Doch die Geschichte dieses Songs, der aus der Feder von Mike Rutherford stammt, beginnt weitaus bescheidener auf dem 1980er Album Duke.Was zunächst als einer von vielen Tracks auf Duke erschien, entwickelte sich zu einem der definierenden Songs der Band. Der treibende Rhythmus, der sich durch verschachtelte Taktarten auszeichnet – wir hören hier einen faszinierenden 13/8-Takt – wurde unter der Expertise von Phil Collins‘ Schlagzeugspiel zu einem unwiderstehlichen Groove verfeinert.Besonders interessant ist die thematische Ebene: Der Text erzählt von einem Menschen, der seine sozialen Kontakte durch das Fernsehen ersetzt – ein Thema, das in unserer Zeit der sozialen Medien und Streaming-Dienste aktueller denn je erscheint. Rutherford war seiner Zeit damit weit voraus.Live wurde der Song im Laufe der Jahre immer mehr zum Publikumsmagneten ausgebaut.
