You're invited to join others at the Curiousity In Action: A Conference In Doing, for a full day of unique and immersive experiences highlighting the intersection of wellness and creativity.Conference participants will use curiosity to discover how creation is a form of self-care and how art-making is inherently therapeutic and spend the day with us making, thinking, connecting, creating, and just… being. We invite you to the first biannual Curiosity in Action: a conference for doing. What's a “Conference for Doing?” Well, it's exactly what it sounds like: taking the conference framework and making it actionable.Part of the aim in building a “conference for doing” is to offer all participants the opportunity to “try on” the ideas that are being shared by our presenters, so the day will follow an adult learning model that incorporates three elements: information, practice, and reflection. Each session will include all three pieces and they will repeat in this pattern:INFORMATION – Encouraging, thoughtful, and creative ideas will be shared by dynamic presenters during the large group sessionsPRACTICE – Immediately following each presentation, attendees will be invited to engage a personal practice that allows them to work with the content offered in the presentation. Prompts will be provided and attendees may engage them in any way that is most helpful to them – maybe you take a quick walk outdoors and think about the prompt, maybe you'd prefer to find a quiet place to be still, or maybe you borrow a friend for a brief chat. REFLECTION – All conference attendees will be divided into Reflection Groups that will gather after the brief “practice” time to continue their learning in community. Each reflection group will be facilitated by trained hosts who guide conversations and activities to help the group dig deeper into the “information” offered by the presenter(s).CURIOSITY IN ACTION- A CONFERENCE IN DOINGOverview, April 26, 2025, 9:00 am - 5:00 p @ Saugatuck Center for the ArtsCost | $125.  INFO + REGISTRATION: https://sc4a.org/SC4A Mission-the  SC4A is an arts center with a difference. It's hard to show up publicly at times, sharing your work, giving of yourself to others. It can be even harder given the places we mostly show up online today. But Brad Montague is here to lead a joyful rebellion—one for creatives, artists, and humans of all kinds, both kids and (in Brad's terms) former kids. And here's here to show us that celebrating failure is part of the process of doing meaningful things.Brad is a New York Times bestselling author of books for kids and former kids alike. He's also a speaker and creator of the web series Kid President which took the world by storm years ago and was the first viral video I shared to all my friends instantly. His books, which he writes and illustrates with his wife Kristi, include The Fantastic Bureau of Imagination, The Circles All Around Us, Becoming Better Grownups, and his most recent, Failabration. In our episode, Brad shares a delightful story in verse about the "dumpster fire" we always talk about, and a little girl who is skeptical, hopeful, and brave.Brad and I discuss why his style of communicating matters, how humor cuts through defenses, the difference between speaking to an audience of children versus adults, and how we can let our audience know, instantly, “You're in good hands.” Connect with Brad on his website, Instagram, and LinkedInGrab a copy of Brad's booksWatch the video I mention at the top of the episode, Kid President's Pep Talk ***IMPROVE YOUR SPEAKING + STORYTELLING: Subscribe to my newsletter and learn more about me at jayacunzo.comWork with me one-on-one: jayacunzo.com/servicesBook me to speak: jayacunzo.com/keynotes***CONNECT:Follow me on LinkedIn, Instagram, or BlueskyThis episode was produced by Ilana NevinsCover art designed by Blake Ink***ABOUT ME:I help business leaders become stronger speakers and storytellers. The goal isn't to get in front of your audience. The goal is to ensure they care. While others agonize over reach, your ability to resonate helps you compete on the influence of your ideas, not the volume of your marketing. With my clients, I help clarify + differentiate their message, craft their thinking and expertise into a distinct premise and IP they own, and develop signature speeches, frameworks, and stories to influence, inspire, and drive results. After making a name for myself as an early advocate for quality and storytelling in content marketing at brands like Google and HubSpot, I've partnered with orgs like Mailchimp, Salesforce, Wistia, and GoDaddy and consulted dozens of authors, entrepreneurs, execs, and creators on their storytelling, messaging, and public speaking.I live in the Boston area with my family as a proud Yankees and Knicks fan (yes, I'm in enemy territory). The Friday ReFresh

Welcome in to the Friday Refresh brought you you by the Adventures of Ben and Travis and the WorryCoaster children's book. Written by myself and Travis Creasy and expertly illustrated by our friend and brother, Jacob Hennigan. It is a feel good story of how to overcome anxiety and fear with a section in the back for parents, youth workers and teachers with helpful hints to keep the conversation going. Go to BenandTravis.com/books for more information. Challenge Youth Conference (www.cyconline.com) weekend is back again. For over 25 years this conference has taken place in the Smoky Mountains. For many years now it has been in the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge and there have been close to 14,000 attendees some years. Our congregation will have over 40 in attendance this weekend and other congregations will have 100. Travis and I get to do some crazy activities and videos to get the event started and then we also participate in S.W.A.T. (Skits With A Truth) team. Most people who have attended, whether adults or teenagers, have found the weekend to be encouraging in their faith and they often leaved challenged to live a bold life for Christ. The speakers this year include Chris Miller, Lonnie Jones, Brad Montague, Craig Evans, and David Shannon. All men who will challenge listeners to live to a higher standard. The theme this year is Look Up! An easily relatable theme when in the smokies mountains of East Tennessee. If you need fresh inspiration and real-talk motivation for your prayer life today, this episode is for YOU! What We'll Cover: What we miss out on by seeing life as only good OR hard. How we can become better, instead of bitter, from our suffering The surprising ways that Jesus defined “blessedness” and what it means for our pain The opportunity we have to reframe painful limitations as the places of ultimate freedom Treasures in the Dark: 90 Reflections on Finding Bright Hope Hidden in the Hurting by Katherine Wolf: https://hopeheals.com/treasures “It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses This Is a Joyful Rebellion! by Brad Montague - https://youtu.be/Pp_gxJspWEI?si=K7Uf_qvq9EAXVY-e My Benediction for The Good/Hard Life May you see life as a good/hard story that God is writing. May you open your hands to release old dreams and receive new ones. May you find the miracle you've been looking for has been right in front of you all along. May you accept the stunning capacity you have to endure because of Jesus, who endured for you. May you live out the hardest parts of your story with a joyful rebellion against the darkness. May you believe the boundary lines around your life are good and pleasant because God uniquely assigned them to you. Parents often worry about how to raise their children to be “good people.” But there's an assumption that once you're an adult, you're done “growing”, and no longer need to progress on that journey to being a better version of yourself.  Brad Montague, author of “Becoming Better Grownups”, says we can counter that notion in a unique way… in a world which can seem increasingly childish, he says we should become more childlike.

In this new world of war, recession, pandemics, etc., it's difficult to have a normal, settled mind, and so acts of kindness are slowly fading away. The woke mindset and people's selfishness are creeping in and killing our societies. But we are still humans, no matter how nonchalant we pretend to be; we all need someone to lean on.  There is opportunity for positive change, and it starts with us. We can become better people. How then, can we do that? How can we all work together to promote and spread kindness and imagine the best future for each other? Returning for his second appearance on Change Starts Here, Presented by FranklinCovey Education, Brad Montague, a New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, joins host Dustin Odham to talk about his books and a new project about spreading kindness, and how we can all get out of our heads and just perform that act of kindness. You can check out Odham and Montague's last discussion here. "We are all humans that want to be loved, and when you approach life from that place, you see yourself and others in that way, and it helps you to be bold and also gentle, and that leads to seeing every person as someone who needs some care. You can give or say something that'll add a little something to somebody's day, and that should give you hope, " Montague stated. Odham and Montague discussed:What Montague had been working on for the past two years since he's last been on the podcast How Montague helps people get over the edge of thinking too muchMontague's book on imagination and how it can help people rekindle their imaginationMontague also discusses treasures from writing his book, hosting his show, or meeting people, that he continues to share with others:"We all get this moment of, 'I should do that thing for somebody,' just like everything from getting a card, to sending someone a note, to let them know you are thinking of them... can sometimes feel ridiculous because you are like, ‘What else am I going to say? I was thinking of you?' Is this going to be creepy or sort of uncomfortable? Is it going to be funny? It must be really awkward. If these impulses are rooted in love, they are worth acting on because it's going to matter to someone," Montague said. "I think a lot of times we use our imagination to dream of the worst possible outcomes, the ways it could all go wrong. Our imagination is the most beautiful thing, as it always makes us dream of possibilities, and yet we've misused it to worry, to think of the worst of what you could do or who you are. When we use it to imagine the best possible future for each other, then it becomes a thing that is irresistible," Montague added. Brad Montague is the co-creator of Kid President, the internet sensation featured on Soulpancake's YouTube channel. As a writer and director, his work has received over 900 million views, translated into numerous languages, and captured the attention of celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Beyonce', and even the Obamas. His encouraging work as an illustrator is seen and shared daily online. Montague is the driving force behind 'Socktober,' a worldwide annual drive that connects people with local homeless shelters, and 'Wondersparks,' free classroom resources that foster empathy and imagination.

He lives in Tennessee with his wife and kids. Becoming Better GrownupsWhen his first book tour ended, Brad Montague missed hearing other people's stories so much that he launched what he dubbed a Listening Tour. First visiting elementary schools and later also nursing homes and retirement communities, he hoped to glean new wisdom as to how he might become a better grownup. Now, in this playful and buoyant book, he shares those insights with rest of us --timeless, often surprising lessons that bypass the head we're always stuck in, and go straight to the heart we sometimes forget. Each of the book's three sections begins with the illustrated story of "The Incredible Floating Girl." Brad weaves this story together with lessons of success, fear, regret, gratitude, love, happiness, and dreams to reveal the true reason we are here: to fly, and to help others fly.Beautifully designed and featuring Montague's own whimsical 4-color illustrations that appeal to the kid in all of us, Becoming Better Grownups shares the purpose and meaning we can all discover merely by listening, and reveals that--in a world that seems increasingly childish--the secret to joy is in fact to become more childlike.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As we continue to unpack the Connector Storytelling Type, we would be remiss to not include one of our favorite Connectors…Mr. Brad Montague. If you've been around the STORY community for a while, you are very familiar with his genus. Brad is an incredible creator and storyteller who approaches all of his work with a vision for making the world a better place. Whether it's through his book, Being Better Grown-ups, his wildly successful Kid President video series, or his critically acclaimed children's book, The Circles All Around Us, Brad's passion for guiding people together is deep and compelling. We dug back into the archives, and found this talk from STORY 2018 because as timely as this talk about the future was back in 2018, it's still applicable - possibly even more so - in 2022. There are so many unknowns, uncertainties, disconnections, and fears swirling around these days, but  despite the crushing weight of all these uncertainties, there is still hope because we choose to remember it exists. What are the milestones that you feel you need to reach before your life feels complete and ordered? How would you like to be remembered after you are gone? What would you risk if you could achieve the life you imagine that your heroes live or lived? Kate asks questions such as these, and more, so that she keeps the inevitability of death close enough to challenge and push her into a more full and aware life today. Following the death of several friends, Kate experienced grief, fear, anxiety, and then liberation from the weight of these feelings by opening herself to death. What are the messages that Kate want you to take away from this conversation and reading her book? 1. Enjoy your life and have fun every day; 2. Remembering your death is the ultimate deadline to motivate you; and 3. Remember that we are souls and we can live the life we desire, if we begin that journey. From a natural curiosity that sent her into a professional work life at the innovation and idea hub of Google, Kate departed the road that many desire into the life that brings her a sense of empowerment, discovery, and wholeness. Though the whole shift emerged from a confrontation with her grief and the motivation to make life matter. We discuss the path to mortality awareness, the cultural issues with framing death, the need to explore other cultures to understand the blessings of the culture of your birth and the limitations, post-traumatic stress & post-traumatic growth, the practice of mortality awareness, and enjoying your life. Bio: Kate Manser is the creator of YOU MIGHT DIE TOMORROW, a radical movement to inspire people to really live before they die.
