Accepting shortcomings and taking responsibility are important aspects of parenting that can inspire personal growth and motivation. The happiness derived from parenting is influenced by the parenting style and the intergenerational relationships it fosters. Elitism and bias can hinder productive conversations and understanding. Researchers should acknowledge the limitations and challenges of psychological research. Certainty in complex social phenomena is unrealistic; uncertainty is inherent in scientific exploration. The value of sacrifice and the complexity of personal choices should be considered. Honest and sincere conversations are essential in a society dominated by social media and tribalism. Most Diversity Trainings Don't Work. How Can We Do Diversity Training More Effectively? with Dr. Musa al-Gharbi, Ph.D in Sociology and Fellow at Columbia University. This episode features a conversation between my colleague Dr. David Zarnett, who you've heard many times on the podcast, in conversation with Dr Musa al-Gharbi, who is a sociologist at Columbia University and a columnist for The Guardian U.S. Broadly, his work explores how we think about, talk about, and produce knowledge about social phenomena, including race, inequality, social movements, extremism, policing, national security, foreign policy and domestic U.S. political contests. In this discussion, David and Musa discuss the current state of workplace diversity training programs and how that pertains to the psychology of division, identity, common humanity, and how we can practice living in ways that promote our collective wellbeing rather than the current conflict playing out in the western culture war between political and ideological tribes. The home stretch, how do we finish clearing out our darkness, making amends with ourselves, our past, and clearing a pathway for continued spiritual and ethical living. This is part 3 and the last episode of our exploration through the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Please get in touch if you think we can help to guide you on your way to sobriety or healthier living.
In this episode, we continue our discussion of the transformational process of the 12-step recovery program. The focus of this conversation is step 6 & 7 and the principles we cover are Willingness and Humility.
This podcast is going to be an exploration of why the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous are so powerful and how they help to transform people's lives. As an individual who's recovered from addiction, as someone who's received a plethora of ‘mental health care' via psychotherapy, psychiatry, and mindfulness practices, and now as a practicing psychotherapist, I hold the 12-steps with gratitude, admiration, and honour. As with any model o f personal development, in AA, there are gaps, barriers, and shortcomings that often impede people from opening up to the principles and practices that will guide them toward healing and wellbeing. AA is not perfect. Nevertheless, it is rooted in ancient wisdom and spiritual practices that are consistent across many forms of spiritual endeavours. Today's guest Tony, A is a living example of the life transforming qualities of the 12-step program and we are going to do a thorough analysis into the 12-steps and 12-traditions of the program. This is part 1 of this exploration. The principles we cover today are, honesty, hope, faith, courage, integrity, willingness and humility.
