The polls are broken. The stakes are unprecedented. And the future of democracy, like it or not, hinges on one thing – VIBES. Vibes Only is here to check the vibes of American politics and break down the need-to-know news of the week. And while one of the two major parties in the country has overwhelmingly embraced a right-wing movement whose whole vibe is undermining democracy and social progress, it’s clear we need voices that can meet voters where they are and clearly and effectively call that BS out for what it is.Co-host Brian Derrick has earned a reputation for his ability to break down political news and define the stakes to his sizable and dedicated social media audience. Co-host Glennis Meagher is a digital media savant who has built platforms to encourage millennials and gen z to engage with politics, some for the first time. Even when the news of the week could easily kill the vibe, Brian and Glennis are like those needed friends that have the unique ability to keep it real AND pull us out of a doom spiral.New episodes of Vibes Only are available on Wednesdays wherever you get your podcasts.
In the final episode of Vibes Only, Brian and Glennis look back at some of the most consequential moments of the 2024 election cycle. In a truly unprecedented year, so much happened in a short time - so it's easy to forget the many many things that would've been unusual in any other election year. They also respond to the many many messages of support you shared last week and reflect on what it's meant to share these episodes with you each week throughout the year. Donald Trump is closing with the message that he knows best. His campaign crescendoed this week with a dark, racist, hate-filled rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris continues to barnstorm battleground states, and on Tuesday night, she drew a sharp contrast by giving an inspiring speech in Washington DC - at the same location Trump gave his infamous January 6th speech. We dive into the messages and strategies of the two campaigns in these final DAYS. We also discuss the decisions by the billionaire owners of the Washington Post and the LA Times to break precedent and not endorse a presidential candidate in this critical election. As always, we play It's Giving, pull up our group chat, and leave you with a good vibe. Send us a text!Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts! If you enjoy the show, spread the word! Whether it's Harris barely up, or so-called movement that suggests Trump gaining ground, the polls have consistently said the same thing... This election is going to be close. Still, the media will follow the horse race closely and look for any signs that point to "trouble" for Harris. That's why we're here to keep you grounded in what matters: turnout and persuading the undecided voters in swing states that will determine who wins this election. Those are the same reasons that the Vice President is continuing her media blitz in unfamiliar territory... On Tuesday, she did an event with Charlamagne tha God. On Wednesday, Fox News will air an interview she did with Bret Baier. And she's also rumored to be at least entertaining making an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast. We break all that down and talk about the appeals she's making to black men and Trump-cautious Republicans. We also get into Trump's fascist threats in our It's Giving segment, pull up our group chat, and leave you with a good vibe. Send us a text!Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts! Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate, Governor Tim Walz, are on a serious media blitz right now - hitting popular podcasts like Call Her Daddy and Smartless as well as mainstream programs like 60 Minutes and The View. Which of these are giving the campaign the most bang for their buck? And which outlets are giving its audience the most information about who these candidates are? With so much at stake in this election where a qualified candidate is facing a convicted felon who incited an insurrection after losing the 2020 election, is the traditional media adequately meeting this moment? In this episode, Brian Derrick and Glennis Meagher tackle these questions and more. They also discuss Liz Cheney's endorsement of Harris, Jack Smith's bombshell filing, and Elon Musk's midriff moment. Send us a text!Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts! We check in on the vibes of the Vice Presidential debate between Governor Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance. Rachel Maddow may have said it best when she said, "one was smooth, the other won." That's because, while to some, JD Vance came off as smooth - he lied about a number of issues including on immigration, healthcare, climate and energy. He also failed to definitively say that he'd honor the results of a free and fair election. Meanwhile, Tim Walz was strong on gun safety, reproductive rights, healthcare, democracy and more. Stay tuned for a round of it's giving, a group chat chat, and a good vibe goodbye. Send us a text!Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts! If you enjoy the show, spread the word! If you're feeling a disconnect between the vibes and the polls, this episode is for you. Brian and Glennis share stories from their door-knocking experience in a Pennsylvania swing district, and give some important updates from the key battleground states that will ultimately decide this election. And yes, that means we get into the whackiest political story (ever?) and discuss how gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has done his part to help Dems potentially flip North Carolina. All that before we play an it's giving, pull up our group chat and leave you with a good vibe. Tune in next week as we break down the VP-debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz. This episode of Vibes Only is brought to you by Oath. Visit oath.vote to learn about maximizing the impact of political donations. The vibes this week: Of course - there was another failed assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump. Also on Sunday, Trump seemed to have an out-of-nowhere delayed reaction to Taylor Swift's endorsement of Harris, taking to Truth Social to type “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Early polls indicate a post-debate bump for Harris, and her campaign reported a $47 million fundraising haul int he 24 hours after the debate (her biggest day since she launched her campaign in July). And the House GOP is once again playing games with the budget, suggesting they'll attach the "SAVE Act" to the budget that they say is designed to keep "non-citizens" from voting (not an actual problem with our elections), threatening a potential government shutdown in less than two weeks if they can't pass a CR. In it's giving, we discuss JD's shocking admission that he "creates stories" of convenience to make a media narrative (Haitian migrants in Springfield, OH are NOT "eating the dogs"). In the group chat we talk about Nicky Jam, Laura Loomer, door knocking, and more. Send us a text!Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts! If you enjoy the show, spread the word! The vibes are high after an epic debate performance from VP Kamala Harris. We break down the highlights, lowlights (Trump's many lies), and the stark contrast between the candidates on stage on Tuesday night. And... America's favorite "childless cat lady" broke her silence and weighed in on the race. Listen in for a live reaction to Taylor Swift's official endorsement of the vice president in this episode. Donald Trump has been going way off his advisors' scripts - going all in on personal attacks and promoting content one would expect to find only in the darkest corners of the internet. And on reproductive rights, he's struggling to even find the right script. This week, we are pleased to be joined by Deja Foxx. Deja is an activist, political strategist, and founder of GenZ Girl Gang. At age 19, she became the youngest staffer and first Influencer and Surrogate Strategist on U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris' 2020 presidential campaign. Last week at the DNC, she became the very first content creator to speak at the convention. The vibes this week: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has suspended his fire sale of a campaign and endorsed the highest bidder - Donald Trump. The Harris campaign and Trump campaign have sparred over muted or unmuted mics and Trump is whining about the host network, ABC. On Meet the Press, JD Vance said Trump has been "clear" that he would note impose a national abortion ban (false) and that he would even veto legislation (highly unlikely) which is still being pushed by Senate Republicans like Lindsey Graham and gang. So he finally re-agreed to the September 10 debate on ABC, and he broke his silence on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) which included a bizarre, rambling conversation between he and billionaire Elon Musk. Project 2025 is also back in the news this week as ProPublica found and published the training videos they produced to advise future Trump administration appointees on how to implement its radical agenda. Join the group chat! Send us a text! The vibes this week... Days after former President Donald Trump was struck in a mass shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania, he named Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate. Brian and Glennis discuss the political reactions to the Trump rally shooting and the VP pick representing, perhaps, the most radical ticket in U.S. history. Join the group chat! Send us a text! The vibes this week are... oof. SCOTUS has both granted Trump broad immunity and overturned the Chevron deference. We catch up on last week's debate: from Biden's performance and the reactions of pundits, strategists, donors, and voters who will decide this election to the much less discussed topic of Trump's endless unchecked lies.Stick around for an it's giving, group chat, and a much needed good vibe goodbye. Join the group chat! Send us a text! The polls are still (hopefully?) broken. The stakes are more unprecedented than ever. Last week, the Supreme Court unanimously protected the abortion pill, mifepristone (for now), but didn't close the door to hear new cases involving plaintiffs “with standing.” They also protected bump stocks, a tool that effectively turns a semi-automatic rifle into a machine gun. Now Senate Republicans are playing games and blocking Senate Democrats' attempts to write the TRUMP ban into law. We get into the games the NRA and Republicans have played since that ban was put into effect in 2017. Continuing with SCOTUS, Brian and Glennis catch up on the drama with the Alitos and their extremist, vindictive ideologies laid bare in a secret audio recording. Then, they talk about the latest example of Sinclair Broadcasting Group pushing scripts with a national political agenda onto local news outlets across the country. Finally, they discuss Democrats' strategy leading into the ‘24 election - how the Biden campaign is messaging on his own record, plans, and the contrast with his opponent (a convicted felon). And the vibes this week: We learned this weekend that The Washington Post knew about nod to Stop the Steal at Justice Samuel Alito's house in January of 2021 but decided it...wasn't worth mentioning to the public. A number of media outlets, pundits and Dem strategists have been recently sounding the alarms - POLITICO saying Dems are in "full-blown freakout" mode over Biden's chances in '24. The New York Times wrote an article about the role that "tuned-out" Trump-curious voters will have on the election. And Dan Pfeiffer wrote in his newsletter, The Message Box, that TikTok is helping elect Donald Trump. Also, in a week that we could see the first criminal conviction of an American president, the New York Times published a story titled "Trump Leans Into an Outlaw Image as His Criminal Trial Concludes"We get into all that before pulling up our group chat, playing an "it's giving" and leaving you with a good vibe. Not a judge or a jury. Not fake electors. Nope. The ‘24 election and the fate of democracy hinges on… say it with us… Vibes. The vibes this week:Joe Biden signed a foreign aid bill into which also included a forced sale of TikTok. Donald Trump faced a litany of legal battles including the 2016 Election Interference (hush money) trial which is underway, a hearing on whether he is in contempt of the court for violating his gag order, and he (and his cronies - Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani) were named un-indicted conspirators in TWO State's false elector's plots (MI and AZ). In addition to ALL OF THAT, SCOTUS heard his "immunity" claim.Speaking of SCOTUS, they also heard a case to decide whether women could receive (and doctors could give) an abortion in case of EMERGENCY in state's with bans. Finally, we discuss two prominent, legacy GOP politicians who took the same information about Donald Trump and his attempts to steal the 2020 election, and even arrived at the same conclusions, but made two very different choices for how to handle the upcoming 2024 presidential election. That's Bill Barr and Liz Cheney.Listen for all that, a round of IT'S GIVING, a stop in our GROUP CHAT, and a GOOD VIBE to say goodbye on. SPECIAL GUEST to talk through the vibes of the week: Katie Grossbard. Katie is an attorney, founding member of I am a voter and This is About Humanity. She is a digital creator that aims to empower people to be more informed and less overwhelmed. We love that. Brian, Glennis and Katie talk about Trump's Easter meltdown coupled with right-wing media's freakout over the Trans Day of Visibility landing on Easter Sunday and their insistence that everything they don't like — including the Baltimore bridge accident – is all Biden's fault. They also discuss a new by the Florida Supreme Court that upends decades of legal precedent and will effectively allow for a 6-week abortion ban in the State. But they also said a proposed amendment to protect abortion access can appear on the ballot. We'll talk about what it all means for abortion seekers in the state and for the 2024 election. They'll talk about some shocking literature produced by extremists from The Heritage Foundation and a publication called The American Conservative that lays out the right-wing agenda. All that before IT'S GIVING, a GROUP CHAT, and a GOOD VIBE GOODBYE. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments for FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, a case involving mifepristone or "the abortion pill" as it's come to be known. Brian and Glennis discuss why this case, as they suggest could be the most consequential abortion case since ROE. They then discuss the whirlwind week that saw NBC hire election-denying former RNC Chair, Ronna McDaniel, a public revolt from its on-air staff, and a reversal on the hire. Next, they give updates on two Trump cases: the civil fraud case which he was given a big win in getting his bond lowered from $454 million to $175 million with an extension; and the hush-money trial which has been set to begin on April 15. That will make him the first former President ever to face a criminal trial. They also discuss the Biden team's plan to prevent Trump and his allies from trying to steal the 2024 election. Finally, a round of it's giving, a voice memo in the group chat, and a good vibe good-bye. Subscribe to Vibes Only wherever you get your podcasts (probably wherever you're reading this). This week on Vibes Only Brian and Glennis talk about Donald Trump's unhinged rally in Ohio where he said migrants were “not people” but rather “animals.” He also said there would be a “bloodbath” (“least of” which for autoworkers) if he didn't win the election, and in a flip-the-script strategy, said that Joe Biden is a threat to democracy. They also discuss what should possibly be the biggest story of 2024 - which is - Donald Trump's former Vice President, Mike Pence, refusing to endorse him. But first… they discuss the TikTok House bill and the discourse online about a possible ban, and a case heard this week by the Supreme Court with major implications for the government's ability to weigh in on misinformation on social media platforms. Joe Biden delivered a powerful State of the Union address last week. Democratic Strategist, Keith Edwards, joins Brian and Glennis to talk about how the speech reset the vibes and set the tone for the general election. They also discuss: Biden's proposed 2025 budget, Trump's willingness to cut “entitlements” such as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, and a bill that in the House that would ban TikTok in the United States, perhaps forcing the Chinese company, ByteDance, to sell the platform. Senate Republicans and Democrats are reportedly nearing a bipartisan border deal. Trump called the deal “a disaster” without knowing what's in it because, as Senate Republicans have admitted, it would weaken his grievance that Biden is ineffective on the border. Also: Nikki Haley is going into attack mode. Is it too little too late? How will her Trump digs age if she eventually bends the knee?Taylor Swift's boyfriend, also known as Travis Kelce (hehe), is heading to the Super Bowl. The New York Times published a story that said Biden's campaign is seeking a Swift endorsement (duh), and conservatives are losing their minds and coming up with some…interesting conspiracy theories. Ben Shapiro is topping the RAP charts. A Nikki Haley donor wrote and published the cringiest song (ever?)A good vibe: Biden told the DOE to pause approvals for new liquified natural gas. New Hampshire results are in with the expected results taking the headlines. Donald Trump won the GOP primary, while Joe Biden, who wasn't even on the ballot (we explain why) overwhelmingly won with an organized write-in campaign. Nikki Haley performed better than expected and vows to stay in the race. We break down the results, hot off the presses and also discuss: Ron DeSantis' early exit from the race earlier this week, and his epic failure of a campaign. Some consequential cases heard before the Supreme Court this week that could upend the Chevron deference. Jesse Watters and Marjorie Taylor Greene's post-election confusion/delusions. The Iowa caucus was so noncompetitive that the story the media were selling was not who would win, but who would place second. Trump did indeed dominate, as expected. Networks called the race about 30 minutes into the process - before most votes were cast. We'll break down the Iowa caucus results, and what the numbers suggest (if anything) about the general election. We'll also discuss: The stopgap bill, agreed to by Congressional leaders including Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Mike Johnson, to potentially keep the government open. The House Freedom Caucus response to said bill. The Emmys: RuPaul, Neicy Nash. The bipartisan bill that would expand the child tax credit, and more. INTRODUCING: VIBES ONLY. First episode drops on January 10, 2024!ABOUT: The polls are broken. The stakes are unprecedented. And the future of democracy, like it or not, hinges on one thing – VIBES. Vibes Only is here to check the vibes of American politics and break down the need-to-know news of the week. And while one of the two major parties in the country has overwhelmingly embraced a right-wing movement whose whole vibe is undermining democracy and social progress, it's clear we need voices that can meet voters where they are and clearly and effectively call that BS out for what it is. Co-host Brian Derrick has earned a reputation for his ability to break down political news and define the stakes to his sizable and dedicated social media audience. Co-host Glennis Meagher is a digital media savant who has built platforms to encourage millennials and gen z to engage with politics, some for the first time. Even when the news of the week could easily kill the vibe, Brian and Glennis are like those needed friends that have the unique ability to keep it real AND pull us out of a doom spiral. New episodes of Vibes Only will be available on Wednesdays wherever you get your podcasts.
