"It's astonishing that a group as dedicated to quality and craft as California's Black Watch could go for...decades with a cult following the size of a kitchen sponge." So begins Michael Toland's entry of the black watch in the Trouser Press Record Guide. But what exactly is a cult band? It's something that we seek to define - with fifteen prime examples, natch - during O3L's Season 6 premiere! Joining us is the black watch's singer/songwriter/guitarist/prolific genius himself, John Andrew Fredrick! It should be noted that Toland follows up the kitchen sponge comment with "...the band's body of work is remarkably consistent, worth searching out by more than just epicures of obscurity." He's right, y'know. John Andrew Frederick has two dozen albums of stellar indie pop to his name since 1988, including a pair of fantastic records in 2024 - The Morning Papers Have Given Us the Vapours and Weird Rooms. You can find those and more at https://theblackwatch.bandcamp.com. What's it like to be a cult hero? What's the most "cultish" thing black watch fans have done? What beloved cult band can John not get behind? Did the lads give John some ideas for his upcoming double album? So whaddya say? Join the "Mark E. Smiths of podcasting" for an episode stuffed to the gills with epicures of obscurity, brilliant failures, and horrible pleasures. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

⭐️ Get your free Human Design Chart https://www.miranda-mitchell.com/free-human-design-chart-video ⭐️ In this episode of the Provoking Prosperity podcast, host Miranda Mitchell sits down with acclaimed painter and muralist Myles Toland. They delve into Toland's unique artistic journey that bridges the realms of waking and dreaming, exploring themes of spiritual energy, geometry, and the human-nature connection. Based in Spokane, Washington, Toland shares insights into his creative process, the balance between inspiration and obligation, and how he navigates external pressures while staying true to his authentic voice. They also discuss the deeper, often shadowy aspects of creativity, the role of public art, and the profound impact of his works, including his series at the Beatles Ashram in India. The conversation offers a nuanced look into how art can serve as a medium for storytelling, self-expression, and fostering peace and authenticity in a disconnected world. Miles' Bio: Miles Toland is a painter from Santa Fe, New Mexico and currently based in Spokane, Washington. He finds an even split between making studio art and painting large scale murals around the world. His artwork explores the mysterious places we visit between sleeping and waking. Within these liminal realms he uses geometric patterns to express the spiritual energy of his subjects and their connection to the unknown. Miles is best known for his mural series at The Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh, India and for his painting featured in Season 2 of the TV show Better Call Saul. Libby Care Center of Cascadia in Libby, MT, didn't necessarily have a wide choice of psychiatrists to turn to when leaders decided to focus on lowering antipsychotic use among residents. So CEO Rachel Toland and her team turned to telehealth, a solution that has helped to bring in resources more quickly, manage behaviors without unnecessary medications, improve a key quality indicator and keep residents in their local community. “It really allowed us to be able to manage patients or residents that we in the past maybe wouldn't be able to consider simply because getting those services would have been difficult,” Toland told McKnight's Long-Term Care News Senior Editor Kimberly Marselas. That's just one of the many quality initiatives undertaken by Libby, one of two winners of the 2024 Gold – Excellence in Quality Award from the American Health Care Association/ National Center for Assisted Living. Libby, which advances to Gold after winning silver and bronze in 2023 and 2022, respectively, is also focused on staff training and consistency of care for residents. In this episode, Toland shares how Cascadia supports efforts to imbue quality in a building's culture, unfolds her team's roadmap to success and reveals their plans to keep pressing forward.

As per usual, all guests were only reflecting their own views. The topic for this panel was how to treat your data platform as a product. While many people in the data space are talking about data products, not nearly as many are treating the platform used for creating and managing those data products as a product itself. This is about moving beyond the IT services model for your data work. Platforms have life-cycles and need product management principles too! Meghan has a long history of working in museum administration and has been with the Sacramento Children's Museum since 2015. At the close of a harvest day in the summer of 1832, on Toland's Prairie, Kalamazoo County, Michigan a farmer named Hiram Moore strolled over to a neighbor, John Haskell and had a conversation that would ultimately change the agricultural world. Haskell, tired after a hard day's labor in gleaning wheat, remarked to Moore "Why cannot some machine, drawn by horses, be made to cut the grain and ave all of this sweat and hard work?" Hiram, being an inventive genius, used the suggestion create such a machine. By 1845, he had created his vision of a perfect grain harvester and gave a trial on the Climax Prairie which hundreds of people came from all over Southern Michigan to witness. It was the progenitor of all modern harvesters, drawn by a team of twenty horses. This is the story of Hiram Moore, the man who invented the grain harvester, and who also lost rights to all his patents as others profited from his inventions. Attorney Stephen Toland says the filing of a $27 billion lawsuit against the Uvalde school district, the Texas Department of Public Safety, AND the manufacturer of the assault weapon used may be a game-changer for the gun industry going forward. As for Donald Trump's classified documents problem? Toland says, "He's in real trouble," and he lays out how the government has built a strong case to indict Trump.
Just when you thought the Alex Jones defamation trial couldn't get more bizarre, it takes a Jan. 6 twist. Attorney Stephen Toland masterfully breaks down how legally treacherous things have gotten for the conspiracy theorist. On top of that, the Department of Justice has entered the picture and Toland says this is a game changer and potentially risky for everyone involved on the Jan. 6 Insurrection (including Donald Trump).
Lawyer Stephen Toland brilliantly breaks down the Alex Jones defamation case. He lays out the arguments made by parents of children killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting, and he points out some confusing twists with Jones' defense. Toland uses the Johnny Depp - Amber Heard trial as a backdrop, but warns the public not to expect the same outcome in an Austin court.
