Our interdecisional spaceship navigates us to the heart of this decision space and to a question of politics. What is it that makes this game inherently political... or is it? Bleep bloop. We had the pleasure to bring on Bruce Voge from North Star Games to talk about their latest board game, Oceans which is expected to hit stores March 23rd, 2020! Oceans is a thematic update to their popular game, Evolution, and Evolution: Climate which we reviewed not too long ago. It's important to understand that Oceans is not an expansion but a standalone game which uses some of the same concepts, in a new context and has some very important changes to the rules which make for a game with more 'come from behind' possibilities than were readily available in Evolution. This episode is a different format than we normally use. Rich and I start things off then hand it over to the interview which plays uninterrupted. We always love your feedback, let us know if this format is pleasant to listen to. Elise was on HSG:11 Women in Gaming episode many moons ago when she actually recommended Evolution to us. This game is cute, educational, competitive, and with the Climate rules, it really shines as a game. Elise also teaches Rich some colorful ways to describe cats. In this episode I take us back to 2012 for a re-broadcast of interviews with Michael Zimmerman and Barbara Kingsolver. In the first part of today’s show, you will hear an interview that first aired in February 2012 with Michael Zimmerman, the founder of the Clergy Letter Project and Evolution Weekend. Over 13 thousand Christian, Jewish, and Unitarian Universalist clergy have signed a letter in support of teaching evolution in public schools. On the Sunday closest to Darwin’s Birthday faith communities all over the United States celebrate Evolution Weekend by honoring science and religion. Author Barbara Kingsolver lives in southwest Virginia. She is the author of 14 books including the The Poisonwood Bible, The Lacuna, and Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. She visited with me at the WEHC studio at Emory and Henry College to discuss her latest novel, Flight Behavior, a novel set in Southern Appalachia. In part it is about denial and the beliefs that get assigned to us.

Welcome back to Dragon’s Demize! On this week’s episode, we’re jumping back into a familiar franchise with a review of Evolution Climate. Evolution Climate builds on the mechanics of the original Evolution, but introduces a few important new elements. The climate track and associate climate cards help to balance the game and force all players […] The post Evolution: Climate appeared first on Dragon's Demize.
In our second episode, we are playing through the game Evolution, with the Climate expansion. Evolution sees its players create and adapt species to an ever-changing climate. Food can be abundant or scarce, predators can evolve at any time, and just when players think they've found the perfect combination of traits for their species, the climate can change and wipe them out. This a fun strategy game where players compete against each other and the board to have the most dominate species to defeat your opponents by having more food or attacking their creatures and killing them. This is a game we had a ton of fun playing together, and it comes highly recommended from us to you. Evolution: Climate is more fun than the base game, Evolution, and can be found for about $45. In this episode, Teej puts down Ruination from Stone Brewing, Schnell goes classy with Champagne Tortoise from Karben4 (a Beer'd Gamers favorite brewery), Junior gets patriotic and downs 'Merica from Surly Brewing, and Nelson goes full-on plague with Sam Adams Black Lager.

I will develop a theory to help understand why Donald Trump is now President and how we can use his "playbook" to create a political movement to deal with the greatest existential crisis in human history, namely climate change, which might well include a possible 200 foot rise of sea levels within our grandchildren's lifepspan. My theory involves an understanding of how our survival as a species depended on our participation as members of a tribe with leaders, followers, and various organizations within the tribe. The job of the leaders was to define threats to the tribe and organize the means of both defence and repair if the tribe was damaged. Tribes all had warriors, intellectuals, artisans, workers and clerics needed to justify the moral actions taken by the tribes members. I will discuss why Trump has been so successful thus far and how we might be politically successful in changing the current direction being taken by the tribes now competing for power in America.

In this Episode of Quick Looks from The Long View, T.C. Reid and I check out three new titles for your consideration. First up is Okey Dokey from Hisashi Hayashi and Tasty Minstrel Games. Is this little filler worth your time, or should you let this one pass on by? Next up is Coal Baron: The Great Card Game from Stronghold Games. How does this compare to the board game? Is it best with two or four? Listen to hear our thoughts. Finally, we examine Evolution: Climate from North Star Games, LLC. Is this the next step in the (ahem) evolution of this game series, or is it one you should let wither on the vine? Tune in to find out! Thanks to my generous sponsor www.gamesurplus.com for their continued support of The Long View. Be sure to check them out when you place your next online order and find out what makes them so special. Thanks, of course, to YOU as well for listening!
