Listeners will discover how equanimity functions as a stabilizing force in our emotional lives. Margaret emphasizes that it allows us to experience deep compassion, loving-kindness, and joyousness without being overwhelmed by our feelings. By observing our reactions to the roadside scenarios—where a stranger elicits mild compassion, a neighbor stirs more involvement, and a best friend creates profound emotional turbulence—she elucidates the varying shades of our emotional engagement and the importance of a balanced response. Throughout the discussion, Margaret stresses the importance of "not self" (non-attachment) as a foundational practice for cultivating equanimity. This practice encourages us to observe situations with clarity and discernment, freeing us from being engulfed by our emotions. She also highlights that true compassion encompasses both emotional understanding and practical actions, such as offering assistance to those in need. Importantly, equanimity does not imply cold detachment; rather, it invites a mindful approach to life's challenges, providing us with the tools to navigate our emotions with grace.

On this week's episode of Sense, by Meg Faure, we dive into the incredible journey of early brain development. Our guest host, Tove Gant, joins us to explore how sensory stimulation shapes the human brain in the first thousand days. This episode is essential for parents keen on optimising their child's cognitive, emotional, and social skills. The Importance of Early Brain Development We discuss why the first thousand days of a child's life are crucial. Meg explains how sensory experiences significantly influence brain development during this period. Listeners will learn about the concept of neuroplasticity and how the brain remains moldable throughout life. Sensory Stimulation and Neuroplasticity Meg elaborates on how sensory inputs create connections between brain cells. She explains how sensory stimulation impacts the brain's development and the concept of "use it or lose it." Parents will understand the importance of providing varied sensory experiences to their children. Environmental Influence The conversation highlights the role of the environment in shaping the brain. Meg shares a compelling story about a child from Hong Kong who faced developmental delays due to limited environmental exposure. This example underscores the significance of varied and rich sensory environments. Emotional Engagement and Learning Meg and Tove discuss the impact of emotional engagement on sensory stimulation. Fun and happiness are crucial for effective learning. They explain how positive emotional interactions can foster better brain development and social skills. Balancing Stimulation and Overstimulation One of the key discussions is finding the right balance between stimulation and overstimulation. Meg emphasizes the importance of reading a baby's signals to avoid overstimulation. Parents learn how to provide appropriate sensory experiences without overwhelming their children. Many therapists are conflicted about how to show up with their clients. While there is lots of training to be highly emotionally engaged with clients, there is also training that therapists should be more distant in sessions to avoid possible countertransference––which is the evoking of emotions and reactions within the therapist. What if, instead of attempting to be overly engaged or maintaining a distancing demeanor, therapists learned how to honor their humanness within their therapeutic role? On this episode of Transforming Trauma, host Emily Ruth welcomes Karen J. Maroda, PhD., noted psychoanalyst and author, to discuss her fascinating research on countertransference. About Karen J. Maroda: Karen J. Maroda, PhD., is a psychologist/psychoanalyst practicing in Milwaukee, WI. She is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and sits on the editorial boards of The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Psychoanalytic Psychology, and Contemporary Psychoanalysis. The author of four books, her most recent one, titled "The Analyst's Vulnerability: Impact on theory and practice," has received wide recognition across theoretical originations because it focuses on the early childhood experiences of all psychotherapists. He talks about his latest book, 100 Proven Ways to Acquire and Keep Clients for Life, and how an elevated customer experience helps brands stand out amidst the competition. This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more: How can companies create elevated experiences at every touch point for their customers? How does the concept of "lifetime value" impact customer-focused decision-making? What's the significance of emotional engagement in driving customer loyalty and revenue? How can small, personalized gestures impact the customer experience? How does cultivating relationships with customers contribute to long-term profitability? Top Takeaways: There are four things that customers are looking for. They are looking for brands that are thoughtful, kind, caring, and empathetic. Understand your customers' lifetime value (LTV). By recognizing a customer's potential long-term value, businesses can make better customer-focused decisions that are less about the amount they spend on any single purchase and more about nurturing relationships, ensuring positive experiences, and understanding their needs. Small gestures and careful word choices matter. Businesses can make customers feel valued and respected by paying attention to details, like calling customers by their preferred names and avoiding generic follow-up messages. Even a simple gesture can leave a lasting positive impression, potentially leading to future business opportunities. Building relationships with customers helps businesses stand out in a crowded market. Creating emotional connections and nurturing long-term relationships drive revenue by de-commoditizing your products and strengthening customer loyalty. In this episode of The Actor's Career Compass, host Martin Bentsen delves into the critical concept of the 4 levels of acting, a framework designed to help actors gauge their performance skills and understand what casting directors seek. Martin begins by addressing the double-edged sword of acting's unstructured nature, highlighting how a lack of structure can foster artistic freedom yet simultaneously obscure an actor's ability to assess and improve their performance. He introduces a numeric system to categorize acting skills into four distinct levels, ranging from beginners making basic mistakes to elite performers who leave audiences in awe with their captivating and emotionally engaging performances. The episode breaks down each level in detail, offering insights into the common pitfalls and achievements characteristic of each stage. Level 1 actors face technical challenges, such as forgetting lines or failing to connect with the audience due to basic mistakes. Level 2 actors, though technically proficient, struggle with making their performances compelling due to unclear choices. At Level 3, actors achieve clarity and focus, yet their performances may lack emotional depth or engagement. Finally, Level 4 represents the pinnacle of acting, where performers make bold, emotionally charged choices that resonate deeply with audiences. Martin emphasizes the importance of aiming for at least Level 3 in auditions to stand a chance for callbacks and encourages actors to record and analyze their performances to identify areas of improvement actively. For those navigating the competitive world of acting, this episode serves as a practical guide to self-assessment and improvement, underlining the need for actors to make strong, clear choices in their performances, especially when audition details are scarce. Pascale --------------------- FULL TRANSCRIPT --------------------- Episode 331: 7 Levels Deep - Unveiling The Heart Of Your Goals Hello, beautiful souls. I am so grateful to have you on The Everyday Life Balance Show. I am your host, Pascale Gibon, here to guide you through episode 331, entitled: “7 Levels Deep: Unveiling the Heart Of Your Goals.” For those of you embarking on new goals this year, this episode will give you great insight. One of the most significant hurdles I see in achieving our goals is not knowing the motivation behind them - not knowing the ‘why' that breathes life into our aspirations and not having a reason or why that is big enough. Let me explain. Your WHY clarifies why it matters to you to achieve a particular goal and lights up the path toward your dreams. Let us take the example of a mother who embarks on an entrepreneurial journey from the comfort of her home. Her motivations might weave through the desire for financial freedom, gifting her family with memorable holidays, or perhaps seeing her husband retire from a job that no longer brings him joy. Another driving force could be the quest for the freedom that entrepreneurship promises. To truly identify the core of your ‘why,' I recommend the ‘7 Levels Deep' exercise. This exercise involves peeling back the layers of your motivations by asking yourself ‘why' seven times. This deep dive can reveal the heartfelt reasons behind your goals, making them more compelling and emotionally charged. Take pen to paper now, and let's do this exercise together. Identify your why by asking yourself why you want to accomplish your goal. You will notice that the bigger the why, the more emotionally engaged you are with it. If you have noticed a tendency to procrastinate or a lack of inspired actions towards the achievement of your goal, it is time to reflect: Ask yourself: Are you intimately connected with your ‘why'? Do you believe you can achieve your goal? Is your chosen goal a true reflection of your desires? Could a sense of comfort be dampening your urgency to act? On the last question, remember that deadlines can be powerful catalysts for action. They instil a sense of urgency that can significantly accelerate our journey towards goal achievement. Reflecting on my journey, setting a deadline for the draft of my first book propelled me to completion. So, I invite you, dear listeners, to explore the depth of your 'why.' Indeed, explore the true motivator behind your aspirations by asking yourself 'why' seven times. Whether your goal is to launch a business, write a novel, or travel the globe, discovering the underlying 'why' can transform your approach to goal achievement. If you struggle to identify the driving force behind your goal, it could indicate that the goal does not align with your authentic self. As a result, you may look for external excuses to explain your unmet achievements. In closing, let this episode lead to a profound exploration of your goals, especially if you procrastinate. I hope it will inspire you to align your aspirations with your deepest desires, propelling you towards a life of fulfilment and purpose. Thank you for joining me on this journey. Until next time, embrace the power within, illuminate your path with clarity, and step forward with courage and love. I am sending you lots of love and light.

Her professional path started as an elementary teacher who loved technology. As her story goes, she became incredibly burnt out long ago when there were no pathways to healing. Nobody wanted to talk about sad teachers, or so she was told. Although edtech and mental health might seem like completely different topics (they're not), they were her life for many years. She was a technology integrator and then a Director of Innovation and Technology, but she was trying to heal from the stress and strain of the classroom many years after she left it. Her goal was to help other people and advocate for policy change. She strives to be the mental health advocate that she needed years ago. By showing respect and understanding toward these differences, sales professionals can foster positive business relationships and open avenues for prospective sales within different markets. Boost Sales with Personalization Sales professionals can see a remarkable difference in their results with the strategic use of personalization. Tailoring the approach to each prospect's specific needs and circumstances forms genuine connections and stands out in a sea of generic pitches. Jeffrey Gitomer's insights on avoiding generic AI responses emphasizes the need for this tailored interaction, forming a central part of the modern selling process. Build Strong Relationships and Trust Establishing and nurturing trust with prospects plays a pivotal role in sustainable sales success, as emphasized by Jeffrey. Not only does this foster long-lasting business relationships, but it also facilitates in-depth understanding of customer needs and motives for buying. Moving from school to college or college to the first job marks significant milestones that shape our habits and preferences. This transition spawns the creation of new habits, both positive and negative, exemplified by choices such as smoking, drinking, and romance. These phases offer fertile ground for brands to establish themselves as part of these transformative experiences, thereby becoming ingrained in consumers' lives. The team at Nescafe used this insight to position coffee as the quintessential emblem of adulthood. As individuals traverse from one life stage to another, coffee emerges as a symbolic initiation into the world of grown-ups. Welcome to the first full episode of the Beyond Stereotypes mini-series. This series aims to breakdown the stereotypes and labels we put on ourselves and others, and that often surround activists and protestors. It's harder to dismiss, disparage, talk over and disrespect people if we get to know them as real human beings. It's a great first step toward someone with a differing view, and finding a common ground to build from. In this first episode of the series we talk Flo and Adrian, two activists who are part of a protest against a new housing development that is planned to be built on the fields between Bicester and Bucknell in Oxfordshire, England. The new village of Hawkwell will effectively join the hamlet Bucknell to the growing town of Bicester. Another aim of this series, is to offer support and best practice ideas for protesters, activists or even disconnected concerned citizens, the world over. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk. You'll recognize yourself in these true-life stories of adversity, challenge, fear, discovery, adventure, expression, and more from women who are walking their lives while their lives walk them and the lasting difference their journeys have made. I'm your host, Diane Wyzga. Welcome back to Part 2 of the podcast interview with my guest, Jane Duncan Rogers, founder and Chief Officer of Before I Go Solutions and Before I Go Academy who joined us from North Scotland. I've invited Jane to talk with us about the absolutely vital end-of-life planning work that she and her team are spreading around the world. We were talking about creating Before I Go Solutions as a non-profit when I asked Jane about the challenges and frustrations she faced. Let's hear what she has to say about this and so much more on the topic of end-of-life planning, how it benefits you and your loved ones, and what you can do about it.Minutes: 37:3800 to 2:03 Intro2:03 to 4:20 Challenges and Frustrations I'm curious. You said you knew you were on the right path because of the Yes!, the resounding “Yes!” as you were checking in - but what might have been some of the frustrations and challenges as you were putting all this together?Challenge #1: Putting it together on a shoestringSpent all savings on book publication, Gifted By GriefYes, felt right in some wayFinancials are still a challenge; however Jane has never let lack of money stop her doing anythingWill always find a wayChallenge #2: After 30 years of working as an independent professional now had a team of directors to confer and decide withHad been used to barging ahead with her own ideas, with whatever felt rightChallenge #3: taking on coaches, assistants and the like as Before I Go Solutions expands and developsChallenge #4: anxiety; growth spurt; doesn't feel comfortable but that's what growing anything is like 4:20 to 8:00 Why Should We Even Care About End-of-Life Planning? Many folks say I don't care - I'll be dead - do whatever you like! The thing is, end-of-life plans are for those who come afterIs an incredibly selfless actThis End-of-Life planning is not for everybody; but is still useful to go through the processThe caring is about you caring about those you love and how they will manage after you dieIf you can make their way easier (which you can) that's whyIt is not easy; that's why we do it collectively and have facilitators to helpBelieve it or not: It's a creative process; can be fun and enjoyableMore folks are aware and more open to end-of-life planning because of COVIDOver the past year or so of COVID has there been an increased awareness of end-of-life, of mortality? Do you find that because of COVID that there is not only an increased awareness of life and end-of-life but people are more likely to raise the subject of end-of-life and mortality? In Jane's world death is a common topic; people might be having more conversations. As to the world in general maybe more conversations; but unless the conversation is recorded (even a simple as a list) nothing happens and people remember differentlyUnless you translate a conversation into documentation about choices and desires there could be arguments and issues that cause problems among loved onesThis is not just about the funeral but maybe several years down the line: there could be disagreements about this, that or the other: finances, companies, care of children and the likeJane works with those who recognize that End-of-Life planning is a good idea but still haven't gotten around to itJane's attention is with the willing albeit challenged8:00 to 11:35 How Do You Draw In and Work With the Willing?Like filings to a magnet; attract the willing who wish to investJane's book: Before I Go - has simple instructionsWorkbook to complete is a bigger version of original list of questionsJane discovered that folks do not do the work without help so she created coursesFrom that a facilitator training course was designed and developed to have facilitators to helpPeople ask: Why is there a charge for all of this stuff? Especially when it's there for free although not all in 1 placePeople need encouragement and 1 way to do that is put money where mouth isJane is driven to get End-of-Life Plans to be as common as birth plansJust do it!When you do it with others is creative, fun and connectingHost: quilting bee for End-of-Life!In the day when we could meet together there was that flavor to it11:35 to 14:40 How Do You Begin the Conversation in the Family, With Loved Ones? There is a return to face-to-face so we will have the opportunity for a collective; but before we get to that place, how do you start a conversation in the family?Conversation starters require a contextDo not plan to show up at dinner and ask about burial or cremationIn context it becomes natural to ask a question and discuss the topicWhen Prince Phillip died he had an End-of-Life Plan for years: he wanted a custom-made Land Rover to carry his coffin which makes for an ideal conversation starter: I was thinking about Prince Philip and his Land Rover and made me realize I'd like a side-car...what would you like? Ever thought about it?Another would be: if a celebrity dies, or if you went to funeral, or if attend ed online funeral, or learned about photo legacy, or even listening to amazing podcast between Diane and Jane Duncan Rogers who is completely mad...Have courage because you don't know loved ones' responses in advanceNot easy to ask about personals about sex, money and death; but unless we ask the answer is never given14:40 to 19:45 Before I Go Solutions Website & Free 10 Question QuizThe 10 questions are drawn from the original documentPeople don't know what they don't know; that's one of the main problemsWe don't think about the affect on othersWhat to destroy: we don't consider secrets, journals, evidence, etc. that might hurt or be unpleasant to loved ones; decide what to do with those items in advanceThe things you really don't know: who is authorized to speak on behalf of the ill person? It's not what you thinkKnow the laws that govern where you live to understand who can speak for you or a loved oneGetting some done is better than nothingPower of Attorney is keyHealthcare Power of AttorneyAdvance Healthcare DirectiveWhat we have control over while we are living and not leave big decisions to familyExtremis is wrenching 24 minute documentary film on Netflix: what happens with families in hospital when Advance Healthcare Directive is not in placeYou might very well get treated in the medical system unless you say you don't in writing or otherwise verbalized it to maximize what you wantWe put our heads in the sand about death hoping we will conk out in front of the telly; the truth is most folks end up with a long slow decline getting more and more unhealthy19:45 to 24:50 Digital FootprintWe take such care with compassionate End-of-Life decisions with our pets/ animal companions. We do not consider ourselves, our loved ones - nor do we think about the digital footprint. Question: what will happen to it, what can happen to it, what can people do to remove the footprint or let it be?You have to make conscious decision to keep or deleteJane got a friend to deal with Phillip's Facebook page; but doesn't know more than thatDo you want to continue as alive on social media after you're dead, or not?For the young people it could be used as a memorial site that also meant something to friendsWhat do you want, how do want us to carry on, and where is it put down so we know what to do? Then get on with living your life.Host recalls a book about End-of-Life plan (Handbook for Mortals) where it was set out to how to take the opportunity to tie up loose ends; what happens if you do all that and you don't die, was it all in vain? No; you've done all the work, no worry that something is lacking. Go and live your life until you don'tEducating yourself about the myriad of details is helpful for those coming after and helps you prioritize what's important24:50 to 28:08 Highlights About TopicsWhat are other topics to address, chapter headings of what's to be learned.Secrets, Journals, Letters, Diaries. Online course (self-study) plus live opportunities with facilitators trained to hold folks accountable28:08 to 31:00 Joy in End-of-Life Planning and Topic of DeathThere is an over-riding sense of joy in this conversation with Jane which is a combination of true energy, purpose, passion and bringing End of Life Ellie the Elephant to the light. This isn't grim or depressing. This is engaging. Jane loves the word “joy!” in this work, especially because of her experience - even though it didn't start off like thatThere can be joy and fun in death and preparing for it, as her clients say to describe the work they do on the coursesBefore I Go Solutions bring a lightness to the topic - they switch a light on in what's perceived as a dark room31:00 to 37:38 LegacyAs we sit here today what would you like to see happen in the world as a result of your work? Completely fueled by the idea that End-of-Life plans will be so normal - like birth plansHaving a plan is better than notJane's Big Mission: commonplace in the worldNow, what about seeing End-of-Life plans as part of the corporate Employee Benefits package, the Human Resources Department, all part of culture changeJane has always been a pioneer in her past; she sees the horizon wide openAs we begin to close, what might have been left unsaid? The gift in the grief: from horrible to enormous number of spiritual insights she wrote about in her book, which completely changed her, and that it took Phillip's death to do thatWhat folks are interested in: practical side of thingsJane followed her heart to respond to that interestIf Life is calling you, your job is to follow it no matter how mad it might seemTook 10 people saying the same thing before she paid attentionA resounding “Yes!”Before I say thank you to Jane I want to mention that all social media links, and TEDx talk, and connections to Jane Duncan Rogers and her work, Before I Go Solutions will be posted in the Episode Notes. Academy. When my husband Philip died, I never for one moment imagined I would end up working in this field.I had been an award-winning counselor and coach for over 25 years, having originally trained personally with the famous Louise L. Hay in 1990, working in the personal growth field in many different aspects. I'd published books and tapes (well before the internet) and was helping small business owners to reach their full potential when Philip died.Because of the questions he had answered in his last year, I was well prepared in some respects for the admin side of things afterwards. But there was much more we simply did not know about.Fast forward to 2018, a year during which both my parents died. They had completed a comprehensive end-of-life plan each, the one that Before I Go Solutions offers, now known as the Before I Go Method®.This was very different to my husband who had answered some things, but there was a lot more that I simply had to decide about myself. And that difference was huge – as my parents' executor, I simply had to follow all their thoughtful instructions. What's more, it was easy to find everything, and I took great solace from knowing I was carrying out what they wanted (and that they had known I would do this). My three siblings and I had no arguments at all, over what was a pretty stressful period (they both died unexpectedly within the same week).I am so incredibly grateful and appreciative for the organisation they had so carefully thought through. So I know from personal experience how hugely important this preparation work is, and I want to help you to help others do this too!Jane's background of 25 years in the psychotherapeutic and training fields has been perfect for the not-for-profit - Before I Go Solutions - she founded and helps to operate. Together with her team of trained End of Life Facilitators, she provides products and programmes to help people complete their end-of-life plans, something about which many have good intentions but never quite actually get around to doing.Jane lives in the North of Scotland, re-married during COVID lock-down, and she and her new husband are building not only a new life but a new eco-house/home together. Fun fact Neuroimaging shows that when evaluating brands, consumers primarily use emotions rather than factual information. This is as true for brand-created content as it is for traditional advertising spots and banners. We can see the power of emotional content at work in #marketing that went viral. Nike's What Are Girls Made of?, and Apple's Misunderstood campaigns both spring to mind. But we've also seen how emotional content can go terribly awry. For content creators, using emotion can be an incredibly powerful #engagement tactic, but we must use it artfully. Let's explore the science of emotion and how we can use it in an empathetic way to create more meaningful content. #Science of emotion Emotional #engagement is affected by scientific principles that directly impact content creation. Here are four key areas: ● Design ● Color ● Images ● Branding Design Designs often fall into patterns of sameness around the latest trends. However, designs that evoke the greatest emotional response tend to involve something out of the norm. Elements of surprise can prevent your content from being filtered out by Broca's area in the brain. Additionally, introducing schema incongruity – information conflicting with an established schema – has the potential to increase interest, memorability, and persuasiveness in consumers. Color Color can have a powerful impact on a viewer's emotional response. Studies show visuals in color can increase people's willingness to read a piece of content by 80%. Using specific colors can have a significant impact on mood; for example, red evokes strong emotions, while yellow can foster happy feelings, and blue creates a calm, trustworthy atmosphere. Coca-Cola consistently uses red as its brand color. Red not only evokes a strong emotional response, it cultivates a positive, friendly energy that makes consumers want to participate. Images A large body of research confirms the emotional power of visuals — Visual Teaching Alliance quotes David Hyerle's field guide that says 90% of all information transmitted to the brain is visual. Images also evoke emotional responses. For example, photos of people have been shown to increase empathy, and photos of babies tend to be more engaging than other types of imagery. In one case study, a South African financial institution sent 50,000 direct-mail pieces featuring an image of a person. In some, the person was the same gender as the recipient; in other cases, the person in the photo was the opposite gender. For male customers, using a photo of a female in the offer letter significantly increased response; the effect had about as much impact as if the bank offered a drop in the interest rate by 4.5 percentage points. Art of emotion Knowing the science that impacts our audience's emotional response is useful. However, it takes an artful approach to turn this science into impactful, engaging content. It's all too easy for brands to misuse psychological levers in an attempt to make an impact on viewers or readers. As content creators, how do we walk the line between good emotional #engagement and audience manipulation? It takes empathy, continuous refinement, and above all, a relevant story. 1. Start with your audience's motivation 2. Inspire trust with a believable story 3. Invite people to actively participate 4. Create a full emotional arc 5. Use data to optimize your approach Bottom line Emotion is the key to driving strong engagement with your content. Using the #science of emotional resonance and the #art of creativity, you can design stories that appeal to your audience in a meaningful, real way. These stories will inspire members of your audience to share and will keep them coming back for more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/aleph-global-scrum-team/message

Top Takeaways:- Customer centricity happens when everyone in the organization is focused on customer engagement. That engagement is more than just satisfaction—it’s about an emotional connection with your customers. - There are three components involved in getting everyone in an organization aligned: leadership, culture and talent. - In order for leaders to be truly customer-centric, they must be immersed in the customer experience. That means spending time on the frontlines of customer service. - Give your customers a voice in your company. Actively involve them in problem-solving and give them a seat at the table. - Leaders must model the company culture they wish to see. - Customer centricity must be part of an organization’s values. These values must be visible to all employees and felt by customers. Define the behaviors you wish to see and empower those frontline employees to deliver on those values. - Even internal employees who may never directly interact with customers still have an impact on the customer experience. Every employee must recognize their place in the customer journey. - Emotional engagement is driven by three metrics: pride, passion and confidence. - Engaged employees lead to engaged customers. Fully engaged employees and customers translate into greater profit and success for your company. - Service values are similar to core values. They define standards of service on how to delight customers and should ignite and inspire employees, not stifle their initiative. - Recognize the difference between skill, talent and knowledge. Skill can be transferred, knowledge can be learned, but talent is innate. Part of hiring right is finding that talent. - Much of driving customer-centricity boils down to measurement. Measurement alone isn’t enough, though—you must use what you learn to improve the process and drive a better customer experience. Quote:“A customer-centric culture is one where everyone is engaged in creating engagement for our customer. That engagement is emotional engagement, not just satisfaction or loyalty.” About:Vibhas Ratanjee is a Senior Practice Expert with Gallup who specializes in organizational development, culture change and executive-level engagement strategies. And I think more than ever trust is our cornerstone in our business. And when you can show up in a way that makes people feel secure, it's our purpose. WENDY GROUNDS: You're listening to Manage This, the podcast by project managers for project managers. I'm Wendy Grounds, and with me is Bill Yates. This is the show where we sometimes like to delve into the project stories of project managers who are in the trenches. In today's episode, we get to sit down with June Mustari. Why don't you tell us how you met June, Bill. BILL YATES: Yeah, it was such a chance meeting. June and I were sitting at the same round table at a breakout session, I think Steve Townsend was speaking, at PMI Global Conference 2019 in Philadelphia. So I don't know, there were just a handful of us sitting at a round table, and June had really good questions for Stephen. And some of the things that June shared, I'm like, this is my kind of person. So we talked during the session and just stayed connected after. JUNE MUSTARI: Yeah. WENDY GROUNDS: Well, June, thank you so much for being here today. JUNE MUSTARI: Oh, it's my pleasure. I'm very happy to be here. Meet June WENDY GROUNDS: I want to find out a little bit about your career background. How did you get into project management? JUNE MUSTARI: Yeah, when people ask me this, I like to say I didn't get into project management; it got into me. I really started my career just taking things on that took shape as projects – you know, the beginning, middle, and with an end goal, an outcome that was very clear. I didn't know what I was doing, but I was managing projects. So then when I actually started to see that there were other people in my network who were formal project managers, I was like, oh, this is a thing, and I really like this thing. And so I decided to get a little educated in it, and I said I was going to take the PMP exam 10 years before I actually took it. So people say, “I'm going to take the PMP exam.” And I said that for so long. But you don't actually take it until you schedule it. Like, that's when it's real. So I did eventually get the PMP, and I appreciated the discipline of that. I'm a rule follower, so like that was a dream for me. And I passed on my 37th birthday. So it was like, I got into my car, and I was like, yes. That's a little side note about me being a PM and getting started with that. So it just kind of took off from there. Once I had that credential, I felt confidence. I don't think it's about the credential. I just think it's about the confidence. I took formal project management roles right after that, where it was like my title was Project Manager. TruNorth Consulting and Telecom BILL YATES: And June, you've been in telecom for a long time; right? Like I've done a lot of work with Verizon, and you were actually employed by Verizon for a long time, and you continue to kind of go down that industry path. JUNE MUSTARI: Yeah, my M.O. is parachuting into situations, trying to solve problems, and then getting out; right? So I had like four
Today Zach talks with educational psychologist, Cristal McGill PhD. Cristal is a leader in the field of engagement practices for social/emotional wellness within education. Cristal works directly with residential programs, and also conducts trauma informed care seminars that offer teachers support strategies to implement with students. She is a proponent for active learning platforms, and from my conversation with her it is evident that she has a deep understanding of the social/emotional nuances and needs involved within education. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I think the things we talk about are especially pertinent to teachers, administrators, and other school professionals, especially in this time of redesigning so many of our educational structures.
