Today's Podcast guest, Lindsay Recknell, is a speaker, facilitator and mental health advocate who has experienced the power of hope firsthand and used it to create positive change in her life. Lindsay's work is all about helping others rediscover hope amid challenge – and teaching us how to use it to create radical positive change in our lives. As an expert in hope and a Certified Psychological Health & Safety Advisor, Lindsay works with organizations to increase their levels of psychological health & safety in the workplace using the Science of Hope – evidence-based, practical tips and techniques to increase levels of hope within organizations by increasing hope levels in individuals. She empowers individuals, strengthens teams and transforms organizations through her Hope Motivates Action, Mental Health in Minutes and Burnout & Boundaries programs. Lindsay lives in Calgary with her husband and their two Golden Retrievers. In today's episode, Lindsay shares her journey as a ‘serial entrepreneur' – from consulting, to partnering for Actionable Books, jumping into the wedding industry, and now owning her two businesses on the science of hope, and mental health for teams. In 2018, Lindsay experienced a cycle of burnout that caused her to crash and burn, in both her personal life and in her business in the wedding industry, because she was taking on too much at once. There was a moment where Lindsay recognized she was trying to play the hero and do everything for everyone – just like so many Female Founders – and it was time to take her cape off. Lindsay turned to learning something new in order to recover from the burnout: Positive Psychology and the Science of Hope – the realization that hope is not a made up ‘woo woo' thing within us, but is actually scientifically a part of our brain that pushes us forward toward towards amazing things. Lindsay's practical advice to other Female Founders is: don't cheap out on web design and development – just because you believe you can do all the things as an entrepreneur, does not mean you should! And her mindset advice is to have self-awareness. For Lindsay, it's important to be aware of her ‘shiny squirrel syndrome,' when she has so many ideas and wants to do all the things. Being aware of this allows Lindsay to stop and check-in, ask herself if she really needs to make a change, and gives her an opportunity to find new things within her business rather than creating a whole new business. You can find Lindsay on her website, Instagram, Facebook, or on LinkedIn. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/femalefounderfridays/message

The Boss Mom Podcast - Business Strategy - Work / Life Balance - -Digital Marketing - Content Strategy

The copywriting space is booming, but with so many writers from a ton of different industries moving into it, it's more important than ever before to set ourselves apart. Creating a personality for our brand is a great way to do that, but how can we make sure it still feels authentic to who we are?  Assuming a character helps keep us top of mind for our clients, but it's only effective when it fits in with our existing personalities. Is there a way to strike a balance between the two?  What can we do to ensure our work is a true reflection of us, our personalities, and our quirks?  In this episode, Co-Founder of The Copywriter Club and self-proclaimed Copy Chef, Kira Hug shares how to build a business by being unique. Three Things You’ll Learn in This Episode How to take the plunge into the copywriting pool: Copywriters get a lot of work opportunities from other copywriters, so get in the same room as them and start building genuine relationships. The great thing is, it’s easier than ever before to get into those rooms because so many have moved online. What makes copywriting essential in any business: Without the right words to express our brands and what we stand for, no one will hear our voices. Great copywriting makes it easier to stand out in a sea of competitors. Why business owners should have a working knowledge of copywriting: It’s easier to give direction or edit when necessary when we have a general understanding of the processes that go into copywriting. Knowing the basics is a valuable skill for any business owner to have, so take the time to learn more about it.    Guest Bio-  Kira Hug is a conversion copywriter who specializes in personality-driven launch copy. On today’s show, I speak with Shawn Hooper, the CTO of Actionable Books, a startup in the learning and development space.  Shawn is also a Camp Tech instructor. He fills us in on the current state of website security, as well as ways to prevent hacks and remedy your website once it has been compromised.     Hacking has become a widely publicized problem and is on the minds of most sites that operate businesses on the web; website security is an important facet of this. However, it is often overlooked or neglected simply out of ignorance. Whether you are hosting your own site, your site is hosted by an inexpensive service, or you’re working with Wordpress, there are always things you can do to beef up your security. Shawn soothes our fears and outlines extremely simple ways to not only avoid a hack, but also how to make sure that your website stays up and running in perpetuity.      Episode Highlights:    Why security matters  Wordpress’ unfortunate reputation and the benefits of hosting on that site  Why would someone hack your site?  Steps to preventing hacks  How to recognize a hack  What ransomware is and why it’s a growing concern  How to fix a site once it has been compromised    Shawn works from Camp Tech’s Ottawa location. Curiosity is important at any age. "There is something interesting about every person you interact with." -Chris Taylor The Cheat Sheet: What is a squiggly career and why is it a good thing? If it ain't broke don't fix it: should you follow this old adage? What is the Stockdale Paradox and why is it so important to success? How to be selfish in a conversation, in a good way. The one question to ask to cut through all the BS and get you to your end result. And so much more... (video) Have you stopped to consider why you make the choices you make in life? Are they simply a matter of programming and societal influence, or do they come from your personal values? Here to explore those topics (and more) is Chris Taylor. Chris is the founder of Actionable Books and the author of Beyond the Picket Fence. He joins us to talk about the three types of choices, including deliberate choice, and the true ROI of curiosity (if there is any). We delve into a few other subjects too on episode 385 of The Art of Charm. Click Here to Support The Show and Get 10% Off Onnit! (Direct Download) More About This Show: Over 6.5 years ago Chris founded Actionable Books, a web site with free summaries of books in the business, personal development and growth industries. Every month they publish 20 summaries of books and give that information away to the public, at no cost. Chris explains how he's created this as a business model and made a healthy living, as well as the role curiosity plays in success. He believes there is an ROI on curiosity and it should be explored while being coupled with drive and focus. When we explore unrelated areas of life, we often find breakthroughs and new insights we would never have found otherwise. But if we're always curious how do we balance that with enjoying where we're at in life and still maintain our drive to move forward? This is a fascinating question Chris sheds light on. There are three types of choices in life: unconscious, conscious and deliberate. The first, unconscious choice, is the type of choice we make that we don't even realize is a choice. We sign up for college because that's just what we do after finishing high school. Or we work 80 hours at our job because that's the way it's done. We don't think or explore another way of doing something, it's doesn't even occur to us that it is a choice that can be done in another way. The second is conscious choice. This is the type of choice where we do something because it's what is expected of us by society. We choose to work more hours because we want a certain type of car or we need to buy a house in a certain neighborhood; it's what we're expected to do so we make choices to make it happen. The third and final type of choice is deliberate choice. This is the topic of his book Beyond the Picket Fence and it's the type of choice we make based on our values and what's important to us in our lives. With these choices we are in tune with our values and how we want to live, how we want to spend our days. These choices are where we can balance enjoyment, contentedness with ambition and drive. With the deliberate choice we connect with what matters to us and chose from that space. Chris and I also talk about how to lean in and make a conversation great, how to find that special something in every person we talk to and how to ask for what you want in such a way that you get what you want, they get what they want AND they get something they didn't even know they wanted. Special thanks to Chris for making the deliberate choice to be here and thanks to you as well! We'll see you next time on The Art of Charm. THANKS CHRIS TAYLOR! Todays guest is a man on a mission to help the world self develop, progress, and move to a better future, all at a time and pace that is convenient for them. He started his first business at the age of twelve, and since then has travelled the world whilst pursuing his passion of leadership and team culture development on a larger scale. In 2008, he founded Actionable Books, which led to him winning in 2009 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, by using business books as a platform for leader and team growth. But knowing that by utilising technology, that is both easy to get and easy to carry around, he could grow his brand even further, in 2010 he went online, and launched actionable interviews where he has conducted interviews with such big thinkers such as Seth Godin, Susan Cain and Sir Ken Robinson. If this sounds like success after success, then think again, as with all entrepreneurs the story is one of success, failures, stumbles and falls. So lets bring onto the show to start joining up the dots of his life, the one and only,  Mr Chris Taylor. When you fail in business you have two choices. Get back on your horse, or give up. The good ones get right back on. My guest today, Chris Taylor of Actionable Books, has had the odd business failure. And each time he's been thankful for it and kept on riding. In fact, his latest business venture is a direct result of a business failing. To get back on his horse, Chris committed to reading 52 business books in 52 weeks, applying one lesson from each. Alas, Actionable Books was founded. And is now a thriving online business, that up until three months ago, was being run out of a cave in Spain! Press play for some marketing gold about content creation, content curation, embracing failure and living the location independent lifestyle.
