This season on my podcast, Baring It All with Call Me Adam, I am highlighting My Entertainment Idols.Today, I am going back in time and Behind-The-Curtain to bring you this blast from the past, my 2010 interview with Jo Dee Messina, 2-time Grammy Award nominee, and Country Music Superstar. In this interview, Jo Dee is Baring It All with Call Me Adam about:Whom she still wants to work withThe best advice she's given, but not taken for herselfWho she would dream about while sleepingIf she ever thought about quitting musicSo much moreFor the print edition of this interview, and see some photos of Jo Dee with me and my dad, click here! Now, here's a little Behind-The-Curtain Story….In 2010, Jo Dee was embarking on her most intimate tour to date, the Music Room Series Tour, where she left the big stadiums behind, and came to smaller clubs and venues, like her NYC stop at Michael Feinstein's cabaret club Feinstein's at the Regency.I was very fortunate to get a pair of press tickets to see the show, and interview Jo Dee right after. The kindness Jo Dee showed me during and after the interview is something I have never forgotten. She took her time answering my questions, even though there was a crowd of people waiting for her at the VIP after party. She made me feel as if I was the only person she had to talk to that night. After we were done, she let me take a picture with her, and then, asked my dad if he wanted a picture with her, and told him to come up to take one. We truly felt like royalty being with Jo Dee.Here's an additional Behind-The-Curtain story for you…When I started recording the interview on my phone, Jo Dee asked if this was going to be published as an audio interview or in print format. At that time, I didn't have a way to share the audio, but now, all these years later, I do, and it's through this podcast. So, as you listen to this interview, I hope you feel all the excitement, fun, and laughter we had together. Surprising Ways to Find Connection in a Lonely Space: Jo Dee Messina & Larry Randolph and Jennifer Bleakley

Jesus Calling: Stories of Faith

One of the most fulfilling aspects of our lives is the opportunity for connection. We were not designed to live life on our own, but today's world makes it so easy to be self-focused instead of others-focused. John 13 tells us we should love one another as Christ loved us and “…by this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” When we ask God to show us places we can connect to others, we will begin to reap the many benefits of those bonds, and also find ways to bless others as well.  Country music trailblazer Jo Dee Messina is known for her chart-topping hits, but in the process of building her legendary career, she found that everything she'd built was crumbling, mostly because she'd tried to do it on her own. That's when she found God (or actually, He found her), and she began to see the importance of connection with Him, which in turn led her to see her music as her connection point to the world. Founder of Canines for Christ Larry Randolph and author Jennifer Bleakley found ways to connect with their faith through their animal friends, and they share how help and hope is brought to the world through the gift of therapy dogs.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Walker Zimmerman Upcoming interview: Jordan Davis Samaritan's Purse: https://sampur.se/44HesSt    Jo Dee Messina  Steve Green “Just To Be Loved”   Larry Randolph Jennifer Bleakley National Dog Day Canines for Christ American Kennel Club  American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizens certification Finding Grace   Interview Quotes: “I think at the very end of myself is where in my spirit, in my soul, I sensed Jesus saying, ‘She's mine.'” - Jo Dee Messina “For me to connect with the fans is more of a humanities thing, being able to have compassion and empathy for someone else's situation, which just happens to be the same as mine.” - Jo Dee Messina “I was a hot mess. I built a kingdom on my own, I watched it crumble, and even at the very end of that—when everyone else was running away—[God] was running towards me.” - Jo Dee Messina  “Looking back, I can see how God planted seeds in my heart that day that would one day sprout into a career of writing books and stories about all the beautiful ways God works through animals to direct people's hearts and minds to Himself.” - Jennifer Bleakley “[God] had planned for me all along to have this dog in my life, this basset hound named Gus, to set up what was going to happen next for me, and that was to create a ministry using therapy dogs.” - Larry Randolph   “[A dog] can just put a little paw up on somebody's hand or in a wheelchair or give somebody a little kiss on the cheek, and wag that tail, and all of a sudden you see the loneliness stop and the sadness just go away. And it's beautiful to see how the dogs can just bring that out. It's just that beautiful way of sharing the powerful love of Christ.”- Larry Randolph “It's so kind of God to provide dogs to step in when people have been hurt by other people. And then here's a beautiful dog that's able to enter into their heart where maybe another person could not, and help them experience the love of God, the tenderness of God, the faithfulness of God.” - Jennifer Bleakley  “If you listen to God and you obey Him, you take one step forward, God will be there with you through the steps and He will guide you through it and amazing things can happen.” - Larry Randolph  “Just that practice of having an animal sit with you as you sit with the Savior, and a tangible reminder that we're never truly alone, that God Almighty, the God of all comfort and hope, is with us. And I think that is just one of the many, many gifts that our animals can give us. It's really an invitation to see ourselves in this story and to ask and to ponder, What might God be asking me to do?” - Jennifer Bleakley ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! The purpose of this podcast is to highlight the journey and grind musicians go through trying to make it in the industry; the journey most fans don't see leading up to national success. People move to music city from all over the country to chase something they have only dreamed of – making music and performing for a living. This podcast will dive into stories on the road, late nights and early mornings on the infamous Broadway, their background story, and if there is an ultimate goal for each artist or band. The artists featured on this podcast don't have the backing of a label or sometimes even management, or a publishing team to handle their bookings, travel, etc.… But what they all have in common is a genuine passion for the love of music and performing. There is hidden talent spread throughout music city and the aim of this podcast is to give this hidden talent an opportunity to have a platform for an audience to hear their story, what the process is really like in the industry, and hopefully gain a new fan or two.    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.   Today is Thursday, June 29  The “King Coal” documentary debuts at the Culture Center next month…Brad Smith is takingAscend West Virginia to a new level with two vertical programs…and ya gotta Regatta! The festival kicks off tomorrow in Charleston…on today's daily304. #1 – From WV EXPLORER – “King Coal,” a feature-length documentary by West Virginia-raised and Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Curren Sheldon and Elaine McMillion Sheldon, makes its home-state premiere at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston next month. The West Virginia International Film Festival presents the event at 6 p.m. July 8. The event includes the 75-minute film screening, a live Q&A discussion with filmmakers, food, and music. The film is rated "Y" and is appropriate for families and children. A lyrical tapestry of a place and people, “King Coal” meditates on the complex history and future of the coal industry and the communities it has shaped. The film remixes present-day moments of life in the coalfields with archival footage and atmospheric invocations of the land to alchemize something new — a rare, nuanced depiction of the community. Read more: https://wvexplorer.com/2023/06/20/king-coal-premier-at-charleston-west-virginia/   #2 – From WV NEWS – The Ascend West Virginia program soon will go to the next level, according to Brad D. Smith. Smith, the former CEO and later executive chairman of Intuit and the current president of Marshall University, and his wife, Alys, developed the program to attract remote workers to the Mountain State. Since launching in April 2021, the program has brought 142 new residents to the state, who in turn have brought 172 others with them. There have also been five brand-new West Virginians born. The program's success has inspired a pair of what Smith calls “vertical programs.” First Ascent will help recent West Virginia college graduates find remote work and placement in remote worker programs, while offering them the same sort of outdoor-based incentives to continue living in the state. Another program, Military Ascent, is designed to attract those who served our country to move to West Virginia. More details of the “vertical programs” will be announced during the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce's 2023 Annual Meeting and Business Summit at the end of August. Twenty-one-year-old Waylon Hanel is a self-taught musician and singer characterized by his textured vocals and endearing ability to captivate audiences. The Michigan native has quickly become recognized for his down-to-earth style, bold delivery and vivid storytelling. Named after country music legend Waylon Jennings (one of his biggest musical influences), Hanel is honing his skills to develop a vintage signature style of his own. His music and recordings are a testament to his unique, artistic individuality and powerful delivery well beyond his years.  In the five short years since Waylon launched his music career, he has performed as support act opening for Uncle Kracker, Trace Adkins, Chris Cagle, Elvie Shane, Tyler Farr and Jo Dee Messina among others. Waylon's 2023 tour schedule is fast approaching more than 75 show dates. He released his self-titled EP (WAYLON HANEL/Nov. 2022) featuring five original tunes and is poised to introduce his sophomore CD, NEW OLD OUTLAWS in June 2023. (“New Old Outlaws Rewind,” a re-recording of the original title track, is spotlighted as the bonus track and receiving early welcome and applause from country radio and its listeners in the US and abroad.) Last weekend I was at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, and I was so damn inspired by the performers I had the chance to listen to.Now- fun fact about me- I always wanted to be a country singer. Realized at a very young age that in order to do that, I would need to know how to sing... which I don't- so there's that.So instead, I grew up going to country shows and festivals. The sweet sweet sounds of Brooks and Dunn, Jo Dee Messina, and Garth run strong in my veins. I am a country girl to my soul, and if it's ok- I'd like to share some stories I heard last weekend.
