It's full steam ahead as Mitch stokes the fires and tries to keep Episode 194 on track, which isn't easy with Def and Adrian on board as well. The lads discuss games based on other intellectual properties, the ongoing fascination of trains in boardgames, and revisiting a classic. In the Board Game Bracket we settle the last match-up, Targi vs Anachrony, before we cue up the next battle: Quacks of Quedlinburg vs Too Many Bones. To make sure your favourite goes through to the next round make sure you vote on our socials. Finally, in Swear An Oath, Mitch and Def both played more burncycle, Def also played Andean Abyss with Mitch and Conor, while Adrian still hasn't erased the errors of his butchered phoenix mini. New oaths include On Mars: Alien Invasion (Def), Pandemic: Reign of Cthulu (Mitch), and a solo playthrough of The Trancontinental (Adrian). It's the end of the year, so between filling their bellies with roast turkey and figgy pudding and the inevitable hangover that follows New Year and Hogmanay the boys gather to look back at the best board, card and tabletop games of 2016. 00:00:00 Introduction. Sorry for the delay in releasing an episode but due to disruptions in our day to day life Steve has been rather busy. 00:03:03 Because no-one not called Tom Vasel can play every game in existence we make a note of the games missing from our best of list. For some reason the boys then digress with reminiscing about Bulls Eye. 00:05:48 Arkham Horror: The Card Game 00:10:28 Scythe 00:15:51 Codenames: Pictures 00:21:07 We award Paul Grogan of Gaming Rules, Games Personality of the Year 00:21:49 Conan 00:26:53 Mansions of Madness: Second Edition 00:31:50 Ominoes 00:35:23 Star Wars: Rebellion 00:39:34 Adrenaline 00:44:34 Android: Mainframe 00:48:43 Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu 00:52:06 Imhotep 00:59:58 Ice Cool 01:02:36 Captain Sonar 01:07:00 Ave Roma 01:14:12 Each of us then selects are number on game of 2016. In this episode we go meta. We start out talking about the podcast in meta ways (you'll even learn our last names). We'll then go into a short off topic and talk about our game of the day, "Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu." Then we go on topic and tall about meta gaming in your board games and how that can cross over into cheating. Our next episode will be a questions from the listeners episode. Send us your questions and we'll answer as many as we can.
We review Pandemic Legacy Season 1 this time, but don't worry, we will warn you before the review starts so you can avoid any spoilers! Wherein we discuss Gotham, Shameless, Supergirl, The Path, Mr. Robot, the future of PC operating systems, massive TV-watching queues, Pandemic: Reign of Chtulhu, the conventions and other events that we always miss, overrated media franchises, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, our hopes for the Nintendo NX, and our most epic gaming (and reading) binges. Starring Ryan Scott and Ryan Higgins, with special guest April Scott.
As our hosts continue to work their way through their stack of GenCon purchases, each of them have the opportunity to try some new games. First up for Adrian it was a lighthearted game of competing civilizations in Imperial Settlers, followed by Jeff who could not survive a trip to the Forbidden Desert and ended up ghosting around in Mysterium. Finally Zach tried hard to keep his sanity as cultists invaded Pandemic in Reign of Cthulu. Having caught up on their recent gaming experiences your three hosts move on to discuss some current events and news buzzing around the gaming hobby where Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy board and card games to America, Seafall receives a shipping update, No Man's Sky let's Jeff down, and Zach's need to buy all the expansions is triggered by Experimental Meds for Pandemic The Cure. From news they seamlessly transition into covering a few current kickstarter projects that are on their radar. After all of that is finished these intrepid hosts and boardgamers move to the discussion of the day, boardgame apps. It is here that they delve deep into an interesting side of the hobby, talking about everything from app versions of their favorite games to games that require apps and even apps that aid in tabletop gaming. Along the way they cover the good, the bad, and the AI as well as some of their favorite (and least favorite) boardgame apps and how they feel apps can add or detract from the boardgaming experience. Recorded from War Room Studios in Albuquerque, NM : 7-12-16 This episode brought to you by BoardgameTables.com and Meeple Realty - We have absolutely no clue what Pokemon Go is and our conversation proves that - We do, however know exactly what Overwatch is (and B LOVES it). We get back to giving away games thanks to MVP Games. Josh confesses that part 1 of his Supremacy discussion didn't go as planned & we propose a format revision to rectify this going forward. Josh has to be taught what a McMansion is and refuses to discuss his Star Wars: Edge of the Empire campaign. We both do our best impression of a Network Executive as talk through our The Networks Board Game Review and then we preview all the biggest and baddest titles upcoming at Gencon 2016. This is a fairly light tactical board game for two players, wherein each person seeks to conquer their opponent's city. In this Chess-like game, both players take turns recruiting and deploying handfuls of units onto the battlefield. When two opposing units face off against one another, dice are rolled to determine who lives and who dies. These pitched battles continues over a span of about 30-40 minutes until inevitably one side emerges the victor. We explore where Vici's blades shows some prowess as well as where they miss the mark. The Vici battlefield With 5 points from empty city spaces, this player recruited 3 new units After moving, the Bowmen now has the Horsemen in range to attack With die results of 5 to 4, the Spearmen defeats the Footmen Vici midgame PLUGS - (59:43): As always, Cardboard Republic YouTube videos and the BGG Guild are still ongoing.
