Do you trust your own instincts? How much faith do you put in your own decision making? This Thursday Thread episode pulls out a bit from Tuesday's conversation with business mentor, Kelly Roach, where we discussed how your instincts are a compass leading you to unimaginable achievements...but how many people haven't learned to listen in and honor their own instinctual nudges. In the episode, I share some personal reflections on the transformative instinct-based strategies that have worked for me (and many other entrepreneurs and leaders). Despite what many of us have been taught, trusting the path of your inner knowing will always guide you to the next best step. That doesn't mean you won't feel resistance! But the cool thing about resistance is that it's always pointing you right back home. It can even be a big signal to your next evolution or stage of growth! Heck, many times when you're feeling resistance, you're like a hermit crab that has outgrown your current shell – it's time to step out of your comfort zone and find a new spacious place to grow! This is easier said than done, of course. As you step outside your comfort zone, it's natural for fear to arise. As you expand your capacity for all things, your nervous system will go on red alert! When this happens, reach for  a tool that can help you expand your capacity. Because the moments when you want to tap out are the best moments to turn inward and signal safety so you can expand. In fact, I invite you to expand your own capacity at the end of this episode using the  powerful practice of breathwork, a tool that can revolutionize your emotional agility and capacity for joy. I guide you through a breathing exercise designed to help anchor you in the present, allowing you to expand your energetic capacity and flourish even under pressure. Embrace this opportunity to transform stress into strength, and discover a newfound resilience that resonates through every aspect of your life. Support the Show.Ready to untether? Have you ever felt like you're up against an invisible barrier, one that's stopping you from reaching your fullest potential? Today, Kelly Roach joins us to tackle this very issue as she teaches us foundational principles for scaling a business and creating an enduring legacy. As founder and CEO of Kelly Roach International, former NFL cheerleader, and Fortune 500 executive, Kelly is no stranger to breaking through barriers. In our candid conversation, we navigate the challenges of leadership, the importance of self-belief, and the power of supporting each other - especially women - to untether and shatter those glass ceilings.I also get personal, reflecting on the immense impact my parents' encouragement had on my life and the journey towards authenticity in business – but also how  money mindset challenges and financial constraints during our upbringing can become big tethers that keep us from excelling in our financial lives.  In the episode, Kelly teaches us how to align business practices with core values, and how this leads to an authenticity that not only shapes a brand but also resonates deeply with today's consumers, who are seeking genuine human connection. Kelly and I discuss embracing every facet of ourselves, spirituality included, as a means to profoundly connect with others and thrive in the modern marketplace. We also address the less glamorous 'messy middle' of entrepreneurship. Starting is easy, but the true test of courage is persisting through adversity. Ever felt yourself shackled by the fear of the unknown? Are you feeling the calling to make a big life change, but you're afraid of the consequences, or feel stymied by how your decision might impact others? In this Thursday Thread episode, I call back to the Tuesday conversation with Kristin Lee Geiger, who dropped a NYC fashion design job most people in the industry would DROOL over,  to become a yoga teacher. I share about the power of the 2 am Truth: That moment where you have a stomach-punching realization something is not right with my life.I talk about the warning signs that you aren't following the messages coming from your intuition. One of the big ones is GUILT.  From the seemingly inconsequential choices at the supermarket to the duties we perform out of sheer obligation, I reveal the subtle ways in which our lives become tethered by the guilt of quitting—and how confronting it can pave the way to personal growth and joy.Harnessing personal power and choice is a mantra I encourage you to adopt as you recognize the impact your decisions hold over your life. It's important to recognize how deeply ingrained these tethers are. From genetic coding being revealed by epigenetics, the influence of inherited patterns,  the beliefs we hold, the patterning in our nervous system – these tethers hold down the untapped potential within us all.Join me in challenging norms and daring to reshape your own destiny with this big question:What would I do if it was completely up to me?As always, I end this episode with a breathwork exercise to support you in breaking down the walls of limitation. Have you ever felt societal shame when it comes to embracing your desires? In today's episode, I peel back the layers of taboo to peek into the idea of how feminine pleasure and power could be the unsung heroes of personal transformation. We're not just talking about the secretive corners of manifestation communities or erotic empowerment – though we're not shying away from those topics. Instead, we get real about the everyday joy and abundance that come from aligning with our deepest cravings and how doing so can light up all aspects of our lives, from the boardroom to the bedroom. In the heart of our discussion lies a candid exploration of my own entrepreneurial path and the surprising ways our intimate lives can shape our professional success. I open up about the hurdles of welcoming joy and affluence into my life and how these battles have spilled over into conversations with my husband, revealing the profound interconnectedness of our inner and outer worlds. This is a conversation about curiosity and self-acceptance, and how unshaming our desires and physical pleasure can create safe spaces within ourselves through practices like breathwork, and the courageous act of pressing into discomfort to emerge stronger and more whole. As always on Thursdays, we close with a meditative breathwork practice.Support the Show.Want to work with me live, in person? As someone who grew up in faith-based schooling with restrictive norms and shame-based practices, the word "pleasure" has long given me the heebie jeebies. Until very recently, I couldn't even imagine, let alone EMBRACE, a world or belief system where pleasure and autonomy are embraced rather than shamed. Yet, here we are, about to share a conversation with Courtney Boyer that could be the very key to unlock a life filled with more vibrancy and authenticity for so many. THIS is an important conversation – probably one of the most important conversations we can be having.Courtney Boyer, a renowned relationship and sexuality expert, joins us to unravel the layers of societal expectations that often snuff out joy and self-acceptance at every level of our lives. And when we get to the bottom of it, much of our challenges with love and joy and acceptance and abundance - it's all wrapped up in our shame around our own desires and experience of pleasure.Courtneys wisdom will – at the very least – spark curiosity in you around the complexities of female pleasure and its profound implications it has on your personal sense of freedom and empowerment. This episode sheds light on the surprising connection between embracing our desires and stepping into a world where life is lived in full color. We confront the misinformation surrounding female sexuality and celebrate the potential for a society informed by pleasure, rather than restrained by outdated taboos. Pleasure is not just about the act of sex; it's about claiming our rightful place in a narrative that has long been dictated by others, and in doing so, finding our truest selves.MEET COURTNEY BOYERCourtney Boyer is a relationship and sexuality expert and author of Not Tonight, Honey: Why women actually don't want sex and what we can do about it. She has been featured in publications including Parent's, The Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, The Independent, Yahoo!, and The Mirror. Why giving yourself permission is good for your health

Play Episode Listen Later May 16, 2024 19:16 Transcription Available

For your health's sake: give yourself permission!Have you ever considered the health benefits of being unapologetically yourself? In this Thursday Thread episode, we pull out a little thread from Dr. Cindy's episode to talk about how giving yourself permission to live fully and authentically in alignment with yourself is the BEST thing you can do for yourself, down to your actual health. When your thoughts and beliefs are not congruent with your actions and behavior, your body goes into self-protection mode. Your sympathetic nervous system gets activated. It signals to the brain that there is something wrong – there's danger! So, your brain pumps cortisol to help you jump into action and fix whatever is wrong. A constant natural drip of cortisol causes longterm inflammation and a host of medical problems. Alternatively, when you are in full alignment and joy - fully living your truth, your parasympathetic is activated. This is where you rest, you digest, and you heal. It's where you are your most creative! When you are you in your most aligned way, and when you write yourself a permission slip to be YOU, you get to hand out permission slips to other people so they can do the same. How cool is that?!You are healing the world by being you.Granting yourself the freedom to live authentically is not merely a path to personal fulfillment, but an actual cornerstone of holistic health. As we discuss the power of writing a 'prescription to be yourself,' you'll discover the surprising connections between authenticity, reduced stress, and a lowered risk of inflammation and autoimmune diseases. Embrace the idea that nurturing your true desires and needs is not an indulgence, but a vital component of creativity, productivity, and overall wellness. As we always do on Thursdays, this episode ends with a moment to breathe together.Support the Show.Want to work with me live, in person? Do you struggle with being consistent? Here's a follow-up question: Are you doing more of what you feel you "have" to do or "need" to do, as opposed to what brings you joy?In this Thursday Thread episode, I pull a an unexpected thread from Poornima's episode on Tuesday. In her conversation, we spent a lot of time talking about healing ourselves, but there was this little note about consistency and how to continuously move toward greater health and happiness. So here's a mic drop for you:If you are NOT being consistent, it's because you are not fully connected to your joy. That's because continuing to do something over and over and over with DELIGHT and ENTHUSIASM and FERVOR comes from being connected to your "why." Your purpose is to do more things that bring you joy. It's full circle, baby. When you are connected to what is most meaningful for you, you don't have to FORCE yourself to do it. It's FUN. When it isn't fun? You're not acting in what author Gay Hendricks calls your "Zone of Genius."You know you're in your Zone of Genius when you are so driven that you don't have to force yourself to do anything. If you're not? You're probably living from some "have-tos" - things you feel obligated to do. TIME TO UNTETHER.This episode also takes a deeper look at the joys of 'sprinkle stacking' — a method I use and teach to increase our "productivity" while simultaneously layering fun and passion into our daily lives . EI've found ways to Sprinkle Stack throughout my life, and I do it with my own podcast! It's an invaluable tool. So stop poop stacking and start stacking sprinkles, my friends!!I close the episode, as we do every Thursday, with a moment of conscious breath. Support the Show.Want to work with me live, in person? What was the pivotal moment that led you down a journey of self-healing?In today's episode, I dive into my own personal health and healing journey with Poornima Vamsi, who shares her own. Together, we unravel insights on the often-neglected impact of hormonal imbalances and energetics on women's health. Poornima came to her own expertise in healing when two unrelated, but huge events rocked her world 1. Her hair started falling out in clumps2. Her mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer (and she lived halfway across the world)When "traditional" medicine gave no answers or hope, Poornima set out on a quest to heal herself and and mother.  (Spoiler alert: She did it!)In this conversation, we discuss the power of listening to ourselves, exploring "untethered" healing modalities, and aligning with our body's natural rhythms through reflective practices such as journaling and breathwork. All of this as Poornima explains the role energetics and our hormones physically impact the body and our health. The conversation unfurls the potential of holistic healing in nurturing not just the body, but the soul too. We go into the tough choices women face when balancing personal aspirations with familial obligations, and explore the cultural conditioning of women as natural caregivers and the cascading benefits of self-care on our families' health. MEET POORNIMA VAMSII have struggled with Thyroid for 5 years, taking every single day medicine on empty stomach and then waiting for 30 mins to eat/drink something. I have also gone through post-partum depression, ankylosing spondylitis, plantar fasciitis - taken steroids to reduce pain and was frustrated living a life where I also weighed 90kgs/188 pounds. I knew there had to be a way out. My turning point majorly was when my mum was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer overnight and was bed ridden. It is then that I researched, studied, certified and implemented my learnings to reverse my hormonal imbalances which allowed me to go off Thyroid medication, stopped taking steroids, reversed ankylosing spondylitis and plantar fasciitis and dropped a whopping 30kgs. Do you love dreaming big, but then feel like those dreams have to be tucked away for "someday"? Today, I invite you to pull out your dream canvas and splash it with the vibrant colors of the present. In this Thursday Thread, we call back to the previous episode with Molly Ruland, who brought her island dreams to life by moving to Costa Rica. Instead of waiting until retirement, Molly took the leap and island hopped now (doubling her business revenue in the process!) What Molly was capable of achieving can easily feel so far away for most of us – but the truth is that it's often only a few decisions away. One of the first decisions we need to make for our dreams is to choose to feel our dreams as if they have already happened. In this short episode, I walk you through an exercise to do exactly this. One of the things I'm personally passionate about is removing the stigma, confusion, and even shame many of us experience around the ages of 35-50.Midlife crisis, midlife transition, and all the glories brought on by perimenopause – whatever you want to call it, this is real sh*t we go through. In today's Thursday Thread episode, I give my take on unveiling midlife transformations for exactly what they are: normal. This episode isn't just about navigating transitions; it's about normalizing and unshaming this experience we are all having in our 40s and 50s and  finding connection and community through our common experiences. So take this journey with me, feel the solidarity in our shared stories, and perhaps, pass this conversation along to someone who, like you, is seeking companionship on this midlife adventure. As we always do on Thursdays, I close the episode with a meditative breathwork exercise that bridges the gap between us, even as we listen from different corners of the world. Join me in reflecting on the invisible threads that knit our lives together, emphasizing the magic in each present moment.*This episode (and many upcoming episodes) reflects some audio grumbles from a time period when we were experiencing poor wifi connection in our area of Portland.Support the showAre you ready to welcome more money into your life? Does money cause you major stress?Heck, it's tax time, which can feel overwhelming – especially to the entrepreneur. In fact, I just caught myself in a stress cycle about the taxes I owed because I was afraid i'd made TOO MUCH money.Thank goodness for Kate Northrup, who has come on the podcast today to help us end this stress cycle and heal our personal relationship with money. It's easy for us to think that simply earning more money will fix everything, but Kate shares why no amount of money can heal the fear and anxiety caused by a rocky relationship with money. As she says, "it's an inside job."In this episode, Kate goes beyond the traditional "penny pinching" money advice many of us were raised with, and teaches us why this scarcity model is not helpful to most women. We go deep into the real things holding many of us back from financial success –like how our thoughts and our nervous system impact the money we make, and how your emotional 'thermostat' regulates your capacity for prosperity. Have you ever caught yourself going through the motions, feeling disconnected from the vibrant life you once envisioned? Is there a magical dream life you know is possible for you, but it feels impossible to attain? In this episode, I share the number one thing keeping you tethered to a life you don't love: not feeling. On Tuesday, Matt Zemon joined the podcast to talk about the power of psychedelics and why people are suddenly talking so much about their healing powers, and why he believes they should be more accessible. In the conversation with Matt, the main message he revealed is that the purpose of making these these substances available to people is to help them in safely peeling back the layers of numbness that keep us from connecting to our true selves. This journey is not all about psychedelics – it's about coming back to your body, and reconnecting the mind and body together so they can properly orchestrate the life you desire. It's your job to take your most empowered approach and become the conductor of your life – however you get there.I'll also take you through a personal revelation sparked by an emotional exchange with my mom, showcasing the importance of feeling our emotions, even if they're painful, to cultivate a more compassionate existence. This journey isn't just for the psychedelic-curious—it's for anyone seeking to live a life filled with mindfulness and authentic creation. Practices like meditation and breathwork will help you untether in the same way magic mushrooms will. At the end of this episode, I guide you through a gentle breathing exercise to deepen your connection with your body and the inherent magic of your being. So plug in, take a deep breath, and prepare to transform the way you engage with the world around you.Mentioned in this episode:The Dream Makers PodcastFollow Claire Byrt on Instagram Support the showWant to work with me live, in person? It can only be found through the journey back home to our younger selves. As we chase others' definitions of success in our careers and lives, there comes a point where we realize the deception of these tethers. You will never be happy building your life based on others' expectations, praise, or ideas of success. You must craft your own definition of what it means to live a full and prosperous life, and that begins with the tiny moments that brought you joy – before those tethers were formed. From hula hooping to the carefree rides on our bikes, in this episode, we explore how these pastimes are not just memories, but keys to unlocking our authentic selves, freeing us from the chains of constant stress and rekindling the creative brilliance within.Enjoy an 8-minute breathwork meditation at the end of this episode where you'll be invited to reconnect to your inner child, and hear what they have to share with you.Mentioned in this episode:The Dream Makers PodcastFollow Claire Byrt on Instagram Support the showWant to work with me live, in person? Happiness, connection, strong relationships, pleasure, luxury, adventure, money – manifesting all of it starts when you say a huge heck yes to your own fun.Don't believe me? Well, how's not having fun been working out for you? How is being an overly serious and over responsible perfectionist treating you? How is being in a state of scarcity and lack and fear and imposter syndrome and "I can't" been bringing in the amazingness? Okay, maybe none of these things are really you, but I'll be so assertive to say that it is most people. And it's time to shake yourself out of this unconscious slumber! We have manifested the world we are in right now. Shattering the perfection illusion: embrace your authenticity

Ever caught yourself trying to live your life like a curated Instagram gallery, each 'perfect' moment on display? This episode is dedicated to why we need to start tearing down that gallery wall.Like Mekiya Outini said on Tuesday's episode, the actual trauma is telling ourselves that life is perfect. Nothing is perfect! Yet, all external signals from society have taught us that to be valuable and worthy,  we have to be perfect. This is a complete lie. It's a lie that I have struggled with this myself – this striving to be perfect. At times, I have definitely wrapped my own self worth into the version of myself I wished I was, instead of simply accepting myself exactly as I am.That's why I take time in this episode to pull a thread from Mekiya's comment and unravel the concept of radical responsibility and how it can lead to genuine liberation. The cracks in our personal veneer are essential to our story's beauty, and I hope this episode invites you to breathe through the bounds of perfectionism and let your imperfect beauty shine. Nothing in nature is perfect. In fact, it's the imperfections that make every flower gorgeous. Journaling questions for this episode:Where might I be trying to fill in a hole? Where can I let nature be, exactly as it's intended to exist? Where in my life can I let myself love one of those little "natural holes" in my life, exactly as it is?Listen to this episode to hear:How taking radical responsibility for where you are can help you let go of perfectionism. Why your imperfections are a masterpiece. How to embrace the beauty of your life, exactly as it is.Mentioned in this episode:Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle, WAYouTube video showing a bit about Chihuly's creative processSupport the showJoin Brilliant Breathwork, the monthly membership offering multiple weekly live breathwork sessions with Jen and other trauma-informed facilitators, an extensive vault of replays, and a supportive community for authentic, creative, and radiant growth. Ever wondered how it feels to step away from the beaten path and craft a life of unadulterated joy and adventure? It's not Pollyanna. It's possible. On Tuesday, I spoke with Scot McKay, a fearless globetrotter who's traveled to 110 countries. Scot has crafted his life in a way that cuts through the noise of societal expectations. He's truly living an untethered existence. In today's episode, I pull back the curtain on the main thing I see that he's done in his lifetime and how this philosophy can reshape your life's trajectory: Choosing curiosity and love over fear and control.Today, I reflect with you about  my own path alongside my husband, where we've turned fear into a foundation of safety within our relationship – which sparked in our teen years. As we've peeled back the layers of our own relationship, we've faced some huge challenges. There are so many tethers and fear-based patters we've created between the two of us without conscious awareness. Dismantling them, one by one, has been quite a journey. This episode isn't just about wanderlust; it's an intimate exploration of how fear-based decisions can stifle personal growth and dim the brilliance of our relationships. It's a call to reevaluate the anchors holding us back and an inspiration to chase the life that makes us say, "heck yes, this is living!" Embrace the wisdom, the personal anecdotes, and the infectious optimism that could very well be the nudge you need to start navigating towards your own extraordinary, untethered life.Support the showJoin Brilliant Breathwork, the monthly membership offering multiple weekly live breathwork sessions with Jen and other trauma-informed facilitators, an extensive vault of replays, and a supportive community for authentic, creative, and radiant growth. What do sharks, entrepreneurship, and sipping coffee with Pablo Escobar have in common?Scot McKay! Yes, today's guest has a storied history, and we dive deep into all of it.In today's episode, Scot shares his leap from employee to entrepreneur, and all the wild tales in between.  His journey from being a challenging employee to becoming a successful dating and relationship coach is not just about romance; it's about the courage to embrace change and the power of laughter in the face of fear.We discuss the impact that travel and cultural exposure can have on our preconceptions and prejudices. Scott touches on raising children with a global perspective, fostering inclusivity, and how these adventures have reshaped his understanding of happiness and success in his own career and life.In our final thread, we examine the importance of authenticity and the allure of human connection. Whether we're discussing the unconditional love of pets or the magic found in life's simplest moments, this episode is a reminder to listen, be present, and let life unfold with curiosity and openness. MEET SCOT MCKAYScot McKay has shared bad jokes with North Korean military officers, sippedcoffee at Pablo Escobar's home (served by his maid), survived a shark attackwhile surfing, held his breath as the pride of lions walked by his tent, and blitzedthrough California canyons with his knee on the double-yellow line at 140 mph.Yet somehow, he has also been referred to as the “sane one” on Twitter by ScottAdams, of all people. But despite once being mobbed by the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, being ableto back a 30′ travel trailer into its slot on the first try, and that time he beat theWorld Champion at his own sport (no details provided), he's still the mostobjective and down-to-earth dating expert out there. His show The Mountain Top has also been named a Top 10 Dating Podcast byDatingAdvice.com, and a long time ago Grader.com weirdly ranked Scot the #1most influential Facebook user in the world.Schedule your FREE consultation with Scot and Emily McKay: scotandemily.com/freeSupport the showJoin Brilliant Breathwork, the monthly membership offering multiple weekly live breathwork sessions with Jen and other trauma-informed facilitators, an extensive vault of replays, and a supportive community for authentic, creative, and radiant growth. Can one, single question really change the trajectory of your life?Yes, I believe it's true, and that the antidote to our ego-based problems is the loving curiosity invoked by the question, "What if...?"In this episode, we explore the concept that your own curiosity is the medicine you're looking for, shedding light on the ethos of creativity that binds together artists, scientists, and innovators: the power of inquiry. I invite you to let go of the ego's craving for certainty and dissect the traditional dichotomy of right and wrong, uncovering how curiosity is the cornerstone of unlocking our full creative and magical potential. This is a call to awaken your dormant potential, to stir the very essence of your creative spirit, and to recognize that by igniting this internal flame, the impact transcends beyond the self. When we foster a mindset that values exploration and questions over ego, the doors to limitless possibilities swing wide open. At the end of your life, how do you want people to feel about you?In this episode, I invite you to use one of the tools presented by Danielle Cobo in her episode on Tuesday to help you define your purpose in life. Yes, I'm going to ask you to write your own obituary. Is this activity a bit morbid? Maybe. But it's incredibly enlightening, in the best way, uncovering your core values so you can align your daily actions to the mark you truly wish to leave on the world. This practice is like holding a mirror to your deepest intentions, fostering clarity to propel you toward your most meaningful ambitions with determination. As I share my personal epiphanies from this practice, I invite you into this space of vulnerability and discovery, too. Here's how to do the exercise:1. Write your obituary based on what you think people would say today.2.
