Jeff Browning is currently ranked 2nd in the world for most 100 mile career wins, having competed in over 200 ultras and standing at the top of the Podium for races like Hardrock, Bighorn 100, HURT 100, and so many more. He has been named in the top 10 ultra runners of the year an astounding 8 times, and at age 52, is the oldest male to ever be ranked. And he just keeps getting better. He took the win at 5 of his 7 races in 2023, and then kicked off this year with a win at the Coldwater Rumble 100, a podium slot at the Mesquite Canyon 50 miler, and then came across the line at the Cocodona 250 with a heart wrenching 2nd place finish due to a bout with Reactive Airway Dysfunction after absolutely dominating the majority of the race. He is renowned for his coaching, his expansive knowledge around training, strength work and nutrition, and after getting to spend a little time with him, we can confirm that he is the nicest dude you could ever hope to come across. No matter where you are in your ultra journey, there is always so much to learn from this guy so be sure to plug in for our chat with the one and only Jeff Browning, aka "Bronco Billy." Don Reichelt is an acclaimed trail and ultra runner, distinguished for his exceptional endurance and speed, residing in the scenic Fairplay, Colorado. He shares his life with his supportive wife, Amy, and their two beloved dogs, Bean and Sprout. Don's running prowess is evident in his remarkable achievements, notably his 100-mile trail best of 13:16, secured at the Tunnel Hill 100 in November 2020. This outstanding performance not only marked a personal best but also stood as the third-fastest trail 100-mile run in North America for that year. In November 2022, Don showcased his versatility and strength by setting three manual treadmill world records, wearing a Speedland road prototype. These records include the furthest distance in 12 hours, the fastest 100 miles, and the furthest distance run in 24 hours. His endurance and resilience have also earned him a podium finish at the Badwater 135, recognized as "The World's Toughest Footrace." Furthermore, Don's international representation includes being a member of the 2017 U.S. Spartathlon team, enduring a 153-mile race from Athens to Sparta, and his invitation to the prestigious 2019 Backyard World Championship. Don's racing accolades continue with numerous top finishes, such as securing the first place in the Coldwater Rumble 52 Mile in 2021, 2022, and 2023, as well as victories in the Salt Flats Endurance Run 50K in 2021, and the Lean Horse 100 mile in 2019. He also proudly finished as the 2nd place runner in the 2017 Keys 100 mile and is a celebrated Leadville Leadman Finisher. Away from the racing tracks, Don is deeply involved in the health tech industry, dedicating his time to Oura Ring, a pioneering startup known for its innovative, health-focused wearable technology. His role reflects his passion for promoting health and wellbeing, extending beyond his personal athletic endeavors. In addition to his professional and athletic pursuits, Don is a vibrant voice in the running community. He is not only a 2023 USA 24-Hour National Champ and a 3x Manual Treadmill World Record Holder but also a content creator who shares his love for running and interviews individuals on a tiny bench, bringing together a community passionate about endurance, health, and the resilience of the human spirit. With Fairplay, Colorado as his backdrop, Don continues to inspire and lead in the realms of ultra running and health technology.

This week you get an extra long, rambling episode…and I still think I forgot to mention a few things! Coldwater was absolutely the hardest race I've done so far…and that's also what made crossing that finish line at midnight so rewarding. Join me as I tell you what it took to keep putting one foot in front of the other for 16 plus hours on the rocky, technical trails of the Estrella Mountains on a beautiful winter day in Arizona. It was an adventure worth sharing! Please go check out @aravaiparunning on IG if you run trails…you might just find yourself joining me for a run in the desert one of these days! Shoutout to my coach Kylie Aldaz…and to every single one of you who shared a kind word or message before, during or after my race. Ultramarathon #3 is in the books!!! As always, thank you SO much for listening! Let me know what you think about this week's episode by emailing funoftherunpodcast@gmail.com or by messaging me on IG. @waddellrunninglady

This is the first of two parts of a very fun conversation with one of the really impressive relatively-new stars of the ultraendurance world, Don Reichelt. After pretty much his debut doing Leadman in 2015, Don has plunged headlong into running long distances and doing everything he can to embrace finding out how far he can go in the sport. He has moved to a house at 9600-feet elevation near Fairplay, Colo., and has outfitted his place with a workout space, ice plunge barrel, sauna, and more. When he first broke out, he won the Lean Horse 100-miler and ran a blazing 13:16 at Tunnel Hill. He has won the 52-mile Coldwater Rumble in Ariz. the past two years. His most recent achievement was breaking the Guinness World record for running 12 hours, 24 hours, and for 100 miles on a manual treadmill, which is quite a bit more challenging than a motorized one. In this first part, we talk about Don's ups and downs running at the Leadville Trail 100, about his relationship to David and David's continued influence on him to this day, about learning the process to taking big jumps in his running abilities, which I think is quite educational, the benefits he's noticed from his vegetarian diet, and challenging himself to run races like the Keys 100 in Florida's humidity, and the Badwater 135, where he surprised a lot of people in finishing third in his debut. His focus and his curiosity to see how far he can challenge himself is truly inspirational. Plus, he's a super nice guy, so I hope you enjoy this great chat.Don ReicheltFacebook @Don ReicheltInstagram @runwithdonBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram @stahlor

On The Trails With Simon. Alright so this is the final episode of the 2022 season! We are talking about the Jupiter Ridge Sand Spur! This episode is coming way after race day with some recording craziness that had me having to bail on the first attempt... but we finally got it done! On the chat we've got your Overall Champion in the 50k, Allision Duarte! She absolutely crushed it in the sand going 5:25:52! Second place was Scoot Hoover who ran a time of 6:04:54. In 2021, she ran the Sand Spur 50k with a time 6:37:56 to place 4th overall. Allison has done races like Lake to Ocean 100k, the Osprey, and the Sky to Summit 50k. Joining Allison is a Sand Spur and Trident veteran, Eric Desimone. He took on the 82 miles this year and he also placed 13th in the Trident Ridge to Nowhere 12HR/40 Miler back in July! In 2021, he also ran at the Sand Spur and the Trident placing 9th and 16th respectively. He's also done races like the Skunk Ape Night Run, Long Play, River to Sea, and the Toxic Trail 37 Miler. He's joined by Shane Loughran! He placed 6th overall this year at the Sand Spur. We all either rust out or wear out, and Shane is crushing it! He's also done races like the Legacy Trail 60k, Dunes 50k & 50 Miler, the Coldwater Rumble 52 Miler, and the Riverbend Park 50k! Then we've got your Overall Champion in the 82 Miles, Cole Bataille! Like Eric, Cole is a Jupiter Ridge veteran! He's ran the Trident Half-Marathon and Sand Spur 50k in 2018, the Trident Half-Marathon and Sand Spur 50k in 2019, the Trident Marathon in 2021, and the Trident Ridge to Nowhere 12HR/40 Miler in 2022... he also won ALL OF THEM! However, he took a DNF at the 2021 Sand Spur 5 Trials 81 Miler... but this year he got it done! The story of this ultramarathon began during the last ice ages. On the Florida peninsula, sandy hilltop island and coastal dune ridges were the only lands peeking above sea level over 2 million years ago. Then the seas fell, leaving the flat, broad finger of land we now know as Florida. These ancient sand dunes are known as one of the rarest living communities. The Jupiter Ridge Natural Area is a coastal scrub environment, one of the rarest and slowest to rebound if damaged. It is home to 31 plant species and 14 animal species considered to be threatened, rare, or of special concern. Mikey Bee does an amazing job bringing people out to run different distances and challenge themself to "The 5 Trials!"
This week on the pod, Travis and Mace are joined by Annie Hughes, Caleb Efta, and Peter Bianco. Annie Hughes, 24, is the recent winner (plus new course record) of the High Lonesome 100, a challenging ultrarun in Colorado. Caleb Efta is Race Director for the High Lonesome 100 and the Sawatch Ascent 50k. Peter Bianco is a finance professional, father (two little kids and two big puppies), and a husband who lives in Kansas City and pursues ultrarunning and ski mountaineering.
