PEARL, Miss. (WLBT) - Over a dozen residents raised their concerns at a city of Pearl community meeting Friday night regarding the police department hiring former Richland Police Officer Jeremy Rast, who was fired last year for making “derogatory slurs” toward a Hispanic man. Residents questioned whether he had learned from his mistakes and if residents could trust him in the line of duty. The pushback stems from an incident last year on June 2 when Rast and other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance involving a gun. Rast then had an interaction with Luis Rodriguez and others, which Rodriguez recorded. That is when Rast made comments toward Rodriguez, like, “I will look for you every shift to try and arrest you,” and even “Go back to Mexico.” These are the comments that residents brought up, questioning if they have to fear for themselves rather than trust those sworn to protect. Chief McLendon answered those questions and concerns Friday night, standing by his decision to hire Rast after careful consideration. Chief McLendon also stated that Rast will go through more training before he returns to the line of duty. The meeting then concluded with residents asking for another meeting to be set that would involve Rast so they could ask questions and raise their concerns directly with him.

While recording the Celebrating Seattle series with Jeannette Ceja, in collaboration with Visit Seattle, we had the privilege of meeting inspiring business owners within Seattle's Hispanic-Latino communities. We listened to their stories, explored the evolution of these vibrant communities in Seattle, and discovered what makes the city so special to them. In part 1 and part 2 of the series, we featured insightful conversations with Ana Castro from Salvadorean Bakery, Luis Rodriguez from Station Coffee Shop, and Jaime Mendez from Los Agaves. As a special addition, we recorded part of these interviews in Spanish to honor the wonderful locals we met. This episode, hosted by Jeannette Ceja, is recorded entirely in Spanish as a tribute to the thriving Spanish-speaking and Latino communities in the Emerald City, with Visit Seattle's support. A huge thank you to Jeannette Ceja for your passion and dedication to this project, helping shine a spotlight on Hispanic-Latino travelers and communities.

"Innovation gets confused with Invention-- they are not the same words or case." -- Luis Rodriguez Luis works to help others understand how and where technology can be used to improve their lives and business. "The scientific method is computational thinking," he proclaims. And it is that computational thinking that needs to be introduced early in the education process so kids have a chance to explain things in this manner. Education and integration of technology must happen at all levels. As we pursue solving difficult problems we must embrace and apply technology. Flagship Kansas was created for this purpose. Luis is making the connections and he is thoughtful in his approach and he wants us to participate.
The highly anticipated UFC 306 is set to take place this Saturday at the state-of-the-art Las Vegas Sphere. Ringside Report MMA's hosts Dave Simon, AJ D'Alesio, and Fred Garcia shared their insights, predictions, and betting choices for the event during their latest live show. With an exciting main card featuring two title fights and several intriguing matchups, UFC 306 promises to be a thrilling night for MMA fans. https://www.youtube.com/live/xaixBKbywyU Watch the UFC 306 preview replay above or listen to the podcast below. UFC 306 Main Event: Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili The main event showcases a bantamweight title clash between champion Sean O'Malley and challenger Merab Dvalishvili. Dave Simon believes the timing favours O'Malley, stating, "I feel like if Merab got this fight against O'Malley, maybe a year or two ago, he would have won. But here, coming up on September 14th, 2024, this version of Merab and this version of O'Malley, I feel like O'Malley has caught up enough that he will be able to get the job done." Simon predicts an O'Malley victory by decision. AJ D'Alesio agrees with Simon, highlighting O'Malley's striking accuracy and reach advantage. "When you look at the striking game, there's no doubt about it. Who has the better striking accuracy? O'Malley, who's got, like, a 72 inch, reach O'Malley 68 for, for, Merab," D'Alesio notes. Fred Garcia, however, is backing Dvalishvili, citing his wrestling prowess and recent performances. "I'm going to go with Merab. So that's my three-fight parlay for Team Freddie," Garcia states. Merab Dvalishvili's unanimous decision victory over Henry Cejudo at UFC 298. Co-Main Event: Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko The co-main event features a women's flyweight title rematch between champion Alexa Grasso and former champ Valentina Shevchenko. AJ D'Alesio believes Shevchenko's time at the top has passed, saying, "Valentina, like, you know, she had a split decision win against Talia Santos. It's just she's just her time has passed in my opinion."Dave Simon and Fred Garcia agree with D'Alesio, predicting a Grasso victory. Simon states, "I think Grasso won the second one two. It was a draw. They said split draw. But I thought Grasso won a decision I thought she should have walked away with a win. I think she'll get the decision win here over Valentina." Other Notable Fights Opinions are divided in the featherweight bout between Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes. AJ D'Alesio favours Lopes, while Fred Garcia and Dave Simon believe Ortega will emerge victorious. Simon notes, "I love how Ortega came out against the idea. Rodriguez, in his last fight, looked incredible. He looked like the Brian Ortega that could be a world champion." Placing your bets? I'm Theodore Lowry.Today, I'm glad to be presenting you with a conversation with Luis Rodriguez. This was an in-person conversation that I recorded at the Peacemaker Gathering, which the Cowichan People hosted, on southern Vancouver Island. At this indigenous-led gathering, people came from all around. We practiced making peace between us, in the form of ceremonies, discussions, circles, healing, honoring elders, and keeping a sacred fire. This conversation took place during that four day gathering.I met Luis there, and we snuck away to do a recording on the spot, which means that because this took place on a farm, you get some bonus goat noises in the background, the singing of our cousin species: the goats.A little bit about Luis.He has worked for over 40 years in the prison system, bringing creative processes into some of the roughest environments imaginable. He has a bit of a rough background himself, as he'll describe in the conversation. After hard times, and with the support of others, he came to healing, and being able to help others heal themselves. In the places he goes, there's a good deal of violence, of being caged, of inmates not getting what they need as human beings. He brings play into those situations in a way that is and valued so much by those hardened folks that they request for him to come back again and again. Now, I know I've had stereotypes about how art and play is something that we can enjoy when we're living high up the pyramid of needs. But here I learned that play is also needed in the most difficult situations. In his work, Luis invites his participants to imagine simple, powerful metaphors—a train, a musical instrument, crossroads—to enter into their traumas in an approachable way. To adjust their life path, their intentions, and to walk in a way that is more in accord with their true desires, even in the midst of these most difficult situations.I bring you: Play in Prisons, with Luis J. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has always been a fan favorite. But X-Men Origins: Wolverine called into question whether the mutant hero would get the opportunity to carry more than a single solo film. Thankfully, Jackman's desire to take Logan to Japan paid off in the form of 2013's The Wolverine. Adapting one of the character's most popular storylines, the movie marks a departure from its predecessor, tying more closely in with X-Men: The Last Stand than the first Wolverine film. It also marks James Mangold's first time directing an X-Men movie, a decision which paid off remarkably years later. Ryan Luis Rodriguez of One Track Mind joins us to break down The Wolverine. We'll talk about how it draws inspiration from what's come before — including X-Men Origins: Wolverine — bemoan the lack of Rila Fukushima's Yukio in future projects, and that CGI-heavy third act. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/iglesiabiblicaberea/message

Escape from the Planet of the Apes set the franchise off on a brand-new course. And the sequel -- released just over a year after its predecessor -- follows the ape Caesar (Roddy McDowall, as a new character) as he plays a pivotal role in humanity's downfall in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Ryan Luis Rodriguez of One Track Mind joins the show to discuss this 1972 edition of the long-running Planet of the Apes franchise. We'll discuss McDowall's ability to transform into an entirely new ape character, the movie's more on-the-nose than ever social commentary, and whether this film should have ended this initial era of Planet of the Apes. Season 2 is providing our most controversial episode yet, as BEN HASLAR and RYAN LUIS RODRIGUEZ from the Reels of Justice podcast fan the flames of conventionality to incinerate the films of THE MCU. Causing havoc along the way is their podcasting co-host and Engineer ROBB MAYNARD. Everyone has their strong opinions on this topic and we promise you none of them will be reflected adequately here. This is just madness. To vote for the winners, visit us at www.incineratorpod.com.
Bro Luis Rodriguez
At age sixteen, Luis Rodriguez had already been in jail for selling crack. But now, arrested for attempted murder, he was in prison once again—looking at a life sentence. But God spoke into his guilty circumstances. Behind bars, young Luis remembered his early years when his mother had faithfully taken him to church. He now felt God tugging at his heart. Luis, moved by Him, repented of his sins and came to Jesus. In his early years, the apostle Paul’s “street name” was Saul. He was guilty of aggravated assault on believers in Jesus and had murder in his heart (Acts 9:1). There’s evidence he was a kind of gang leader, and part of the mob at the execution of Stephen (Acts 7:58). But God spoke into Saul’s guilty circumstances—literally. On the street leading into Damascus, Saul was blinded by a light, and Jesus spoke to him, “Why do you persecute me?” (v. 9:4). Saul asked, “Who are you, Lord?” (v. 5), and that was the beginning of his new life. He came to Jesus. Luis Rodriguez served time but eventually was granted parole. Since then, he’s served God, devoting his life to prison ministry in the US and Central America. God specializes in redeeming the worst of us. He tugs at our hearts and speaks into our guilt-drenched lives. Maybe it’s time we repented of our sins. Maybe it’s time to come to Jesus.
