This Friday marks the 47th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death at age 42, which means that it is Elvis Week, a weeklong celebration of the late King of Rock and Roll at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tenn. Presley may have left Earth decades ago, but he's still a household name and an enduring American icon. More than that, Audacy reported earlier this year that fans are still paying big money for Elvis memorabilia – $150,000 for a pair of his blue suede shoes. Why has our love for Elvis stood the test of time? We reached out to Sally Hoedel, author of “Destined to Die Young” and other books about the King to find out.

In 1954, twelve-year-old Jerry Schilling wandered into a Memphis touch football game, only to discover that his team was quarterbacked by nineteen-year-old Elvis Presley. Elvis was still an unknown, but his first record, "That's All Right," had just debuted on Dewey Phillips' popular WHBQ radio show "Red, Hot & Blue." That chance encounter with the future King of Rock ‘n' Roll began an adventure for Schilling that continues to this day. In this episode, Schilling, who later became a successful talent manager, shares stories of how Elvis's friendship has been an inspiration his life and career. Then, Alicia Dean, from Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. joins to provide a behind-the-scenes look at Graceland and Elvis Week today. Jerry Schilling's book, “Me and a Guy Named Elvis: My Lifelong Friendship with Elvis Presley,” is available on Amazon.com. This episode is sponsored by the Hatchie River Conservancy.

SEASON 2 EPISODE 10: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: Jack Smith didn't want Trump's TWEETS! He wanted Trump's Direct Messages and his unsent drafts! Who needs a court order to GET a copy of all of Trump's tweets and other social media posts? It feels like you need a court order to AVOID Trump's tweets and other social media posts. He was looking for - and all the statements by the judge unsealed yesterday confirms this - for the DM's Trump sent, and any sent TO him. And anything still in the draft folders because I was reminded yesterday that 20 years ago terrorists like Khalid Sheik Mohammed and The Shoe-Bomber, and ordinary criminals like David Petraeus simply bypassed the risks of texts and apps by leaving messages IN THE DRAFT FOLDER of email accounts their shared with the messages' recipients. You could do that with Twitter! And we KNOW Trump shared that account with other people - he sometimes wrote his own tweets and sometimes dictated them. And he could also be able to get stuff Trump deleted. What? You think when you hit the "Delete" button it vanishes from the universe? Even your drafts? I mean Twitter was willing to turn all this stuff over to the Special Counsel but it wanted to alert Trump first and the judge said no, that'll give him the chance to destroy evidence and ALERT OTHERS and originally she thought it might lead him to "flee prosecution." Hell to the Yeah! And the headline is: Smith wanted all that stuff. And he got it. Also: details leaking on The Atlanta prosecutions, Trump wastes a delay move by demanding a SCIF at Mar-a-Lago when no judge can order one to be built, and yes, a fly landed on Trump's face during his interview with NewsMax. A REAL fly - not NewsMax's Eric Bolling. B-Block (20:15) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Trump stochastic terrorist who threatened Biden and those prosecuting Trump on Facebook is killed while the FBI serves him a warrant. And the late Robbie Robertson, not only an extraordinary musical figure but also the unchallenged winner of Twitter (23:15) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Dictator DeSantis usurps yet another elected official, Ken Starr's evil nephew orders lawyers to take religious training, and the Air Force UFO Whistleblower? Institutionalized five years ago after an episode in which it was determined he was a potential danger to himself. C-Block (29:51) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's Elvis Week! That means it was this week, 46 years ago, when a commercial I made for an Elvis concert in Syracuse - maybe the last one ANYBODY made - had to be pulled off our air because... well, you know. And I'll play the commercial.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week The Bellas love Love Island, and they love Dancing With the Stars! Nikki & Brie kick off the episode with their hot takes and strong opinions on this week's Elvis Presley tribute episode of DWTS. They totally disagreed on this week's elimination, and it's not the first time they don't see eye to eye on this week's show. Nikki also highlights some amazing things she found on her vision board from 20 years ago. Some of those dreams came true, but which ones haven't yet? Nikki has been a dedicated Love Island UK fan for years, and it was a dream come true to have Tasha Ghouri on the show. Tasha, the first deaf contestant on Love Island, found her soulmate on the show and won the hearts of viewers around the world. She opens up about her experience on the show, getting out of her comfort zone, lap dances, what really goes on behind the scenes, and taking on new challenges. Tasha's about to move in with her boyfriend Andrew, so she also gets some incredible advice from The Bellas when it comes to cohabitating with someone because Nikki & Brie have had to work through some things over the years. Tasha closes out the episode with this week's Inspiration & Affirmation about being true to yourself and not conforming to what other people want to project on you. Nikki & Brie are in rhythm with what they have to say about the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars, and they check in with a special guest that knows a thing or two about winning the Mirror Ball trophy. It was a family affair for the Bellas; Nikki was watching with Matteo, while Brie was watching with Birdie, who had some amazing insights. Nikki's *husband*, Artem Chigvintsev, joins The Bellas to talk about his first dance with Heidi D'Amelio, her surprising revelation that she almost quit the show before the first episode, their post-dance reaction, and how this new season on Disney+ feels different than previous seasons. He also gives some insight into his unique approach to the next dance, why he hasn't started choreographing, and we learn why Nikki is really excited about Elvis Week on DWTS. While they have him on the show, The Bellas get Artem to join them for an all-new edition of The Elimination Game…but it seems that one of the Bellas didn't read the guidelines for the game (shocker), so maybe we're witnessing some unresolved issues from The Bellas episode of Celebrity Beef on E!. It's safe to say that The Bellas are at their best when they're breaking the rules, though. The episode closes out with Artem's contribution to Inspiration & Affirmation with something that he learned from Matthew McConaughey and uses every day.Vote for Artem and Heidi on Monday! Gurdip plays catch-up with the incomparable Ms. Jaime Kay as she dusts off her seat and regales him with tales of her visit to Memphis and Elvis Week 2022, including an encounter with Priscilla Presley and Jerry Schilling. Then, Justin cracks open the TCBCast vault to bring out not only a little extra bonus discussion on UK-exclusive LPs with author Tony Plews, but also a long-lost Song of the Week, previously cut from TCBCast 196, where Justin attempted to follow up Tony's emotional telling of the true story behind "White Christmas" with Elvis's 1969 recording of one of Vernon's favorite songs, "If I'm A Fool." It's Elvis Week, so Jennifer Biggs and Chris Herrington talk about what was in the 12,000 calories Elvis reportedly consumed daily.
It's Elvis Week in Memphis, running till this coming Thursday New Zealand time. Elvis Week 2022 marks the 45th anniversary of Elvis' death. Angie Marchese is in charge of the Graceland archives.
Sam Thompson first met Elvis Presley in 1972 when his sister Linda began dating the wildly popular entertainer. In this special Elvis Week 2022 episode, Sam shares details of that first meeting at Graceland and how the two went from friends to Sam working full time for the king of rock ‘n' roll. Sam was already an officer with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department when the two met, and he eventually quit and went to work full time for Elvis as a personal bodyguard. He served as security for Elvis at concerts around the country, during recording sessions, on personal outings and at Graceland. Through his work, Sam went on road tours with Elvis, witnessed the recording of albums and was present for approximately 130 separate concert and stage performances. Curious what someone who was there thinks about Baz Luhrmann's “Elvis?” Sam shares his thoughts on that, what Graceland was like in the early 1970s and more.

It's "Elvis Week" as John Wayne, Petey, and Stew all checked out Baz Luhrman's "Elvis." Plus, they count down their Top 5 Elvis songs and their Top 5 Music Biopics.
On this week's BFG podcast, we talk about the hit movie ‘Elvis.' And also about other movies starring Elvis. And about Elvis in general. It's Elvis Week! Enjoy the show.Gillian Gaar joins editor-in-chief Neal Pollack to discuss the history of Elvis biopics. She concludes that the currently Elvis, Austin Butler, is the best screen Elvis. Naturally, she likes 1979's Kurt Russell Elvis, but Butler gets the nod because he takes the performance into Vegas Elvis and overweight decline Elvis. What a performance. Also, she notes, Kurt Russell was once in an Elvis movie, playing a kid who kicks Elvis in the shins. Who else on Earth gets that distinction? No one!Stephen Garrett emerges from backstage to discuss the Baz Luhrmann movie ‘Elvis‘. He asks, “Is anyone going to see this movie?” And Neal warns him not to underestimate the passion of Elvis fans. Sure enough, the movie did good box office. Stephen praises the lush production design. Both he and Neal love the music and Butler's performance. But Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker gets bad reviews. Neal proposes that Hanks get a Razzie nomination. Butler has to be a favorite to get an Oscar nomination. Let it all come true, baby!

The incomparable Jaime Kay is back to regale us with tales of her trip to Memphis during Elvis Week 2021, including her time emceeing a discussion with Ginger Alden, visiting Tupelo and Circle G, and brief sidebars on her trip this past May to Graceland and Sun Records. Then, Gurdip busts out the gate with the bluesy Song of the Week "So Glad You're Mine" from 1956, but things really fire up when Jaime Kay and Gurdip spar over Ann-Margret and "You're The Boss," the duet cut from Viva Las Vegas. Finally, Justin closes out with an understated 1969 favorite, "Do You Know Who I Am?" and its unsuspectingly rowdy outtakes.
