In this episode of Casual Chats, Patricia and special guests Cartoonish Weeb, Rebecca, and Michael Hilliger discuss about the 2002 Nickelodeon animated series ChalkZone. The show is about a 10-year-old boy named Rudy Tabootie discovering a world made of chalk named ChalkZone after writing notes on a chalkboard when his teacher believes that he drew a cartoonish version of the school bully Reggie Bullnerd. Together with his best friend Penny Sanchez and his chalk drawing named Snap, they explore the vast world of ChalkZone and defeat various villains from the advanced technology obsessed robots, the Craniacs, to Scrawl, a drawing who believes that Rudy drew to make him look ugly on purpose. When the show premiered, it was the highest viewed premiere at the time. It was praised for its creativity, solid characters, and catchy and memorable music. However, it became overshadowed with other Nicktoons at the time such as SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Nickelodeon even mistreated the show by withholding episodes from airing until years later. Over a decade later, it became a cult classic from artists and animators on social media calling it an influence and a childhood favorite. They talk about their introductions to the show, their favorite episodes, favorite characters, favorite songs, and the legacy of the show. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/old-school-lane/support

The AMPire Diaries Episode 26: “Ghost World” | “Ordinary People” AMPies, assuming you even read these show notes (and you should, as they are great), I (hi, it's LaToya) need to let you know that I am so exhausted—as you can probably tell from the fact that I am dropping this episode at 3 a.m. on a Friday night/Saturday morning. So I'm just gonna get right to it. This week's episode is all about “Ghost World” (Season 3, Episode 7) and “Ordinary People” (Season 3, Episode 8) , and here is what we're talking: - Jeremy's body. - Damon saying "spitroasted.” - Righteous piss baby Alaric Saltzman. - Caroline doing God's work (dunking on Jeremy). - These rude ass characters talking while Bonnie does a spell. - Jill's ghost trust issues. - The mythology of the Originals. - The AMPire Diaries Episode 5. - CAVE BOYS. - Fred Dick's revenge. - Slimer. - The Michael J. Fox series Spin City. - Good boy Mason Lockwood's favorite show, The Vampire Diaries. - The Roxie Hart to Katherine's Velma Kelly. - Jill finally gets one of Morgan and LaToya's TV references. - Klaus Mikaelson and his ChalkZone. - Elena leaving Rebekah to sob openly in the Salvatore living room (lol). - This possibly being our final episode of the podcast. And yes, before you tweet or email us, I know I forgot one Jeremy/Caroline interaction. Back in Season One, before Duke's party. (A reminder: Read these show notes so you can know if we address something we forgot to address on the pod proper. Because we do that often!) “SPIRITS AT THE NIGHT OF ILLUMINATION” (“Ghost World”) “ORIGINAL PEOPLE ORIGINAL FAMILY” (“Ordinary People”) The more AMPED logline this time around? Well, “Ghost World” is definitely the dorkier one, because it mentions the Night of Illumination, which is a pretty dorky town event. Looks like “Ordinary People” wins by default. The Gents talk about Nicktoons starting with the OG golden three... Doug, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy, and going all the way to a bunch of shit we never even heard of like "Chalkzone" and "As Told By Ginger" that were clearly nowhere near as good. And then of course there's the crucial matter of at what point was it no longer cool to be watching these things? Also, how the F do you pronounce Lacey Chabert? Chay-bert? Shah-behr? Shah-BAY? Wayne Chrebet? All are probably incorrect... tune in to find out!

While Ben and Zane were trying to figure out what cartoon to investigate next, an ancient religious tome appeared on their doorstep. Expressions awed, they quickly translated the texts and skrawlings, only to discover the means to opening a portal to a semi-divine plane of existence. Listen to their recordings as they relate here, for the first time, the transcendental secrets of the 'Chalk Zone'. Will they achieve true enlightenment by experiencing such divine beings first-hand, or will they lose their sanity to the non-euclidean nightmare that is the maddened ravings of a ten-year-old?
