On this episode of the HOZ Comedy Podcast with Joey, the hosts return with full energy, kicking things off with opening banter, a YouTube subscriber push, and updates from the comedy scene. The conversation quickly dives into discussions around Somalian daycare profits and open mic culture, blending real-world headlines with sharp comedic commentary. From there, the episode bounces through unexpected territory of connecting hot metal mishaps to Crip and Blood terminology, revisiting controversial daycare fraud stories, and unpacking ICE-related debates alongside theories about global elites. Nothing stays serious for long, as the crew flips heavy topics into humor without losing the edge. The back half leans fully into classic HOZ chaos, debating cartoon princess hygiene, prankster punishments, and cultural icons like Speedy Gonzales and Pepe Le Pew, before wrapping up with final show announcements. It's another unfiltered, wide-ranging episode that mixes comedy, commentary, and pure barbershop-style conversation.

Kathleen Kennedy Steps Down from Lucasfilm, Zootopia 2 and Marty Supreme Hit Box Office Milestones and Netflix Makes it Rain

Last week Lucasfilm announced that Kathleen Kennedy is stepping down from her role as studio president, a position she has held since Disney's 2012 acquisition. Succeeding her are George Lucas' protégé and Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni, who will oversee the franchise's creative direction as co-president alongside former Lucasfilm General Manager Lynwen Brennan handling the business side of things. Kennedy still has an active hand as an executive producer of both Star War's next theatrical offerings: May's The Mandalorian & Grogu as well as 2027's Starfighter and will continue to produce other projects independently. Kennedy's tenure saw its fair share of highs and lows, especially contending with an often fickle fandom, but with multibillion dollar films under her belt her exit marks the end of an era.It was a surprisingly noteworthy MLK weekend box office– outside of Avatar: Fire & Ash's continuing reign, Marty Supreme became A24's top-performing film of all time with 80 million dollars domestically, surpassing Everything Everywhere All at Once, while Zootopia 2 became the highest-grossing animated film of all time globally with over 1.7 billion dollars, passing Inside Out 2. Meanwhile, Nia DaCosta's 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple opened below expectations with just 15 million dollars over the four-day weekend, falling well short of the 30-million-dollar debut of its predecessor and behind tracking projections of 20 million dollars. Despite the horror sequel's muted debut, it's been an unusually robust box office this January.Netflix has revised its $83 billion dollar deal for Warner Bros. Discovery to an all-cash transaction valued at $27.75 dollars per share, simplifying the structure to provide greater certainty of value for shareholders and accelerate the path to a shareholder vote by April. The amended deal, unanimously approved by both boards, maintains the same per-share valuation while WBD stockholders will still receive additional value from shares of Discovery Global following its spinoff, with Netflix financing the deal through cash on hand, credit facilities and committed financing. This update comes on the heels of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos' renewed promise to keep WB studio films in theaters for at least 45 days before hitting streaming.Prime Video has released a first look photo of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider series, which has begun production.Hans Zimmer, who has scored more than 500 movies and TV projects, will officially score the upcoming Harry Potter series for HBO Max in partnership with Bleeding Fingers Music, a composer collective that he co-founded.Sons of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst has been cast as main character Kratos in Amazon's upcoming God of War series, which is currently confirmed for two seasons and has begun pre-production. Teresa Palmer was also cast last week and will play Sif, Thor's wife and the goddess of family.Cate Blanchett has signed a deal to reprise her role as Viking warrior Valka in Universal Pictures' live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2.Warner Bros. has set Jorge R. Gutiérrez to direct an animated feature centering on the classic Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzales, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

The Clay Edwards Show

On June 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM CDT, I hosted episode 998 of The Clay Edwards Show live on WYAB 103.9 FM, streaming worldwide on Facebook, X, YouTube, and Rumble from the Men's Health & Women's Wellness Studios in Mississippi. I've been calling my show “the most incendiary in America,” and today felt like it lived up to that. With my 1,000th episode set for this Friday, I was fired up, ready to dive into everything from riots to trade deals to local crime, all while connecting with my audience.   I kicked things off with my usual energy, welcoming listeners to call the Mazda of Jackson phone line at 601-879-0002 or text the Guns & Gear Text line at 769-241-1944 if they're the shy type. I made it clear I wasn't opening online comments just yet. Yesterday, I met two listeners—Barbershop Bob and a guy I think was named Mark—at Men's Health of Mississippi. It means a lot to me when I get to meet folks who support the show. I always say I'm just an extension of my audience, someone who kept pushing until I found this platform, and I never forget that.   I reflected on a livestream I did yesterday with Dr. Michael Walker at Men's Health of Mississippi. It was an uninterrupted hour-plus deep dive into men's health—testosterone, compounded semaglutide (like generic Ozempic), and peptides. It had a real Joe Rogan vibe, and I urged everyone to check it out on my podcast, Facebook, YouTube, Rumble, or X, where I've been posting clips.   I admitted I'd been under the weather yesterday but pushed through because that's what grown-ups do. I talked about how honoring commitments, even when you feel lousy, builds mental toughness. I compared it to my cryotherapy sessions—three minutes in a -200°F chamber is brutal, but stepping out feels like a win. It's like starting your day with something tough, like a workout, which eventually becomes something you love.   Then I shifted to current events, venting my frustration about riots in blue cities, which feel like a repeat of 2020. I called out what I see as a cycle of destruction driven by white liberals and outside agitators, with Black communities often looting in response. I didn't hold back, saying I'm rooting for a strong military response—what I call “FAFO” (f*** around and find out). I shared a video on X of Chicago rioters twerking on police cars, arguing this behavior drives businesses away and shows a lack of respect for authority or self. I'm tired of it, and I think America is too.   To lighten the mood, I shared a fake breaking news bit about Speedy Gonzales getting arrested by ICE, with Sylvester the Cat as the snitch. It was silly, but we all need a laugh sometimes. I also mentioned a hilarious X video I watched on loop—a guy at a cat's birthday party that had me in tears laughing.   Back to serious stuff, I celebrated President Trump's announcement that a trade deal with China is done, pending final approval. China will supply magnets and rare earth minerals, with 55% tariffs on their goods and 10% from them on ours. I gloated a bit, noting how critics said tariffs wouldn't work, but Trump proved them wrong. I trust him to get it right, and this felt like a huge win.   Locally, I talked about two Jackson kids, Ontario McDougals (20) and Efralian Johnson (19), arrested for pointing a gun at JPD officers. I poked fun at their names, counting vowels to make a point about cultural stereotypes, and listed their charges—terroristic threats, stolen vehicles, drugs, and more. I took some credit for their arrests, saying my platform helped shine a light on it, and called their actions part of a “culture rot” tied to absent male role models and no respect for authority.   I engaged with listeners' texts and comments, promising to put online chats back on-screen after Barbershop Bob suggested it yesterday. I shouted out Black conservatives like Topher, Kim Wade, and Antoine Daniels, who call out cultural issues without fear. I clarified that when I use terms like “retard” or “gay,” I'm not targeting disabled or LGBTQ folks—just calling out dumb behavior. I know that ruffles feathers, but it's how I see it. As the show wrapped, I got real about being an open book. I apologized to my older listeners for any crude remarks, like my semaglutide side-effect jokes, but stood by my honesty. I encouraged anyone wanting to start a podcast to reach out—I love helping folks find their voice, just like others helped me. I started Save Jackson anonymously, thinking it'd hit harder if people assumed I was Black, but I hit a ceiling and went public. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it.   I teased the 1,000th episode as a big deal and signed off, urging listeners to reject stereotypes—earned, not given—and take responsibility. Whether you agree with me or not, I appreciate you tuning in, unless you're out there twerking on countertops or living up to some trashy stereotype. Tomorrow, I'll be back from 7:00 to 9:00 AM, ready to keep it real.

In a humorous segment on the June 11, 2025, episode of The Clay Edwards Show, I shared a fictional breaking news story about the cartoon character Speedy Gonzales, a Mexican mouse, being arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). I described how Speedy was apprehended early that morning outside a cheese factory in El Paso, where he was working after his temporary visa expired, allegedly to support a "cheese habit." I recounted how he tried to evade ICE's new “Mouse Unit,” which uses trained cats, by running fast and yelling in broken English, but was quickly caught. I played a clip of a staged interaction where American TV personality Dr. Phil questioned Speedy at the scene, with Speedy claiming to be a “citizen of Earth” and denying false charges of “sex crimes with children,” joking that he thought the cheese was “aged.” I noted that Speedy's cousin, Slowpoke Rodriguez, was also arrested, and both were held in ICE custody pending deportation. I revealed that the anonymous tip leading to Speedy's capture came from Sylvester the Cat, his longtime nemesis, adding that Sylvester got the “last laugh.” I used the story to inject levity, commenting that even famous cartoon characters aren't above deportation laws.

Sermon Audio – Cross of Grace

Luke 24:1-12But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb taking the spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the entrance of the tomb, but when they went inside they didn't find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and they bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here. He is risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, be crucified, and on the third day, rise again.” Then the women remembered what he had said and, returning from the tomb, they told all of this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary, the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles, but their words seemed to them and idle tale, and they didn't believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping and looking inside he saw the linen cloths by themselves, and he went home, amazed at what had happened. We've been telling stories around here throughout the season of Lent, leading up to this morning and Easter's great story of gospel good news. I'm so grateful for the brave, faithful Cross of Gracers who shared brief, true, very personal stories about their lives in this world – and about the many ways their lives and their faith came together at a variety of crossroads, for them. We heard stories about miraculous healings, surprising encounters with the divine; family, friendship, and falling in love. And more on top of that.On Good Friday, to wrap up that storytelling extravaganza, we heard one more story and then we listened to the story of Jesus' crucifixion, suffering, and death on the cross. And then we left in darkness and silence, with only the microphone we'd been using all season, left standing at the foot of the cross, all by its self. Alone. Off. Unplugged. Silent.I'm not sure who got the symbolism of that or knew how deliberate that was, but it made me think of this picture I remember seeing somewhere, some time, several ago. "Speechless" by Darrell Van Citters Mel Blanc, of course, was the voice actor for all of those distinct and memorable Loony Tunes characters: Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Sylvester and Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Speedy Gonzales, Pepe LePew, and Daffy Duck. (Those were the days when cartoons were socially unaware and culturally insensitive in ways that kids like me probably shouldn't have been watching them for hours on end every Saturday morning. But we didn't know what we didn't know!)Anyway, these lonely microphones – the one in that picture and the one we left here on Friday – are a powerful symbol for me – and a connection and inflexion point – between Good Friday's silence and the invitation I hope compels us on the other side of Easter's empty tomb. The women show up to do their thing for the body of Jesus – to grieve his death, to anoint his body, maybe to confirm that what they had seen and heard really was true: that their friend, teacher, messiah … that their savior … really was dead and gone. And when they get there, the stone has moved – and so has Jesus – and they have this terrifying encounter with some sharp-dressed men, who remind them about what they woulda, coulda, shoulda remembered: that Jesus was alive and well, just as he said he would be.So the women leave with a new story of their own to tell: that Jesus was the real deal after all – just like he'd told them all along. The men, of course, aren't buying it. They don't believe it, because … women. So Peter hoofs it to the tomb to see for himself. And what do you know? The women – and Jesus, himself – were right after all. Men.But it's that question from ZZ Top (the Sharp Dressed Men) that gets me today. It's the question from the angels at the grave side that I can't ignore: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” It seems like a rhetorical question, but it sticks with me because, I think, it's how and where each of us is invited to figure out what kind of story we're going to tell about all of this, in the end.“Why do you look for the living among the dead?”While it seems like the angels imply the women shouldn't be looking for Jesus at the tomb – again, had they been paying attention and believed what he'd been telling them all along. But, I'd actually like for us to “look for the living among the dead” not because we don't understand or believe what has happened here, but precisely because we do understand and believe it. I mean, I want us to “look for the living among the dead” because it's the invitation of Easter, it's the joy of faith, and it's the call of our discipleship, if we want to follow Jesus.I think we look for the living among the dead because Easter's good news is meant precisely for the dead and the dying; for the lost and forgotten; for the oppressed and the outcast. It's for the sick and the suffering; the poor and the marginalized. This good news is for those without a microphone and for those with stories to tell that no one seems to be listening to.Of course, Easter's story is about the forgiveness of sin, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Those we've lost around here lately – our friends, family, and Partners in Mission – Jerry, Carol, Joan, Bob, Steve, and Dick – and all those who've gone before, know about life in the face of death in ways we can only imagine on this side of heaven. The story of Easter's good news is certainly theirs. But Jesus' death and resurrection wasn't all or only about the other side of heaven. He died and was raised so that we might bring life and love; grace and mercy, peace and hope to bear upon the world as we know it, here and now. Jesus died – and was raised – to prove that what got him killed in the first place … God's ways of justice and equity, peace and inclusion, humility and generosity, sacrifice and suffering … that God's Way was and is THE WAY to life everlasting – not just then and there, but on earth as it is in heaven, too.So I say we go, not just looking for the living among the dead, but that we go looking to bring life to the dying – the suffering – the struggling – the oppressed – the outcast, the sinner, and all the rest. That's the call, the command, and the story of Easter. We are meant to leave the tomb with such good news to share that it changes everything for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it most.Easter's story calls us to stand up to violence and injustice – and the death, destruction and dehumanization they foster – at every turn.Easter's story is one meant to make us care for creation in ways that prevents it from dying faster than it can restore and repair itself.Easter's story is one that makes room for all people – and their stories – rather than removing them from the narrative.Easter's story is one that should give Christian people enough faith in the God we worship to trust that that God is big enough to love people who believe differently than we do – if they even believe at all.I think Easter's good news of resurrection was and is the cosmic mic-drop moment of our faith. And our call is to pick up the mic again – maybe even to take it from those who would do otherwise – and to tell a story more loudly and more clearly full of grace, mercy, love, and hope for all people. Why do we look for the living among the dead? Because the world needs people who have the faith, grace and courage to bring good news to the poor, now; release to the captive, now; recovery of sight to the blind, now; and to let the oppressed go free, now.If we're not doing any of that with Easter's good news, we might as well leave it in the tomb and unplug the mic.It seems too good to be true, but Google says that Mel Blanc's last words were “That's all folks!” Whether that's the case or not, I can't say for sure. It IS true that his family had his most famous one-liner etched into the headstone at his grave.Easter's good news is that death wasn't and isn't ever ALL there is, when God has a God's way with it. Easter means, not just that there is life after death, but that because of that, we have life to proclaim and to practice in the face of all the death, dying, and destruction we face and facilitate too much of the time in this world. “Why do we look for the living among the dead?” Because Easter gives us a better story of life and blessing and joy, of promise, good news, and hope to proclaim and practice in its place.Amen. Alleluia. Happy Easter.

Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons. He is portrayed as "The Fastest Mouse in all Mexico" with his major traits being the ability to run extremely fast, being quick-witted and heroic while speaking with an exaggerated Mexican accent.[1] He usually wears a yellow sombrero, white shirt and trousers (which was a common traditional outfit worn by men and boys of rural Mexican villages), and a red kerchief, similar to that of some traditional Mexican attires.[2] There have been 46 theatrical shorts made either starring or featuring the character. Slowpoke Rodriguez is a character from the Looney Tunes series. He is the slowest mouse in all Mexico. He is also the cousin of Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all Mexico. Despite his seeming physical deficiency, Slowpoke proves himself to be very cunning and virtually as smart as Speedy is fast. He also shows very good gunfighting and hypnotism skills, which he uses as self-defense from predators such as cats. He usually relies on Speedy to get away from Sylvester. We are a society that wants what we want yesterday. We don't want to wait for anything. We get mad at red lights when they change to red and there isn't a car in sight and we yell and make gestures to those who cut us off and glow slow. Why? Because we are in a hurry to get to a place that isn't going anywhere yet we think it can't make it without our presence. We have all the information we could ever need at our fingertips and we get it in a instance, at the push of a button but yet we have to wait patiently for something we have no control over whatsoever—the return of Jesus. And as we wait patiently for Jesus' return, we are to be patient with one another and not grumble about one another.
