This week, Trev and Stu discuss Valve’s surprise Steam Deck price hike, debate whether gaming is becoming more expensive, and explore how changing buying habits could shape the future of consoles and PC gaming. Valve shocks gamers with major Steam Deck OLED price increases. Does the Steam Deck still offer good value, or have rivals overtaken it? Comparing the Steam Deck against the Lenovo Legion Go S and ROG Ally. Why modern consoles and handhelds are getting more expensive instead of cheaper. A look back at the PS2, Nintendo 64 and the era of dramatic hardware price cuts. Is gaming really more expensive today, or are we getting more value from longer-lasting hardware? Budget PCs, second-hand components and why more players may be moving away from traditional consoles. Predictions for the Steam Machine, PS6 and the future cost of gaming hardware. Lenovo has pulled a handheld device that shipped preloaded with Nintendo and Sega games, raising questions about licensing, oversight, and how something like this makes it to market. The Steam Deck also enters the spotlight after a major price hike that has players debating value, timing, and Valve's long‑term strategy. PlayStation rumors heat up as reports suggest the PS6 could support PS3 titles thanks to a new CPU design. John and Ryan explore what this could mean for backward compatibility and how it might reshape Sony's next generation. To wrap up the show, the Inflation Deflation Challenge features a retro review of Woody Woodpecker: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park on the PS2. Valve is jacking up the price of the Steam Deck several hundred dollars, and the word on the street is that the Steam Machine is going to run around $1200. The PS6 and next gen XBOX are rumored to start at around around $1000 as well. And good luck building a gaming PC cheaper. Gamers need to get used to $1000 consoles, because that's where we're at. What a week! On the back of Colin's PSN account being temporarily hijacked by nefarious forces, we have an enormous amount to get through for our ever-eager audience. We dissect what happened, why it happened, how we've been communicating with Sony to try and convince them to fix the major issues plaguing their online service, and what we feel you should do to protect yourself. But understand this, and understand it well: PSN's security is a complete joke. All an outsider needs to get access to your account is an email address and mundane information like the date you made a random purchase, and they'll give your account to basically anyone. Your password doesn't matter, your 2FA doesn't matter, and your passkey doesn't matter. To repeat: Your password doesn't matter, your 2FA doesn't matter, and your passkey doesn't matter. And if you want more proof, someone in our audience reset two of his own accounts back-to-back with PlayStation's hilariously-deficient (and potentially-compromised) third world customer service call centers, just to make the point. Sony must make serious changes and reunite people with their stolen PSN accounts, and we intend on pressing until they do. We are your loyal and dedicated customers. Remember? Other news this week includes the announcement of a fresh State of Play in early June, confirmation that PlayStation will no longer release its single-player games on PC, the official end of Destiny 2, the renaming of Fairgames, rumors of a return of Infamous, an increase in PS+ pricing, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Could Shuhei Yoshida ever return to PlayStation? Why have mergers and acquisitions dramatically slowed down in the games industry? Will Sony pull PS5s from shelves shortly after PS6 launches due to pricing tensions? Which members of Cobra would Chris and Dustin be? Klinkt creepy, klinkt duister, klinkt als From Software.

Hello one and all, and welcome back to another episode of Trophy Talk! After a few month hiatus Colin returns to the hosting chair, along side Josh of course. Together, they discuss the most recent round of PlayStation hardware price hikes and speculate on what this could mean for the launch of PS6 and the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. From there, Josh and Colin dig into a new game that has been getting quite a bit of media attention lately, Crimson Desert. The contentious initial reviews and impressions of Crimson Desert, mixed with some truly positive analysis and recommendations from players make Crimson Desert a great flash point for examining the do's and don'ts of modern game design. Would you play a game that made you initially tap X to run in 2026? What if it's platinum was still unobtained and was speculated to be over 300 hours? Or, does none of that matter because the point of something like Crimson Desert is to allow you to get lost and build your own stories and adventures in its sandbox? On top of all of that Josh and Colin of course get into some Platinum shout outs, and what they've been playing. Josh has been trying his hand at the aforementioned Crimson Desert and unsurprisingly has quite a bit to say about it. Both Josh and Colin sunk their teeth into Resident Evil Requiem, and Colin has spent a lot of time in the walking sim / graphic novel territory with both Telltales: The Expanse, and Star Trek: Resurgence. As always, we hope you enjoy the discussion. Thank you for listening!

Sometimes, there are those unfortunate weeks in gaming where it feels like the bad news just piles on top of each other, and this last week was almost the epitome of that, and for once, Xbox actually is not involved. But Sony, Nintendo, and Epic all took their swing at the crown. Sony announced major price increases for all formats of PlayStation 5 hardware with the PS5 Pro going up to a whopping $899 USD and the PS5 Disc version costing $649. Even the PS Portal went up to $249 as well. Should we be super concerned about what this means, gamers will be willing to spend on PS6? Or are we just in an extended bad period and things will eventually work themselves out? That's not all, because Sony also closed down another one of their studios Dark Outlaw Games, and the true depth of their dynamic pricing shows itself and it doesn't look great for those on the losing end of the big benefits. Plus, Nintendo introduces $10 off first-party digital games, is this another nail in the coffin for physical? Xbox had its Partner Preview event and could be introducing yet another tier of Xbox Game Pass, Epic laid off 1,000 developers as a downturn in Fortnite players, among other issues, affecting the publisher. In this episode of PS This is Awesome!, Fred is BACK! (if briefly) to discuss Resident Evil Requiem. For the news this week, the guys run through a packed lineup of PlayStation news, starting with growing anticipation for Marvel's Wolverine as Sony appears to be gearing up for a proper reveal soon. They also spend time on Crimson Desert, discussing both the developers' response to criticism over clunky controls and concerns about the game's performance mode on base PS5, with agreement that it needs more polish before release. The conversation then shifts to Housemarque's Saros, which is positioned as a more accessible evolution of Returnal, with the hosts debating whether dialing back the roguelike difficulty is a good move. They also touch on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 taking inspiration from Gran Turismo 7 for its upcoming PSVR2 mode, highlighting how PlayStation's VR efforts are influencing even first-party Xbox titles. Finally, the episode wraps with discussion around Mark Cerny's comments on PS6, focusing on Sony's continued push for major graphical advancements and what that could mean for the next generation of PlayStation hardware.Visit www.patreon.com/psthisisawesome to support the show and help us continue producing the content you love! Please, if you enjoyed the content — or even if you didn't quite enjoy this one — come back. We were already recording this episode when unexpected news broke: Sony is shuttering Texas-based first-party remake and port specialist studio Bluepoint. Equally shocking -- when taking into context the many first and second party failures, flubs, and misalignments in recent years -- is PlayStation Studios lead Hermen Hulst still somehow having a job. Bluepoint has an exceptional pedigree alongside untapped potential, but that's been squandered by the same machinery that allowed them to make a multiplayer game in the first place. Who is responsible for all of this first party buffonery? What's with this obsession with established teams all chasing the same exact thing? And how lucky is Sony that the going is so good for PlayStation 5 that none of this really seems to matter? Here's hoping the bloodletting begins and ends here, but we're skeptical. Other news this week includes rumors of PlayStation 6's delayed timeline, when we might expect to see Santa Monica Studios' unannounced title, McFarlane Toys picking up the Sony toy license, and more. Then, we wrap things up with listener inquiries. On the back of Silent Hill: Townfall's PS5 console exclusivity, why does Sony bother chasing these deals these days? Does Fairgame$ have an icecube's chance in hell of succeeding? Will God of War's remake be one compilation or three separate games? Is Dustin ready for his fatherly snot-sucking duties? With the chase for AI obliterating affordability in computing-related markets, it should come as no surprise that Sony may be deliberating a delay for PlayStation 6's rollout and release. But recent commentary from a well-connected financial analyst suggests that PS6's purported delay may be more substantial than we thought, perhaps precipitated by more factors than we initially thought. When does the gaming world need the next PlayStation? Could we go potentially several more years on PS5 alone? We discuss.
