The Fork In Your Ear Ep#221 "Author, Podcaster, Game Designer" - Podcast Show Notes & Summary 9-12-26   Quick Summary  Tim walks in barely held together and introduces himself as author, podcaster, and game designer — because he just dropped a playable HTML prototype of his Color Clash-inspired dual-grid RTS into the Fork Discord. The ring actually lands on Life first: Nate's kids demand VR mid-show, California is an air fryer, lane-splitters want six inches of courtesy, and both households are eating unexpected bills. Then the game firehose opens — Sony tells a courtroom that reasonable consumers know they don't own digital games, Xbox Cloud gets a 15-hour Ultimate cap, Nintendo dumps a Zelda 40th and a second Direct in two days, Ocarina of Time remake looks like a stop-motion maquette, Metroid Ravenous is metal as hell, and Kojima's canceled Sony IP is now an Xbox game. Entertainment is Coyote vs. Acme beating Warner Bros. at its own gag, Chad Powers season two sneaking back from the dead, Spider-Noir winning Emmys then getting canceled, and Nick Offerman as Big the Cat. Tech is Mac Studio M5 Max sticker shock, Apple's September event, the iPhone Duo foldable, and John Ternus's first week as CEO. Classic four-and-a-half-hour Fork: family chaos, Sony fumbles, Nintendo cooking, and Tim finally putting a game on the table.   Detailed Show Notes

Xbox Cloud Gaming is getting worse at the exact moment Microsoft wants xCloud on more devices. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are being capped at just 15 hours of cloud gaming per month, with even tighter limits for Premium and Essential — and we have some serious questions about what that says about Microsoft's cloud strategy. Then there's PlayStation. Sony's latest State of Play was a rough watch, even if a surprising number of the games shown are also headed to Xbox. We break down what went wrong, what actually looked good, and why Sony's showcase strategy continues to feel strange. Nintendo, meanwhile, is doing the opposite: two Nintendo Directs are coming, including a Zelda 40th Anniversary presentation, and expectations are already climbing. We also get into Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which is earning excellent reviews and has quickly become one of our favorite releases of the year; Halloween: The Game, IllFonic's latest attempt to break through in the asymmetrical horror genre; and The Blood of Dawnwalker, which is already celebrating strong reviews and major sales. Plus: Tim Schafer and Double Fine's bizarre post-Xbox independence video sends Luke over the edge, GTA VI is already moving PS5 and Xbox hardware, Xbox's disc-to-digital program gets even more interesting for handheld players, and we indulge in some TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan remaster speculation. Xbox Cloud Gaming limits. Sony State of Play. Nintendo Direct. GTA VI. Onimusha. Halloween. Double Fine. There is a lot to fight about this week. Clear takes. No console-war noise.

Black Friday's coming, your inbox is screaming deals at you, and you're trying to figure out: is this tech actually worth it, or will it be collecting dust by Valentine's Day? Joe Saul-Sehy, guest co-host CFP Anna Allem, and Neighbor Doug bring in Bridget Carey from CNET to cut through the holiday tech chaos. Bridget's spent her career testing gadgets, and she's here to tell you what's actually worth your money this season—from Nintendo's surprisingly strong lineup to handheld gaming devices like Steam Deck and Xbox Cloud that might replace your console. She also warns you away from AI-powered appliances that still feel like they're arguing with you instead of helping. Bridget breaks down the smart way to approach Black Friday and Cyber Monday without wrecking your December budget, which deals are real and which are manufactured hype, and why some tech gifts send a very specific message to your in-laws (and maybe not the one you want). Then the conversation shifts from tech temptations to investing platforms—specifically Robinhood. The confetti animations are fun, the interface is slick, but is it actually built for serious long-term investing? Joe and Anna dig into where Robinhood works, where it distracts, and why your retirement plan might need something more substantial than gamified stock trading and crypto side quests. Plus: Doug delivers Thanksgiving-adjacent trivia, and the crew takes a nostalgic detour through Skip-Its and Long Furbys that'll fuel your next holiday gathering conversation. What You'll Walk Away With: • Bridget Carey's insider guide to which holiday tech deals are legit and which are overhyped garbage • The best gaming and gadget gifts this season (from someone who actually tests this stuff for a living) • Why some AI appliances still feel like expensive beta tests you're paying to debug • Smart strategies for Black Friday and Cyber Monday that don't demolish your December budget • The honest truth about Robinhood: where it shines and where serious investors should look elsewhere • How investing platforms subtly influence your behavior—and whether that's helping or hurting you • How to stay grounded when shiny objects (tech or financial) start calling your name This Episode Is For You If: • You're staring at Black Friday ads wondering which deals are actually worth it • You want tech gift advice from someone who isn't trying to sell you something • You've been using Robinhood and wonder if it's actually helping your long-term investing goals • You're curious whether the flashy features on investing apps are making you a better or worse investor • You need a reality check before holiday spending turns into January regret Before You Hit Play, Ask Yourself: What's the worst tech purchase you've ever made? Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Is It Still Worth It? # 464

The inevitable has occurred for Xbox gamers, as now the "Best Deal in Gaming" Xbox Game Pass Ultimate skyrockets up in price by 50% to $30 a month in the United States, and even more in other regions. PC Game Pass went up to $16.50 as well. The question now is, is it still worth it? Well, the rush to cancel Game Pass was big enough to crash the cancellation page. Is this the sign of the end? Or is it once again a lot of grandstanding to wind up returning? Sean and Marc discuss their thoughts on the situation, and could Call of Duty be the biggest reason for this change? The dooming did not end there as another rumor quickly began to spread that Microsoft would be introducing a free ad tier of Xbox Cloud and even be done with hardware entirely, which Microsoft actually came out and refuted. Will Xbox actually have a console in 2027/2028? Or are we just waiting for more bad news down the line? Plus, aside from all of the Xbox stuff, the PS5 Dualsense may get a replaceable battery, Rock Band 4 is delisted from digital storefronts, the Golden Joystick Awards made some interesting nominee choices, and a whole lot more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX!You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/SpPJoxWZKeYListen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... Nintendo finally announces new hardware! However it's not what you might have been hoping for, unless you wanted a new device to watch you sleep. That's right, the Alarmo was announced by Nintendo, and although not a video game itself, it certainly has an effect on video game culture with all of the Nintendo nostalgia this alarm clock packs. It's an interesting way to ensure hardware sales for the holiday, and we talk about this and much more news, including a gigantic hack and subsequent leak of a major Nintendo partner. All this and more round out another week of the longest running video game podcast, Orange Lounge Radio!   Also in the News:   * Steam Updates Purchase Language in Likely Response to AB2426 * Xbox Cloud Streaming Soon to Expand * Alien Isolation Sequel Confirmed * Red Dead Redemption Finally on the way to PC   All this and more on the show where EVERY gamer has a voice-- Orange Lounge Radio!
