Wall Street gave up early gains as investors turned cautious ahead of Nvidia’s earnings, while the latest Fed minutes showed many officials leaning against a December rate cut. Elsewhere, Alphabet shares jumped on rave reviews for its new Gemini AI model, Lowe’s beat profit estimates on strong online growth, and Target’s scaled-back outlook signalled a tougher road ahead for its incoming CEO. In commodities, oil slumped on a US inventory build while copper rebounded on supply concerns, and the US dollar climbed to a five-week high. Neal Stephenson—legendary sci-fi author who coined "metaverse" in his 1992 novel Snow Crash—and Rebecca Barkin, co-founder of Lamina1, return to the AI XR Podcast for a wide-ranging conversation about building a decentralized creator economy, launching their dystopian AI world-building project Artifact, and why blockchain might finally free creators from Big Tech's chokehold. Joined by Charlie, Ted, and Rony, the discussion spans Neal's lost Magic Leap project, the resurrection of the open metaverse dream, and how decentralized platforms could flip Hollywood's power structure on its head.Rebecca details Lamina1's journey from blockchain currency for the open metaverse to Spaces, a multimedia creator platform built on Ethereum that allows IP owners to retain control, set royalties, and build direct relationships with fans. Think YouTube meets Discord, but on decentralized rails. The goal isn't socialism—it's a creative meritocracy where artists get equity in platforms they help build, instead of just one-time payouts while Netflix captures all the value.Neal unpacks Artifact, Lamina1's first creative test case: a post-Singularity world where 12 competing mega-AIs fight over energy, copper, water, and GPUs while humans live in the interstices. Co-created with Weta Workshop using AI tools like World Labs' marble splats, the project invites fans to co-create lore, not just consume it. It's a living experiment in collaborative IP development—and proof that small teams with AI amplifiers can build Grand Theft Auto-scale worlds.Guest HighlightsNeal Stephenson coined "metaverse" in Snow Crash; former Magic Leap creative lead with lost IP still trapped at the company.Rebecca Barkin pivoted Lamina1 from metaverse currency to Spaces: a decentralized platform for multimedia creators retaining IP rights and earning equity.Artifact launches as Lamina1's test case—collaborative world-building in a dystopian post-AI Singularity where fans shape the narrative.Built on Ethereum with Consensus Network backing; uses blockchain to solve micro-transaction volatility and give creators sustainable economics.Signed Bob's Burgers team (Ghosted Media) and other Hollywood refugees seeking autonomy from studio gatekeepers.News HighlightsValve launches PC cube + wireless Index headset—sub-$1000 system to compete with Xbox/PlayStation and revive PCVR market, but will enthusiasts bite?Meta adds real-time computer vision to AI glasses—Ray-Ban smart glasses gain live AI interpretation, pushing toward inflection point for wearables.Google Maps integrates Gemini AI—natural language directions and real-world context awareness transform navigation into conversational copilot.11 Labs launches voice marketplace—Michael Caine licenses voice cloning; Matthew McConaughey invests but won't sell his own likeness.Disney announces AI user-generated content strategy—Bob Iger teases platforms for fans to create with Disney IP, following Lego's remix culture playbook.Big thanks to our sponsor Zappar. BT & Sal dive deep into the MLB free agency landscape, using a Gemini-AI generated cliff notes version of a lengthy Jeff Passan article to hit the main points. They discuss the Mets' apparent willingness to trade almost anyone (Nimmo, McNeil, Senga, etc.) and the Yankees' dilemma over Trent Grisham's qualifying offer, with Sal arguing the move complicates the future of prospects like Dominguez. The "Bald-Faced Lie, Bald-Faced Truth" segment heats up with: The Mets Roster & AI: Will David Stearns use AI to build the team? (BT says Lie, Sal says Truth on its use). The Quick Attack: Did Jonathan Quick have the right to attack Mason Appleton for shooting the puck after the horn? (They both say Truth, respecting the unwritten rule). Nets Stink: Will the Nets win less than 10 games? (Sal says Truth, showing his disdain for the team). Finally, an industry source drops a bombshell, suggesting it's "very unlikely" Pete Alonso returns to the Mets, with the Angels being eyed as the "stupid team to overpay." The conversation concludes with a bizarre debate about the lack of urinal dividers at Citi Field and MetLife.
The Chat Among Titans: From Teslas to K-Pop Demons In this episode of Project Synapse, Marcel Gagner, John Pinard, and Jim engage in a lively discussion that seamlessly weaves through a variety of topics. Marcel shares his first-hand Tesla Model Y test drive experience, showcasing the futuristic feel of Tesla's self-driving capabilities. Could a model named…. Kimi K2 Thinking wreak havoc on the U.S. AI scene?
In today's MadTech Daily, we cover Comcast looking to buy ITV's broadcast arm for £2bn, Apple nearing a USD$1bn deal to power a Siri overhaul with Google's Gemini AI, and the EU weakening its landmark AI Act amid Big Tech pressure.
Welcome to Top of the Morning.. I'm Nelson John. This week's stories may look unrelated a US government shutdown, a pharma firm duped by an email typo, Google Maps getting an AI brain, SEBI's digital gold warning, and a billion-dollar jet engine deal. But they all point to one thing: how fragile our systems really are. In the US, a 40-day shutdown is pushing air travel toward collapse. Air traffic controllers aren't being paid, flights are being slashed, and political gridlock is grounding families ahead of Thanksgiving. Infrastructure, it turns out, can't run on politics. Back home, Dr. Reddy's lost ₹2.16 crore to an email scam one capital letter fooled its finance team. A reminder that the weakest link in any digital system is still human. Meanwhile, Google Maps is getting a Gemini AI upgrade for India smarter routes, live alerts, even accident-prone zone warnings. It's a glimpse of AI that's genuinely useful, though it raises fresh privacy questions. SEBI, on the other hand, is warning investors about digital gold those flashy online gold products aren't regulated, meaning no safety net if things go wrong. And HAL just inked a $1 billion deal with GE Aerospace for fighter jet engines. Critical for India's defense ambitions, but also proof we still depend heavily on foreign tech. From government grids to financial systems, from AI tools to defense deals, one truth stands out: the most advanced systems fail at their simplest points trust, oversight, and human judgment. The group compares weight, comfort, thermal balance, strap systems, and software ecosystems. Marty shares his early hands-on impressions with the Galaxy XR—including its lighter design but occasional light leakage—while Ben and Jill discuss how purpose may determine market success: Vision Pro for spatial productivity, Galaxy XR for approachable consumer entry. The discussion moves to VisionOS Beta 4, where developer-focused updates aim to improve stability and groundwork for more immersive experiences. The consensus: incremental but necessary. Then comes one of the show's most passionate sections: Apple's decision not to allow trade-ins of the first-generation Vision Pro. The panel debates how this affects: • customer loyalty • early-adopter trust • whether the Vision Pro is being treated like a dev kit vs. consumer product. Reactions range from “understandable” to “rough look for a $3,500 device.” From there, the conversation shifts to the GM / CarPlay breakup, which inspires instant groans. Everyone shares personal and community stories confirming that CarPlay is no longer a luxury—it's baseline expectation. One panelist notes even non-tech friends refuse to buy a car without CarPlay, which says more than any product review ever could. iPhone Air production and strategy concerns, tied to mid-tier pricing pressure YouTube's new AI deepfake likeness detection, and what it means for creators and security Topics and Links In Touch With Vision Pro this week. visionOS 26.1 Beta 3 Release Notes | Apple Developer Documentation New Samsung Vision Pro Killer? In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I look at how Google Cloud is helping businesses create their futures — not just optimize their past — through Gemini Enterprise.Highlights00:14 — Google Cloud really stepped out here with the launch of Gemini Enterprise, and I would like to share with you eight reasons why I feel that the launch of Gemini Enterprise now makes Google Cloud the number one player in the world for AI for business. So first, I think the end-to-end capabilities that are resident within the Gemini AI platform are essential for customers01:16 — It's a little hard to know where to start and really hard to figure out: How do I put together the right mix of piece solutions from lots of different vendors? Now, Gemini Enterprise here offers the full set of end-to-end capabilities Two: While Gemini Enterprise does offer all the pieces, it also gives customers complete choice to use third-party solutions.02:34 — Flexible pricing: There's Google Enterprise, which is $30 per user per month. And then there's Google Business, that's $21 per user per month. It's got massive data access, right? So the need to ensure that these tools have access to the right data in a secure and fully integrated fashion is key. It's got that. The whole notion of governance and security.03:37 — The ecosystem that's been built out, that's been a huge part of Google Cloud's success. And it ties in with the openness for customers, giving lots and lots of different choices here — of who, of what Gemini Enterprise works with. And then a little bit of a not-so-secret secret here: the Delta team within Google Cloud Consulting and Professional Services.04:24 — What the most successful tech companies today are doing is helping companies create their futures, not just perfect what they've done in the past. And this is a long-standing thought here that Kurian has made. I've talked about this a number of times, and it goes back to six years ago when he took over as CEO of Google Cloud. Visit Cloud Wars for more.

The sale concludes a once‑promising venture, though a new owner could yet revive the innovative brand. Pakistan's fake “graphene” batteries issue About 90% of Pakistan's e‑bikes reportedly use mislabeled lead‑acid “graphene” batteries, undermining EV subsidy goals.
