In Monte Carlo, Sinner's 4th consecutive Master's title and reclaiming of the #1 ranking adds another wrinkle to the Sincaraz rivalry. We talk about our desire for a little less golden retriever energy from Carlos – or, at least one of us does – but ultimately an unfriendly rivalry is no longer advantageous for today's player brands. Last week, Pegula defended her Charleston title, 3 Argentines made 3 different finals, and Iga appeared at the Rafa Nadal Academy with her new coach Francisco Roig. This week Erik and Aidan recap three different ATP 250 tournaments which occurred over this past week. In Houston, Tommy Paul was able to capture the title 10 years after having won his first ATP match in the same tournament. In Marrakech, teenage Spaniard Rafael Jodar was able to place himself in an elite group of Spanish players by collecting the title here, while in Bucharest it was Navone that rose to the occasion. Now in Monte Carlo, the tournament is already underway. Based on the opening rounds, it seems that Sinner and Alcaraz are already on a collision course in their return to clay. Bradley Klahn returns to the podcast to recap the first week of the clay season, where American Tommy Paul reigned supreme at the US Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston. Klahn breaks down how Paul was able to dig deep and overcome his heartbreak in Miami, and explains why the American has grown on and off the court. The commentator dives into Ben Shelton's character, Learner Tien's first go on the clay, and how Jessica Pegula was able to defend her Charleston Title as she aims for that first major championship. Klahn also discusses Rafael Jodar's first title in Marrakech, where he defeated 36-year-old Marco Trungelliti, who made a historic debut in the Top 100. The former pro also weighs in on Francisco Roig leaving Giovanni MPetshi Perricard for Iga Swiatek, the ethics of coaching changes, and why working with Roig and Rafael Nadal could bring the Polish superstar back to the winner's circle. And Klahn previews the Monte Carlo Masters, where several talented players are aiming to prevent the first showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2026. Hosted by Mitch Michals.
Catherine, David and Matt are together to discuss the start of the clay court season and a fascinating week of coaching changes on both tours. Part one - Coaching carousel (00:00 - 33:55). With the news that Iga Swiatek has hired Francisco Roig, we talk about whether her training block in Mallorca with Rafael Nadal can help inspire her for the clay court season ahead. Could this be just the boost Swiatek needs? What are some of the potential challenges in this partnership with Roig? Elsewhere, there's a rundown of how Roig ditched Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard who has now hired Greg Rusedski, and Amanda Anisimova's ongoing search for a new coach. Part two - WTA and ATP Tour Results (33:56 - 1:10:50). We cover Jessica Pegula's title run in Charleston which was filled with three set matches, Matt makes an unsolicited Pegula prediction, and there's a note on the importance of Charleston offering equal prize money and the incredible story of finalist Yulia Starodubtseva. On the men's side, Tommy Paul won his first clay court title in Houston and Rafael Jodar made everyone pay attention to his talent by winning the title in Marrakech. Plus, David gets to talk about two of his favourite things - the Drop Shot Dragon and playing football with Diego Maradona - thanks to Marco Trungelliti and Roman Andres Burruchaga both having career best weeks. Part three - Monte Carlo Preview (1:10:50 - 1:24:13). Will we get our first Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz match of 2026? Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! Send us Fan MailWelcome to Episode 32: your full Miami Open recap. Resh and Stef break down Coco Gauff's gritty run to the final — four three-set matches (following a nerve injury scare @ Indian Wells) and a press conference moment that had us asking why men are still commenting on Black women's hair in 2026. They also cover Victoria Mboko's stunning quarterfinal run, Hailey Baptiste's career-high ranking climb, Naomi Osaka's relatable post-loss quote, Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova doubles Sunshine Double win, and a brief but enthusiastic segment on why clay season hits different. The 5% segment covers Arthur Fils' thriller against Tommy Paul, 17-year-old Moise Kouame making history, and Carlos Alcaraz possibly going through a rumspringa on an 88-foot catamaran.Plus: the IOC's new anti-trans eligibility rules, Miami and Indian Wells dropping Pride programming, the WNBA's historic CBA win, and some juicy WNBA gossip to close things out. This pod is for the queer tennis obsessives, the WTA stans, and everyone who shows up dirty from clay.
Jannik Sinner wins the Sunshine Double without losing a set – a first! – and upends the mini-narrative that said Carlos was running away with the season. Aryna Sabalenka, for her part, snatches back momentum in the Rybakina rivalry and bests bugaboo Coco Gauff in the Miami final. The actual star of Miami turned out to be thirst magnet Arthur Fils, who reached the semis, stunned four-match-point-haver Tommy Paul, and broke containment. We've also got: close reading a tweet about the IOC's new gender policy; the Charleston draw and prize money increase; and the WTA Finals' departure from Saudi Arabia. 2:30 Sinner's win reminds the tennis world to chill with the proclamations 9:55 Sabalenka keeps her head on straight for the final 18:35 Coco's hat: saying nothing was always an option! 26:35 Arthur Fils breaks out in a big way; a thick way, even 33:30 Charleston increases prize money to match the ATP 500 level 37:50 IOC's announcement on trans athletes and what it has to do with Wertheim and Navratilova 46:00 What is holding you back from buying a yacht? 47:45 Listener question: which tennis player would you go on vacation with?

Almost 2 years ago to the day Dan Evans and I chatted via Zoom- I was in New York, he in Stockholm. He was ranked around 35 in the world, getting ready to play the Swedish Open. That summer he won Washington, got to a career high 21, and had dazzled the tennis community with his play against Carlitos Alcaraz at the US Open and then again in China. Since that moment he has faced multiple injuries, incredibly difficult draws, and the mere reality of the pro tennis tour, where week in and week out every player, on any given day, is a threat. But he's also had incredible moments mixed into this challenging stretch including a remarkably fun ride in the Paris Olympics with Andy Murray, an epic win in the longest match in US Open history, and just this past grass court season, wins over Tiafoe and Tommy Paul in consecutive weeks. Dan and I had an earnest chat, and he pulled no punches. By going back in time we hit many of the tour's water cooler topics; the quality of this generation, ball quality, surface speeds and the absolute lack of stylistic variety amongst his peers.
