This Day in Legal History: Magna Carta Sealed at RunnymedeOn this day in 1215, in a meadow at Runnymede on the south bank of the Thames, King John of England affixed his seal to a document the rebellious English barons had drafted, in which the king conceded a series of limits on his own royal authority. We call it Magna Carta — the Great Charter. The immediate political context was a baronial revolt against John's tax exactions for his disastrous French wars, and most of the sixty-three chapters as drafted in 1215 are concerned with the highly specific grievances of a feudal aristocracy: scutage, wardship, the inheritance fees of widows, the freedom of the church, the standardization of weights and measures in the king's markets. The two chapters that the centuries have remembered are 39 and 40. Chapter 39 says that no free man shall be taken or imprisoned or dispossessed except by the lawful judgment of his peers or by the law of the land. Chapter 40 says that to no one will the king sell, deny, or delay right or justice. The Charter was annulled by Pope Innocent III within ten weeks of sealing — the pope held that John, as a vassal of the Holy See, could not be bound by a treaty extracted under duress — and the country immediately collapsed into the First Barons' War. But John died in October 1216, his nine-year-old son Henry III's regents reissued the Charter as a tactical concession the next month, it was reissued again in 1217 and 1225, and by the late thirteenth century the 1225 version had been confirmed by successive kings as a foundational statute of the realm. Edward Coke, writing in the seventeenth century, transformed Chapter 39's “law of the land” into the doctrine of due process, and the founding generation of the American Republic picked up Coke's reading and wrote it directly into the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution. The phrase “due process of law” in those amendments is the most consequential American inheritance from the Runnymede document. The principle the barons were trying to extract from a beleaguered king — that the law constrains the sovereign too — is the substrate on which everything we recognize as constitutionalism is built. Eight hundred and eleven years on, the principle is still the work. The Rhode Island travel-ban lawsuit we covered on June 8 took a sharp turn on Friday. Chief Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., of the District of Rhode Island held a status conference in Dorcas International Institute v. USCIS at which he was openly frustrated with the Justice Department for failing to immediately implement his June 5 vacatur of the four USCIS benefit-freeze policies for nationals of the thirty-nine travel-ban countries. The judge's message, in plain terms, was that vacatur under the Administrative Procedure Act is self-executing — the moment the order was entered, the policies ceased to exist, and the agency was obligated to resume processing affirmative benefits, asylum claims, and adjudicator-instruction reviews on the prior pre-freeze basis. The Trump administration, after the hearing, told the court it would comply, restart adjudications, and clear the backlog. It also did what defendants typically do when they have lost on the merits and lost again on compliance: it filed a notice of appeal with the First Circuit and asked the appellate court to stay the vacatur pending appeal. That is the live question now. The First Circuit's stay analysis runs through the standard Nken v. Holder factors — likelihood of success on the merits, irreparable harm, the balance of equities, and the public interest — and the administration's strongest argument on each is going to be familiar: the executive needs administrative breathing room to implement a travel ban, mass restoration of adjudications creates national-security risk, the harm to applicants is reversible if their adjudications are paused for a few more weeks. The plaintiffs' strongest counterarguments are also familiar: the policies were unlawful when adopted and the agency had no business adopting them, the harm to applicants from continued delay is concrete and accruing daily, and the First Circuit is not in the business of staying vacaturs of unlawful agency action in order to let the agency continue acting unlawfully. Watch the First Circuit's calendar this week. The stay motion is the next inflection point.Trump officials agree to resume asylum processing after being scolded by judge | The Washington PostGoogle filed suit on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against a China-based cybercrime network it calls the “Outsider Enterprise,” alleging that the network's members used Google's Gemini large-language model to generate the code, copy, and templates for a phishing-as-a-service platform that has built more than nine thousand fraudulent websites and sent two and a half million scam text messages in the two weeks ending June 1 alone. The complaint is significant for two reasons. First, it is, to Google's knowledge, the first time the company has affirmatively sued threat actors for using its own generative-AI product as the input to a scaled criminal operation, as distinct from the more usual posture of suing scammers who impersonate Google brands. The legal theories are a mix of Lanham Act false-designation-of-origin and trademark-infringement counts, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act counts based on Outsider's unauthorized access to Google services, breach-of-contract counts on the Gemini terms of service, and a RICO count. Second, the factual record will be a road map for the next decade of AI-misuse litigation. The complaint describes Telegram channels in which Outsider members trade prompts that get Gemini to write phishing code, a library of two hundred and ninety prebuilt templates impersonating brands ranging from the U.S. Postal Service to state DMVs to E-ZPass, and an FBI estimate that the broader campaign Outsider participates in has stolen roughly 3.87 million card numbers and caused $1.9 billion in losses since July 2023. The remedy Google is seeking is a permanent injunction shutting the operation down, plus domain seizures and account terminations across Google's services and at major U.S. carriers, which Google says it has been coordinating with the FBI, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The deeper legal question the case may end up clarifying is whether and to what extent platforms can use private civil suits as the front-line enforcement mechanism against AI-augmented criminal activity that the public criminal-justice system has had trouble keeping up with.Google sues Chinese cybercrime ring that weaponized Gemini AI for phishing scams | TechCrunchA federal district judge in Washington on Friday issued a preliminary injunction barring the Trump administration from continuing to implement Executive Order 14253, the order under which the National Park Service had been scrubbing exhibits, signage, and online materials at sites administered by the Department of the Interior. The judge gave the administration three weeks to restore the materials it had already removed. The order at issue, signed in March, directed federal cultural agencies to identify and remove content that, in the executive's view, reflected “improper, divisive, or anti-American ideology” or “partisan” framing. In the months that followed, the National Park Service had taken down or altered displays addressing slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, the internment of Japanese Americans during the Second World War, climate change, and the histories of Native American dispossession at sites including the Stonewall National Monument, Independence Hall, and the Manzanar National Historic Site. The case is American Historical Association v. Department of the Interior, brought by historians' professional associations and a coalition of plaintiffs that includes affected park employees and visitor-experience contractors. The legal theory pleaded was multi-strand: First Amendment viewpoint discrimination as applied to government speech that has taken on a public-forum character, Administrative Procedure Act challenges on the ground that the agency failed to provide a reasoned basis for the removals and failed to consider statutory commands under the Organic Act of 1916, and a Federal Records Act challenge to the destruction of materials that constituted federal records. The judge held that the plaintiffs were likely to succeed on the First Amendment claim and the APA claim, found irreparable harm in the ongoing loss of public access to the underlying historical materials, and found that the public interest was best served by restoration. The administration is widely expected to appeal to the D.C. Circuit. In the meantime, the three-week restoration clock is running.Judge blocks Trump national parks order, calling it “censorship” | The Washington Post This is a public episode. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Israel and Lebanon agreed on Wednesday to renew their fragile ceasefire and create a number of “pilot” security zones inside Lebanon from which Hezbollah terrorists would be banned. This comes as the US House, for the first time, approved a war powers resolution that would halt the US military action against Iran, even as the US is still negotiating a permanent ceasefire with the Islamic Regime. Horovitz unwinds the storm of headlines from the US and speaks about the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Dozens of ultra-Orthodox extremists smashed windows and caused property damage while trying to break into Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice Noam Sohlberg’s house during a riot Wednesday night, in the latest such violent demonstration targeting law enforcement over the arrest of Haredi draft dodgers. Sohlberg’s wife, Meira, said to reporters outside her vandalized home. “Look at this devastation; it’s a pogrom. What is this, Kristallnacht?” Horovitz weighs in on what led up to this smashing of a societal red line. Lawmakers voted 61-57 in the Knesset on Wednesday to elect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal lawyer, Michael Rabello, as state comptroller in a controversial do-over vote marred by accusations that illegal pressure tainted the election. Can Rabello freely criticize the government of his former client? We get Horovitz's take. And finally, Horovitz narrates a troubling conversation he held this week -- with AI.

The podcast hosts discussed personal updates and military experiences before sharing news stories. News Of the Week Terry shared a story about drunk deer in France, and warning drivers about inebriated wildlife, while Jill shared about firefighters rescuing a 2-year-old boy whose head got stuck between staircase balusters. The conversation included detailed recollections from Keith and Terry about their military boot camp experiences, including regulations about personal items and church services. The hosts also briefly mentioned an upcoming Amazon Audible promotion commercial. Keith discussed a case in Malaysia where a French teen faced charges for licking and posting a video of a vending machine straw, which led to public nuisance and mischief charges. Terry shared a story about Colorado Parks and Recreation removing a 250-pound black bear from a home using tranquilizers. Jill shared news about Jericho High School in New York having 21 valedictorians in their graduating class, with over 300 students total, highlighting the high academic achievement in the area. Keith shared a story about kamikaze dolphins, explaining that while Iran claimed to use mine-carrying dolphins against US warships, the US Navy’s Marine Mammal Program has a long history of using dolphins and sea lions for mine detection and harbor security, though not as weapons. Keith noted that modern drone technology has developed robotic versions of marine animals with cameras for surveillance purposes. The conversation then shifted to Terry, who began discussing a story about an Illinois museum receiving a speeding ticket for a replica Knight Rider car that hadn’t moved in over a decade. Jill's Trivia Quiz Jill then hosted a John Wayne trivia quiz where participants answered questions about the actor’s films, family members who appeared in his movies, and various details from his career. The quiz covered topics including which actress appeared in the most John Wayne films, which of his sons acted in nine of his movies, and which location he frequently used in his films. Terry's Top 10 List Terry presented a humorous top 10 list about reasons why Donald Trump’s cell phone has not been released to the market, including issues with alerts, autocorrect, battery life, and GPS functionality. The discussion revealed that Keith had not heard of the Trump phone before and questioned its existence, leading to a brief conversation about other celebrity-branded products. Anchor Topic Keith discussed his experience using AI tools, particularly Gemini AI through Chrome, to generate show notes, titles, and image descriptions for their podcast, sharing specific techniques he found helpful for creating content while blind. Email and Final Thoughts Keith shared humorous emails and voicemails, including jokes and stories sent by listeners. 424. Google Reviews: What Coworking Spaces Must Stop Doing Immediately

Everything Coworking

Play Episode Listen Later May 12, 2026 37:19

Google Review Policy Changes: What Coworking Operators Must Do Right Now Google issued major updates to its Maps user-generated content policy in April 2026, and if you've been relying on any of the review strategies that have been standard practice in coworking for years, you need to stop and read this now. These changes directly affect how you can ask for, manage, and even display Google reviews. And it's not just about new reviews Google has deployed Gemini AI enforcement tools that are actively scanning your existing review history for violations. Phase three enforcement, which includes ranking penalties, is expected in May and June 2026. There is no time to sit on this. In this episode, Jamie walks through all eight policy changes and exactly what you need to do about each one. Why Your Google Business Profile Is Non-Negotiable Before diving into the changes: your Google Business Profile is the top of the funnel for your coworking business. When someone searches "coworking near me" or "meeting rooms near me," the map pack is what they see first and your profile is what lives there. It gets 10 to 20 times the traffic your website gets. Reviews are a core part of what keeps that profile current, credible, and ranking well. Losing review functionality or getting your profile suspended is not a minor setback. For most coworking operators, it is effectively a lead generation crisis. That's why this update matters so much. The 8 Policy Changes 1. No More Onsite Review Solicitation: You can no longer ask customers to leave a review while they are physically in your space. Google considers this pressured solicitation. That means: No verbal asks to members or meeting room users while they're on site No tablet at the front desk with a review prompt pulled up No QR codes in the space linking to your Google review page No asking event attendees on their way out the door Google can detect when reviews are submitted from your business location and will flag patterns of onsite reviews as inauthentic. What to do: Remove any review-related signage and QR codes. Replace with neutral language "We'd love your feedback" without mentioning Google specifically. Shift all review requests to automated follow-up emails or texts that go out after someone has left the building. 2. No More Incentivized Reviews: You cannot offer anything of value in exchange for a Google review. That includes: Free day passes or meeting room credits Membership discounts Referral program perks tied to leaving a review Staff bonuses or KPI tracking tied to Google reviews Contests or challenges (including internal programs like the Google Review Challenge we've run in Community Manager University, which need to be restructured) Offering to refund a visit or provide a credit in exchange for removing or revising a negative review What to do: Decouple your review strategy from any rewards or referral programs entirely. If you run a review challenge or staff incentive program, restructure it around general feedback, not Google reviews specifically. Focus team energy on delivering experiences worth writing about organically. 3. No More Review Gating Review gating means filtering customers based on their likely sentiment before directing them to Google. The common setup looks like this: ask for a thumbs up or thumbs down, send the happy people to the Google review page (defaulted to five stars), and send the unhappy people to a private feedback email. That is no longer allowed. Every customer must receive the same call to action, sent to the same destination, regardless of how they might feel about their experience. This increases your exposure to negative reviews, which means two things matter more than ever: delivering a genuinely great experience, and getting in front of problems immediately before someone leaves the space unhappy and heads straight to Google. What to do: Audit any gating logic in your CRM automations whether you're using CoLevel, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, or another platform. Update those sequences so everyone receives the same follow-up with neutral feedback language. Remove direct links to Google reviews with language specifically asking for a Google review. You can still link to your Google Business Profile; you just cannot use the word Google or make it a conditional destination. 4. No Asking for Specific Content or Staff Name Mentions You cannot coach reviewers to mention specific products, services, or team members by name. That means: No asking members to mention private offices or meeting rooms in their reviews No asking guests to thank a specific community manager by name No staff incentive programs built around getting mentioned in reviews Google's AI will scan for these text patterns and flag or remove reviews that appear to have been coached. This is particularly tricky because keyword mentions in reviews do help with SEO but the path forward is to create experiences so compelling that people mention what matters naturally, without being asked. What to do: Let reviewers write whatever they write. If you want meeting room reviews, set up automated follow-ups specifically triggered by meeting room bookings people will naturally describe what they did. SEO-optimize your Google Business Profile through other means, including your posts, which you can and should still be doing intentionally. 5. No Fake Reviews Every Google review must reflect a genuine customer experience. Reviews from friends, family members, or team members who haven't actually used the space as a customer will be removed. This is especially common during new space launches, when operators ask their personal networks for support. What to do: Don't ask for reviews from non-customers. It wastes everyone's time and it won't hold up. Put that energy into getting reviews from real members, meeting room users, and event guests through compliant automated systems. 6. No Cross-Platform Review Campaigns You cannot use other platforms (social media, email lists, community groups) to coordinate Google review campaigns. That includes: Posting in your Facebook group asking members to leave a Google review Sending an email blast to your full membership asking for reviews Promoting a "Review Friday" push in your member Slack channel Instagram Stories with a link to your Google review page Google can detect when a batch of reviews comes in all at once and will flag that pattern as coordinated and inauthentic. What to do: Replace campaigns with individual, automated, trigger-based follow-ups. The goal is a steady drip of reviews tied to specific interactions (a tour, a day pass, an event, a membership milestone), not a wave that arrives all at once. This also distributes the timing naturally so no pattern gets flagged. 7. No AI-Generated Reviews Google's AI can detect text generated by ChatGPT, Claude, and similar tools and will remove those reviews. Even if you're sending compliant automated emails, if you suggest that members use AI to write their review or provide a template they can feed into AI, those reviews could still get flagged. What to do: Do not suggest that members use AI to write reviews. Do not provide pre-written review templates. Consider adding language to your automated review requests asking people to share their experience in their own words. 8. Reviews Must Come from a Personal Device Reviews must be submitted from the reviewer's personal device. No front desk tablets, no shared computers, no staff member handing someone a phone with the review page already pulled up. What to do: Most operators aren't doing this anyway, but if you have any setup that makes it easy for someone to leave a review from a shared device on-site, remove it. The Enforcement Timeline March 2026: Google activated new Gemini AI detection systems and began scanning, including existing review histories. April 2026: Active enforcement began. Non-compliant reviews are being removed. Google has already removed reviews from over 60,000 businesses and placed posting restrictions on over 782,000 accounts. May/June 2026 (Phase 3): Ranking adjustments will be applied to businesses with significant policy violations. Your search visibility could drop. This is not a "deal with it later" situation. Your Action Plan 1. Audit your automations. Check your CRM (CoLevel, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Pipedrive, etc.) and your coworking management platform (OfficeRnD, Nexudus, Optix, Coworks, Archy, Yardi) for any automated emails or SMS sequences that request Google reviews. Update any gating logic, remove direct Google review links, and adjust the language to be neutral. Also consider scheduling automated follow-ups to go out after hours or on weekends if members receive and respond to them while still on-site, it could still trigger a flag. 2. Update signage and physical touchpoints. Walk through your space and remove any QR codes, signs, or collateral that ask for a Google review or link directly to your review page. Replace with neutral feedback language or remove entirely. Check welcome packets, onboarding materials, and anything printed. 3. Retrain your team. Your community managers, front desk staff, and any outsourced marketing contractors need to know exactly what changed. Brief them on what they cannot say, cannot ask, and cannot offer. Give them this episode. CMU members will receive a cheat sheet and support playbook shortly. 4. Remove all incentive programs tied to reviews. Any staff bonus structures, contests, or member incentives connected to Google reviews need to come down immediately. 5. Build review generation into your systems, not your scripts. Set up automated, trigger-based one-to-one follow-ups for key moments: post-tour, 30 days into membership, after a meeting room booking, after an event. No campaigns, no broadcasts. Individual, triggered, automated. 6. Revisit the member and guest experience. The best long-term review strategy is an experience people cannot help but talk about. Use this as a forcing function to audit the full member and guest journey: what's frustrating, what's forgettable, and what's genuinely great. Get a peer or outside set of eyes on it if you can. Recorded live from the stage at the SIAL Innovation Show in Montreal, this special episode of The Voice of Retail dives headfirst into one of the most disruptive forces reshaping commerce: artificial intelligence and its growing influence on how consumers discover, evaluate, and purchase food and grocery products. Michael welcomes Guillaume Mathieu, Co-Founder and Partner at Montreal's ilot, a strategic consultancy helping brands and retailers navigate growth, innovation, and consumer behaviour in Quebec and beyond. Guillaume also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Boillon, a leading B2B media platform for Quebec's agri-food sector, and is himself a podcaster in the brand and food space. Together, they unpack new consumer research revealing a fascinating contradiction: while consumers—especially younger shoppers—are rapidly embracing AI tools in everyday life, many remain hesitant when AI intersects with food. Why? Because food is deeply emotional, personal, and tied to authenticity. Guillaume shares proprietary insights showing that consumers are comfortable with “invisible AI,” such as asking ChatGPT for recipes or meal ideas, but become significantly more skeptical when AI becomes physically visible—whether that's robotic baristas, automated cooking systems, or AI-driven food preparation. The conversation explores how search behaviour is rapidly evolving from short keywords to highly contextual prompts. Consumers are no longer searching “pasta sauce”—they're asking for “a locally made tomato sauce perfect for a Mother's Day dinner.” That shift is creating enormous opportunities for smaller brands to compete against larger incumbents by winning on relevance, storytelling, authenticity, reviews, and discoverability across platforms like Reddit, websites, and emerging generative engines. Michael and Guillaume also examine the rise of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), the next evolution of SEO, and why brands must rethink their digital content strategy immediately. Product pages, recipes, reviews, seasonal content, and contextual storytelling may soon become critical assets in getting surfaced by platforms like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and other AI-powered recommendation engines. On the retail side, the discussion turns to smart appliances, AI-powered grocery ecosystems, and the possibility that refrigerators themselves could become the next e-commerce channel. As technology companies, delivery platforms, and retailers compete for ownership of consumer relationships, this episode offers essential strategic insight for grocers, food brands, marketers, and retail executives.   https://ilotetcie.com/ Michael LeBlanc is the president and founder of M.E. Check out the Artemis II moon wallpaper, and the LunarWall shortcut courtesy of Federico Viticci.  In addition to the Rise mascot floating around the Artemis capsule, the world certainly took note of the floating Nutella jar.  This was not the only COTS product aboard.  In addition to the photos shot on iPhone and Nikon D5, Jessica Alba's Honest lotion also had its moment. NPR had an entertaining story about all of the Moon movies – at least those that had Moon in the title.  This of course missed examples such as the Austin Powers film (with Moon Unit Alpha and Moon Unit Zappa).  Fortunately, Wikipedia has a set of movies set on the Moon. In the AI section, which persisted throughout the episode, actually – “AI!” – the co-hosts talk about the 3D models created by Google's Gemini.  They also take a moment to consider the reported cybersecurity vulnerability discoveries from Anthropic's project Glasswing. Rounding out the episode for this week, the crew takes a look at the Android XR capability for turning 2D websites, apps and more into 3D experiences.  And a fun reboot of Wolfenstein 3D in  isomorphic form – though a bit of a challenge without remapping the keys. They explore the critical intersection of education and psychiatry, offering actionable advice for parents and educators navigating the teen mental health crisis. Key Takeaways Jo-Ann's Top 3 (The Educator's Perspective) ● Prioritize Sleep: Sleep isn't just about rest; it's the foundation for cognitive function and mood regulation. ● Limit Screen Time: Setting a "shutoff time" before bed is essential for both sleep hygiene and making room for "real life" interactions. ● Move & Go Outside: Encouraging students to "touch grass" and incorporate physical movement helps break the cycle of digital burnout. Dr. Fink's Top 3 (The Clinician's Perspective) ● Active Listening: Create space for kids to talk without immediately jumping in to fix or "tell." Be present rather than just preparing your next response. ● Emotional Validation: Respect their feelings, even if the trigger seems trivial to an adult. Validation is the necessary starting point for any productive movement forward. ● Collaboration Over Control: As kids grow, the goal should shift from managing their behavior to solving problems with them to build independence. From there, the episode moves through one of the most turbulent months in AI industry history, touching on corporate ethics, national security, hardware shortages, and ancient archaeology. AI Use at Work Is Causing “Brain Fry” A study from Boston Consulting Group and UC Riverside surveyed 1,500 full-time US workers and found that 14% experience what researchers call “AI brain fry” – mental fatigue from excessive AI tool oversight. Those affected report 33% more decision fatigue, 39% more major errors, and an increase in intent to quit from 25% to 34%. Notably, productivity peaks at one to three AI tools and drops off at four or more. Cochrane relates this directly to his own workflow, often running two to four tools side by side. However, he pushes back on the doom framing. He argues that context switching across multiple projects and rubber-stamping AI output without review are the real sources of fry. His takeaway: either work more slowly with greater intent, or use the accelerated pace to reclaim free time. Anthropic’s Wild Month: Exodus, Pentagon, and Mythos Claude sessions surged by roughly 1,487% from mid-January to early March, knocking ChatGPT off the top spot in the app store for the first time. ChatGPT uninstalls spiked nearly 300%, one-star reviews exploded 775% in a single day, and a boycott movement called “Quit GPT” has grown to between 2.5 and 4 million participants. The catalyst was OpenAI stepping in to take the Pentagon defense deal that Anthropic had publicly declined. Cochrane is firmly against automated domestic surveillance and autonomous weaponry, noting that the models are not reliable enough for such responsibilities. OpenAI tried to walk it back, but the Electronic Frontier Foundation called their language “weasel words.” Meanwhile, the Department of Defense slapped Anthropic with a supply chain risk label – a national security designation previously reserved for hostile foreign companies. Anthropic sued the Trump administration. Then Microsoft filed a legal brief in Anthropic’s defense, joined by 149 former judges, dozens of Google and OpenAI employees, and nearly two dozen retired generals. On top of all that, security researchers discovered an unsecured data cache exposing nearly 3,000 unpublished Anthropic files, including a model code-named Mythos (also called Capybara). Internal documents describe it as a step change in capabilities, scoring dramatically higher than Opus 4.6 on coding, reasoning, and cybersecurity. Then Anthropic’s source code leaked publicly as well. Sponsor: GoDaddy Economy hosting is $6.99/month, WordPress hosting is $12.99/month, and domains are $11.99. OpenAI Shuts Down Sora Video App OpenAI announced on March 24th that it is killing Sora, its AI video-generation app. Downloads cratered from 3.3 million in November to 1.1 million by February. The real numbers are brutal: Sora was costing roughly $15 million per day to run against a total lifetime revenue of just $2.1 million. The Sora web and app experience ends April 26th, with the API shutting down September 24th. Additionally, the Disney partnership – a billion-dollar deal meant to validate AI in Hollywood – collapsed completely. Deep fakes of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robin Williams appeared almost immediately despite guardrails, and both families protested publicly. Cochrane notes that competitors like Runway, Pika, and Kling are still operating, and suspects Hollywood will pivot to generating scene backgrounds rather than full content. OpenClaw Is a Security Nightmare Cochrane’s personal OpenClaw install started making outbound requests flagged by his ISP – with no changes or new skills installed. He shut it down and plans to wipe the device entirely. The broader picture is alarming. A January 2026 audit found 512 vulnerabilities in OpenClaw, eight critical. Twenty-six percent of community skills contain at least one vulnerability. Oasis Security discovered a vulnerability chain called “Clawjacked” where any website can silently take full control of a developer’s agent. Between March 18th and 21st alone, nine additional vulnerabilities were disclosed, several of which were rated 9.9 out of 10. Cochrane draws a direct parallel to the browser extension era: supply chain attacks hidden as helpful tools. Claude Code Auto Mode: AI Policing AI Anthropic published details on a new “auto mode” for Claude Code after finding that users approve 93% of permission prompts – essentially mashing “yes.” Auto mode replaces manual approvals with a two-layer defense: an input scanner to detect prompt injection and a second AI model that monitors the first and decides whether to allow each action. The safety checker can only see what the user asked for and what the AI is trying to do. It cannot see the AI’s reasoning, so the AI cannot talk its way past the check. However, Cochrane notes it still misses about one in six dangerous actions (17%), and the fundamental question remains: if the base layer can get infected, so can the checker. Qwen Overtakes Llama as Most-Deployed Self-Hosted LLM RunPod’s 2026 State of AI report, based on usage data from 183 countries, reveals that Alibaba’s Qwen has overtaken Meta’s Llama as the most popular self-hosted AI model. Llama 4 has barely been adopted, with users sticking to version 3 because it just works. Additionally, vLLM now powers 40% of all AI endpoints, NVIDIA’s latest GPU usage scaled 25x last year, and nearly 70% of AI image work runs through ComfyUI. Cochrane sees Qwen winning on merit and argues that is how open source should work. AI Data Centers Are Taking All the CPUs Too AI data centers are not just consuming GPUs and memory anymore – CPUs are now being strained too. Intel server CPU lead times have stretched from two weeks to six months. AMD typically occurs at 8 to 10 weeks. Server CPU demand is projected to jump 15% in 2026, but Intel’s output capacity is growing in single digits. The shift from chatbots to autonomous AI agents is changing the hardware ratio, since agents require far more CPU power to coordinate tasks and call tools. TSMC is prioritizing more profitable AI chips over regular CPUs. Cochrane warns that consumers and businesses are effectively subsidizing the AI boom through higher prices and longer waits. AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: First Dual-Cache X3D CPU AMD announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, the first CPU with dual-cache X3D technology. It arrives April 22nd with 208MB of total cache and a 200W TDP – up from the current model. However, AMD is unusually honest, calling the gains “modest,” ranging from 5-13% depending on the workload. Notably, they have not released gaming benchmarks, which is conspicuous for an X3D chip. Cochrane owns a single X3D chip and sees no reason to upgrade. ARM Launches “AGI” CPU After 35 years of licensing chip designs to Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung, and NVIDIA, ARM has launched its first production silicon: a 136-core server chip co-developed with Meta as the lead customer. ARM’s stock jumped about 16% on the news. You can pack over 8,000 cores in a single air-cooled rack, or over 45,000 with liquid cooling. Volume shipments begin by the end of 2026. Cochrane appreciates the move but calls the “AGI” branding marketing hype. The bigger story is ARM transitioning from blueprint designer to direct competitor against Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA in data centers – while still licensing to the companies it now competes against. Apple Discontinues the Mac Pro Apple removed the Mac Pro from its website and confirmed that no future model is planned. The $6,999 machine had not been updated since the 2023 M2 Ultra model. Apple is pointing professionals toward the Mac Studio with its M4 Ultra chip, with an M5 Ultra refresh expected later this year. They also discontinued the $700 wheels kit, $300 feet kit, and Pro Display XDR the same week. Cochrane says good riddance – the Mac Studio covers what 90% of users need. Apple’s AI Pin: An AirTag-Sized Wearable Reports suggest Apple is developing an AirTag-sized wearable AI pin with cameras, microphones, and wireless charging. It would clip to clothing or hang as a necklace, running as an iPhone accessory powered by an upgraded Siri with Google’s Gemini AI. A possible 2027 release is expected alongside iOS 27, though development is early and could be canceled. Cochrane ties this to a broader shift: data collection moving from the application layer to physical devices. Apple employees internally refer to the device as “the eyes and ears of the iPhone.” He warns that always-on wearable cameras, combined with existing AI-powered surveillance poles, are pushing society deeper into mass data collection without meaningful consent. Quantum Entanglement Speed Measured for the First Time Scientists at TU Wien’s Institute of Theoretical Physics, led by Professor Joachim Burgdorfer, measured how fast quantum entanglement happens for the first time. The answer: about 232 attoseconds – a billionth of a billionth of a second. The research was published in Physical Review Letters in late 2024 and is now circulating widely. Einstein called quantum entanglement “spooky action at a distance.” Turns out it is not instantaneous – just extraordinarily fast. This measurement technique opens the door to quantum cryptography and quantum computing. However, Cochrane clarifies: this does not mean faster-than-light communication. Entanglement links particles but does not transmit information through space. Bronze Age Iron Artifacts Came From Outer Space Geochemical analysis by French scientist Albert Jambon, originally published in the Journal of Archaeological Science in 2017, confirmed that virtually all Bronze Age iron artifacts were made from meteorites. The artifacts span Egypt, Turkey, Syria, and China, including beads dating to 3200 BCE and the famous dagger from King Tut’s tomb, dating to around 1350 BCE. The story resurfaced after researchers published new findings this month on fragments of meteoritic iron weapons from China’s Sanxingdui sacrificial site. Bronze Age people lacked the technology to smelt iron ore, but meteoritic iron arrived in a metallic state, ready to be forged. Cochrane closes the episode, noting that ancient civilizations were working with extraterrestrial material before they could produce their own iron – resourcefulness that deserves respect. Cochrane wraps up the show by thanking GoDaddy for over twenty years of partnership and reminding listeners to subscribe, sign up for the newsletter, and reach out via email. Special Edition: How Financial Advisors Should Be Thinking About AI

The truth is, most financial advisors know they should be using AI. Very few know where to actually start. Too many tools. Too many platforms. Too much noise. But the advisors who take the time to learn it now will have a significant edge over those who wait. In this special edition of Advisor Talk, Frank LaRosa is joined by Chief Information Officer Sue Cheema, Chief Marketing Officer Brian Lutz, Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy Wade Shields, and co-host Stacey Frank for a wide-ranging roundtable on what AI actually means for financial advisors today. The group breaks down how advisors can use AI to grow their business, serve clients more effectively, and free up time, including how to build custom GPTs, craft better prompts, and choose the right platform for the right task. They also address the bigger picture: what AI will never be able to replace, why the human side of financial advising remains irreplaceable, and why advisors who ignore AI risk being left behind by the ones who embrace it. Frank and the team also discuss how AI is changing the way advisors should think about their brand, their marketing, and the client experience, and why the advisors who lean into what AI cannot do will be the ones who win long term.   Questions answered in this episode include: Will AI replace financial advisors? How should a financial advisor start using AI in their practice? What is the difference between ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini? What is a custom GPT and how can advisors use one? What is prompt engineering and why does it matter? How is AI changing financial advisor marketing and branding? We challenged Deric to keep up an Irish accent for the whole show, he didn't even last three seconds. We kick things off with a reality check on the recent windstorms that turned our backyards into obstacle courses and honest landscapers into price gouging armies. Zac gets brutally honest about his latest project: XPS foam panel speakers. After being bought into the YouTube hype, he discovered that without a subwoofer and a $200 microphone, they sound less like high-fidelity audio and more like a musical birthday card.Meanwhile, Deric shares how he turned Gemini AI into a high-functioning shop assistant by uploading photos of burnt-out capacitors. Fixing a "dead" motor for 13 bucks and balancing water chemistry without the usual guesswork. In this episode, we also discuss:The Arborist "Opportunity": Why a split branch in the neighborhood suddenly costs $2,500 when demand is high. The Honda Fit "Clunk": Why Eric decided to "lube the bejesus" out of a strut mount bearing rather than spend $1,000 on a 16-year-old car.Dealerships vs. Online Buyers: Why online services often offer more for your trade-in than the local dealer ever will.Woodshop Cat: Deric's solution for a cat that decided the house rugs are its new litter box.Got questions? This week on Bros, Bibles & Beer, Andy McCraw, Zack Krater, and producer Colin dive into the theological firestorm surrounding Texas State Representative James Talerico.  Prompted by Allie Beth Stuckey's recent "demonic" label of Talerico, the guys put their own beliefs to the test with a provocative new segment: "Are You a Heretic?" Using a quiz powered by Gemini AI, the team explores the divide between traditional orthodoxy and Talerico's progressive "liberation theology."  From debating whether Jesus was a political revolutionary to deconstructing the "theology of consent" regarding reproductive rights, the conversation gets personal, heated, and deeply honest.  Also in this episode:  -The Allie Beth Stuckey Critique: Does labeling progressive Christians "demonic" go too far, or is she right to sound the alarm on "twisting" scripture?  -The Sovereignty of God: A breakdown of Stuckey's view on God's control vs. the guys' own experiences with deconstruction.  -Ozzy Osbourne & the Prince of Darkness: Why you can't always trust the media's portrayal of a person's faith.  -Vegas Trip & Satanic Spheres: Andy shares his "uncomfortable" experience with the dark visuals at a recent concert in the Las Vegas Sphere.  -The "Joy and Matt" Mystery: A strange, dark-web voicemail involves missing nail polish and a guy named Matt.
