The Nats lost 6-1 on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh. Mark (Live from PNC Park) & Al recap the hectic bottom of the 7th that saw the benches & bullpens clear shortly before an Oneil Cruz Grand Slam broke the game open.  Jorge Lopez was ejected after throwing inside on Andrew McCutchen and that was presumed to be retaliation for Paul DeJong getting hit by a pitch in the face on Tuesday night.(13:10) The Cruz Grand Slam came against Eduardo Salazar who relieved  the ejected Lopez.  Salazar has had a bad series and his ERA this season is a staggering 7.56.  Salazar has options remaining and is a candidate to be demoted in the near future.(17:00) Mitchell Parker had a fourth straight quality start to begin his 2025.  The lefty only allowed one run in six innings of work on Wednesday.  Parker's ERA is an extremely impressive 1.85 and has been the team's best pitcher so far.(20:10) Davey Martinez confirmed that DJ Herz has undergone Tommy John surgery and is out for the year.  Herz was placed on the IL just a few days prior to Opening Day.(23:00) The hosts reset the ever increasing increasing amount of injuries within the organization.

The Nats have now won three in a row after defeating the defending World Series champion Dodgers 6-4 on Monday night in Navy Yard.  Mark & Al discuss MacKenzie Gore's solid outing where he only allowed a pair of runs in six innings of work.  Those two LA runs came off of a Shohei Ohtani 2-run HR, part of his evening where he was a double shy from the cycle.(10:00) Kyle Finnegan not only got the save, but took care of the final five outs.  He has recorded the final out in three consecutive days and in all likelihood will be unavailable on Tuesday.(17:10) James Wood homered for the first time this season to put Washington ahead 5-2. Wood was removed in the top of the 9th for defensive purposes by Jacob Young even though Wood was on deck if the Dodgers forced a bottom of the 9th.(22:10) Keibert Ruiz had a RBI double to extend the lead to 6-2.  Ruiz's strong start to the season continues as his OPS is currently at .981.(25:00) There were more instances of runners getting thrown out on base and three Nats have been tagged out at home in the past two days.  This has an ongoing issue over the past few seasons.(30:30) Brad Lord will start for the injury plagued pitching staff on Tuesday and Jackson Rutledge will likely come into relieve him. Lord was a starter in the minors and transitioned to a reliever during Spring Training.  This is a chain reaction to Michael Soroka getting placed on the IL shortly after DJ Herz did as well.(36:20) Josh Whetzel, the Voice of the AAA-Rochester Red Wings, provides an update on Brady House, Robert Hassell III, Darren Baker, and more.

The Nats bullpen let them down on their way to a season opening 7-3 loss in extra innings vs. the visiting Phillies. Mark & Al start with a major positive for Washington as MacKenzie Gore set a franchise Opening Day record with 13 strikeouts. Gore was fantastic as he did not issue any walks and only gave up one hit.(10:30) Keibert Ruiz homered off of Zack Wheeler and threw out a runner trying to steal 2nd base.  Davey Martinez mentioned pregame that Ruiz lost weight in the offseason and he was pleased with his Spring.(17:00) Jacob Young was caught stealing despite James Wood at the plate with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning.(21:15) Opening Day was not a good one for the Nationals bullpen as five relievers combined to allow seven runs in just four innings of work. Colin Poche really struggled in his first outing with the Nats as he gave up four Philadelphia runs in the top of the 10th to put the game out of reach.(27:45) Derek Law will begin the season the 15-Day IL due to right forearm inflammation. Mark explains what led to him not being ready to pitch for Washington on Opening Day.(32:00) The Nationals were dealt bad news this week as DJ Herz was added to the 60-Day IL and is getting a 2nd opinion on his sprained elbow ligament that could lead to Tommy John surgery. Al notes that this continues a troubling pattern of a pitcher getting a significant injury at some point in Spring Training.

For the third straight game the Nationals couldn't plate a run in their 3-0 loss to Kansas City on Wednesday night. Mark & Al dive into the continuing offensive ineptitude as the team is now 8-14 in September. (07:00) The lack of runs leads to re-visiting the conversation about the decision in August to bring back the entire coaching staff in 2025. (14:10) DJ Herz only allowed one run in his start of the season. Herz was called up in early June to replace the injured Trevor Williams and ended the year with an ERA of 4.16 (22:45) Cade Cavalli was at the stadium on Wednesday and Mark gives an update after the right hander met with the media. How much was this missed season due a to "dead arm"? (31:00) Thursday afternoon will be Patrick Corbin's final start in a Washington uniform and it will be interesting to see how the home crowd receives him when he exits the game. The Nats were pummeled 10-0 on Wednesday night to conclude the sweep at the hands of the Mets. Mark (From Citi Field) & Al convene after Washington finished a paltry 2-11 vs. New York this season and the Mets maintain a two game lead over the Braves from the NL's Wild Card spot. The Nationals remain stuck at 68 wins and need to go 4-6 the rest of the way to exceed last season's win total. (14:00) DJ Herz was cruising through the initial innings, but the wheels came off in the bottom of the 4th. New York scored 9 runs in the frame and 7 of them came at the expense of the lefty. The big inning was a very costly one to Herz as it raised his ERA by over half of a run (4.30). (21:00) Jose Quintana threw 7 scoreless innings for the third time this season against Washington. The offense only mustered three hits and two of them came from CJ Abrams. (27:15) It was a big day in Single-A as Travis Sykora won Carolina Pitcher of the Year, then pitched well on the mound for the Fred Nats, and the evening finished with a League Championship. Mark (From NYC) & Al react to Mitchell Parker's rough outing, that saw him allow five runs in under four innings of work and make yet another mental error in the field. Parker did not properly cover 1st base on a grounder to the right side and Mark explains the severity of this deficiency for Parker's long term career outlook. Parker's ERA is up to 4.44 after making 28 starts in his rookie season. (16:00) Zach Brzykcy was one of the call-ups from Rochester, but has struggled mightily since making the majors. Brzykcy allowed three runs in an inning of work and is in danger of being sent back to AAA. Tanner Rainey meanwhile threw a scoreless inning and has really improved his performance in the past few months. (20:10) Dylan Crews had three of the teams' four hits while hitting in the 7th spot. (09:00) Dylan Crews filled the box score with a homer, double, walk, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a pair of stolen bases. Crews already has three homers in under two weeks of play. These were Crews' first games in Pittsburgh since the Pirates passed over him in last summer's draft. (11:45) Kyle Finnegan's first save of the afternoon was an adventure that ended with a 6-4-3 double play to preserve the 5-3 win. (15:00) CJ Abrams inexplicably didn't complete the tag in a rundown in the bottom of the 8th of Game 2. This led to the Pirates briefly taking a two run lead before Washington's 9th inning rally. (19:30) The Nats scored four runs in the top of the 9th and batted around on their way to an 8-6 victory. The big hit belonged to Ildemaro Vargas, who's 2-run go ahead single put his team ahead for good. The rally began with Juan Yepez and many young hitters contributed to the late comeback. (27:10) Mitchell Parker struggled right away and was removed in the bottom of the 4th. Parker has not pitched well recently and has admitted that he has been "out of sync". The Nats fell 5-3 on Saturday afternoon against the Cubs to conclude August at 61-75 overall. Herz was outstanding in the opening four frames, but the wheels came off in the top of 5th, where he allowed four Chicago runs. (09:00) Drew Millas committed a crucial error in the top of the 7th in a rare start behind the plate. Millas did well offensively however as he came through with a pair of singles. (12:10) Dylan Crews best play of the game came in the top of the 8th when he threw out Seiya Suzuki at the plate. Crews meanwhile with the bat came away with a just single in the loss. (17:45) Jose Tena continued his surge at the plate with a trio of singles, but was one of the two Nationals who made an out on the bases in the bottom of the 6th. Tena was called up three weeks ago and is hitting .305 in that span. (30:00) Jacob Young didn't have the best game with his glove, but did appropriately double in the final game of the month. Herz has made seven starts in the majors this year and his ERA is at 3.84. (08:30) Eduardo Salazar recorded five outs out of the bullpen and has not allowed a run in ten appearances this month. Salazar was acquired off the waiver wire in June after Seattle let him go. (12:00) Jacob Young had a pair of hits and scored a run in the victory.
