When you're a business owner, you pour your heart and soul into it, and there's always the risk that something could go wrong and you could lose everything. No one knows this better than my good woman, Tammi Leader. She also knows what it takes to bounce back better than ever.  After three decades as an award-winning television producer for the Today Show and more, Tammi took a huge leap of faith, stepping out of the control room and back into nature.  She created Campowerment, a dynamic, live and transformative, expert-led experience to help people find their purpose and their people and live life bigger and better, all centered around playtime. Campowerment has been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine, Forbes and Fortune, The Today Show, The Hollywood Reporter, and The LA Times. It has been hailed as THE place where women and companies go to celebrate connection in community and start living the life they've been dreaming about. In this episode, Tammi and I discuss...What it means to be resilientWhat happens when the worst happensWorking with familyBuilding a community that has your backThis episode at a glance:[02:51] We've all bounced back from being in the hole. And that's what I'm devoting my life to; helping people see their story, recognize it, and learn how to rewrite it if it's not what they want it to be.[10:45] With the state of the world and where it is now, “news flash, people, we need you.” Get off your tushies and start figuring out what you're supposed to do to help save this planet, and let us help you get there.[18:00] Oftentimes, we surround ourselves with people invested in keeping us in our old identities. Unless you have a spot to peel that layer off and decide which rocks you want to pick back up, everybody else is invested in keeping us where we are because it anchors them in whatever their identities are.[37:21] This is important for women in leadership to take away and consider when they're building their businesses; your client, your customer, or community, whichever it is for you, really matters and can have your back if you have theirs.[51:41] There is no such thing as normal. Set your bar higher than what you think is normal for you and your people, and they will reach it.Resources and LinksToday ShowCBS MiamiCampowermentTools - Ontraport, Mighty Networks, Google Drive, Apple iPhone, QuickbooksYou might also likeHow To Build Camaraderie To Boost Your Teams' Motivation and ProductivityHow To Rise and Lead Through Grief, Loss, and TraumaCreating A Movement, The World is Waiting ForMore about the “My Good Woman” podcastMy Good Woman is a podcast for bold female leaders hosted by me, Dawn Andrews! Who wants to infuse friendships, life's grounding lessons, and gather around a campfire in the spirit of fun to (re)discover who you want to be as you "grow up"?  Does such a space even exist?  The answer is yes.    Tammi Leader, after a 30-year career as an award-winning television producer, found herself a divorced single mom, burned out and no longer feeling fulfilled by her career and she knew it was time to reimagine her life.    Remembering back to the fun and community of her childhood camp days Tammi founded Campowerment, a transformational playground for women to learn, connect and grow together on purpose through a camp experience.    Campowerment provides the opportunity for women to find their passion and purpose, and step into a power that they may not even realize they have.     Tammi believes that the world is waiting for all of us.  Every one of us has a superpower that we can get back if we get unstuck.   In this episode, we discuss how women from all walks of life come together to find themselves and get the support they need to live their best lives Tune in to hear about Tammi Leader's expert-led community, Campowerment, and connect on purpose.     Bio   Tammi Leader   Founder of Campowerment   “I left my TV career with two Emmys and a dream: to build communities of happy, empowered people ready to propel themselves forward.”   In 2013, after three decades as an award-winning Television Producer, Tammi Leader took a huge leap of faith, stepping out of the TV Studio and back into nature to create Campowerment, the purveyor of live and transformative, expert-led experiences, powered by play!   After moving from her hometown of Miami to Los Angeles to develop a health & wellness show for Telepictures (Warner Brothers) designed to help people live life bigger and better, with help from game-changing experts in every area of growth, Tammi was at the top of her career, and yet deeply unhappy. At 53, she set out to find that “happy place” within herself, so she went back to her roots…to the place of her happiest childhood memories: summer camp. In partnership with her College Professor mother (Grandy) and Brand Strategist oldest daughter (Chelsea), and the support of her entire family, Tammi created a new concept, live and off-air: a sleepaway-camp-inspired experience where grown-up women (like her) could re-ignite their lives.   Enter: Campowerment, where Tammi invited in the power players who had impressed and inspired her during her many years at The TODAY Show, NBC News, CBS News, America's Most Wanted, and EXTRA TV.    This new passion project, which became a business in 2013 when O Magazine named it one of the 50 things that made Oprah say, “Wow,” was the culmination of Tammi's highest skills and most beloved concepts.   From the beginning, Campowerment has been featured in Forbes, Fortune, and Parade Magazines, the TODAY Show, CNN, The Hollywood Reporter, The LA Times, Miami Herald, Reader's Digest, and lots s'more.   Tammi is currently working on a book about resilience and the power of kindred connection. At 53, Tammi Leader Fuller left her big-time producer's job in television news to go back to her “childhood happy place”--camp! Well, back to a grown-up version called Campowerment, a place for “women to learn, connect, and grow.” Says Fuller, who was in the news business for 34 years: “I was Tammi from Miami. I covered riots, the boat lift, drug dealing...I'm a storyteller at heart.” Ten years ago, Fuller moved to Los Angeles and while continuing in the entertainment field, wrote a book “about how having it all is not having it all.” In 2013, she decided it was time to produce something else: “I wanted to bring women back to the time of their life when they were carefree.” Fuller says her summers loving camp in the Poconos and invented Campowerment to bring back that sense of joy.  “We take over empty shells of camps...go in 24 hours with a team and jeuge it up and make it suitable for women to live in cabins,” she says. “ [We like to] let them be a bit uncomfortable to grow.” And yes, there are color wars and campfire songs, even a snoring cabin! “It's heavily programmed. But in the off time people connect.”  Fuller sold her home to finance her business. “I sacrificed my life to make it happen… Now it's eight years later.”  FREE GIFT! Humor, compassion, and candor are the driving forces in Marnie Nir's work as Chief Creative Officer and Expert Coach with Handel Group. She finally returned from Florida (a period in her life she likes to refer to as “witness protection”) to her home state of New York, but has shuffled around from New York to California and back again throughout her life. Marnie's professional and personal life have come full-circle as well. A student of Slavic Language and Literature at UCLA, Marnie graduated with a BA and an understanding of Russian Literature as “purification through suffering”. Years later, after several jobs in publicity and production, most notably for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle live tour (can't make this stuff up), she began to see that, at least in her own life, suffering was not mandatory. After marrying and giving birth to her first child, Marnie started coaching with her sister, Lauren Zander, creating the dream of who she wanted to be as not-her-mother. However, her work with Lauren took everything in her life to a much deeper level. More than a decade later, she is now an empty nester of two, co-author with Lauren Zander of Maybe It's You, Chief Creative Officer and an Expert Coach in The Handel Method. She has also continued her creative work, namely as co-creator of the animated series Mother Up!, which aired 13 episodes on Hulu and starred Eva Longoria, serving as an expert at Campowerment, blogging for the Huffington Post, as well as writing her own blog (The Sour MILF). As with every area of her life, Marnie's coaching is characterized by joyful honesty. She brings lightness and levity to her work. “I have zero problem telling on myself. I use my jerk to help others see their own.” Consequently, she is continually inspired by the difference that telling the truth offers to her clients. For Marnie, it's about building the muscle of Personal Integrity, where what comes out of your mouth is what shall be. “In this way, you can really go from ‘I will go to the gym,' to ‘I will win an Emmy. And not just say it, but believe it, and cause it.” Having been married for more than 25 years, Marnie particularly enjoys working with wives, mothers, and singles, because she is well-acquainted with the challenges they face and speaks b*#ch, martyr, and chicken fluently. Flowing East and West: The Perfectly Imperfect Journey to a Fulfilled Life

In this episode we welcome Leslie McGuirk to the podcast.  When she was young, a teacher told Leslie she lacked creativity; she heard this same refrain from publishers years later.  And yet, Leslie knew she had something to say.  With a little nudge from an astrologer that she met when she was 19, Leslie became an internationally recognized illustrator and book author.  That nudge led to a deep curiosity about astrology.  Listen in as we hear about Leslie's journey, her strong belief that astrology is like an orchestra and with the right guide, all of us can play our most beautiful music.  We are inspired by Leslie's guidance to follow your bliss, own your gifts and never play small.     “Follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn't have opened for anyone else.”  ~Joseph Campbell   About Leslie McGuirk: Leslie McGuirk is an internationally acclaimed astrologer who is breaking new ground in the world of mental health as she collaborates with western trained doctors to put forth a new vision for holistic healing.  Her book, THE POWER OF MERCURY (Harper Collins 2016)  explains how she sees humans as having an owner's manual or pattern which is your natal chart showing where all the planets and constellations were at the time of birth.    For twenty years, she has been a presenter at Rancho La Puerta (the number one destination spa in the world) along with Red Mountain Spa, Paul Gaughin Cruise Line, Campowerment, and many corporations.   Her popular talks on astrology as human design (not fortune telling) have been breaking attendance records for years.    Leslie's passion is to instruct people how to read astrology charts.  She is the founder of The Astrology Wisdom Academy where she brings astrology to life using creativity and storytelling. So many of us have pursued a goal, thinking we'd be happy once we reach it – only to find that we were no happier when it happened. We all have ideas about what our life is supposed to look like, and what success means. But where does that vision of success come from and why are so many of us left unsatisfied? This week, psychotherapist, Joanna Kleinman of Dethroning Your Inner Critic talks to us about the difference between the real you and your inner critic. Do you have a critical voice inside your head, telling you who you're supposed to be or maybe even how you don't measure up? Guess what – we all do. We won't be getting rid of this voice anytime soon, but right now – in the midst of a global pandemic - may be the perfect time to take the power away from that voice and give it back to the true you. In this episode you'll learn: How this critical voice developed and how long it's been around. Why trying to silence this inner critic can cause more bad than good. What our lack of control during this pandemic is enabling us to recognize for the first time.   In this episode, Joanna referenced the book, The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist.   About the Guest: Joanna Kleinman is a licensed psychotherapist, life and corporate coach, author, podcaster, motivational speaker, and the founder of Dethroning Your Inner Critic.  She considers herself to be an unconventional therapist and is driven by the conviction that the most powerful life you can live is when you know the difference between YOU and your Inner Critic.  She developed the M.I.N.D Method, a time tested, proven system that brings together practical psychology, neuroscience and the power of intention to discover who you are separate from the critical voice in your mind. With over 23 years experience, she has worked with corporations such as Campowerment, Cigna, and Nestle, and has transformed the lives of thousands of people, detailing how they can design a new future by rewiring the automatic way they think and act, and breaking the habit of giving energy and attention to their Inner Critic.   Learn more about Joanna Kleinman and Dethroning Your Inner Critic on Facebook, Instagram, the website, or by listening to the podcast.   About the Host: Janice Scholl has spent her entire career talking about money and business. Through her time as a commercial banker, consultant and mentor to budding entrepreneurs, she helped clients create solid business and financial strategies to help propel their business to success. While working with aspiring female entrepreneurs, Janice noticed that the same four themes kept repeating: Many women are uncomfortable with finance, both in their business and in their personal life. Women want access to more women mentors and advisors. Women often start businesses because they feel the corporate world doesn't fit their lifestyle. Few are motivated by purely financial reasons. Mothers didn't want money to drive their family decisions. From these themes The Money, Career & Motherhood Podcast was born. Now Janice spends her time helping mothers gain confidence and understanding about money, career, and business topics as they relate to motherhood and family – the way many women actually think about money. Have you ever wondered about the long-term effect of camp on a young person? My guest around the campfire is about to tell you. Tammi Leader Fuller spent her summers at camp, took what she learned at camp and applied it in the professional world. Now, if you may call is a third but I suspect not a final act, she has created a camp for grown-ups with: Campowerment.   Tammi and I spend some time delving into the lessons she received at camp many moons ago. We then spend time talking about how those lessons have helped her, and now her campers, grow and thrive in the present age.    This is a fun conversation reminiscing about the wonders of camp, how it helps our kids over a lifetime, and how we adults can plug back into the magic. I hope you’ll enjoy this Campfire conversation with the founder of Campowerment, Tammi Leader Fuller.
