DAY NINETEEN - Be Helpful, Selfie shares a Santa Secret, Listener messages, News and more Selfie shares the secret to how Santa's sleigh is powered!  We get some listener messages today, Big news out of the North Pole and Santa is caught napping! We learn about being helpful today are you a helpful person? Do you help others?  Helping provides them the opportunity to grow up to be a better person. when we help others we build up our character. Christmas is often associated with giving and sharing. There is nothing more meaningful and fulfilling then to be generous to those in need especially this time of the year. This is why Christmas is also the best time to help others. Here are five reasons why helping others will actually benefit everyone: 1. Helping others will help us to see life differently. Helping others will allow them us to see the world beyond our daily life. Being helpful will help to teach us to be thankful for what we do have and to be happy in the simple things. This Christmas, help them realize this by donating their old toys to someone that does not have what we have. 2. Helping others will teach us about sharing Sharing their time, talent and treasures will help them realize that Christmas is not about how much they will receive but how much they can give. That whatever material or financial “excesses” we may have in life will have more meaning when shared with others in need. 3. Helping others makes us aware of our community Make it a Christmas tradition to do random acts of kindness such as giving a bottle of water to a tired security guard in a mall or sending a greeting card to a neighbor or friend who may be alone this season. 4. Helping others creates more compassion and humility. we need to learn to care. Being exposed to helping others will help us to be humble instead of thinking too highly of ourselves. We will also learn to be more sensitive to the needs of others rather than being too pre-occupied with what will only benefit them. Make a list together as a family of the people they wish to help and how they think they can help them. 5. Helping others will lead to real happiness. Helping others creates happiness for all. Knowing that we have made another person happy will allow everyone to experience real joy in their hearts. Try this! Try being a “secret Santa” to one person that you wish to make happy. Start with someone in your family, or a neighbor, or even a playmate. you are never too young or too old to be helpful Santa is watching, let's be helpful today! Selfie, how do you help others? This episode is part two of my two-part series, where I share my story of 22 days on the John Muir Trail. I get raw and vulnerable about the second half of our trip, where we thought we would have to turn around. However, we woke up to beautiful blue skies and were able to move forward.  Day twelve was a long and challenging hike. There are so many of us from the trail family that made it. Watching the sunset on a mountain was totally epic. I learned so many things from the trail today. First, be present. When things get hard, stop, and take a breath. Then, look around and witness the beautiful things around you.  Day thirteen and we are sitting in the John Muir hut; it’s so spiritual. “I care to live only to entice people to look at nature’s loveliness.” -John Muir. I believe that we cross each other’s paths for a reason - we learn from one another. I’m so thankful for every moment that has led me to this present time.  Day fourteen was a lot of elevation in a concise amount of time. However, the view is just insane – mountains surround me while I’m sitting on top of a mountain. This entire trip has been full of trail magic. Trail magic is when you surrender to things that are happening. For instance, I wore through two pairs of socks, and I magically found a pair.  Stay tuned as I update you on day fifteen through twenty-two of my journey. Whether it's a personal coach, a friend, our mom, or a simple email read, perspective and motivation can come in the most ordinary of ways. We know you're busy, you know we're busy, but we're inviting you to carve time, 5 minutes at most, out of your day to talk to yourself. Wait, what? Yes. I'm serious. Holy crap it is hot. Every day Janice & Dan have been in Colorado it has topped 100 degrees and while the AC is (thankfully) working in the trailer, everything else is really starting to heat up. Sure, it might be a dry heat but so is your oven on full blast. Living in a campground that's cooking under an unrelenting sun brings in some odors. And some of them are starting to come from the trailer itself. Plus, the whole family beats the heat by going bowling and that gets Janice & Dan thinking back to how they first met. You want their origin story? It involves Mexican wrestling, cuts of meat, and bowling.

We are continuing our 30 Days of Gratitude!  If you missed the scoop about why we’re celebrating, be sure to check out Episode One.  Yesterday, we talked about being grateful even in darkness. Today, we’re going to be discussing Day Nineteen’s topic: When Your Pillar Falls. When I sat down to write my book, this was most definitely the most difficult chapter.  Why?  Because it’s about the death of my grandma.  To this day, I have never met a person who was as down for me as my grandma was.  When no one else in the world had my back, she did.  She was absolutely everything to me.   When she died, I thought my world was going to end.  I KNEW she was gonna die.  I knew she was gonna die on that day two months before she died.  I wrote someone a letter and told them that my grandma was gonna die on December 15th.  I knew it.  However, that didn’t make it any easier.  That was the greatest loss my life has ever felt - but the good thing is that it taught me that I can get through any other loss I’ll ever face. In life, we have pillars.  We have people, places and things that we really need.  We have people who constantly and consistently support us, no matter what.  We have places we can always go to unwind or make ourselves feel better.  We have things that are always in place to help us along the way.  However…  Sometimes those pillars fall.  And when they do, how you respond will make or break you. In my book, I tell the story of Moses and Joshua.  Moses served the Lord with all his heart and completed his assignment in the physical world, and then, he died.  Joshua was his successor.  Joshua had followed Moses for years, and now it was time for him to stand in his footsteps.  This is how the New Living Translation of the Bible records it: “After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said,  “Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them.  I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—  from the Negev wilderness in the south to the Lebanon mountains in the north, from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west, including all the land of the Hittites.’  No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.   “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.  Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.  This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:1-9   God knew that Joshua was going to have a hard time adjusting… but when you understand how much God believes in you and is pulling for you, you have no choice but to move forward - and that’s exactly what Joshua did.  His pillar fell, but he adjusted and walked into his new assignment.  And today, I’m encouraging you to do the same.  Whether it is the loss of a job, a friend, a family member or a place - just know that God is with you wherever you go.  Today and always.  That’s our one thing to be grateful for.  Even when you walk through the valley by yourself, you’re not alone.  Remember that… and be grateful.  ♥ Have an amazing day today.  Show love to yourself AND others.  Be GREAT!  I speak life to you and everyone and everything connected to you!  Catch me tomorrow!   XOXO, Na'Kole ♥
