Police Minister Mark Mitchell says officers faced a difficult and complex situation bringing an end to Tom Phillips's time on the run. He was shot dead by Police in the early hours of yesterday on a rural Waikato road following a burglary. An injured officer, who was shot multiple times, remains in Waikato Hospital and is facing a number of surgeries. One of his three children was with Phillips, the remaining two were found yesterday afternoon at a campsite around two kilometres from where Phillips died. Mitchell told Mike Hosking it's almost the worst-case scenario for Police. He says that although it was an absolute tragedy, safely recovering the three children is a good thing. In August 1864, three young children went missing in the bushland of Victoria's Wimmera District. Isaac, Jane, and Frank Duff, aged between four and nine, had become lost in the rugged wilderness. Their father, John Duff, launched a desperate search that stretched over nine days and eight nights. Just before sunset on the ninth day, the children were found alive—exhausted, malnourished, but miraculously still clinging to life. Their survival captured the hearts and imagination of the entire community. In this program, we explore the extraordinary story of these resilient children and their remarkable endurance in the harsh and unforgiving Australian bush.

In today’s deep dive, a Chicago migrant woman struggles to get by with her three children after her husband was arrested and deported.
I've been married for 17 years and we have three children together. My husband once told me that three kids were enough, but recently, a friend told me he has a child with another woman. I confronted my husband, but he denies it. The child's mother has even admitted that he is the father, yet he continues to deny it and still visits her home. This has caused me a lot of pain, and I'm struggling with how to handle the situation. Help me!
Dorotheos and Eusebia, a devout, aging Christian couple who lived in Anatolia, had no children. After many years, their fervent prayers for a child were answered, and they were blessed with a daughter, whom they named Kyriake ('Sunday' in Greek) because she was born on the Lord's day. The child grew up beautiful in body and soul and, though she had many suitors, chose to consecrate herself entirely to God and remain single. One of her suitors, angered at her refusal, denounced her and her parents to the Emperor Diocletian. Dorotheos and Eusebia were subjected to cruel tortures, then sent into exile, where they died under further torture. Kyriake was sent to Maximian, Diocletian's son-in-law, for trial. By his orders, she was subjected to a horrifying series of torments; but Christ Himself appeared to her in prison, healing and comforting her. Many pagans came to believe in Christ when they saw her miraculously saved from death by fire or from wild beasts; all of these were beheaded. Kyriake told Apollonius, the general who supervised her tortures: 'There is no way that you can turn me from my faith. Throw me into the fire — I have the example of the Three Children. Throw me to the wild beasts — I have the example of Daniel. Throw me into the sea — I have the example of Jonah the Prophet. Put me to the sword — I will remember the honored Forerunner. For me, to die is life in Christ.' Apollonius then ordered that she be beheaded. At the place of execution, she raised her hands in prayer and gave up her soul to God before the executioner could take her life. Note: St Kyriake is also known as Dominica or Nedelja, Latin and Slavonic words for 'Sunday'.

Guest: Andrew Goldstone, M.D., Ph.D. On this episode of Advances in Care, host Erin Welsh talks to Dr. Andrew Goldstone, pediatric cardiac surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia, about the groundbreaking heart transplant that saved the lives of three separate children. It was the first time doctors at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital performed a split-root domino partial heart transplant. In this procedure, one child was transplanted with a new heart and their original heart was used to donate living pulmonary and aortic valves to two separate recipients in need. Dr. Goldstone, his colleague Dr. David Kalfa, and the rest of the team at NewYork-Presbyterian and Columbia had previous experience with a handful of domino partial heart transplants where one patient is transplanted with a new heart and another receives a valve from the explanted heart. Those experiences helped prepare for the split-root domino, which took nearly 24 hours of extremely coordinated care. In addition to their efforts to increase the number of domino heart transplants being done, physician-researchers at the institution are leading new studies that are also helping improve living valve procurement and storage, allowing more children to receive heart valves that will grow with them and require less surgeries. © 2025 …

TRAVIS DECKER CASE: Judge Ignored Mom's Warnings - Three Children Lost Their Lives Episode Description: Whitney Decker did everything right. She documented her ex-husband's homelessness, his mental health struggles, his medication non-compliance. She petitioned the court. She warned of danger. The judge ignored every red flag and granted Travis Decker unsupervised overnight visits anyway. This episode of Hidden Killers delves deep into the Travis Decker case, exposing how Colorado's family court system catastrophically failed three innocent girls. Despite Travis being diagnosed with PTSD and borderline personality disorder, living without stable housing, and refusing treatment, the court prioritized his parental rights over the children's safety. We examine the 1970's legal precedent that still governs modern custody decisions, the myth of judicial accountability, and the impossible position protective parents face when court orders endanger their children. Legal analyst Eric Faddis provides expert commentary on what went wrong and what must change. This heartbreaking case reveals a pattern of systemic failures that continue putting children at risk across America. Essential listening for parents in custody disputes, legal professionals, and anyone fighting for family court reform. At a pagan festival in Thrace, when the Governor of the region was offering sacrifice to the idols, St Glyceria entered the temple and declared herself to be a handmaid of Christ. When the governor commanded her to make sacrifice to the gods, she overturned the statue of Zeus, smashing it to pieces. For this, and for her continued refusal to deny her faith, she was seized and subjected to many tortures. First, the governor had her sealed in a prison cell with the intention of starving her to death; but an angel appeared to Glykeria and gave her heavenly food. When enough time had passed that the governor was certain that Glykeria had perished, he opened her cell, and all present were astonished to see her alive, healthy and full of joy. At this her jailer, Laodicius, confessed Christ and was beheaded. Glykeria was then thrown into a fire, but stood in it unharmed, praising God like the Three Children in Babylon. Finally she was cast to wild beasts, where she gave up her soul to God. A healing myrrh flowed from her relics.

Imagine facing the challenges of parenting not one, but three young children with autism, each with their own unique set of needs and behaviors. Selena Lanelle, a brave mother and author, joins me to share her deeply moving story that stretches from the heartache of early autism signs in her twins to the complexities of navigating a world that often misunderstands non-verbal communication. With raw honesty, Selena recounts her family's journey through domestic violence, the reflection on autistic traits within her own marriage, and the eventual empowerment they found on the other side of adversity. In our conversation, Selena doesn't just recount her trials; she also offers hope and guidance through her books, "Autism Avengers" and "Unveiling Shadows."
