It's 106 miles to Chicago, they've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and they're wearing sunglasses....The brothers are Joliet Jake Blue (John Belushi) and Elmwood Blues (Dan Ackroyd)....and they're on a mission from God.  Well actually they're on a mission to save the Catholic home where they grew up and to get the band back together.  Seems simple enough but there are a LOT of obstacles in their way including US Marshalls, Chicago police, Illinois State Troopers, the Illinois Nazis, the Good Ol' Boys, and...the late, great Carrie Fisher playing "Mystery Woman" who comes HEAVILY armed! :o John Landis (Animal House, Coming to America, An American Werewolf in London) directed this wildly ambitious action comedy musical loosely adapted from the two titular fictional brothers who performed on Saturday Night Live around this time.  Plot is but an afterthought when you have wall-to-wall car chases and/or extended musical numbers from several R&B music luminaries including Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, and Chaka Khan.  And that's not even accounting for an extended stacked cast including Kathleen Freeman, John Candy, Steven Williams, Henry Gibson, Charles Napier, and countless others!Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

[Ep 24-514] Welcome to the New Year of Old. 2025 is here, and Leftists face a new era of reality checks under Trump's second term. From navigating the collapse of pronoun policing to rediscovering patriotism, it's time to adjust. Inflation isn't imaginary, cancel culture is out, and echo chambers only deepen the misery. Heroes aren't born—they persevere, confronting challenges head-on. As crime surges in progressive cities and old policies unravel, self-reliance and humor are essential. Leftists, embrace the irony of voting for Biden and Harris—then laugh. Growth comes from letting go of illusions. Rediscover community, individuality, and resilience. Therapy is costly; these truths are free.[SEGMENT 2-1] Welcome to the New Year of Old 1   [X] SB – Nyer pleads for Hochul to resign   Swedish politician who fought for open borders was beheaded in Congo. That country just abandoned Agenda 2030 and may just survive.   For all of you people who have Apple gear, know that they were the first company to BAN conservative podcasters on their platforms. They removed Parler over J6 accusations. They literally bankrupted that company…  [SEGMENT 2-2] Welcome to the New Year of Old 2 I want us all to be happy and HEALTHY this year. I want to say a couple of things about my sponsors… Native Path: GetKrill.com/KevinJackson Native Path Live Read: 8X more potent than fish oil, and a supplement that can fix your heart, memory and joints within days…   BiOptimizers: bioptimizers.com/kjradio Promo code: KJRADIO  BiOptimizers Live Read: Almost every function your body needs involves magnesium. The RIGHT magnesium is important. And as we age, this little element becomes much more important. For sleep, stress, our immune systems, healthy heart, and much more….   Let's level-set about the new year. Nothing will change about the Left. The only thing that will happen is what we can change. How we adjust to them. For the past few decades, we've allowed them to change our environment. We have 4 years to undo their damage. We slowed it down from 2016 to 2020. But clearly we didn't stop it. They used their last 4 years of lies and deception to do more damage to America and the world than has been done in a decade. Thankfully, we never stopped. Perseverance. The secret of all triumphs. It distinguishes the strong from the weak. Perseverance makes difficulties and obstacles vanish. It can even overcome Nature. Hollywood created the fiction that people start off as heroes. Nobody starts as a hero. A hero doesn't even know he or she will ever be a hero. They simply strive for more. They ready themselves, and when the moment arrives, they act. Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other. Look at all we defeated, albeit temporary. It's a long list, and not of small things. Leftism tops the list. The idea of Leftists wanting to swap out an old, demented clown for a young black female clown. As if we wouldn't notice that is was just a clown-for-clown swap. We defeated Fauci the fraud. Fauci lost his SS security details. $15M per month was the cost to taxpayers. There were 6 US Marshalls in SUVs parked outside his home at any given time. He will now have to use some of that Pfizer money to protect himself. I suggest he do two things: wear a mask and quarantine.    [SEGMENT 2-3] Welcome to the New Year of Old 3 - Our limits to protect 13 mass shooters were on the FBI watch list. NONE of them were stopped. Here are just a few things that happened over Christmas… [X] SB – Christmas robbery attempt You can bet that Leftists will spin this as teenagers shot in Houston while shopping. The thing about a gun is you'd better be prepared to use it, because Texans trained in hand gun use know that you only pull it when you're going to use it. Three Black teen boys found this out the hard way. Consider that these 3 had the drop on a guy they planned to rob, and they all got shot. The proposed victim was either ex-police, ex-military, or Jason Bourne.   [X] SB – Shooting at the Phoenix airport The good news about this shootout is that it was family. https://dailycaller.com/2024/12/26/report-family-dispute-arizona-police-phoenix-sky-harbor-airport-stabbing-shooting/ “I believe this was a family dispute that escalated,” Reeson said, adding that the police have reason to believe that all five people involved in the violent quarrel knew each other. All four victims were hospitalized and one is in critical condition, police said. Because nothing says I love you like a stabbing or a shooting. But there was more bad news for the criminal element, as felony theft charges soared by 154% in Chicago after the departure of Soros DA Kim Fox. Threshold went from $1000 to $300. Where will criminals do their Christmas “shopping”, if they can't loot from regular stores.   What are you willing to do for your family? This story prompted me to ask this question of my audience. Because I know that the majority of people don't know their limits. This is John Eisenman. He lost his daughter to sexual trafficking. She was sold for $1,000 in Seattle Washington. He did what a father should do and researched, investigated and found out about her abduction. He RESCUED her HIMSELF. He found out the person who sold her into trafficking was her 19 year old boyfriend. He met up with him, abductd him, bludgeond and stabbed him to death in Nov, 2020. The authorities found him [dead AF boyfriend] in Oct 2021 in the trunk of the car he abandoned. John Eisenman sits in jail knowing his daughter is safe and growing up after he has already lived 60 years of his life, always Do your absolute best to make sure your children are safe. Do you think He deserves a medal I watch this show called Alone. People are literally alone in the wilderness and try to survive as long as possible to win $500K. There are no vegans on alone. There is no one not willing to kill a bear to survive. Show me a pacifist and I will show you a person who hasn't been put in a situation to kill another person. There is no such thing. There are people who act or react too slow and get killed. But put in a situation where you can kill the person who is going to kill you, I don't know anybody who won't kill the other person. Does that make us bad humans? No. It makes us humans.    [SEGMENT 2-4] Welcome to the New Year of Old 4 - Trump Second Term Survival Tips for Leftists     Leftist Life Hacks for 2025 It's 2025, and America continues to remind the world why it's still the land of the free and the home of MAGA Christmas sweaters. For Leftists, however, this year might feel like a prolonged stress test. Between clashing with reality and attempting to police everyone's pronouns, the struggle is real. So, in the spirit of goodwill, I'm offering a few “helpful” tips to help you survive the next four years of Trump's second term with your mental health sort of intact.Tip 1: Trump Won, Again. Deal With That Too. Your MAGA relatives will definitely be discussing Trump's latest massive victory—all year long. And let's face it: you deserve it. You tried calling an audible, but your quarterback fumbled the ball before halftime. Penalty. Dump the “felon” talk and stop holding out hope that maybe ONE of those charges will stick. None will, so just stop. Example: Remember when Leftist hopes were pinned on Trump's tax returns exposing a massive scandal? Yeah, that aged about as well as a glass of milk left out overnight.Tip 2: Pronoun Anxiety Is Self-Inflicted. Your pronouns are back to the gender of your birth. No more “ze,” “zir,” or whatever Scrabble hand you were playing with. Within 90 days of Trump's inauguration, you'll be the only one using your pronouns—and not even you really believe them anymore. Look at what happened to the college professor who lost his job for refusing to use neo-pronouns. Ultimately, he got his job back, and the school quietly dropped the case. That should tell you where the wind is blowing.Tip 3: Life Is Not Montessori. Here's a shocker: We don't all have to get along. In the words of John McClane from Die Hard, “Welcome to the party, pal!” Life is messy, people disagree, and sometimes the turkey is dry. Evergreen State College's attempt to create a utopia of mutual respect failed spectacularly.  The college tried mandating “safe spaces” for every opinion. Turns out, the logistics of separating people based on micro-aggressions looked like a spaghetti map. In the end, students turned on each other.   Tip 4: Inflation Is Real, and It's Your Fault. Good news! You'll rediscover capitalism this year. You'll also discover how “free” student loans weren't actually free, and why those who were to foot your bill cut the head off the snake: Joe Biden. Remember when Biden's student loan forgiveness plan got overturned? Yeah, that wasn't Monopoly money they were playing with.  Tip 5: Grow a Spine. New year, new you—right? Well, it's time to grow a spine. Your feelings aren't everyone else's problem. Nobody's coming to bubble-wrap your feelings. If someone triggers you by existing, that's a “you “problem. Think of all the companies that went broke trying to apologize for imaginary sins (cough Bud Light cough). Did it work? Nope. Did it cost billions? Oh yeah.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.

Cut to the ChaseI'm not sure why my mind defaults to cutting to the chase. Maybe it's my programming as a management consultant, where I've heard more excuses for failure than a politician at a budget hearing. Here's an example of cutting to the chase: the LGBTQIA+ community has nothing on conservative men—we, too, were all once trapped in a female's body. Let's scratch that argument off the grievance list. Of course, it's a tongue-in-cheek joke meant to highlight a bigger point: we all have our issues. But issues don't matter as much as how we deal with them. In life, you get three choices: succeed, fail, or settle. Let's break that down.Success: The Rarely Complained-About ProblemSuccess is the toughest road, yet oddly enough, nobody complains about having it—except Leftists. If a Leftist won the lottery, they'd demand reparations for the 49 other states they didn't live in. Speaking of the lottery, a guy just hit the $1.5 billion Powerball and took home $628 million. Guess who really hit the jackpot? The government, of course. They're not playing the lottery—they're winning it. The lottery is a perfect metaphor for government: the people put in all the money, and Uncle Sam shows up like the cousin you didn't know you had, grabbing the biggest slice of the pie. Elon Musk could probably run the lottery for 10% of the take and still send you a Tesla as a thank-you card.   https://www.lotteryusa.com/opinion/surprising-economics-behind-states-lottery-money The revenue for the 45 states that participate in government-operated lotteries has grown by over 80 percent since 2010. (…) From that humble rebirth, however, state lotteries have snowballed into a massive government business. In 2022, the total revenue from the 45 states that participate in government-operated lotteries, plus the District of Columbia, clocked in at nearly $108 billion (a rather staggering 83 percent increase from 2010 figures). States with the highest total lottery revenue include New York, Florida, Texas, and California, which each took in north of $8 billion that year. For at least 10 states, lottery games regularly generate more total revenue than corporate income taxes. While these swelling proceeds are indisputably impressive—especially considering the growth over the past decade or so—they look even more striking when examined on a per capita basis. Essentially the lottery is a way to tax you that gives you a one-in-a-trillion chance to get your money back. Think of it as FUN taxation. Where do you think this money really goes? To “education”? Another story for another day…[SEGMENT 1-2] Failure: The Unexpected TeacherNow, let's talk failure. It's where most of us live, and oddly enough, it's where we learn the most. My grandfather used to say, “Discipline your disappointment; it's always there—until it isn't.” Translation: embrace failure. You'll face plenty of it before you taste success. Some of my best lessons came while failing. I've failed in business, relationships, and even hobbies. You're looking at a guy who plays piano so badly that my piano probably thinks I'm trolling it. But I settled for being terrible at piano because I don't need to be Van Cliburn—I'm too busy succeeding elsewhere. Failure builds character. And if you don't embrace it, you'll never get to the next level. People stuck in failure are the ones who missed the memo: it's not a final destination—it's just a layover.Settling: The Comfortable CompromiseAnd now, settling. We all do it in some areas because we can't be great at everything. But there's a difference between settling smartly and selling out. Thoreau said, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.” That's true, but it's also a choice. Did you settle for a job you hate because it pays the bills? Or did you take the leap and find out what you're made of? Did you marry someone who makes you better, or did you settle for someone who just makes dinner? Settling isn't always bad. Sometimes it's strategic. But if you're in a rut, ask yourself: are you settling because it's easy, or because it's right? The Revolution of Not SettlingThis year, many of us made a choice not to settle. Politically, we dumped the high-maintenance “gold-digger” government. It's time to find a fiscally responsible “around-the-way girl”— who doesn't want a new butt, new boobs, and lips that look like she's a cartoon character in The Simpson's. We've had enough of a government that treats our wallets like a piggy bank for its Botox fund. We want something real, something sustainable. And the good news is: the revolution has already begun. Circling back on success. Success only comes with massive failure. Elon Musk almost went broke twice. Donald Trump lost in a sham election, only to win “bigly” in 2024. What's your big success built on failure? Remember your three choices: succeed, fail, or settle. Just make sure the choice is yours—not someone else's. Democrats have one thing they do better than anybody: they sell failure as success[SEGMENT 1-3] ICYMI Post-Christmas 2   [X] SB – Karl Rove on Trump's impact on economic outlook Biden 41% approval Karl Rove is now a Trump guy? Up 41 pts Good time to expand Expect sales to rise Plan capital outlays in the next 6 months     Failure sold as success. Democrats have one thing they do better than anybody: they sell failure as success. But all you need to do is wait for the real results to see the Leftism is the poster child for failure. https://x.com/StephenMoore/status/1871540676782903720Stephen Moore Another half-million jobs reported under Biden turn out to be phantom!   The Philly Fed's recent findings reveal that Q2 job growth was actually negative, with all reported gains set for revision in 2025. The suspect accused of setting a woman on fire in the NYC subway is Sebastian Zapeta. He is an illegal migrant from Guatemala. He sat on a bench and watched his victim burn alive. I saw the video of this woman, and it's truly horrific. And the guy who set her on fire actually fans her. Understand that the governor of NY has declared their transit system safe! A friend tweeted: I am so confused about the woman being burned alive in the subway… How did this happen? How was she still standing? Why is the assailant casually sitting on the bench watching his victim burn? And WHY DID NO ONE HELP? The movie True Grit was number one at the box office in 1969 with John Wayne in the lead role and once again when the story was adapted in 2010 with Jeff Bridges reprising the role of gritty Rooster Cogburn. Although the movie's title suited the grizzled and hard-drinking US Marshall, it wasn't really about him. Instead, it was about the young 14-year-old Mattie Ross who was determined to bring her father's murderer to justice.  Of all the qualities that make people successful, I don't think grit gets the due it deserves. It's a quality that isn't universally shared by all. Still, as rare a quality as it is, I think it can be refined by anyone who truly seeks to add it to the arsenal of values they bring to potential employers.  On this episode of the Career PROgressions Podcast, I'm honored to have the gritty entrepreneur Jamie Noe with me to have a conversation about facing your career with true grit. Since 2014 his company, Insurance Group of America, has had organic 35% growth year over year with a 97% employee retention rate. Can you imagine the grit it takes to accomplish something like that?! A jury had been set and opening argument will be presented today in the murder trial of Kaitlyn Armstrong. The yoga instructor is accused of killing professional cyclist Moriah "Mo" Wilson.  Wilson was in Austin to tackle the “Gravel Locos” race in Hico. As luck would have it, Wilson has friends in the area, so instead of booking a hotel, bunks down with her friend. The friend already has plans for the evening, but that's ok. Wilson has plans of her own. She tells her friend that she's meeting up with a guy she dated briefly, to go swimming, grab a meal, catching up.   Wilson's friend was also Kaitlyn Armstrong's boyfriend. During a brief period when Armstrong and Colin Strickland were separated, he and Wilson dated. It made Armstrong angry, to the point that she confronted Wilson, telling her not to contact Strickland.   When Mo Wilson's friend returns home from her dinner plans, she finds Wilson unresponsive inside the home. There's blood everywhere and her friend is in the bathroom, lodged between the toilet and the wall. 911 is called. Police arrived to find Wilson has been shot multiple times, with a 9mm weapon,  and it doesn't appear the shooting is random. As the Austin Police Department investigate, they reach out to neighbors,  asking for surveillance video. A neighbor's camera, pointed at the driveway of the home where Wilson was staying, caught a Black Jeep Grand Cherokee driving  past the house just one minute after Wilson went inside.  In the meantime, police reach out to Colin Strickland, who agrees to an interview at his home. When the police arrived, they see a Black Jeep Grand Cherokee in the driveway... The same one, seen in the surveillance video. It belongs to Strickland's girlfriend Kaitlyn Armstrong.   Police begin to look at Kaitlyn Armstrong as a suspect.   An anonymous caller tells  police Armstrong said she wanted to kill Wilson, and even bought a gun.  On May 12th Kaitlin Armstrong was brought in for questioning but APD wasn't able to get probable cause until May 17. When Armstrong spoke with homicide detectives, she couldn't explain why her SUV was in the area the night Mo Wilson was murdered. Police release Armstrong. When officers try to talk to Armstrong again, she is nowhere to be found.  Three days later, a video is released of Armstrong in Austin's airport.  Investigators say she flew from Austin to Houston and then on to New York.  Surveillance footage shows Kaitlin Armstrong flying into New York's La Guardia airport on May 14th, then on May 18th, the day after a murder warrant was issued for Armstrong, someone dropped her off at New Jersey's Newark airport, but there's no record of her taking a flight. US Marshalls tracked Armstrong to Costa Rica. She had used a family members passport to get there. She had died her hair and had plastic surgery to change her appearance.  After a 43 day manhunt, Kaitlyn Armstrong is taken into custody.  Joining Nancy Grace Today: Alan Bennett – Former Assistant District Attorney, Partner at Gunter, Bennett, and Anthes, gbafirm.com Dr. Bethany Marshall (Beverly Hills, CA), - Psychoanalyst www.drbethanymarshall.com/, Instagram & TikTok: drbethanymarshall, Twitter: @DrBethanyLive   Irv Brandt -  Senior Inspector, US Marshals Service International Investigations Branch, Chief Inspector, DOJ Office of International Affairs; Author: “SOLO SHOT: CURSE OF THE BLUE STONE” available on Amazon, Also "FLYING SOLO: Top of the World" Twitter: @JackSoloAuthor Joe Scott Morgan –  Professor of Forensics: Jacksonville State University, Author, "Blood Beneath My Feet", Host: "Body Bags with Joseph Scott Morgan", Twitter: @JoScottForensic   Tony Plohetski -  Investigative Reporter, Austin American-Statesman and KVUE, Twitter: @tplohetski (512) 507-0532 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
