Friend of the Cruz Show Ferg came through the Cruz Show to talk about this new album Darold - he broke down some tracks & talked about the Mary J Blige Feature & more. Ferg also talked about secret project with Pharrell that never came out, why he never celebrated wins & being hood famous.

Darold Black loves people and he loves pictures. So it's no surprise that our conversation about wisdom turned into personal stories about life. Wisdom doesn't come to us as lofty ideas. It comes to us as images from the heart. Darold is working on a documentary series called "E5," an attempt to capture the wisdom of elders on film. It's not a gathering of wise sayings in twenty-second media clips. It's storytelling, where the seeds of wisdom have always been found. New episode with Darold Pinnock! Darold is like the hardest working person we've ever chatted with! He has a full time job, a side gig, a podcast, a wife, 4 kids, and he's refurbishing a freaking bus. He's doing it all!! And is seriously the most positive person ever. If you haven't listened to his podcast, Passion Behind the Art, you should! We've been on a couple times :) Check it out!
In this episode, Darold sits down with Mike Kim. Mike, is a speaker, marketing strategist, and copywriter. Darold describes him as, “a well-endowed man when it comes to branding and building a brand identity.” Academically, Mike excelled in History and English but chose music initially as a career. After four years and with the uncertainty of what to do next, he started a blog that was intended to only be an outlet. The blog, however, gained a following and provided Mike the opportunity to learn about copywriting and how the online world operates. With that discovery and knowledge of marketing, he was able to gain employment as a Chief Marketing Officer with a former employer. With increased knowledge and a strong work ethic, his work was being recognized by many. His likability allowed him to form relationships with individuals who would play a role in his career advancement. Throughout the interview, Mike offers tons of priceless wisdom that will assist one in entering the field of marketing and growing and maintaining your own personal brand. You’ll get to understand why he says, “the framework frames the work.” In addition to all those golden nuggets he provided, he then goes on to discuss his podcasting journey and how he uses that platform as a networking tool for himself and others. You can listen to The Brand You Podcast on all major podcast outlets. This is an episode that you’ll want to download and share, but as always, don’t take my word for it, listen for yourself. DP is back with another great episode and picking the brain of Shane Harris. Shane is a California native. He grew up and attended college in New Mexico earning a degree in Communication and Advertising. He then moved to Colorado for 10 years before settling down in Florida where he works as a designer and illustrator. His decade long career landed various jobs among nonprofit, agencies, churches. He now works in-house at Medi-Share, a Christian HealthCare Ministry, where he combines his faith in God and talents daily to serve their members. The camaraderie between Shane and DP began at Creative South. Creative South is a design conference where individuals come together from different parts of the world to network, support each other and foster ongoing relationships. Their slogan, “Come as friends, leave as family,” is not just great words put together, but an indication of the creator’s desire for everyone to feel accepted, supported and loved. Shane and Darold break down their experiences at the conference, touching on being able to not only meet like-minded individuals but participating in the worship services that the Christian organization leads. Listen as these two swap stories about their Creative South as well as what they are looking forward to at the next event. Happy Listening! On the latest episode of PBTA, Darold introduces us to Erica Pinto. Her creative gift comes in the form of calligraphy and she makes her living as a lettering artist. Erica attended a creative arts high school, but her journey took root in 2015. After the birth of her second son, she decided to get back into drawing with her husband. She drew inspiration from others within the art community on Instagram. Those early attempts at drawing letters and posting them online later resulted in requests for custom pieces. What Erica labels a hobby, has allowed her to make revenue from teaching classes, selling workbooks and creating custom lettering for several companies. She has plans to go further with teaching by allowing online courses for those unable to physically attend her classes. Throughout the interview, you see where her passion lies. You can hear it when she describes what it took to get her where she is currently and what she has her sights set on for the future. She offers advice that can help you at every step of your own personal creative journey as well. Don’t take my word for it though, listen for yourself. Happy Listening! “Anything that you don’t intentionally change will constantly block us.” Darold “DP” Pinnock is kicking off the New Year with yet another great, inspirational episode. As you can already glean from the title, this episode centers around ensuring we take the appropriate steps to get to the future we envisioned for ourselves. It delivers a timely message as the New Year always prompts many to set resolutions that unfortunately never get accomplished. Darold encourages us to take a deeper look within our daily routine to determine is our habits are a factor is dreams not being met. He challenges us to lighten our load as we free ourselves from unnecessary burdens, such as involving ourselves in the business of others. He asks two profound questions that personally have me taking a hard look at myself and my actions: -“Stop and think...what are we doing on a daily basis that doesn’t match where we’re trying to go?” -“What are you doing that you shouldn’t be doing that will constantly break the cycle that will lead you to the future you’d like to have?” This is a message for everyone that has felt confused, frustrated and stagnated in their goal journey. As you listen, my hope and prayer are that it will ignite a newfound zeal to pursue your passion and purpose relentlessly. Happy listening and Happy New Year! SUPPORT THE SHOW! Darold is back with another episode of Passion Behind The Arts and this week he’s sitting down with Nick Longo. Nick Longo is a designer, educator, and one of the co-hosts from The Deeply Graphic DesignCast, one of the first podcasts that highlighted graphic designers. As Nick recalls his childhood, he talks about being drawn to creative toys. He loved to draw, and because he never considered it his strongest skill, he devoted himself to work on ways to better express himself creatively. As a collegiate student, he was introduced to graphic design from one of his best friends. After graduating, he had the opportunity to work closely with an art director who taught him invaluable lessons about timelines and client relations. Another of his jobs would allow him to pay homage to his childhood by giving him the opportunity to design toys. He also talks about the times he took bold steps that resulted in him getting the opportunity to co-host at The Deeply Graphic DesignCast and become a professor at his alma mater. As you listen to this episode, you’ll hear a lot of wisdom as Nick discusses the biggest hurdles he’s had to overcome, letting go of your fear and seizing opportunities and the importance of helping others along the way. On the road to success, every day will not bring sunny skies and smooth pavements. We will have our share of driving on uneven pavements during unfavorable weather. Sometimes, it will get so bad that our visibility will be obstructed and we can’t see down the road. We may start to doubt and wonder, “Should I pull over to the side of the road; should I turn around and go back to where I came from?” In this week’s episode, Darold takes us back to the basics. Back to the beginning stages of our dreams, visions, and plans and reflect. Who and/or what was the motivation behind wanting to pursue our passions? Remembering the reasons allows us to continue journeying on until we reach our destination. As you think about your reasons, write them down so you can have a visual cue to never give up and to keep moving; forward. Happy listening. SUPPORT THE SHOW! Hello everyone, it’s Talent Tuesday here at Passion Behind The Art and this week Darold speaks to hand-lettering artist Hayley Barry. Don’t be deceived by her age; she may only be 22, but her design skills are far beyond her years. At the age of 16, working at an antique store, her sale signs drew clients looking to purchase them instead of the items advertised. When she was 18, due to her tenacity to succeed in the art field, she landed a personal assistant job for a top calligrapher. In addition to doing freelance work, Hayley also conducts workshops and teaches as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University. Not bad for a youngin’ at all. In this episode, Hayley discusses all the ways she makes revenue and the hurdles she had to jump over to stay on track. Her business advice will be beneficial to anyone looking to embark on a business venture. Prepare to be inspired, and as always, Happy Listening! In this episode, Darold sits down with talented illustrator Dave Mottram. So what’s his story you ask? As a child, Mottram grew up watching Sesame Street and reading The Monster At The End of The Book to which he credits sparked his desire to draw. In high school, although he felt like he was an outsider, his drawings provided a way for him to gain access to many groups as they would request him to sketch their images. Few people would or should want to learn to recite Pi to 22,514 decimal places, draw landmarks in breathtaking detail, or remember the contents of 12,000 books. Everyone is different. By refusing to gawp at these feats, preferring instead to focus on the person behind them, Dr Treffert sends out the message that it is the creative, imaginative processes at the root of such abilities that matter most. Only by considering the context of savants’ lives can we more fully and properly understand the gifts that they possess. Dr. Darold Treffert received his medical degree and psychiatric residency training at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. His first position was setting up a Children’s Unit at Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Winnebago, Wisconsin. That is where he met his first savant in 1962. He was a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, Department of Psychiatry for many years. He has written extensively in the professional literature on the rights of the mentally ill, stress management (under the title of Rustproofing People or Mellowing), autism and savant syndrome. In 2016 Agnesian HealthCare, St. Agnes Hospital, established the Treffert Center to preserve and expand Dr. Treffert’s work with savant syndrome and other forms of exceptional brain performance. One of the best parts about running the Start Your Dental Practice podcast is all the interesting opportunities that it has created for me, both personally and professionally. I get emails and phone calls from listeners all the time sharing their successes, failures, and all the big things they want to accomplish. It’s such a great feeling and an incredible honor. On occasion, some listeners will reach out in hopes of coming on the show and to pitch their latest product or service, but as you know, that would go against everything I believe here at SYDP. However, sometimes I get a request from a listener who absolutely blows me away with their story and accomplishments, and that would be today’s guest Dr. Darold Opp. Dr. Darold is a now retired, former practice owner, who was able to see some great success over the years in the dental industry.
