how to read a defense continued to improve. Winnisquam rode that development all the way to a second State Championship in 2019. They'll look to defend the Championship and three-peat (do I owe someone money for that?) in 2020. Play Calling with Spread Formations It's not just about the playbook. Coaches have to know how to choose what to use from the playbook. It's not just about spread formations. It's knowing what your athletes can handle, and what they can do best. Season to season, you're selecting the plays and formations that define your identity. You need to adapt to the style that fits your athletes best. You also need to game plan each week for how you're going to attack the opponent. Then you're looking at how to call the plays during the game. Play selection throughout the game determines the outcome much more than the game planning you do on the weekends. The Winnisquam offense has that down, scoring three times as many points in the second half as they did in the first half during 2019.
