Now, this is a Viking-themed strategy game where players lead their clan to victory by gathering resources, capturing buildings, and expanding their empire. Just picking and placing a tile will not get you a victory, you have some decisions to make that will have you balancing risk and reward. Cretaceous Rails is not a doomed theme park like so many built with dinosaurs as the main attractions. This medium-weight euro game combines economic strategy with thematic elements, allowing players to take tourists on safari and construct a thriving dino resort where every piece in the game is a resource to be used. With careful planning and resource management, you should out-maneuver the other park operators and come away with a victory and not be eaten by the T-rex. Santorini is a beautifully designed abstract strategy game that brings Greek mythology to life and Roxley has taken the new Pantheon Edition up to new hieghts with the components. Gameplay hasn't changed, players take on the role of gods and heroes, competing to build a majestic island of Santorini without getting trapped by the competition. And now with the coop version added to the mix, Riddle of the Sphinx, this should dust of those old copies and get the game back to the table.

Fatal Fury 3's subtitle was Road to the Final Victory, ironic given that there were then four more Fatal Fury titles (the first's subtitle was The King of Fighters, which is its own huge delightful kettle of fish). While Fatal Fury Special (the actual third Fatal Fury title, which made 3 the fourth, please do keep up) was worthy in its own right, 3 is clearly where the Fatal Fury series hit its stride. In the 14th Century B.C.E., the pharaoh Akhenaten attempted to shift Egypt into monotheism centered on the cult of the god Aten. Apparently there's some who argue it was possibly instead henotheism, whereby many gods are acknowledged but one is elevated above the others--a claim advanced about many ostensibly mono- or polytheistic religions, even some practised today--but at any rate is was exceptionally controversial. By the time his son Tutankhaten became pharaoh, the cult of Aten was suppressed, and the ascendancy of the god Amun was restored in a polytheistic pantheon. Hence the new pharaoh's name was changed from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun. All right, we need to talk about Sokka. Another staple of kid's shows is often The Annoying One. I don't know why, but they're often there. Steven Universe had Ronaldo, but they knew to use him sparingly. Sokka is so aggressively obnoxious in the first two episodes it is a miracle anyone makes it to episode three. He could have just been the complainer, but additionally his monumental and gratuitous misogyny is so bad that one wonders what Suki (an awesome character) ever saw in him. Sure, he gets better, but always in my mind the Early Days Sokka looms over the show like some terrible shadow.00:59 AYURIS: On Mars (Vital Lacerda, Eagle-Gryphon Games, 2020)Games Played Last Week:02:33 -Cryo (Tom Jolly & Luke Laurie, Z-Man Games, 2021)07:22 -Red Outpost (Raman Hryoryk, Lifestyle Boargames Ltd, 2019)11:38 -Cantaloop: Book 1--Breaking into Prison (Friendemann Findeisen & Grzegorz Kobiela, Lookout Games, 2020)15:36 -Brass: Birmingham (Gavan Brown, Matt Tolman, & Martin Wallace, Roxley, 2018)19:14 -Clever Cubed (Wolfgang Warsch, Schmidt Spiele, 2020)21:09 -Sleeping Gods (Ryan Laukat, Red Raven Games, 2021)23:38 -PARKS (Henry Audubon, Keymaster Games, 2019)27:16 -Shards of Infinity: Into the Horizon (Gary Arant, Justin Gary, Ryan Sutherland, Jared Saramago, Mataio Wilson, & Jason Zila, Stone Blade Entertainment, 2021)29:19 -Pickomino Deluxe (Reiner Knizia, Zoch Verlag, 2018)31:53 -Witchstone (Martino Chiacchiera & Reiner Knizia, R&R Games, 2021)34:48 -Empire of the Stars (Adam West, CrossCut Games, 2021)40:15 -The Grimm Masquerade (Tim Eisner, Ben Eisner, & James Hudson, Druid City Games, 2019)News (and why it doesn't matter):45:53 Fundraiser on Twitch for Food Banks Canada on October 2nd at 3 PM EST.Guests: No Pun Included, Board Game Barrage, the SVWAG crew! We are huge Boyle stans so it hurts to admit this one didn't work for us quite as well as the first two books in the series. We loved Roxley's crazy aunts and the premise of a mustering, but the wider plot was hard to follow. Luckily it veered into "so weird I'm just along for the ride" so we still had fun with it.

The team offer up some of their favourite solo games, as well as some great entry-level games if you are solo-curious. In the Board Game Bracket we reveal the winners of the recent showdown: Lords of Waterdeep vs War of Whispers. Then Sarah and Mitch breakdown the next big battle: Mage Knight vs A Feast For Odin. Finally in Swear an Oath, Steve clears the decks by fulfilling his oaths to play both Tiny Towns and K2. He then vows to bring the Plaid Hat game Forgotten Waters to the table this weekend. Draft Mechanic Episode 37: Santorini six-pack review; Evolution: Climate on tap; Unlock! Welcome back to another episode! The following events take place between 11:00am and 12:00pm (or at least they did when we recorded). There’s an abnormal amount of real-time games in today’s episode (two) as we talk about the Unlock! demo kit and FUSE. We’ve got a few other neat recent plays to talk about too: Favor of the Pharaoh for rolling fistfuls of dice, and Ascending Empires for flicking discs throughout space. Our big feature today is the just released (or upcoming) Santorini from Roxley games. Abstract strategy, but dripping with theme? Say no more! Well, we’ll say some more - that’s the reason you’re listening to us in the first place! We’re rounding out this episode by putting Evolution Climate on tap with five great thematic craft beer pairings. So sit back, relax, grab a pint and enjoy the show! Intro 01:00 Show Housekeeping 02:58 Upcoming: First Martians 08:54 Kickstarter: Save Crash Games! 11:16 IndieGoGo: The Dice Tower, Season 13 12:07 First Impressions: Unlock!
