We talk about why we're willing to talk about taboo issues and address issues often not talked about.
Dan Waldschmidt is a renowned business strategist, author, keynote speaker, and ultra-runner, with one of his achievements being the 10th person to run Everest. He helps business leaders build their strategies in a way that affords them time to live life outside of work. Dan also wrote the book, Edgy Conversations, where he imparted wisdom that aims to make readers rethink their definition of success and show them how successful leaders do it. Dan joins me today to share his thoughts on how people define success and how they equate it with material possessions and luxury. He explains the negative effects of trying to be like our heroes and having a mindset of who we think we should be. He discusses how you can progress in life even when what you're doing isn't awesome to other people. Dan also describes the importance of meditation and breathing exercises. "It is the truth that just working hard isn't good enough to get you where you want to be." - Dan Waldschidt Today on Mastering Midlife: How consumerism is slowly causing us to lose our vigor. Why chasing our heroes can be impractical and demotivating. The kind of conversation we should be having all over the world. What it feels like to be stuck and how to get out of this state. Not appearing to be doing something awesome, but doing something that feels awesome. Why you shouldn't have a mindset of what you should be. How you can be honest with yourself and other people in your life. Why you should meditate and how it helps you during a busy day. Knowing someone's state of mind just by their breathing. Nian Fiedler, the show's producer, joins Christie to do a quick introduction to another gem from the past. See how this episode takes on a whole new meaning when looking back through the lens of Covid. Surrender. It's a word that might evoke thoughts of defeat, or giving up. But today's guest will explain how surrendering yourself is freeing, and can inspire you to push yourself to new levels of performance. Dan Waldschmidt is someone very familiar with pushing himself. Ultra-marathoner, business strategist and owner of Edgy Conversations joins Jeff and Christie to discuss the philosophy of the book, The Surrender Experiment. Instead of fighting life, you can release control and surrender to whatever life brings your way, which decreases fear and anxiety over the things you can't change. But Dan reminds us that you have to push yourself to do all that you can, in order to let go and accept the results that follow. Don't miss this fascinating conversation that can change every facet of your life. PLUS! Hear Dan's memorable metaphor for why he's quitting social media Find out more about Dan and Edgy here We have a LinkedIn Community where we're posting clips and having discussions about the episodes. On this episode of The RAS Project, I sat down with two of the most amazing individuals I've had the pleasure to interview during the 6-year tenure of this podcast. Dan Waldschidt doesn’t just talk about leveling up. He’s obsessed with it. He's set records as an ultra-runner and been the personal strategist for the leading business leaders of our time. He wrote a book, called EDGY Conversations that accidentally became a worldwide bestseller and continues to share his insights from the stage as a keynote speaker and on his blog and podcast. Most days, you'll find Dan heads-down, working on breakthrough strategies for his clients at EDGY Inc, a highly-focused, invite-only, business strategy execution company based out of Silicon Valley. Jill Stelfox knows what it takes to win at the highest levels of business. She’s driven to lead teams that make an impact on the world. Whether it’s creating a new category of wireless technology to protect teachers in schools or driving international expansion for one of the world’s largest consulting companies, she refuses to accept mediocrity. Jill has a knack for looking at a business and being able to match their product with a market and create value, both in terms of revenue growth and shareholder growth. She’s very competitive and loves crafting the process of winning… not just the win itself. Along the way, she’s raised over $50 million for her own start-ups, and returned over $1 billion to investors by selling her companies. Let's just say that there's not enough space in this description to list out the extensive bios and accomplishments of both of these rockstars. The RAS Project is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeartRadio. You can also watch in video on my YouTube channel and Facebook Watch.

[00:10] Welcome Dan Waldschmidt of Edgy Conversations - international best-selling author, business strategist, speaker and extreme athlete to Ashley Talks [01:00] What is the story of Dan? How did he arrive in Asia? The unfair advantage of being raised by strict parents who forced him to learn and be disciplined, reading 3,000 books and learning early on that he was good at growing businesses [06:20] You have to love to learn with so much information out there - people make the mistake of getting locked in, "I already know, I don't want your advice", which holds them back from learning. But if you learn, there's so much greatness for you and no limit to your capability [08:40] Business leaders don't set aside time to be quiet - take a step back and quietly look at what's really going on and also the unfortunate state of the human mind programmed to link several things together that should never be linked together - especially when you're having a bad day [16:45] Giving Value - how do you put out a strategy about giving first but still staying profitable and growing? The example of a major software manufacturer in Silicon Valley giving value that eventually led to $300M in new revenue and how to create the Theater of Success to give value [22:15] Being human - we're great at a lot of stuff, we're not robots, we make mistakes - but successful people hack that by using their flaws in humanity to help people achieve a high level of success - disrupting the "stiffness" of emails, resumes, by using curse words for people to get the sense that you meant it [26:10] Who influenced Dan? How has he become so positive and is he always like that? Having that belief that his life was destined for greatness because he was unwilling to quit. Also, Dan using ultra-running as a way to stay in his mind, to be positive and realistic, and continue [30:30] How did Dan start his blog? How impactful was it for his business and why does he keep going? Shifting his blogging from whatever he wanted to blog about into focusing on just one subject for a whole month to force himself to be disciplined and telling the story of Hollywood action star Sylvester Stallone in their blog [35:25] How do you know you're doing the right thing? - Staying grounded to core principles and "be, do, have" as a template for successful people. Also, what are you willing to do to get to where you want to be? Examples of Dan's friends moving to the natural gas-rich North Dakota and of another friend who postponed her wedding for one extra year [42:35] Why are there so few businessmen who are willing to go through those lengths? Because they don't need to. But you can create this need for change by having bigger goals than you're achieving right now or find yourself in a situation where you're forced to change [44:15] Working across so many countries and continents, does Dan see that people perceive business success, the way these people approach doing business, and taking things to the next level differently? Culturally, we all think of success differently, but we're all looking for this feeling of significance. That is universal [53:15] You can get Dan's book at freeedgybook.com for free,

Culturally, we all think of success differently, but we're all looking for this feeling of significance. That is universal [47:25] What are the companies that Dan is running right now? [00:10] Welcome Dan Waldschmidt of Edgy Conversations - international best-selling author, business strategist, speaker and extreme athlete to Ashley Talks [01:00] What is the story of Dan? How did he arrive in Asia? The unfair advantage of being raised by strict parents who forced him to learn and be disciplined, reading 3,000 books and learning early on that he was good at growing businesses [06:20] You have to love to learn with so much information out there - people make the mistake of getting locked in, "I already know, I don't want your advice", which holds them back from learning. But if you learn, there's so much greatness for you and no limit to your capability [08:40] Business leaders don't set aside time to be quiet - take a step back and quietly look at what's really going on and also the unfortunate state of the human mind programmed to link several things together that should never be linked together - especially when you're having a bad day [13:55] The four behaviours of high achievers - 1) use extreme behavior, 2) disciplined activity, 3) giving more value than you take and 4) being human [16:45] Giving Value - how do you put out a strategy about giving first but still staying profitable and growing? Dan Waldschmidt helps billion-dollar companies and high performers develop a winning edge. His bestselling book, EDGY Conversations: How Ordinary People Can Achieve Outrageous Success, is a blueprint that goes beyond typical self-help advice. Dan is a popular speaker, business strategist and an ultra-runner who since birth has been refusing to accept business as usual. Like many kids, he had a lawn mowing business, but he turned his into a money-making machine (though he opted not to tell his mom about his increased profits). He ran track like plenty of other kids, but he pushed himself to break his high school’s mile record. He got the usual entry-level job right of college, but then he changed the sales process, earned millions of dollars for the company, and became CEO by the time he was 25. These days, Dan is a people strategist and a conversation changer, serving as president and chief antagonist at Waldschmidt Partners International. Dan and his team help people arrive at business-changing breakthrough ideas by moving past outdated conventional wisdom, social peer pressure and the selfish behaviors that stop them from being high performers. Using his experience as a technology CEO and his fascination with neuroscience, he helps companies use extreme behavior and radical conversations to blow away the competition and dominate their industry. The Wall Street Journal calls his blog, Edgy Conversations, one of the top seven blogs sales blogs anywhere on the Internet, and hundreds of his articles on unconventional sales tactics have been published.
Find out what four behaviors and character traits make "ordinary" people successful, and learn how to apply them in your business and life.
Dan Waldschmidt is a busy guy whose mission, vision and passions align with The Impact Entrepreneur show. I'm extremely grateful to have this self-challenging, ultra-hard working person (to the point of barfing) on today's show. Speaking of challenging himself, Dan is looking forward to running a 500-mile ultra-marathon in July. Just thinking of that is fear inducing, but he welcomes the challenge. At a young age he stumbled across the formula of hard work and sacrifice equals the ability to achieve anything. With this idea in mind, he took a $150,000 business to $8 million within one year. He did this because he was extremely hungry for success, so much so that he never ate lunch. “When you're hungry, you're willing to do things that you wouldn't otherwise be willing to do.” He started with the challenge of 25 calls before lunch. This led to success so he upped it to 35, then 50, 60, 70 and finally 75 calls. Eventually, he just didn't have time for lunch at all because he was so caught up in this challenge. All of this hard work led him to being the CEO of the company at a young age, as well as becoming D.C.'s leading legal litigation strategist without even having a legal degree (or even completing college). He had dropped out of school because he was too busy making things happen to spend the time to learn. Dan created the http://edgyaudit.com/ (EDGY Audit). It's a simple 12 question multiple choice test that helps you understand your business strengths and weaknesses. Your results give you an EDGY score that's based on: Extreme Behavior – Awesome isn't ordinary, it's extraordinary. If you're not willing to be extreme (and get noticed), you won't be successful. Disciplined Activity – You don't know when success will strike, but you'll be more likely to attain it if you live fit financially, spiritually, mentally and physically. “You can't do the same things to soar as you do to crawl.” Giving Mindset – When you give more than they pay for, or over deliver, they will want to do business with you forever. Y(h)uman Strategy – People aren't looking for the superficial. They want their needs, pains, love/loss from deep down in their souls addressed. Do this for them and for yourself and you'll win them for life. The average score is in the 140's, but don't compare yourself to others. “It's not where you're at, it's where you're headed.” Take your score and the interpretations and decide how you can go about improving these to be a more edgy and successful business person. Through the course of his work, Dan has interviewed thousands of people and not a single one of them ever said, “I quit, then all of a sudden life was good.” In fact, it was just the opposite; “I'm so glad I didn't quit.” It was fighting through the tough times, when others criticized or outside forces conspired against them, that led to true success. Dan and I had a fun talk, and he gave us tons of great information. I'm sure you'll get just as much out of this candid discussion as I did. SOME QUESTIONS I ASK: What is Dan most looking forward to accomplishing this year? Was there a moment of impact that set him on the entrepreneurial path? Does he have any mentors that help to influence his path and mindset? How did he get past the extremely difficult initial 20 miles of his first 100-mile run? IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How Dan became the leading D.C. legal litigation strategist without a law degree How the EDGY Audit can give you insights into how you can push the edge more How you can spend that $125 Facebook ad budget for a bigger return Why it's so important to practice like a champion Plus much more… GO MAKE AN IMPACT: Take the http://edgyaudit.com/ (EDGY Audit) for yourself and assess the scores and interpretations. Then start making changes to turn yourself into a more edgy business person. DON'T STOP HERE… Learn more about Dan: Website | Facebook | Twitter |...

His latest book, Finding your Voice, hit the #1 spot on Amazon in three categories - success, self esteem, and happiness; on the same day, in the same hour. Joel has mastered the art and science of how to develop and execute a podcast launch and growth plan, as well as how to mobilize listeners. His global audience has grown 10-fold in twelve month’s time and he has earned numerous podcast awards including Best Overall and Most Inspirational podcast for ReLaunch - Become Known in Your Niche. A couple of the points that Joel discussed that I find inspiring are: The concept and phrase "Consistent Persistence". You have to continue to persist when you are working on your goals. It ties into the Best Advice Received, below. The other is "Personal Accountability". I asked Joel about the subject of Mentoring and Mastermind groups, both services that Joel provides to those that want it. But, as he states, there really has to be personal accountability to be able to achieve goals. You have to be able to be accountable to yourself. Joel uses the mantra of #ResultsOnly #NoExcuses to help us think about how we should have personal accountability. Best Advice Received: Best Advice I've Received is "To not quit, don't quit." Joel Boggess Joel discusses the inspiration that the movie, "Facing The Giants" has about not quitting. The coach in the story motivates a football player by having him do bear crawls blindfolded. Why blindfolded?, you ask. Watch the movie. It's available on Netflix DVD. Our guest was Dan Waldschmidt author of Edgy Conversations. The topic was what salespeople are missing. We broke down the key traits we think sales people need more of and why it affects sales. We talked about being great, and why too many people don't aspire to greatness. Dan opened up about some of the personal experiences behind his motivation to write the book and more. It was truly one of the best 42 minutes I've spent, not on skis, in a while! **************************************************************** THE WORD is a #live freestylin' event + live #twitterchat (#SalesJolt) w/ @keenan. Since birth Dan Waldschmidt has been refusing to accept business as usual. Sure, he had a lawn mowing business at 12, but he turned his into a money-making machine (though he opted not to tell his mom about his increased profits). He ran track like plenty of other kids, but he pushed himself to break his high school's mile record. He got the usual entry-level job right out of college, but then he changed the sales process, earned millions of dollars for the company, and became CEO by the time he was 25. These days, Dan is a business strategist. A popular speaker. And an ultra-runner. Dan and his team help companies all over the world arrive at business-changing breakthrough ideas by moving past outdated conventional wisdom, social peer pressure, and the selfish behaviors that stop them from being high performers. The Wall Street Journal calls his blog, Edgy Conversations, one of the Top 7 sales blogs anywhere on the internet. He's been profiled in Business Week, INC Magazine, Business Insider, and on dozens of radio programs. Hundreds of his articles on unconventional business strategy have been published. If you want to catch up with Dan, you'll probably need to lace up some running shoes and hit the road. He's the crazy dude running against traffic. In the meanwhile, read his blog, send him an email, ask him for help. Whatever you do, don't just do nothing.
