Hello :) This is the recording of the eighth edition of my semi-regular Twitter Space sessions. Today's episode was all about hiking, but specifically the Hike Across Great Britain I did with my hiking buddy Becky, in the summer of 2019. We're chattering about why I chose to do a hike of such length, how we planned it, the high and low points of the journey, and ponder on how people willingly do ultramarathons. Usual disclaimer, be aware this conversation took place over the phone and is then recorded directly from playback on Twitter. I notice there's a few biffs and bangs in the first few minutes but they settle down. Also a shout out to Somebody, and You Know Who You Are (because there are very few people who do call me, and one of them I was already on Twitter Spaces with), who tried calling me at the very end of the recording. When this happens it causes my audio quality to drop considerably for reasons known only to Android. Topics discussed include: * Catchphrases * Whatever happened to the Word Cloud Creation site 'Wordle' * Overview of what my hike was * How it took 57 days and why that was fewer than we'd planned * Places where we camped en route * Why I didn't do the hike alone, and how our styles fitted together * The Singing Sands beach in Scotland * Things That Went Wrong when I prepared for the Hike * Taking footpaths not roads, and sometimes getting stuck * Comparisons with hiking in Vanuatu * British Summer Weather, and all that entails * What we were carrying in our backpacks * We've been hiking 9 miles, time for lunch and recharging * Food, and why I lost weight on the hike despite the calories * Why I only hiked barefoot for a quarter of the journey * Things That Went Wrong (including injuries, broken windows, and getting lost) * Saddleworth Moor is very bleak and remote * Mental Health and how we motivated ourselves to keep going * The best days of the hike (North Pennines and the end of the Pennine Way) * Why I wouldn't have done anything much differently * How it felt to complete the Hike, and what we did afterwards * Why we did the Hike and what other challenges would I do * Why pubs are useful places * Ultramarathons * Raising money for charity * The next Spaces will be Hometown Travel I was interviewed by the lovely Victoria, but you can call her V. A PDF transcript of this episode will be available soon. As always, if you have anything to say about the topic, or indeed about my podcasting in general, leave a comment or let me know. You can also sign up to my newsletter and find out about future podcasts and recent blog posts. I also have a Patreon - if you like what you hear, and want to access exclusive content (or just to show your appreciation), then head on over. Until next time, bye for now. :)

Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!!                                                  Went into an HMV at Bloor & Yonge in Downtown Toronto a while ago for some mixed house cd listening. I needed a house music fix badly. Stayed for hours listening to at least 40 "electronica" cds. They hated me there because the staff have to reseal the ones that you don't buy. CDs are expensive, you have to love what you spend your hard earned dollars on. Bought these five for about $130 w/ taxes:"In The House: Little Louie Vega" mixed by Little Louie Vega. I lent this double mixed cd to a good friend (another DJ) a few weeks after buying it, and haven't seen it since. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I hope you feel guilty. It's fine, we'll still be friends, just give it back please…"Asa Breed" by Matthew Dear. Great techy tracks."Release Yourself" mixed by Roger Sanchez. The “S” Man, NUFF SAID!"Bring Enough To Spill Some” mixed by Chuck Love. WOW! This guy's music is CRAZY!“F*** Me I'm Famous!” mixed David Guetta Not bad, like some tracks.Listened to these for about a week, then marked all the tracks that I loved, the levels, when the vocals started, and made these two mixes. Took a few takes. I never put this much preparation into a mix, because usually just like to have fun and if it sucks, then toss it. Usually one out of 10, I keep. Hey... baseball players are making millions at 3 out of 10. One out of 10 isn't too bad, I guess. Also, because the tracks were from these authorized mixed cds that have been mastered professionally w/ top dollar, these two mixes by default sound amazing.---------------Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes. Just Google 'dattrax' and you'll find all places online that we've been a part of. Please share with other like-minded individuals.---------------There's a PayPal donate button on the right if you're on our main Podomatic site if you want to buy us a beer to say cheers ; )Our PayPal donation email if you are listening to our mixes on another platform. Any amount of support is welcomed. We appreciate you! dattrax@gmail.com---------------As always - massive thanks to the amazing vocalists, producers, DJs and dancers (even in your homes or while walking about) for their incredible advancement of this beautiful musical genre!! Makes us all feel young, vibrant and extremely happy!! ---------------Our main mix site: https://dattrax.podomatic.com/ or at: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/dattrax or Google "dattrax" and find the Podomatic link.THIS IS THE BEST OPTION: You can download the free "Podomatic" app, sign up with your email, then search 'dattrax' and subscribe to 'house music by dattrax'. It has a cute pic of my youngest boy when he was little and over my DJ mixer. He was named one of ten Canadian writers to watch by CBC. His latest book is a novel called “Reproduction,” a love story about the way families are formed. That novel, which explores unconventional connections and brilliantly redefines family made him the second writer with Trinidadian roots to win the coveted Giller Prize, the biggest prize in Canadian Literature. Then, Sir Ben Kingsley stops by. He burst onto screens in 1982 playing the title role in "Gandhi," a part that won him an Oscar for Best Actor and a shelf full of other awards… other memorable roles followed in "Schindler's List," "Bugsy," "Sexy Beast" and dozens upon dozens of other great films. He was made a Knight by Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2002 and it is there that we began our conversation. Finally, an in-depth interview with Arlene Dickinson, Canadian businesswoman, investor, television personality and author of, “Reinvention: Changing Your Life, Your Career, Your Future.” She is a dragon investor on CBC television’s Dragons' Den, she owns one of Canada's largest independent marketing and communications firms and is someone who has shaped and reshaped her life. I chatted with him about how he got started in theater and comedy, and how he evolved into a funny-yet-incisive political commentator and broadcaster after a childhood suffused with religion and liberal thought. It's not often that we have Filey's favourite son on the show, and this week was no exception as Leo Blair (Tony Blairs' Dad) was unable to attend for some reason. So we had to settle for second best and allowed The Official Spokesperson for Videogames, Guy Cocker on as a Special Guest. Unfortunately we failed to kill Guy with kindness but did manage to maim him slightly with politeness. Guy also offered us dating advice while we told him about a further subject that he could specialise in at the BBC. We just like to offer support to those people starting in the business who obviously have lots to learn.Simon also offered us support by giving Ann and Ste advice on how to stream over the internet, whilst withdrawing support from certain people who send us letters every week and also getting rather annoyed at listeners who dob us in to indie developers. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. We also learnt how much Jon Snow knows about videogames.Doctor Avatar got some fan mail to go alongside the feature that he sent in, but it probably wasn't from the doyouinverts as the two factions had some 'beef' last week. It did result in a new song by the doyouinverts so it was worth it in the end. Sega Badawi reported on the latest videogame local news, but that's a given these days. We're also going to do a benefit for Resonance FM some time in April so keep an eye out on our Twitter feed for confirmation of dates and how you can get to attend. dattrax: Went into an HMV at Bloor & Yonge in Downtown Toronto a while ago for some mixed house cd listening. I needed a house music fix badly. Stayed for hours listening to at least 40 "electronica" cds. They hated me there because the staff have to reseal the ones that you don’t buy. CDs are expensive, you have to love what you spend your hard earned dollars on. Bought these five for about $130 w/ taxes: "In The House: Little Louie Vega" mixed by Little Louie Vega. I lent this double mixed cd to a good friend (another DJ) a few weeks after buying it, and haven’t seen it since. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I hope you feel guilty. It’s fine, we’ll still be friends, just give it back please… "Asa Breed" by Matthew Dear. Great techy tracks. "Release Yourself" mixed by Roger Sanchez. The “S” Man, NUFF SAID! "Bring Enough To Spill Some” mixed by Chuck Love. WOW! This guy’s music is CRAZY! “F*** Me I’m Famous!” mixed David Guetta Not bad, like some tracks. Listened to these for about a week, then marked all the tracks that I loved, the levels, when the vocals started, and made these two mixes. Took a few takes. I never put this much preparation into a mix, because usually just like to have fun and if it sucks, then toss it. Usually one out of 10, I keep. Hey... baseball players are making millions at 3 out of 10. One out of 10 isn't too bad, I guess. Also, because the tracks were from these authorized mixed cds that have been mastered professionally w/ top dollar, these two mixes by default sound amazing. BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then why don't you buy us a beer? There's a PayPal DONATE button on the top right side of this website. For Toronto or Global bookings: dattrax@gmail.com This was an all CD house mix.
