Changing up small habits in your day can create big changes in your life (this is the power of conscious neuroplasticity) & that's the first thing that Amy gets into with her guest (who is also her cousin) Amanda Reiger Green. Then the second thing they get into is wild...Amanda explains 'Address Numerology' (a way to change the energy of your home through numbers. i.e. Amanda tells Amy what number to use to sell her house since she's about to put it on the market, and then what number to use to make her new house feel more organized!) Speaking of organization...the third thing is about cleaning out closets (and making space in your mind) because Amanda was finally able to go through her mom's clothes (she passed away over a year ago) and donate them to the right person. Fourth thing is CONNECTION (and the importance of it) so if you're in Austin...check out Amanda's Live 'Soul Sessions' Podcast Event (May 7th) for an evening of empowerment, connection, inspiration, and healing! Amanda will be doing live psychic readings, answering Q&A, and helping people gain clarity on their purpose and meaning. On this episode, we discuss romance novels, one of the prompts on the Winter-Spring 2024 Books & Bites Bingo reading challenge. This popular book genre has something for everyone, even the horror fans among us! Jacqueline's PickOnce Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber is a young adult fantasy novel. Seventeen year old Evangeline had loving parents who raised her on tales of magic, fates, and fairytales. She believes in hope, true love, and “happily ever after” until she learns that the boy she loves is going to marry someone else. Then she makes a bargain with Jacks, a Fate whose kiss is deadly to all but his one true love, leading her into a dangerous adventure.Pairing: Tempt yourself with French Apple Cake, a recipe with the appeal of an apple pie or apple tart, but in a decadent, custard-like cake.Michael's PickThe Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw is a gorgeously written novella that perfectly mashes up horror, fairy tales, and romance. An unnamed, mute narrator sets off from the kingdom she's been living in since being caught and married by the prince. She's what we would likely refer to as a mermaid, a creature from the Deep with sharp teeth. She's joined by the androgenous Plague Doctor, the one who has attended to her since her marriage to the prince and the only one who has never been afraid of her. This book leans into horror but at its heart is the love story between the Mermaid and her Plague Doctor.Pairing: Enjoy a glass of Sierra Nevada's Narwhal Imperial Stout, a perfect beverage to sip while reading this tale set in the snow and ice.Carrie's PickIn Thank You for Listening by Julia Whelan, main character Sewanee Chester is a former actor turned award-winning audiobook narrator known for performing the most demanding audiobooks out there, the ones with multiple voices and accents. Sewanee got her start narrating romance novels, but she no longer takes those jobs because she doesn't believe in the typical romance ending. Then she gets an offer she can't refuse, and soon she's exchanging flirty texts with her co-narrator, Brock McKnight. Will Sewanee get her own happily-ever-after ending?Pairing: Taco Dip, a favorite recipe of one of Sewanee's grandmother's friends. The secret ingredients? Taco seasoning and sour cream.
Brush away the winter weather with the music of Easy Honey! This incredible band out of Charleston, SC has the dual sound of fresh indie-rock balanced with familiar feel-good beachy vibes. The duality in their music continues lyrically, with songs like "Steady In Vertigo" and even their name - since there's no such thing as "easy" honey. We'll be joined by co-frontman/guitarist Selby Austin, and bassist Webster Austin. They'll share about their beginnings while at college at Sewanee, the move to Charleston, and where they see taking things now that they're back to a full schedule of touring. The environment is very important to them and is often in their messaging and interest, so we spend some time on that since that is a topic of importance for us as well.Selby will perform their song "Spells" live on the show, and we share some video we captured during their Musikfest set of "Gotta Get Back".This group has such a fun, infectious vibe and sure to be your #nextfavband!Easy Honey LinksWebsiteMerch & music direct from the band!YoutubeInstagramFacebookEasy Honey MusicSpotifyApple MusicBandcampAs always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". Sewanee Chester's life trajectory changes forever when she loses her eye in an accident. Luckily, her acting skills translated beautifully to audio narration and her eye patch didn't get in her way. Adaku, Sewanee's best friend, follows through with their longtime dream to become famous actresses together on her own, with her blessing. When famous author June French's dying wish is for Swannee to read her final work with the mysterious Brock McKnight, she concedes to better her Grandma BlaBla's living situation. Who is this mysterious man hiding behind the nom de plume, and what will this mean for our leading lady? All I can tell you is that they sipped prosecco together, so we shall too! We are sampling Adami's Bosco di Gica Prosecco Superiore from the Veneto region of Italy. This made-to-drink-now bubbly elixir is fresh and crisp with notes of apple and peach. When she isn't writing and reading, you'll find her road cycling, running, and playing Pickleball. In this revealing and heartfelt conversation, Tamara opens up about being raised mostly in her father's high-control religious commune, and the confusing dichotomy of living partly with her secular and liberal mother. Throughout the discussion, Rachel offers insights on the negative impacts of burdening children with adult responsibility and sacrificing their education for the sake of religious devotion. Before you go: Rachel explains why it's important to take note of changing or inconsistent rules in high control groups, pointing out the often illegitimate derivation of their authority.
