Something admired has been out in the world for roughly 3 months and I can't be more proud and excited about what has transpired. I always feel the need and desire to honour something once it has been brought to life and in the different stages, something evolves. I used to always throw birthdays for passion projects or milestones and today is one of them. I would love to share a recap on how these past 3 months have been for me personally and what has been evolving behind the scenes here at Something Admired… Firstly, I landed back in the states after almost 2.5 years of being in Australia and was unable to come to visit my family or friends. It's been almost 2 months here and it's been so special to reconnect with everyone I love and cherish so deeply as well as bask in the presence of the mountains, ocean, and rivers! I come back and a majority of my close friends have had babies and almost everyone I am surrounded by here is a flower farmer that is the ultimate gift to witness and partake in the picking. Over the past few months, we have been…Farm sitting (Sweet mountain top / Palomar Farm) The farmer's market weekly haul Working freelance for a handful of brands in the realm of art direction, social media, photography, modelling, and copywritingRekindled with family I haven't seen since childhoodLots of dinners and long coffee dates And in honour of Something Admired the past 3 months have been a melting pot of lots of learning, curiosity, and sitting with a constant stream of questions… So what has transpired is… 16 podcast recordings (1+ weekly) every Friday 2,700 downloads With the most loved episode being ‘Cultivating Creativity and Building a Business You Love with Annie Tarasova” and the second most listened too ‘The Future of Sustainable Gardening with Charles DowdingWhat has worked… Recording bulk content to roll out a few months in advance Investing in a good microphone (I bought the yeti blue off of amazon) Keeping organised with each recording, filing them and recording each intro right after the recording so it's still fresh. Schedule interviews when you are ovulating LOLOrganic conversation, yes have some planned questions but also allow the conversation to unfold by their responses. Actively listen and ask questions from there. Mistakes or things I would have done differently…Create an organised calendar to send to each person so they can pick a slot time that is available rather than lots of back and forth Hone in on specific people or focuses I am aiming for rather than asking anyone and everyone for an interview Allocate time in my week each week to record, edit, and schedule each podcast so it feels less all over the placeVideo, share more video and in-person interviews!

Grief is a way of loving that which has slipped from view and love is a way of grieving that which is not yet done so. In today's episode, I am speaking with Stephen Jenkinson who is a storyteller, activist, author, and farmer. He graduated from Harvard University with a master's degree in theology as well as a master's degree in social work from the University of Toronto. His journey thereafter led him in and out of palliative care and hospice organisations. He is renowned for his workshops and teachings that accompany him around the world and is the founder of the Orphan Wisdom School. Grief is something I have always felt close to yet a difficult sensation to sit with and here in the Southern Hemisphere it is the season of grief, Autumn invites this elder to dine with us in a way we are not culturally used to or taught to welcome. Tending to grief is a lifelong task, one that you must stay close to. May it be the letting go of old parts of yourself, that feeling when night sets in and that day has ended, or even the simplest way a conversation ends. There are many ways to grieve and tis the season to befriend this backbone that sets its twin flame, love, free.In This Episode We Explore:Grief as a way of loving what is The architecture of grief Human freedom and the future of connection Ways to honour rite of passages The connection animals play on farms and how that connects us to life / deathStephen's perspective on the state of the world and how to be with thisResources:Orphan Wisdom SchoolBooks MusicFilms
Today, I will be exploring the topic of cultivating a deeper connection to the kitchen and some tools and resources to inspire you. A kitchen is a place of refuge for me as it satiates my internal and external cravings. It's one form of working my muscle of creativity and expressing myself through different dishes, teas, ferments, stews, and long table dinners. You can often find me multitasking between cooking one meal, tasting another, soaking grains for the next meal, all the while wading through the kitchen in my velvet slippers and dancing to some old album. It is truly a sight to see ut something that I have learned to cultivate over the years. Like every other relationship, the kitchen works if you work it, and it desires affection, space, attention, and cocreation. There is the kitchen and then there's you, but there is also this space between you and the kitchen and that is where the magic truly happens. Nobody really questions how a few eggs, oil, flour, water, and spices become a cake, it's alchemy and essentially you are the midwife that gets to bring this to life. You can spend years afraid to step foot into the kitchen for fear of messing up or the vast pressure to create something exquisitely magical so you neglect the one place we all have the potential to excel. These next words may sound funny, but begin by giving your kitchen a name for just today. I like to call mine Gertrude, maybe a homage to my great-grandma and her love of baking, so go ahead think of a name and introduce yourself. Greet your pots and pans with a firm handshake, and begin. We are all born fluent in the language of the kitchen yet sometimes we just need to be reminded how simple it truly is.

Today I wanted to share a few things that have been inspiring me lately along with a little resource guide to navigating the change of seasons. This is always a beautiful time to reflect, take inventory, and connect with what resources you. Here in the southern hemisphere we are descending into Autumn and finding our place in the darker half of the year and for those in the northern hemisphere, you are just emerging into Spring as life is expanding. A beautiful place to start with nourishing a relationship to the seasons is noticing your surroundings and what is changing. For me, this is watching my garden change colour and allowing what was once colourful and full of life to gently go to seed and allow what's left as an offering to the birds and the microorganisms hungry for life below. It's the early morning sun that greets my bedroom window at holy hours, and the feeling of crisper air on my lips as I sip my warm tea. I quite enjoy this time of year as it invites me to see change as something that is life-giving and beautiful. It is also a time to harvest what the seasons prior have gifted both physically and metaphorically. I love to reconnect with different tools and practices throughout this season as I tend to have a deeper desire for nourishment and routine to keep my internal light aflame. Practices that you may find nourishing during a change in season or for any change you may be experiencing for that matter could be...Morning pages or moon pagesWalking and taking in all the elements with your sensesPrayer and meditation Starting a weekly dinner party or circle Cooking with what's in seasonGrounding and breathe Taking inventory, setting goals, and action steps Here are a few updates in my world and a few ways I am connecting with this seasonal change...Spending more time in the kitchen soaking grains and making bread Tea, thyme and gingerThe first blueberry buckle of the season along with corn cooked on the firePicking the last of the seasons flowers and letting our garden turn to rest The intimacy of friendships and honouring each other's growth Slow morning walks and noticing the smells Long baths with raw milk, baking soda, honey face masks, and magnesium. Rediscovering the books ends of my day, how do I rise and rest? Grounding practices, meditation, walking Rediscovering my authentic self through different mediums
