Honoured to speak with a deeply committed, empathetic gentleman who lives here in Ottawa.  Our talk covers so much centered around Don's attention to serving those in need.  Here, I offer his bio in his own words... "A little bit about me and my life. I was born in 1953 and raised in Ottawa, Canada's Capital. I'm married to Lauren, the love of my life. We have 5 kids, 9 grandkids, 2 active dogs, we work from home, we love to travel and are proud to say we are foodies. I have over 3 decades of recovery from Alcohol and Drug addiction under my belt.   While A.A. educated me in the areas of self love, codependency, healthy boundaries and such, there were areas in my life that just never quite felt complete to me and I could never really put my finger on it until I was introduced to The Grief Recovery Method by an amazing friend who was interested in it for his role as a Chaplain with his Outreach Ministry here in Ottawa. Capital City Mission. (shameless plug) The lights went on for me when I began to understand that the same emotions we experience while grieving a loved one who has died, are the same emotions that surface when we experience any form of loss.  Now on to the nitty gritty and very raw aspects of why I believe I can help you with your search for completion. Let me qualify as someone who understands loss but more importantly that recovery is not just possible, but likely if you plug in and trust the process.  At the age of 7 I attempted to kill my Dad. I attacked him with a butcher knife while he and my mother were in a violent fight and in drunken stupor.  Needless to say, I was disarmed and pushed aside with ease and experienced a deep sense of loss of self worth as I was unable to help my mother.  To this day I'm not sure who called my grandfather, but I do remember sitting on the front steps of our walk up apartment and him pulling up and walking past us into the house. He came out shortly after and tied the bunk bed that my brother and I slept in to the roof of his old green Ford.  He sat us in the back seat before securing it and all to the roof of the car and remember I was looking back at the open door to our apartment while my sister sat on one side of me and my brother on the other.  That was to be the last time I ever lived with my parents.  Now I was grateful on the one hand for the safety that this new home provided, but resented my grandfather because I held him responsible for my parents not having to do the right things to get us back.   I truly felt abandoned by them both.  At the age of 11 I was molested by a female neighbor and within a few months of that incident happened to find a liquor “closet” in a friend's basement and quickly discovered the comfort of numbing and not feeling any of the pain that lived inside my broken little heart.  I was instantly hooked. At 12 or 13 I found the newness of drugs and just how effective they were at numbing all the pain and the three of us became inseparable.  I lived that way until I was 35.   Because of the addictions, the friends and the lifestyle that I'd subjected myself to, loss came at me in just about every form and often at warp speed. I was subjected to suicides, over doses, gang violence resulting in death, incarceration of countless friends, divorces, depression, not to mention the non tangibles like loss of self worth, value, dignity. A whirlwind of chaos and the weight of it all just accumulating with no real way for me to deal with it. I often felt hopeless and helpless. Now for the good news:  Every page I turned, of the Grief Recovery Handbook, was like the key to a lock that I had been powerless over.  Understanding began to awaken, and hope began to poke its head out even after all the years of sobriety.  I love the power of Ah! Hah! moments.  I was reading the story of my life on the pages of this book. The story of how ill equipped we all are when it comes to dealing with Grief and Loss. Was it any wonder that I was excited about becoming a Certified Grief and Loss Specialist? While in the classroom taking the certification training, I experienced completion like I had never experienced before. Looking at the loss of my life in graph form was a difficult thing to experience but that discomfort was dwarfed by the weight of feeling incomplete that I had been living with all these years.   Once I understood the power of the process and experienced the freedom and weightlessness it delivered, how could I not want to help as many people as possible? So if any of this resonates with you and you are brave enough to enter into conversation, know beyond the shadow of a doubt that I'll be nothing but a Heart with Ears. If I can't help you to the other side of your loss, I'm sure I know someone who can.  Take the chance, because I guarantee you, you are worth it." ~Don Lachance Socials and Site Links The Grief Recovery Method Instagram LinkedIn

Julia Morin is a writer, a Certified Grief & Loss Provider, Certified Grief Educator and Grief Support Specialist, and the face behind the Instagram community @girl_meets_grief, which she launched over Mother's Day weekend in 2021. Julia is a childhood grief survivor who lost her mother suddenly and tragically 27 years ago when she was eight years old — less than one week after Mother's Day — and has experienced a number of other losses in her life. She is fiercely passionate about normalizing conversations and ending the stigma around grief, as she continues to navigate the various manifestations of this significant early loss in her own life. She is especially passionate about work around mother loss and childhood loss, as a result of her lived experiences. Her approach to grief support is rooted in the belief that grief, like love, lasts forever — and while we never “get over” it or “move on,” we can learn to move forward with it, live alongside it, and integrate it into our lives. — Grief continues to give me opportunities to learn and grow. It teaches me to live with a heart full of gratitude and to learn to love others and myself more. It allows me to live my purpose, which is to help you on your journey. Do you realize that you change every day of your life? Each thought, experience, choice, and response creates change in you. In other words, you will either evolve or devolve in your daily existence. You have the opportunity to change for your good. How? By making conscious choices to enhance your body, mind, and soul. Realize you are always in a state of “becoming what you think.” So what are you thinking? Even in the midst of difficult times and grief, there is always something beautiful to be found. – Says Robin  Valeria interviews Robin Chodak — the author of “Ten Grief Lessons from Golf.” Robin left her job after 20 years as a computer software systems analyst following the suicide of her husband Steve in 2005.  In the midst of grief, she started a spiritual journey of self-discovery, which ultimately led to her transformation. After the suicide she started to write. At first it was personal letters to Steve. It helped her stay connected and at the same time it was therapeutic. She also began to write stories about grief, which are published in various grief and suicide journals.  In 2017 she published, "Be Gentle with Me, I'm Grieving" which won a book excellence award and also published "Moving to Excellence, A Pathway to Transformation After Grief." Grief continued to enter Robin's life.  On September 28, 2019 she lost her beloved husband Dr. Gerald Chodak unexpectedly in their home.  It was another sudden death, which caused grief trauma.  It led her to publish a 3rd book that she had written 3 years prior regarding inner peace entitled, "3 Must Have Connections for Inner Peace." In 2021 Robin launched her new online program that teaches and certifies you to become a Grief Coach. Robin's expertise is in coaching clients, speaking, writing books and teaching through online grief courses. Robin is a trained facilitator for AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention), The founder of Facebook Suicide Recovery, owner of Robin Chodak Coaching and Grief Healing LLC, Certified Grief, Life, Spiritual Coach, Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher, International Speaker, Certified Reiki Practitioner, Certified Master NLP Practitioner, Author of 4 books and Creator of Online courses available on Udemy.com. To learn more about Robin Chodak and her work, please visit: robinchodak.com               — This podcast is a quest for well-being, a quest for a meaningful life through the exploration of fundamental truths, enlightening ideas, insights on physical, mental, and spiritual health. The inspiration is Love. The aspiration is to awaken new ways of thinking that can lead us to a new way of being, being well.

In this episode, we meet Chris Carpentier who went from having 2 heart attacks into his own healing journey and now is helping others heal.  We learn more about the work he does, the chakra tables, singing bowls and the light tools he uses to help individuals balance their energy and find peace. Chris was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. After attending Norwich University, he moved to Texas where he met his wife, Rebecca. In 1999, when Chris was 29 years old, he suffered a major heart attack, which required open heart surgery. This life-changing event began his journey of awakening around alternative healing, spiritual growth, intuition, mediumship, and human behavior. Chris attributes his greatest shifts in awareness and enlightenment to meditating with Amma Sri Karunamayi, a Hindu leader who travels internationally promoting global peace and meditation; studying the teachings of the O & O Academy, a sacred school for spiritual enlightenment in India; being a Oneness Blessing and a Golden Orb Deeksha Giver; working with crystals and becoming a Crystal Light Table Practitioner.During these studies and experiences, Chris discovered his own healing power and inner strength and began to recognize his purpose: to remind others of their own power and how they can heal themselves. They, like Chris, can heal and live a life of purpose, connected to life and joy. Chris supports many clients that face all kinds of dis-harmony or dis-ease, and he believes that no matter the circumstances, people can heal, experience health and wellness, have love, joy, and peace in life.Chris uses a wholistic approach to healing and asks questions to gain empathic impressions of people's circumstances and situations and beliefs to help lead them to their awakening, personal solutions, and their own truth. His many teachers and influences along the way include Dr. John DeMartini, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Jack Canfield, James Van Praag, Napoleon Hill, Byron Katie, Russell Forsyth, Sue Frederick, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Mary Manin Morrissey, Gregg Braden, Jerry and Esther Hicks, Dr. Emoto, Dr. Marcel Vogel, and Charles and Myrtle Filmore. Not only did he read and study their works, but he also attended many of their workshops, courses, and events. Chris Carpentier is a Certified Forsyth Crystal Light Table© Practitioner, Certified Trainer and Mentor for the IEL Institute©, Certified Atlantean Healing™ Practitioner, Certified Angel Card Reader, Spiritual Counselor, Certified Grief and Career Intuitive Coach, Certified Medium, a business and life coach, Master Mind Group Facilitator, and is the owner of Transcend Wellness, LLC.Chris currently does healing sessions, teaches an entire program on how to be an energy healer, facilitates spiritual processes and holds workshops on a large number of topics in the spiritual arts.  He lives in Houston, Texas with his wife and son.
