The duo dives into the ups and downs of living an alcohol-free life, sharing personal stories, practical advice, and the awkward moments that come with sobriety. It won Best Wellbeing Podcast award at the British Podcast Awards, cementing its place as a valuable resource and support for the sober-curious community.Victoria has been a mate of Club Soda for a long time. You can read and hear her  prevous contribution to our Online Mindful Drinking Festival held in lockdown in 2020. She recently visited the Club Soda tasting Room with her co-host Hamis, and we had a chance to catch up and disucss her book – A Thousand Wasted Sundays. In this chat, Victoria shares how she transformed her life by quitting drinking, reclaiming her Sundays, and finding joy in the simple things. Her story is both inspiring and relatable, as she talks about the ups and downs of ditching alcohol and how she's building a life she loves, one sober day at a time. Here's how she did it and why it mattered so much.Breaking the Binge-Drinking Cycle: “I Knew I Needed Help”Victoria's journey started with the familiar cycle of binge drinking on weekends and the inevitable anxiety-filled Sundays. Despite trying countless ways to cut back, she found herself stuck in the same pattern.“I tried every trick in the book—water between wines, everything—but nothing ever worked.” The turning point came after the birth of her second child. She woke up with what she called the “anxiety monster” at the foot of her bed. This moment of clarity made her realise she needed a different approach.“I remember walking out and seeing my husband, and I said, ‘I think I need help. I need someone else to intervene because what I'm doing isn't working.”That realisation led her to seek therapy, and it changed everything. She learned that the root of her drinking went much deeper than she thought.“It's About Finding Out Who You Were Before Alcohol”For Victoria, quitting drinking wasn't just about giving up booze; it was about rediscovering who she truly was. Therapy helped her connect the dots between her past and her drinking habits, including childhood experiences of rejection that shaped her into a “people pleaser” and the life of the party.“I was always the mad one, the entertainer, because I wanted to keep people close. It all stems back to childhood stuff,”Read the full blog on joinclubsoda.com/hub/Find Club Soda:The Club Soda Tasting Room is at 39 Drury Lane, London, WC2B 5RRFind us on Instagram

This week I chat with Victoria Vanstone from Drunk Mummy, Sober Mummy and Sober Awkward about the importance of storytelling in our alcohol-free lives. We discuss how sharing our stories helps others feel less alone and more empowered to make changes. Episode highlights include: Storytelling is a huge part of this work. Sharing our experiences helps normalizse conversations around moderation and sobriety. Telling my story helped me process my journey and showed me how many others were desperate to hear stories outside of AA meetings or rock bottoms. Consistently sharing our stories through good and bad keeps us accountable to our sobriety and empowers us to keep choosing ourselves. Let me show you how easy it can be to go from feeling tired, bloated, overwhelmed and slugglish to jubilantly full of beans and ready to take on the world with my program of events leading up the the 30 day Great Aussie Alcohol Experiment this May.

Victoria Vanstone has lived the nightlife of a rockstar – blazing through bars across the world, waking up in random locations with hazy memories of the night before, with clubbing injuries and risky scenarios all part of her weekly experience. It was a blisteringly good time – until it wasn't. As a mum of three kids, and an author with a thriving podcast, Vic is now sober and living in Queensland, in stark contrast to her blackout days. She has had some wild adventures, that she recounts in quite hilarious fashion, in her book A Thousand Wasted Sundays. We got right to the heart of things, unpacking Vic's journey to sobriety, through her early years growing up in the UK, to her many misadventures across the world – including a traumatic firsthand account of the Boxing Day Tsunami, bearing witness to the unthinkable tragedy in the unfolding days. We got deep about the complexities of parenthood, grief, peer judgement and accountability – and so much more. Vic's story is entirely engaging, totally relatable and incredibly inspiring. Listen to this ep and then grab yourself a copy of her brilliant book A Thousand Wasted Sundays, but be warned – you won't be able to put it down! Victoria Vanstone is the creator and host of the hugely popular Sober Awkward podcast. Her new memoir A Thousand Wasted Sundays is an unashamedly warts and all look at modern day drinking culture, its impact on mental health and one mothers journey into freeing herself from the grip of socially normalised binge drinking.   Victoria grew up in 1980s England in a happy home full of laughter, booze and a disturbing amount of fancy-dress parties. From her youthful days downing cheap wine at the local park to dodging disastrous relationships and a messy run-in with a firework, her reliable mate alcohol was never far from reach.   Throughout her 20s she travelled the world, sought refuge in booze, endured a slew of one-night-stands and several holiday romances. Among these dalliances she recalls details of a Thai boyfriend she thought had died in the Tsunami, a guitarist with a soft-rock mullet, a flat capped Canadian, a sweet Japanese boy, a geezer from London and a Romanian man with ‘teeth like abandoned beach huts.'   Eventually, Victoria found herself in Australia with a husband and a child on the way. After sobering up for her first pregnancy, becoming a boring, bottom-wiping, cleaning machine meant she soon returned to her binge-drinking ways, and had to grapple anew with the habits and beliefs that had gone unchecked since childhood.  Incredibly funny and highly relatable, A Thousand Wasted Sundays is for anyone that has ever had a close encounter of the drinking kind.  Victoria says, ‘The book is about love, for myself and my family. Owning my story and being proud of who I am, no matter my errors. It's also about dispelling shame and embracing what we perceive as ‘boring'.' Cass chats with Victoria Vanstone, host of the Sober Awkward Podcast and creator of the Drunk Mummy Sober Mummy blog and website, about her decision to leave behind her partying days in order to be a happier, less anxious, more present parent by giving up alcohol. Vic admits she didn't like sober people and that she feared no-one would want to be around her anymore if she stopped being the life of every party. Vic has recently published her first book, "A Thousand Wasted Sundays" and shares how she felt she never had a choice but to drink alcohol, but after becoming a parent, she realised her social, binge drinking was taking more from her than it was giving. Vic's message is that you don't have to hit 'rock bottom' to question your relationship with alcohol. Better still, there are plenty of good times still to be had. She realises her habit was fueled by people pleasing and a lack of self-care, and she hopes her message will enable other women to see that they also have a choice when it comes to drinking. Have you just finished Dry January? Thinking about Feb Fast? Can't face either just yet? Maybe you're a ‘grey area drinker'. This term was coined in 2018 by Jolene Park, who has trained many grey area drinking coaches. Since then, a whole world of alcohol-free, sober-pride people has populated social media, talking openly about their drinking, moderating and quitting, without the stigma attached to labels like ‘alcoholic'. For mums, in particular, it's almost become a new women's lib. Similarly, ‘quit lit' has really become a popular genre of memoir in recent years. In this episode of Spirit Levels, Frank and Jenny talk to coaches Lissie Turner and Faye Lawrence, who have very different styles, as well as two women who are exploring experimentation and sobriety respectively – authors Rochelle Siemienowicz and Seana Smith. We look at how coaching works – as opposed to other methods such as rehab, AA and counselling – and how it can be improved. Host Jenny also talks about why she nearly went down the route of becoming a coach but decided she definitely wasn't the best fit for the job. LINKS Host Jenny Valentish's 2017 memoir Woman of Substances: A Journey into Addiction and Treatment was added to university course reading lists and used as educational material by treatment centres. And hey, 156 Amazon ratings give it a solid 4.4! Lissie Turner's Dissolving Patterns course and podcast, and her music industry book, Off the Record. Faye Lawrence is an alcohol, ADHD and anxiety coach. Seana Smith's Sober Journeys website. Check out her favourite quit-lit books! Rochelle Siemienowicz's memoir Fallen, about pursuing hedonism after leaving the Seventh-day Adventists. The latest quit-lit book out there is A Thousand Wasted Sundays, by Victoria Vanstone. Is the fear of feeling awkward in social situations keeping you from trying sober life?   I get it. When I was stopped drinking I felt awkward in every part of my life - going to a bar and ordering a non-alcoholic drink, turning down a glass of wine at a friend house, making small talk at a work event without my social lubricant, telling people I wasn't drinking and let's not even talk about sober sex!     When you stop drinking it can be surprising to realize just how much you've relied on alcohol to navigate uncomfortable moments, conversations and social interactions (even with people you love and have known for years)!    But you can navigate sober life without feeling awkward - it just takes a bit of practice.   Today I'm talking with Victoria Vanstone, co-host of Australia's most popular sobriety podcast, Sober Awkward.    Vic is an alcohol free living advocate and passionate about helping others stuck in a pattern of normalized social binge drinking.    For full show notes and resources mentioned in the episode, head to www.hellosomedaycoaching.com/108   Ready to drink less + live more?   Take my FREE MASTERCLASS on Five Secrets To Taking a Break From Drinking Sign up here to save your seat: https://hellosomedaycoaching.com/class    If you're ready to change your relationship with alcohol join The Sobriety Starter Kit.  It's my signature sober coaching course for busy women to help you drink less + live more.  To enroll go to www.sobrietystarterkit.com.   Grab the Free 30-Day Guide To Quitting Drinking, 30 Tips For Your First Month Alcohol-Free   Connect with Casey McGuire Davidson Find out more about Casey and her coaching programs, head over to her website, www.hellosomedaycoaching.com

Let's talk about drinking! For those who've known me for a while, you know that I've always been real and raw about my relationship with alcohol in the past. And the years of work to heal myself so that I could mend that relationship, reconnect with my mind, body, and soul to transform my life in the most long-lasting and epic way. But today, it's not MY story that I wanted to share with you! Today, I had the pleasure of chatting with @Victoria Vanstone, an amazing woman who shared all about her personal addiction to alcohol, the deeper meaning of that addiction, and all the work she did to become sober. We went deep into understanding ourselves, women, and how alcohol is often used as a relief or defense mechanism against emotions or beliefs that we do not want to feel at that very moment. Victoria is a British-born mum that lives on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and has been writing about her sobriety for three years. She is the host of the popular podcast Sober Awkward and is currently working on her first book about breaking free from being a hungover parent. If this resonates with you, I guarantee that this is a conversation you will not want to skip! We have a truly remarkable story to share with you about a woman, who's life throughout her adolescence and for most of her adult life, had two constants - chaos and alcohol. Like so many of us who have battled King Alcohol or the Dictator that is Addiction the all too familiar company of trauma and mental health issues make their appearances in this truly extraordinary story of how this remarkable woman who's relationship with alcohol never seems to be a problem. In fact, in so many ways Alcohol becomes so tightly integrated into her identity it becomes nearly impossible to separate herself from the alcohol fueled escapades that only serve to add to the wild and enigmatic persona that is always the life of the party and surely the last one to call it a night. A story, told through the eyes of mother, writer, and soon to be published Author, and indeed the one person who had the best view of it all, Victoria Vanstone herself. Victoria's story is chalked full of relatable experiences, wisdom, and sobriety truth – and of equal value are the two key messages that rise to the top and are as striking as they are instructive. Minimizing real pain from trauma does not make it disappear. Trauma of any kind, no matter how insignificant it may seem as compared to another, affects each of us differently and the emotional toll it exacts it quite real and must be dealt with in order for any meaningful recovery to take place. Victoria also underscores an important fact – alcoholism and addiction is very spectrum and we need not meet a litmus test to reckon with our own relationship with alcohol or substances. Read: we don't have to be penniless and destitute to fully concede to our innermost selves that in fact alcohol is no longer serving us; an instead is very much harming us and indeed is preventing us from living the life we are truly capable of living so Listen Up.
