Travis Turner was murdered August 26, 2019, in Kansas City. His murder remains unsolved.Who Dunnit Sisters, a Kansas City true crime podcast, focuses on unsolved murder and missing person cases in the Kansas City area.
Travis Turner discovered the secret to a fulfilling life: learning to give control of his life over to God. That was after a lot of early success, walking on and earning a starting spot as a quarterback at the University of Nebraska. But that success created problems. He always wanted to work for God, but his priorities needed restructuring, and when his wife left with his two girls, he realized he needed to make a change. Others surrounded him and walked with him, helping him to learn about relationships, and he and his wife were able to rebuild their relationship. Together they started Divine Romance Ministries, mentoring men and women in the area of marriage relationships. God then led him to a new challenge, as the campus pastor at Arizona Christian University, and the two ministries have woven together to help support families in many ways. They talk about Egyptian cosmology, the construction of the pyramids, giants in Egyptian myth, and how fragments of Ancient Egyptian religion are still alive today in the world of the Occult and in the work of people like Aleistar Crowley and the Freemasons. Have you ever heard of Candiria? If the answer is no, then you need to listen to Candiria. Even if you have never heard this band, you have heard them in the DNA of so many other bands that you like. An industry inflection point is coming in the transition to value: federal and state governments are feeling an insurmountable level of pressure as public debt and spending increase, large employers are reeling from high healthcare costs, and provider organizations are being crushed by the current environment as they realize that FFS is perilous in the middle of a pandemic. Health system executives not leading with a strategy in health value are increasingly facing significant financial uncertainty. The coming industry shift to value is all but inevitable, however, pivoting successfully will require long-term strategic planning and investment in cultural alignment, technology and infrastructure, and partnerships. When Travis Turner heard Dr. Don Berwick speak about the transformation to population health and value-based payments, he listened. Berwick had said the worst position to be in when transitioning from fee-for-service is static, stuck with a foot in each canoe – the change must be fast to achieve critical mass that enables modifying provider behavior. This became a priority for Travis, something that has been aggressively pursued and which has driven to his organization's success. This week, we speak with Travis Turner, SVP Chief Population Health Officer and COO of Mary Washington Medicare Advantage at Mary Washington Healthcare. Mary Washington Health Alliance is a physician-led, physician governed CIN – founded in 2013, the ACO has 437 participants that cover around 60,000 lives. During the 2017 MSSP performance year, the ACO achieved $11.9 million in savings. For the first three years it participated in the CMS Bundled Payment for Care Improvement program, it achieved $12.6 million in savings. The ACO now participates in the Next Generation ACO model and is active in the BPCI Track 2 for all 48 episodes of care. Episode Bookmarks: 3:30 The inflection point in value-based care for employers, providers, and government 4:40 The value-based care journey of Mary Washington Health Alliance (MWHA) over the last 7 years 6:15 Transitioning from the upside-only MSSP to taking institutional risk in the NextGen ACO and BPCI programs 7:25 Entering downside risk by applying lessons learned from other value-based contracts 7:40 Reaching a critical mass in value to change the behavior of providers 8:00 Don Berwick's influence on MWHA's fast transition to value 10:00 “There has to be a bottom-up, top-down acceptance at every level for population health to succeed in a value-driven organization.” 10:30 Travis reflects on the slow uptake of value-based care in the national landscape and how learning environments will catalyze adoption 11:10 VBC is key to partnering with independent physicians 11:30 “Reaching critical mass in value is all about achieving the Triple Aim. That will overcome any perceived risks of demand destruction.” 12:15 The challenges of adapting to CMS changes to payment models 13:30 NEJM on care patterns in Medicare and the challenges of fragmented, uncoordinated care 14:30 “A true, clinically integrated network will be able to drive enterprise-level change with data.” 15:30 The challenges in siloed initiatives like Oncology Care Model and ESRD Treatment Choices Model in driving system change 16:00 Democratization of data with FHIR-based technologies and how that will improve population health analytics 16:45 Success in clinical integration means treating all patients the same (even those that are not attributed to value-based contracts) 19:15 Taking advantage of clinical integration by entering into single-signature commercial agreements 19:45 Stark and Anti-Kickback concerns associated with clinically integrated networks 20:15 The win-win-win advantages of employer and health system partnerships 20:45 Single negotiated rate advantages with clinical integration 22:25 How FFS can co-exist with VBC in reaching critical mass in value

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is much more than a movement disorder. It can have wide ranging effects throughout the body. In terms of the brain, people with PD may experience changes in cognition, mood, emotion, perception, attention, sleep, memory, motivation, and the senses, as well as drug-induced behavioral changes. One of the key professionals on a comprehensive PD treatment team is the neuropsychologist, a person with training and expertise in asking questions and administering screening and assessment tests to evaluate a person’s mental abilities and psychological state. Deficits in one or more of these areas can make it difficult to control motor symptoms such as tremor and balance. Depending on the results of the evaluations, the neuropsychologist can work with other team members to implement therapies and teach strategies to improve the life of the person with PD. Also, it may be useful to have a neuropsychological evaluation early in the course of the disease to establish a baseline so that a neurologist can later determine if changes, especially in cognition, are related to medications, to progression of the PD itself, or to other factors such as depression. In this episode, Dr. Travis Turner, Director of the Division of Neuropsychology and chief liaison to the Movement Disorders Program at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence, discusses the role of the neuropsychologist, the process of neuropsychological evaluation, and some of the kinds of problems he deals with.

In the early 2000s, and in the wake of Living Sacrifice breaking up, a number of emerging Christian metal bands competed to take the same mantle. Travis Turner has personally and professionally moved millions of dollars into his community and raised awareness to the scourge of domestic violence around the country. His is a very personal reason. After having a gun held to his head and watching his father batter his mother, who then turned to alcohol and methamphetamine, Travis decided to become a voice for those who are unseen or hide behind dark sunglasses and fear. Travis is the Vice President of Administration for a FinTech organization and oversees their overall community and philanthropic initiatives. Travis just wrapped his term as President of Trustees for The Shade Tree Shelter and serves Noah’s Animal House, Executive Pride, The Mark E. Curry Family Foundation, The Smith Center, FanFare! And Club Curry. Additionally, Travis is a licensed and certified life coach through The Arbinger Institute. He has been recognized as one of Las Vegas’ most Intriguing People, person of the year for The Shade Tree and has been featured in many different articles recognizing his work and commitment to philanthropy. We talk about the life of an Adult Child of an Alcoholic (ACOA) and how those relationships either spur you to a life of intention or create cycles that have to be broken, and some really tough love advice he received from Sirius XM’s Dr. Laura. This is a heavy conversation, but so necessary for those with family members who experience addiction. I hope that this episode gave you a little insight into the mind of an ACOA and their perpetual heartbreak, whether it is you or someone you love. If it is you - I see you. I hope you find some comfort in the advice offered to learn how to take care of yourself, create boundaries and drop expectations. Wrap yourself up in the love, life and family you create.

Chapter 136: "Hand it down and walk away" ...as read by Trav Hey gang. It is with both pleasure and sorrow that I am being interviewed on my own show. My very good friend Jeremy Hunt asked if he could flip the script and interview me. His timing couldn't have been more perfect. This will be my last podcast for ATSG and I'm going to be passing this torch over to Bryan Patton. I may pop in now and again (like when you go back and visit your friends at your old job) but moving forward the show is in the very able hands of Bryan. It's time. Thank you Jeremy for this interview. Thank you Bryan for the countless hours of help over the past two years. Thank you Stephen for helping me get this off the ground. Thank you to each patron who was generous enough to flip me a few bucks over the years. THANK YOU to every guest who's ever been on and every person who's ever listened. I love you. Take care. You can’t talk about Aletheian without talking about Crutch. And you can’t have a Discography Discussion about Crutch without listening to Dan go on, and on, and on. But hey, that’s what we do! We listen to a band’s entire discography, and tell you what we think. Aletheian is a band you have to stop and listen to if you consider yourself a fan of progressive death metal. Are they a guitar player’s band? Absolutely. Welcome to another themed episode drawing upon the advice and counsel of various guests on a single topic. This week's topic: Acting careers – stage and screen. Four multi-talented and experienced performers share with Marvin and Fred their own career stories and tips for navigating the tumultuous rapids of an acting career. Amy Shostak is a talented theatre artist whose improv skills in performance and directing have taken her to festivals and live special events all around the world. She also performs in the television series Tiny Plastic Men and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s radio series The Irrelevant Show. Amy describes why many professionals could benefit from improv workshops to learn about and sharpen their own abilities in collaborative work situations. Brothers Dann and Dave Florek join Marvin and Fred in Los Angeles to discuss the similarities and differences in technique required for performing on stage and on screen. Valuable tips emerge! Check their track records on imdb.com. The Florek Brothers’ lists of engagements in film and television alone read like the history of screen media over the last 40 years! Not many performers celebrate 25 years in the business at the ripe old age of 31! Vancouver-based actor and musician Travis Turner describes his formal training at the Langara College Film Arts program and his decision to form a company to benefit more from the “business” side of show business. Guitarist Markus Johansson has had an interesting musical journey. This guy is just a guy. A guy who has forged his own way with an album with so many metal allumni that it looks like it was set up by everyone in the music business. Nope. Just Markus. This is a PERFECT example of musical "DIY". Truly inspirational. His band Sylencer released an album in 2012 with around twenty musicians involved...and if you're into metal you've probably heard of most of them. From the wikiweb: "For A Lethal Dose of Truth, Sylencer's album, Johansson produced and called on some of hard rock and metal's most gifted musicians to lend their chops to the recordings. The featured guest list on A Lethal Dose of Truth includes Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Rob Caggiano (Anthrax, Volbeat), Brendon Small (Dethklok), Andy LaRocque (King Diamond), and Gene Hoglan (Testament), with nearly a dozen other current and former members of Iced Earth, Jag Panzer, Cynic, Helloween, Halford, Chimaira, Death, contributing as well." Then...his new band 4arm. Sheesh. Seriously? Based out of Australia, Markus picked up a leg as the lead guitarist. Then 4arm opened for Slayer and Gojira for a while. Sometimes, it's good to know Stephen Sarro. He got to be friendly with Andrew Elstner of Torche via the inter-webs and said he would try to get him on the show...and it worked! Andrew was nice enough to tell us his whole story. We've got hilarious stories about James Hetfield and his cell phone...how he had to get a baby at a restaurant involved in joining Torche...fighting evil robots to save Miami and why overseas venues always seem to have gummy candy. Andrew got his copies of "Restarter" about five minutes before he started talking to us, so he is checking them out for the first time while on with us. Torche's new album "Restarter" out on Relapse Records on Feb 24th. Go. Buy. Rock. Seriously..."Barrier Hammer" is one of the heaviest tunes they've ever done. Music by Van Halen, Riddle Of Steel, Tilts, Torche, Torche again because they rule, Helms Alee and INXS. We were honored to be joined by Nate Allen this episode. Unique doesn't begin to describe his approach to music. His kickstarter campaign for "Nate Allen and the Pac-Away Dots" includes a video game, laser-etched mason jars, greeting cards....you gotta hear this. His music is inspired by not listening to much music, just an occasional cassette in the van. It is inspiring to hear that influences can come from silence and your own thoughts and not mimicry. His shows have no PA system and the crowds gather around he and his wife Tessa in a sort of circle gathering rather than a stage for a unique acoustic folk-punk experiance. He tells us all about it and hopefully inspires you to think a little outside the box. He recalls a cool Melvins / Big Business story. We talk a lil' Kansas City sports. He was a booking agent for Emery and As I Lay Dying. This one was fun. Music by The Melvins, Celan and Nate Allen Nate's website: http://iamnateallen.com His wife Tessa does taxes professionally and understands how an artist may have tax challenges. If you have any questions she may be a great person to contact. Tessa's Tax website: http://tessatax.com
It's not often that you get to talk to someone that you listened to growing up. Mark Salomon of The Crucified hung our with us and picked up where his three part interview with Billy Power left off. (GO LISTEN TO BILLY'S URBAN ACHIEVER PODCAST. Go ahead. We'll wait.) Mark talks a lot about his newest project White Lighter, touches a little bit on the current state of Stavesacre and will blow your mind on how deep he goes with Bill Murray. He even does impressions... Jesse and Trav had to do one without the powers of the Seth, but we at BVCHQ couldn't be happier with how this one turned out. Matt has what could be considered an indie drummer's "dream resume." This guy has played with everybody; just check his wiki page. We went a little long but that's because Matt has so much ground to cover. With stories like his unorthodox way of joining Living Sacrifice, breaking up overseas with Eso-Charis and leaving for Ohio to do a short stint with Lovedrug and staying for two years, we're sure you won't mind a little overtime. Here are a ton of show notes: Matt did quite a bit of work for us for this show. He is a great guy and we recommend checking out all of his musical endeavors...and there are quite a few. We'll get you started: Ok so is Matt's wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Putman_(musician) Here is a link to a dropbox folder of all of the music that Matt sent us to hear: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/3m78poooml3n1f6/AAALstiHtgJK7Txv5n-5TreMa?dl=0 Here is the list of music in the dropbox folder Matt sent us, plus a small bio of each song: Benchmark - The Reality of Distance I'm pretty sure that Benchmark were the first Fort Smith band that released a 7", but I might be wrong. There are 3 songs and they all rip. This is what we called "Emo" before bands like SDRE (whom I love) and Promise Ring took over the genre and definition. This 7" was a huge influence on Eso-Charis. Rash Of Beatings - Pig Raped Citizen This is probably the 2nd 7" released by a Fort Smith band, and it was revolutionary. Punk Grindcore, fast and violent. These guys were legends around here, and still friends to this day. This song is a personal favorite. It was recorded LIVE with Barry Poynter, no overdubs. Each song is one take and the whole thing just melts. Barry did a ton of records with T&N/SS. He said these guys had BO, which is awesome. Burned Up Bled Dry - Count On Yourself BUBD was basically Benchmark with the bass player switching to guitar (because he's a riff-master). Awesome Grindcore with a punk feel. They also recorded this entire 7" (Cloned Slaves For Slaves) LIVE with Barry Poynter. Eso-Charis played lots of shows with BUBD back in the day. Eso-Charis - The Absolute Progress of a Nothing Day This song is from our only 7", titled "Setting Roots For Winter", released on Deadself Recordings (Jarrod Norris). It had the last 2 songs we ever wrote, recorded after we broke up. It's a SUPER crusty recording, but that's how we wanted it. We took our budget and worked with our friend Matt Depper to buy equipment so we could record it ourselves. We had no idea what we were doing, but we took our time in the studio and added lots of other sounds. It's lo-fi, but I'm really proud of it. I've seen this 7" go for $50 and higher on Ebay. Current bands I am involved with Bear Colony - Flask Retort This song is from my band Bear Colony. It was released on our sophomore album "Soft Eyes" in late 2012 on Esperanza Plantation, an awesome record label out of Jackson, MS. This album marked my first time producing, composing, and performing. It was a blast. I created the main section for this song using acapella vocal samples from the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" sessions. Family History - Howlin' This is my band with Chase Pagan, whom I've recorded and played with for a decade. Chase decided he wanted more of a band feel for his next album, so he wrote some amazing songs and enlisted awesome players to join us. We tracked the bulk of it with my brother Adam (Insomniac Studios) and added percussion and vocals in my garage. I love this album and hope it see's the light of day eventually. Prom Nights - Pissswap This is my band with an old friend, Evan Garner. He played in Benchmark and Burned Up Bled Dry. He is the riff-master that I mentioned previously. This is just the two of us fucking around in my garage. The best description would be instru-metal with a mathy bent. I recorded these tracks in my garage (turd) and my brother Adam (Insomniac Studios) did an awesome mix/master job on them (polished turd). It's a fun project with a good friend. Fear Is The Driving Force - Diet Cocaine Habit This is a band with my brother Cory, who plays in Norma Jean and started Eso-Charis with me. We grew up playing Slayer and Alice-in-Chains riffs together in our parents basement, so the chemistry is great. He is also a riff master and writes songs that blow my mind. We are working on our full length album, and it's close. This is just a demo that we did to raise funds for the full length.
Everyone knows about crowd sourcing, but we're betting not many people actually understand how it works. Alex Kenis, brainchild of metal outfit Solamors (including our own dearest Trav) ran a very successful campaign raising over $6,000 for an album. Wanna hear how it went? Music by Cynic, Apartment 3G, Goes Cube and Solamors own "Becoming What You Are"
Jesse runs a record company called Veritas Vinyl. Like, he actually has vinyl made....quite a process. He gets a lot of questions. Most of them valid. Some of them stupid. So why don't you join us and listen to a little bit of what the process is all about? Music from Theory Of Ruin, Strongarm, The Skull and He Whose Ox Is Gored
Stephen Sarro of Unteachers joins the BVC to talk about the recording process, being a new dad and how much he loves Crux. Music by Crux, Unteachers, Meshuggah and Fluffy.
Laddys and Germs, please welcome Seth W of Skull Toaster to the show! We all talk about our musical highlights on 2014 and give a little nod to the late Joe Cocker. Happy New Year! Music by Mortals, Wild Throne, Umphreys McGee, Witch Mountain and Joe Cocker
The boys discuss selling out, Christmas shopping and something pretty gross ALMOST happens to Trav. Music by Black Cat Attack, Cross Movement, Stryper, Slaves BC, Daughters and Lou Monte. This episode is PROUDLY brought to you with the help of SkullToaster.com, daily metal trivia for the masses
Oh boy. Special (and first ever) guest Seth Werkheiser of Skulltoaster.com sit down with Jesse and Trav to discuss the music they are all secretly embarrassed about, yet still love. Music from Limp Bizcut, Avenged Sevenfold and Winger! (I know, right?) Plus music we're ACTUALLY listening to: Down, Benny Greb's "Moving Parts" and Cat Head Deathray.
Travis Turner of Unteachers talks to Jesse about recording the new album "A Human Comedy" and have some insight on the music and records they've been into lately. Music by Neurosis, Patsy Cline, Baptists, Secret Cutter and Unteachers.
