Lucy Biggers is a former climate activist and influencer who spent five years pushing the Green New Deal, plastic bans, and pipeline protests — racking up over 100 million views on Facebook. She interviewed Greta Thunberg and AOC, and helped change how her newsroom referred to climate change. Today, she's the head of social media at the Free Press and one of the most compelling voices explaining how the climate movement captured an entire generation.-In this conversation, we go beyond the usual climate debate and into the psychology of how intelligent, well-meaning people get ideologically captured. Lucy walks us through the groupthink inside left-wing newsrooms, the social enforcement mechanisms that keep people in line, and what it actually took to leave the movement behind.-We break down how the media distorts climate science through a chain of telephone from UN reports to viral memes, why COVID was the first crack in the narrative, and the role that China may have played in weaponising the climate movement against Western energy independence. We also get into the religious psychology underlying climate activism, the anti-human throughline connecting multiple social movements, and why motherhood became the final catalyst for Lucy to speak out.-Get original articles, extended podcasts, and direct access to Blendr News on our Substack Channel:blendrnews.com-This episode is brought to you by The Tallowed Truth. In this episode, we're joined by Lucy Biggers, former climate activist and current Head of Social Media at The Free Press, for a rare inside look at how modern activism becomes psychologically binding—and how difficult it is to leave once your identity, career, and sense of belonging are tied to it. Lucy shares her personal journey from producing viral climate content and amplifying activist narratives to questioning the fear-based assumptions beneath them, unpacking the role of groupthink, moral signaling, nervous system regulation, and social punishment in shaping belief. This is a psychological inquiry into how good intentions can harden into ideology—and what it actually takes to reclaim independent thought, inner authority, and the courage to speak against the crowd.(00:00) Teaser(00:34) Opening Conversation(00:55) Introducing Lucy Biggers(05:57) Lucy's Journey in Climate Activism(09:43) Leaving the Climate Movement(12:15) Rebuilding and Speaking Out(18:42) The Role of Mentors and Personal Growth(35:41) Family Dynamics and Political Differences(36:16) Climate Change Narratives and Skepticism(39:11) Debating Climate Change and Energy Policies(45:16) Critique of Green Energy Solutions(52:12) The Role of Media and Public Perception(01:08:01) Questioning the Basis of Fossil Fuels(01:24:22) AI and WritingGuest Linkshttps://www.instagram.com/lucybiggers/ https://x.com/LLBiggers https://www.tiktok.com/@lucybiggers https://www.thefp.com/ Connect with UsJoin our membership Friends of the TruthRise Above The Herd Take the Real AF Test NowDiscover Your Truth Seeker ArchetypeWatch all our episodesConnect with us on TelegramFollow us on InstagramAccess all our links

In this eye-opening episode, I sit down with Lucy Biggers, a former climate activist who has undergone a remarkable transformation. Lucy shares her journey from being deeply entrenched in climate activism and suffering from climate anxiety to becoming a voice of reason who now creates content to calm people's environmental fears. We explore how documentaries like "An Inconvenient Truth" and her work at NowThis News shaped her initial worldview, and what specific moments during the COVID pandemic made her question the climate movement's demands. Lucy reveals how becoming a mother changed her perspective on the future and why she now advocates for climate realism over alarmism. We discuss the psychological appeal of climate catastrophism, the actual data on extreme weather and climate-related deaths, and how young people are being affected by environmental anxiety. This conversation examines the intersection of environmental concerns with mental health, exploring how catastrophic thinking about climate can impact life decisions about family, career, and personal wellbeing. Lucy offers a refreshing perspective on why humanity's future might be brighter than many believe, and why gratitude for human progress is essential for mental health.Lucy Biggers makes content to calm climate anxiety on her social media and is the Head of Social Media at The Free Press. Nearly thirty years ago, the Biggers were given the worst possible news as parents. Today, Darold and Barbara discuss their distinct grief journeys and how they came to forgive the man who killed their daughter.
In this episode, we speak with Lucy Biggers, head of social media at The Free Press and a former climate activist who has completely rethought the story she was telling the world and herself. Lucy shares how she went from a left-wing digital newsroom steeped in oppressor–oppressed ideology and climate doomsday content to slowly "re-educating" herself, especially after COVID lockdowns made her question what the climate movement was really asking of ordinary people. We talk about how smart, idealistic young people get pulled into movements, from climate activism to "Free Palestine" marches and democratic socialists like AOC and Zohran Mamdani, often in search of purpose, belonging, and someone to blame. Lucy walks us through the emotional cost of changing her mind in public, losing old followers, gaining new ones, and learning to stand on principle instead of group approval. We also go bigger: what's happening in our universities and K–12 schools, the rise of extreme voices on both the woke left and the conspiratorial right, and why Lucy still believes in American exceptionalism, free thinking, and the courage to say, "I was wrong" as an act of wisdom, not shame. The Free Press Key Timestamps + Signature Quotes 00:00 — Introduction & Lucy's Background Quote: "I debunk the fear around climate change because people deserve the truth, not terror." 01:10 — Why We Wanted Lucy On Quote: "So many young people today are operating from a state of fear." — Yelena 01:52 — Lucy's Political Journey Quote: "I lived half my twenties believing America was evil — I was completely swept up in it." 02:30 — Inside the Newsroom Groupthink Quote: "It was ground zero for oppressor–oppressed ideology. We're joined by journalist and former climate activist Lucy Biggers of The Free Press (and formerly NowThis) to talk about the surprising intersection of motherhood and politics, and what happens when we're brave enough to reexamine our deeply held beliefs. Now a mom of two toddlers, Lucy shares how motherhood reshaped her worldview, inviting her to question ideological narratives she once championed. Together, we explore what it means to humbly change your mind in a polarized world and why motherhood often becomes the great equalizer, forcing us to think not in slogans, but in legacy. From fossil fuels and climate activism to the dangers of Marxism and socialism, we navigate some of today's most polarizing conversations with honesty and curiosity. Because when a topic becomes untouchable, we lose our ability to engage, discern, and build a better future for our children. This one's for the mothers (and fathers) willing to hold nuance, question dogma, and plant seeds of truth for the next generation.Support the showJOIN OUR NEW, PRIVATE COMMUNITY! The Free Press's Lucy Biggers went from climate-crisis influencer to climate-alarm denier. Lucy and I talk about her beginnings at NowThis, why climate change doesn't scare us anymore, hipsters bringing back dung stoves, and how all that money celebrities raised to aid the victims of the California fires might as well have burned up. Lucy and I talk about her beginnings at NowThis, why climate change doesn't scare us anymore, hipsters bringing back dung stoves, and how all that money celebrities raised to aid the victims of the California fires might as well have burned up. Lucy Biggers once campaigned for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, spotting her influence before anyone else. Today, she's sounding the alarm about AOC's political heir, Zohran Mamdani. In this candid conversation, we explore why Zohran Mamdani's message resonates with so many — including people like us — and why his solutions fall short. From housing costs and generational frustration to the future of populist politics, this is a conversation about shared concerns, different answers, and what happens when the Left stops listening. If you've ever wondered why political movements can inspire and disappoint in equal measure, or how we can address real problems without sacrificing our principles, you'll want to hear this.
Today, we're joined by Lucy Biggers, former climate influencer for Now This and producer of a viral 2018 AOC campaign video, to share her dramatic shift from progressive activism to rejecting climate alarmism and socialism. Lucy reveals how marriage, motherhood, and the events of 2020 reshaped her views, exposing the anti-human myths of the climate movement. We dive into her regrets over amplifying Standing Rock, the hypocrisy of socialist policies like Zohran Mamdani's, and why she now champions human flourishing over guilt-driven ideology. In this episode, I talked with Lucy Biggers. Lucy is a Social Media Editor at The Free Press and has written several articles for The Free Press. She was formerly a “climate change” activist and avid supporter of progressive politicians and ideology. In our conversation we discussed her upbringing, how she came to be a progressive, and her conversion to a more Conservative worldview. We talked about how she helped get Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez get elected and how she pushed the “climate change” narrative in The United States and abroad — even going as far as to interview Greta Thunberg. We discussed how she began to notice the logical cracks in her Marxist worldview and why she has just now started speaking up against liberal policy and ideology. In June she wrote an article for The Free Press called ‘I Helped AOC Win. I Understand the Fantasy Zohran Is Selling.'We talked about this article and how to change the minds of the upcoming generations who seem to be stuck in a progressive black hole. I hope you enjoy! To Sanford Biggers, the past, present, and future are intertwined and all part of one big, long now. Over the past three decades, the Harlem-based artist has woven various threads of place and time—in ways not dissimilar to a hip-hop D.J. or a quilter—to create clever, deeply metaphorical, darkly humorous, and often beautiful work across a vast array of mediums, including painting, sculpture, video, photography, music, and performance. Among his standout works are “Oracle” (2021), a 25-foot-tall cast bronze sculpture that combines a Greco-Roman form with an African mask; his “BAM” series (2015) of gunshot statuettes; and his ongoing “Codex” series of quilts, which have, over his past decade of making them, become an especially potent and ritualistic part of his art-making.On this episode, Biggers talks about the influence that musicians such as Mahalia Jackson, Ray Charles, and Stevie Wonder have had on his art; why he thinks of himself as a “material polyglot”; and why religious and spiritual works like reliquaries, shrines, and “power objects” are the bedrock of his practice.Special thanks to our Season 8 sponsor, Van Cleef & Arpels.Show notes:[00:26] Sanford Biggers[03:55] “Sanford Biggers with Yasi Alipour”[07:14] “The Playful, Political Art of Sanford Biggers”[12:34] Moon Medicin[13:36] Mahalia Jackson[13:39] Ray Charles[13:40] Charles Mingus[13:41] Thelonious Monk[15:32] Stevie Wonder[16:06] Prince[18:00] Dick Gregory[18:01] Richard Pryor[18:02] Redd Foxx[18:47] “BAM” series[27:17] “re:mancipation”[29:05] Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture[30:08] John Biggers[31:41] “Codeswitch” at the California African American Museum[33:28] Dr. Leslie King-Hammond[33:30] Maryland Institute College of Art[37:47] University High School[38:23] Morehouse College[38:33] Art Institute of Chicago[47:34] Isamu Noguchi[47:36] Martin Puryear[49:06] “Lotus”[50:31] “Orin”[55:52] “Meet Me on the Equinox”[55:52] “Back to the Stars”
